This is a fun little game that anybody here on these boards can play, but is mainly made because many of us regulars here on the Off Topic Tavern love the sport of Football.

    Rules:

    Rules
Your score is calculated as Wins to Losses. Or basically the more wins you have the better you're doing and the person with the most wins is the one leading this friendly competition. No point spreads will factor into this game of ours. It is simply Wins to Losses.

If you miss or forget to list picks for the week you'll receive a loss for each game played that week. Basically you'd have effectively guessed wrong for each game by default. Same goes for if you want to jump into the game mid season. You will receive a loss for every game played. (total games played isn't too important since it is wins that calculate out the leaders of this competition, but I like to keep a nice equal total for everyone's score.

Picks must be sent in before the games have started. As of right now the only game exempt will be the first game of the season (saints vs packers) of which if you can link me to a post of you supporting either team before their game started it will count for your pick for that team. This is all due to us being a bit slow with setting this thingy up.

All picks must be posted here for public record. This way there can be no claims of cheating with private submissions and whatnot. Basically the person receiving the submissions helping a brotha' out. I will try and take a photo of all picks before games are started so as to make sure nobody cheats since these boards do not seem to have a notification of when a post was edited or any notice of editing period.

What's with all the Baltimore picks?!

Pittsburgh WILL win, let there be no doubt!

Edit: After paying more attention, I discovered more people are voting for the 'Burgh...
It's gonna be a good game! We don't like B-more, and B-more don't like us. And I wouldn't want it any other way.

OKie Dokie I've recorded everyone's picks with snapshots. I'd like to ask for nobody to make changes to their picks at this point, but not like it matters since I'll be going off of the screen shots when I do the scoring.

        Good Luck to everyone.

Dammit.  Sucks I missed the first week!  I'll still play, though.  To be honest, I sucked pretty hard with the picks I would have made anyway.

When's week 2 gonna be posted?

EDIT: Mon, Sept 12: New England is my pick.
EDIT2: Oakland is my other pick for the Mon night games (if these count).

Either on Monday nights or Tuesday mornings I'll tally up the points and then post the games for the next week. I just pulled an all-niter getting some homework done so don't expect any of that to be done until Tuesday mornings since I'll likely be falling asleep once I get home from school.

That pick is before the Monday game (and you've not made any picks yet) so I'll say it's good. Also there are two games tonight. Um also did you back either green bay or new Orleans before that game Thursday? If yes and you can link to it I will count that since I've already states such up above.

I'm trying to think of when an official lock on picks should be. I'm thinking sunday morning or saturday night with the exception being thursday morning for thursday games. I'm thinking of doing that for the future. This way most picks don't need to be made until friday or saturday while only a pick or whatnot needs to be rushed in any sense.

I'll vouch for him having backed Green Bay before the game.  Should be early in the "Are you ready for some football" thread and/or in the "Benefits of Playing for UM" thread in the HoT.

Here's one from the morning of 9/8 (Thursday)

Hey, df, maybe you can do an edit in the OP with the current scores of people playing?  Something to keep track of what's been going on, who's in the lead, etc.

EDIT: Also, if I ever miss a week, I will always vote for the Eagles > 49ers > Vikings > Raiders, in that preference (if they play each other, otherwise, vote for them in any of their games).

TD: you need to clearify one of your picks for me since you gave a pick that wasn't a team name or city/state. Everyone please try and list only one of those two things with picks. If it isn't obvious to me in the future as to who you picked I'll just mark it off as a loss.

I'll update the weekly scores with a post. I'll also put the weekly scores in the OP along with season totals.

KC vs Detroit.  This is a tough one I'm going to lean on Detroit for this one.
Oakland vs Buffalo.  It's not time for Buffalo to choke yet (That's week 4) Buffalo.
Tampa vs Minnesota.  Vikings, easily. Tampa's a joke :-p
Chicago vs New Orleans. Tough game, Chicago's got some great D and special teams. Probably the best of the season so far imo. I'm going to give it to the Saints though in a last minute surprise shift from Brees and Co.
        Baltimore vs Tenn.   Ravens.
        Cleveland vs Indy. Browns.
        Jacks vs Jets.  Jets.
        Seahawks vs Steelers. Seahawks
Arizona vs Washington.  After week 1 and seeing that high powered offense with good quick defense. Arizona.
Green Bay vs Carolina. Screw it, I'm going for the upset.  Carolina.
Dallas vs San Fran.  If Romo doesn't Choke again.... Dallas
Chargers vs NE.   Chargers. They don't choke till the post season :-p
Houston vs Miami.   Forget the Fish. Houston.
Cinci vs Denver Broncos all the way.
Dream Team vs Falcons.  The Falcons seemed kind of slow vs Chicago. The defense is going to spend too much time on the field.  Philly.
Rams v Giants.  Damn Rams all the way.

Last game on list is the monday night game.

I didn't get to see -any- of the games last weekend so I'm going to have to do this the hard way and compare statistics that being said. Pics will happen in this posts' edit shortly.

Houstan vs Saints. Saints. I like houstan so far this year but Saints they ain't.

Giants vs Phily. I'm going to go with Philly on this one. The Dream Team is going to put the giants away.

Jags vs Cats. Honestly, do you need me to answer this one? Seriously? Not only are they my home team, but frankly they can keep up with the likes of GreenBay. I'm looking for the Cats first win of the season, and not only that it's going to be a Roflstomp.

Patriots vs Bills. It's not week 4 but it's close enough. The Pats look like they are out to prove themselves. I'm expecting them to be accused of "running up the score'' this weekend. Bye bills. Time to Choke.

Miami at Cleveland. This is going to be one of those beautiful trainwrecks you can't look away from. As bad as the Fish are, are the Brownstains worse? On home territory? Ugh.... either way I feel like a loser. Browns.

San Fran vs Cinci.   Oh god... you bastards. Another fail off.  Cinci?

Broncos vs Titans.  Titans. They really have something special there.

Lions vs Vikings.  Lions are going to eat the vikings for breakfast. (You have no idea how cool it feels to type that!)

Ravens vs Damn Rams. Honestly the Ravens are a better team than the Damn Rams will ever be.  Ravens.

Jets vs Raiders, I'm going to go Jets on this one. The Raiders look good but I suspect that has more to do with who they played.

        KC vs Chargers.   Chargers.

Cardinals vs Seahawks.  Cardinals All The Way. Seahawks won't even get to touch the ball.

Atlanta vs TB... oh god. I'm going to go Falcons on this one.

Greenbay vs Chicago.  Last week round two.... Greenbay is going to get the win over the bears handedly.

Steelers vs Indy... Steelers will face roll Indy. They still feel like they have something to prove after week 1.

Skins vs Cowboys. Chokin Romo vs Redskins? really? Really??? Redskins, and they should do it fairly comfortably.

        Jacksonville at Carolina
        New England at Buffalo
        Miami at Cleveland
        San Francisco at Cincinnati
        Denver at Tennessee
Detroit at Minnesota  Adrian Peterson against the One Man Army
        Baltimore at St. Louis
NY Jets at Oakland  Maybe if I keep betting against the Raiders they'll have a good year.  *sigh*
        Kansas City at San Diego
Arizona at Seattle  Seattle has one of the best "12th Man"s in the game.
        Atlanta at Tampa Bay
        Green Bay at Chicago
        Pittsburgh at Indianapolis
Washington at Dallas  Romo won't even play.

Well look-y thar.  Taking only the games I actually picked into account, I'm 16-3.  Taking all games into account, I'm still .500 and out of the bottom spot (even discounting RH's absence).  Yeah, I pwn.    Aaaaaaaand ... I've just cursed myself so these will probably suck:

        Houston at New Orleans
NY Giants at Philadelphia - This is a conditional pick that I may change if Vick is out due to injury.
        Jacksonville at Carolina
        New England at Buffalo
        Miami at Cleveland
        San Francisco at Cincinnati
        Denver at Tennessee
        Detroit at Minnesota
        Baltimore at St. Louis
        NY Jets at Oakland
        Kansas City at San Diego
        Arizona at Seattle
        Atlanta at Tampa Bay
        Green Bay at Chicago
        Pittsburgh at Indianapolis
        Washington at Dallas

I really don't get enough time to watch games or read post-mortems to make good picks.  I'm just picking what I believe is the better team in that matchup.  So far, so good.  Don't think it'll last though.  Just not enough research time.  I mean, I watch like half of a game a week and read maybe two articles.  Not what I was able to do last year.  Not good.  Just hope I keep gettin' lucky!

Well, so much for my emotion-/luck-based picks ... but that won't stop me from doing it again!!

        Houston at New Orleans
        NY Giants at Philadelphia
        Jacksonville at Carolina
        New England at Buffalo
        Miami at Cleveland
        San Francisco at Cincinnati
        Denver at Tennessee
        Detroit at Minnesota
        Baltimore at St. Louis
        NY Jets at Oakland
        Kansas City at San Diego
        Arizona at Seattle
        Atlanta at Tampa Bay
        Green Bay at Chicago
        Pittsburgh at Indianapolis
        Washington at Dallas

Maybe it was my lack of cheering?

Houston at New Orleans : NO is generally better.
NY Giants at Philadelphia : I think having the home game will give the eagles the advantage.
Jacksonville at Carolina : IDK both teams probably suck so I'm just going with home team.
New England at Buffalo : NE is a good team so picking them is always safe.
Miami at Cleveland : I'm going with the browns only because they're home team.
San Francisco at Cincinnati : Niners suck and playing an away game so will probably suck even harder.
Denver at Tennessee : Don't know or care about either of these teams so picking the home team.
Detroit at Minnesota : Vikings tend to be pretty OK some of the time so lets go with them.
Baltimore at St. Louis : The Rams are horrible. Nuff said.
NY Jets at Oakland : Oakland sucks. Nuff said.
Kansas City at San Diego : It's not the playoffs yet so this should be no problem for SD.
Arizona at Seattle : Arizona almost never wins division games.
Atlanta at Tampa Bay : I'm believing in the TB.
Green Bay at Chicago : These places are near each other so don't think being home team will give the bears any sort of advantage.
Pittsburgh at Indianapolis : Colts suck. Although I'd prefer it is Pitt lost the rest of their games.
Washington at Dallas : Um both these teams suck but maybe Dallas sucks less.

I'm going to go with Dallas.

Romo's balls clang when he walks and drag on the ground behind him.

Injured Romo should change his name to Mother Effin Rambo. He chokes like a scared little girl when he's fine... but put a hurting on him?

I think Romo realizes he's played like crap since he signed on over all. And maybe something went down at the start of the season and he knows this is his last year in the NFL. Either way though, I respect the man or am really scared of him heh. Anyone that keeps playing with a collapsed lung has earned his Man Card for eternity.

In order to clear up any confusion, how about we finalize the rules on when picks are locked?  Instead of just "before the game starts", how about we do, as an example, "Before 11am ET on game day"?  That way you don't get people trying to change their picks for the Sunday night game halfway through the afternoon games, and it's still early enough that they can change them for the early games.

I was thinking something similar but mainly because people would leave their pick change in a new post rather than editing the original like they do if they change their pick earlier in the week.

OK new rule amendment thingy. All picks are considered final at 10pm PST Saturday. The only exception will be for those rare Thursday night games in which those games will final at Noon PST Thursday.

I'm not always going to be waking up super early on Sundays so Saturday nights should be good.

I understand that everyone wants to do as good as they can (for the most part), but I'd prefer to do as little work as I can. This new rule will be in effect starting now. I'll allow the change or two made before this post. Everyone else is out of luck. If you want to complain then blame the people who made me work that extra little bit.

That will be dealt with when it comes up. Either things will be finalized earlier in the morning or the night before. I figure that out once the time comes. I'll also try and edit and clean up the rules in the OP sometime in the next week.

My search fu sucks this morning. I was going to find the rules posted at the Eagle 96.9 here in sac as they have a weekly prize for their football pool. I think the major change is theirs has a no changing your mind clause.

That would be something good. Would cause people to also make their picks on say Thursday or Friday instead of Monday night or Tuesday morning followed by several changes throughout the week.

Hey!  I only made one change, and that was based on a late (like on Sunday) report on Romo.  And that change means that TD has a chance to tie me this week.

I don't like my picks.  I think Indy is due.  Philly is in trouble.  The Browns are due to lose.  Carolina has a real chance (never bet on Cutler).  Dallas can be great and Detroit is due for a let down.  New England has one black eye and the Raiders are all about symmetry.  Meh, don't like my picks but I'll live or die by 'em.

EDIT: And I think Minnesota may be beginning to figure it out.  And I bet Chris Johnson finally gets on track this week - killing my damned Browns pick.  I was gonna pick against 'em but just couldn't pull the trigger.  Dammit!

Lions vs Cowboys. Injured Romo vs Lions. Hm. As much as I admire his stones I don't think the rest of the team can measure up. Lions.

Carolina vs Chicago. You all know what my pick is going to be. But not for the reasons you might think. Chitown is in big trouble up there, Special Teams isn't going to win a game by itself. Carolina

Bills vs Cinci. I was wrong last week, it's week 4.... it's time for the bills to choke.. but the bengals... I can't believe I'm going to say it. Bills for the win in Week 4.

Titans vs Brownstains.  Titans. They look awful hit or miss but the browns are still worse.

        Vikings vs Chiefs. Vikings

        Redskins vs Damned Rams.   Redskins.

Saints vs Jags.   Saints, no question unless they end up in the middle of a monsoon to keep the ball on the ground.

Steelers vs Houstan. I like Houstan I really do. The question is which steelers team is going to be showing up to play, week one or week 3s?  I'm going to say that the steelers suffered direly from a lack of practice and are starting to settle in. Steelers.

49ers vs the "Dream Team" I can't believe I'm going to say this... 49ers.

Falcons vs Dirtybirds. NFC Souf all the way baby. Falcons. If they can just settle in and play they'll be alright.

Chokin Chargers vs Poached Fish....   Chokin Chargers all the way.

Jets vs Baltimore. This one should be an awesome game. I'm going to go Ravens though, because of their fantastic D and the jets still have a somewhat inconsistent offense.

Indy vs Tampa.   Is Indy due? Nope. As bad as I feel Tampa is, Indy is worse.  Tampa Bay.

        Greenbay vs Denver... Greenbay

Pats vs Raiders. Patriots. They are on a mission. SB Year?

Giants vs Arizona. I think the giants are a little soft. Arizona.

Chokin Chargers vs Poached Fish....   Chokin Chargers all the way.

Chokin Chargers!  To say they choke is a very generalised description, auto-asphyxiation would be more precise.  Actually 2-1 is a good start for the Chargers, but they really do look inept.

I am counting on Carolina this week!

I don't see picks from KGM so here picks will go off of this as she's pre established this. I forget if I put this in the rules and if I didn't I intended to. You can set it up to pick for certain teams or pick in a certain pattern. Like for instance pick NO and NE every week and all other games home team or something like that.
EDIT: Also, if I ever miss a week, I will always vote for the Eagles > 49ers > Vikings > Raiders, in that preference (if they play each other, otherwise, vote for them in any of their games).

Anyways here is what her picks are for this week.

        Eagles over the niners

        Vikings over KC

        Raiders over NE

Sorry about that. It looks like I didn't tally down your pick for the Eagles when I was tallying up all the picks. Correcting all that junk.

I encourage you guys to check every once in a while because as You have seen I can make mistakes.

I like most of these picks, though I wonder about Seattle/Cleveland, Chicago/TB, and (believe it or not) KC/Oakland.  Carson Palmer in Oaktown, but he'll be brand-spankin'-new and rusty...

Seattle/Cleveland, Chicago/TB and Atlanta/Detroit all have me wonderin'.  I picked Oakland even before the trade because I believe in McFadden being enough.  With Palmer, he probably better be.  Carson can be good again but he's old and he missed a lot of ball.  Oh, and he never played for any team other than Cincy before.  Hope he's a quick learner.  Bet on simple offense and likely more special teams shenanigans.  They'll need it.  Still, I have faith for some reason.

I am having a rough one making picks this week too, I am going to give it another day.

Quite a few games I am unsure about, the Wembley game and others.

Palmer is starting this week, I might have to go with Raiders.

@Cpt_Micha:  I think you are missing a couple picks. (I think I am going to give Carolina another go, it is at home and Cam is due for a win)

He missed the Oakland and Detroit games.  For once, it wasn't the one(s) full of fail.

In order to make this post worthwhile. I would like to say: I will pick the opponents of both Oakland and Indianapolis every week, and I will pick GB and NO every week.

Lotsa picks I don't like again.  Stupid Ravens ... anyhoo, I think Cam is better than Christian - though Jared Allen makes things interesting (so does AD), I'm pickin' Eli even though I think he's due for a flop (top three QB?  whoa), Indy is done but I don't think they'll lose 'em all, the power of Tebow compels me to ... pick against him (seriously, how many miracles can one man get from god?), I dunno about the Bills, New England seems to still be finding itself - especially against good D - and Pittsburgh seems to be closer to figuring it out but Tom Brady is no Big Ben (;)), Philly is the Nightmare Team but Romo is terrible and though the Chargers still seem to travel poorly, I feel Norv an' Phil can get the job done.  Maybe.  Ugh.  Oh yeah, stupid Ravens.  And stupid me!  I was watchin' the games and I coulda swore I picked the Falcons.  Why didn't I?  Dammit!

They better pull it off against the Chiefs.  They have Green Bay next week.Sealed

I am so over the Chargers losing to themselves.  4-2 is actually a good start for them, but they really have to get it together.

The best thing that has happened to the Chargers this year is Campbell being out for the rest of the season.  The Chargers have a much more difficult schedule than the Raiders.  I am anxious to see how the Raiders look after the bye week when they play Denver.

Overrated QB at his finest? Actually I missed whatever he did. Did he throw away a 2 min drill or something?

With a minute or so left to go, Rivers can't figure out how to stop the clock or avoid a delay of game penalty, and then looks confused when the game ends after the fourth down.Yell

I'm having problems with these forums. First few times I submitted this post it took out TD's score for the week which is 11 - 2 and each time I try adding it back in it keeps taking it out. My ctrl+v is now backspacing instead of pasting for some odd reason.

Tampa at NO is ... f'in terrible.  I mean, which version of either team is gonna show up?  If Drew Brees was still Drew Brees this would be easy.  Ugh.  Don't like the Ravens/Steelers pick either.  Tough stuff.  I believe the Steelers are better now than when they got their rear handed to 'em earlier in the year and that Flacco isn't gonna be on, though, so there ya go.  And what a Monday Night game!  Can't wait!  Tough to pick, but it should be awesome.

OK new rule amendment thingy. All picks are considered final at 10pm PST Saturday. The only exception will be for those rare Thursday night games in which those games will final at Noon PST Thursday.

So here was the rule amendment I put in some time ago. I've been lazy and haven't updated the OP with it. Um that last part I etched out because the turkey day game is at noon est so the cut off will likely be a couple hours before the game or the night before (such as 10 pm pst).

So sorry for those that forgot to pick you're being counted down as losses and junk

Well I'm in the lead but it doesn't feel all good and tingly. Kind of a !@#$y way of getting 1st. The upside though is that the fight for first should be much tighter and therefor much more interesting. Right now there is easily 4 people in the running for that spot.

Ugh.  Got some likely dumb picks there but whatever.  I went against my gut on a few of 'em so let's see how it goes.  Oakland has a shot (cuz Rivers is way off), Tampa may win, I think Indy is due (and Jacksonville is sucky), KC isn't a dome so god can see the Tebow One, Dallas is ... Romotastic, Atlanta is a team I'm not yet sold on (but neither is NO), the Browns could very well beat the notverygood Rams (another great football game to watch), Pittsburg is Pittsburgh ... sorta, the Niners are on a roll but Eli is playing out of his mind good for the most part, the Lions have so much heart and fire - two words Jay Cutler doesn't understand and the Jets are always a threat (I just think Brady isn't gonna lose another one so fast).  Meh, this is when it gets interesting I guess.

I don't think the Niners are good enough to go 14-2, so I figure they're about due for a loss.  I think they'll end up somewhere between 11-5 and 13-3.  But the Giants are as good a pick as any to beat 'em, since they won't lose in their division.

Glad you are back.  So I have this new Philip Rivers voodoo doll and a bunch of pins.  If you see him limp of the field tonight after throwing a pick, you will know why.

So I am pretty stoked on the Niners.  I picked them over Manning Junior and crew.

I don't pay for the NFL channel. I don't get to watch it. Put the games on a channel people actually get to watch it on.

I agree.  The only reason I have it is because I pay for the soccer channel.

Sorry for me looking at simple statistics and seeing that the raiders would probably win. :P

But seriously though the raiders have won almost all their away games this season and the chargers have lost almost all their home games as well. I thought this pick was easy between two teams with the same record, PF, PA and on the same coast.

ok working on tallying up scores and junk. will have them up in a few.

Ack, more 'fun' picks.  Oh well, guess that's the game.  I really hate pickin' against The Tebow One at home - a non dome, by the way, so god can see him - but Thursday isn't really a holy day so I think I'm ok.  Detroit ... I'm not confident in 'em.  Cleveland ... uhh ... yeah.  I don't believe Miami is back so screw 'em.  Romo is due for a flop but I don't think it'll happen just yet - plus that RB is insanely good.  I wanna pick Cincy but I don't think they're ready yet and I think Ray Lewis will stab Dalton into submission after that terrible performance in Seattle.  Speakin' of the Hawks, it physically hurts to pick a Pete Carrol team but the Rams are abysmal.  I'm worried about Atlanta after the disaster Sunday (if you're goin' for it on 4th and inches with a 6'5" QB, use the QB to sneak for the first) and Chris Johnson may be back.  Finally.  The Bears are hard to pick for because of Cutler's nature, but I think SD is done and the Bears are starting to put it together.  Philly is done and Vick is broken so ... not bad.  Neither is the New England pick.  Meh.

And if only I had got my first week picks in, I'd be winnin' this thing right now!

TD sent me his picks through email since he was banned for part of the week. I see that he is now unbanned so he can change stuff if he wants but this is when he had his picks. I don't feel like going back through the rules to see if this is 100% allowed (I might have stated that no private stuff like hidden picks) but I can look at that later. He's unbanned so he can always verify before the cutoff.

Tebow!  There is a god.  Never bet against Tebow when the game is played in an open stadium.  Any team with a retractable dome should close that sucka when Tebow comes preachin' in.  Wow.

Er ... either that or the Jets, you know, suck.

Or that the Jets havn't won a darn away game all season long (well 1 but 1 out of 4 isn't a good record to run on).

I'm going to have to add a note on my calendar to remember my picks. I can't afford another 0-fer.

Anyway, my picks are finalized, and the first game doesn't start for a couple hours, so here's hoping they count.

Here is the ruling that I've been to lazy to update the OP with because I'm a horrible game runner.

OK new rule amendment thingy. All picks are considered final at 10pm PST Saturday. The only exception will be for those rare Thursday night games in which those games will final at Noon PST Thursday.

I'm not always going to be waking up super early on Sundays so Saturday nights should be good.

I feel bad breaking rules I set in place but because this season has a good chance of having a great fight for first between 4 people I will let your picks count this week because they were before a game started. However, if this happens in a future week you are SOL. I will be pasting this rule to the OP right now as well.

I feel like this is probably the week that GB and SF could get defeated, but they just seem to be doing too well to lose some steam. Both the lions and the ravens have been doing well. The ravens are yet to lose a game at home this season. I'm stilling going with GB and SF though. My gut is kinda telling me to vote for the home team in both of those games though...

Blech.  Don't like a few picks there.  GB could lose to the Lions, I guess, but they aren't really disciplined enough yet.  Still, one bad week by Rodgers against a good week by Stafford and megatron means a loss.  The GB secondary has played one good game so far ... against the Vikings.  And they have a bad game against those same Vikings, too.  Dallas is still Romo-y and Miami is on a tear somehow.  Meh.  Baltimore's D is good, but I think SF's is better and that's the difference here.  Plus I think Gore is better than Rice.  Flacco can be better than Smith, but he can also be worse.  I guess it's gonna come down to Flacco, then.  And I can't trust him.

I don't wanna pick the Texans with Schaub out but the Jags are terrible.  Not even smart enough to run MJD against the Browns on third and goal for the win.  I hate picking the Jets but the Bills seem to have imploded.  Could be due for a win, though.  The Browns will not beat the Bengals (since I said that, they will so pick 'em ).  Atlanta is one I'm ok with, too.  Carolina at Indy ... Cam is good but he's also bad and I just don't think the Colts will lose every game.  That said, I haven't followed the Colts that much (cuz they suck) and Cam is really dynamic - more dynamic than the entirety of the current Colts roster.  Tampa just played GB pretty well so I gotta go with them.  And, you know, Tennessee.  Chicago at Oakland is interesting.  I don't think the Raiders have put it together enough to beat the Bears D so, even without Cutler I have to go Chicago.  Still, I don't like it.  Washington at Seattle ... well, the Hawks beat the Ravens at home so ... I dunno.  And yes, I know I'm picking against the 4 and 1 Tebow one in an open air stadium.  I guess I'm not ready to return to god just yet.  The Bolts completely falling apart doesn't help my confidence much, though.  New England against Philly is interesting cuz NE's D is not very good and Philly can have an explosive O.  Still, NE.  I think Pittsburgh has figured it out and their recent defensive stats bear hat out.

I hate Eli enough that I have to pick against him ... especially after losing to Vince Young.  Could be wrong, though, since the NO D is not great.

San Francisco at Baltimore - This pick is contingent on Ray Lewis playing.  If he doesn't, I pick SF.  (Can I do that, DF?)

Only if it is determined whether or not he'll play by Wednesday or else it will be a change past deadline and I'm not going to pay attention to exactly what players play and junk. So either just pick a team and stick with it or hope they announce if they're playing on Wednesday.

More ugly stuff.  I really wanted to ride the Tebow train - cuz it's the sane thing to do in this case - but it's under the roof in Minn.  Tebow can't talk to the man upstairs if there's a roof in the way.    Hanie sucks but I think da Bears at home are better than his suck.  Cleveland seems close to their standard once a year shock win.  Almost did it to Cincy.  And Hillis and Hardesty are back.  Still, it's the Browns against the Ravens.  Er, though the Ravens can stink it up on the road.  Meh.

He deserves it. Course I like to see Rivers cry so I'm ok if he doesn't. Overrated is putting it mildly.

I am pretty sure Norv is done for after this season.  I used to like Rivers before he threw more picks than touchdowns.  He is also a big part of the problem, and I don't think it would make any difference if he had time to chant a psalm after the snap like some QBs.

        Go Niners!

Ugh.  Can't believe I picked the Tebow One.  That means he'll lose, though.    Still, no Cutler, no Forte and a lot of Hanie means an 'L', IMO.  I honestly had a hard time takin' Atlanta, too.  Cam can just take over a game.  I hate picking Miami, too, but I'm pretty damned sure Philly is done.  Don't like takin' Cincy either but meh.  And Buffalo at SD?  Damn, it's not about pickin' a winner, it's about decidin' who's completely imploded and who is a game away.  Blech.  Giants/Boys should be good.  With how well NY played the Pack, I gotta go with them.  And yeah, that's it.

I do but I have more faith in Buffalo's fail.

Like previously stated I like to watch Rivers cry when he loses. BTW why is SD / Seabirds a MNF game? The MNF games are supposed to be good.

Schedules are made like 6 months prior to the season.  Six months before the season, people still thought SD was good and that the Seahawks were ... uhh, I dunno.  I guess they did make the playoffs and they did beat the Saints.  It sorta made sense.

I've got some ugly ones in there, that's for sure.  Don't like takin' the Texans but they're doin' ok without Schaub.  Never like pickin' Eli.  Pickin' Buffalo is dumb but I have faith that they'll beat the coachless Fish.  Really don't like pickin' the Hanies, but I think the D will rally after blowin' it against the Tebows.  Indy is due and this is winnable, IMO, but you have to pick against an o-fer, right?  I think Detroit has a lot to play for but so do tha Raidas.  Thing is, both QBs are interception machines and I just like Detroit better for some reason (I don't like 'em, I just like 'em for this game).  I finally got a W after switchin' to the Tebow side, but I don't think Billy B or Tommy B believe in god.  At least I think they believe in themselves a lot more.  Jets vs Philly sucks.  Under normal circumstances I'd be comfortable but ya can't count on the Eagles not quitting.  Meh.  The Browns could beat the Cards but ... they are the Browns.  Baltimore is just itchin' to lose this - I can feel it.  But the Chargers are just not good.  And the Steelers are really banged up and SF has really good D.  I just think that - even banged up - the Pittsburgh O can handle it.  This is a really good test game for SF, too.  We'll see where they are, I think.

EDIT: Just realized my text did not match my picks.  I had meant to select Arizona as the winner and chose the Browns instead.  I've made the correction.  My bad, ya'all.

EDIT2: Just saw I messed up another one.  What the hell is wrong with me this week?  Corrected.

Yeah, this week hurt.  And it changes stuff, too.  Since the perfect season is gone, GB only needs one win instead of trying to win out.  Interesting.  Oh, and there's some 2 win teams out there that the Colts will need to be careful not to do better than.

More tough picks.  I hate choosin' the Tebow one but he's burnt me too many damn times.    Giants/Jets is a toss up cuz both can be awesome and both can suck hard.  Still, Eli is better than Sanchise.  At least this year anyway.  I don't like takin' Detroit over SD but oh well.  Philly/Dallas is interesting and I think Philly is gonna end the disaster strong.  Finally coming together or something.  And I really, really hate to admit that pickin' against the Sea Birds at home is tough but it is.  San Fran doesn't have that far to travel, though, and their D is way, way better than Seattle's O - even with Beast Mode.  Chicago is done and so are GB's hopes for a perfect season - but GB still needs to win one to guarantee homefield throughout, I believe.  This is that one.  Atlanta's comin' back up but NO is really dangerous.  At home, I don't think the Saints will lose this one - especially since they could possibly catch GB.  It's gettin' interestin', folks.

I never did much research.  Just sorta figured for myself after following the results week in and out and listening and reading to analysis - which I'd do anyway.  I only listen when the games are on and I read a lot about football anyway.  Mostly, though, it's a feel thing.

I had to pick against the Pack.  With homefield throughout locked up, Brees breakin' Dan's record and literally no reason to play any starters, though, I have to take a purposefully depleted Pack to lose against a very motivated Detroit.  Boo.  I wanted to get off the Tebow train but couldn't do it.  Meh, it's almost over and I did ok.  Yay.

I'm thinking of extending this into the playoffs, but instead of adding onto this it would be everyone starts at zero and then we just do the same thing. So we'll have a season picks winner and a playoffs picks winner. What do you guys think?

With that said it was fun picking games with you guys. Lets try and remember to do this again next year/season.

        EDIT:

I noticed that all the scores are off 1 game. During the next few days, if nobody else does it before I do, I'm going to try and find at which week that happened and make the correction.

Heh, my MLB thing was just a joke.  I doubt anyone wants to keep track of well over a hundred games that are played pretty much every day of the week.

We could do March Madness, though.  'Course I'd have to start reading more NCAAB stuff than just Ohio State.

That's the beautiful thing about NCAA basketball - none of it matters 'til the end.  And they took out their frustrations on Nebraska with an over 30 point beat down so that sorta makes up for it.

Seriously, though, IU is good.  They beat Kentucky and OSU ... that's good.  'Course they did that at home, but so what.  Still quality wins.

OSU is a really young team, too, so that has something to do with it.  And it also highlights the worst thing about NCAAB - guys can leave after one year so teams rarely stay the same.  Meh.

It's tough to pick a depleted Houston team - especially one that may well start Jake Delhomme - but Cincy hasn't beaten a winning team yet this year.  New Orleans over Detroit was an easy pick for me cuz I think NO is the best team in the NFL right now (and that's coming from a Packers fan) and that goes double for when they're at home.  Detroit can put up huge numbers but I think a younger team in that environment will struggle and Detroit's shown a tendency to do exactly that.  That said, if they win I won't be too surprised.  They have weapons and when they get it together and stay calm they can dominate.  Then again, they just got absolutely shredded by Matt Flynn.  Ouch.  Pittsburgh over Denver seems to be a no brainer but the Tebow one can always surprise ya.  That said, I think a lot of teams are over the shock and he's not gonna be nearly as effective now.  With the safeties that Pittsburgh has, too, even if he is he'll have problems.  The only thing is that Pittsburgh has struggled to score occasionally, lost Mendenhall and has a banged up Big Ben.  If Denver's D can keep it close - and they can (though they've been decidedly meh as of late) - the Tebow one has a chance.  Atlanta/Giants is a tough one.  Atlanta is playing better, New York is playing erratically.  Eli is one of the top QBs this year, though, and both RBs are healthy and they have Victor Cruz and a good D.  Atlanta, apparently, is experiencing some internal strife between the O and the O coordinator.  So, I gotta go with NY.  Let the fun begin!

I'd like to pick houston but they lost their last 3 games of the season and losing to teams like the cults and Carolina. Part of that though is just probably not needing to win anymore to need home field advantage. I'm also not hot for Cincinnati since their play often seems shaky at best. They can play well against good teams but also very badly.

I feel that there is no question that NO will win.

The Pit has a hurt QB so I'd like to lean towards Denver, but the last half of the season Denver has had only barely wins or have gotten flat out roflestomped (and by bad teams). The Pit with hurt roethlisberger hasn't done so well, but the week he sat out (against the horrible rams) they did have a huge win. I'm thinking that if he isn't doing well by halftime and gets pulled out pit should win, and well if he's doing well pit should win.

Giants have been playing too well not to pick them. Not only playing well all season but even into the season end. If I'm not mistaken all other teams playing this weekend (with exception to NO i think) has lost at least 2 of their last 3 games.

Cool. Yeah some coaches are idiots. I like what he chose to do. Wish more coaches would do this kind of stuff. One single win is not worth a player's career let alone their life. Heck in pretty much all cases it's not worth doing worse the next season (cuz you know ya hurt a good player by having him play injured).

Good for you, 1-3 for me...Ugh.  I am running a pool at work, and the best of fifteen are three people tied at 3-1...nobody got 4-0.  We did brackets with ascending point values, so I still have a chance.  A very slight chance as I put the Niners all the way through, but what can I say...I want them to win!

Denver has been doing well lately but I don't think they are good enough to beat the Patriots especially after they barely beat a team missing some big players and having a very hurt QB. If they are going to struggle against a gimp pits then they shouldn't have much of a chance vs the Patriots.

I feel that this is the upset game. That being that I'm sure most everyone feels that NO should win. All they have though is an offense and well they're going up against a defense that is basically number 1 in almost all defensive stats and cause turn overs left and right. Also NO, like all the other "good" teams has pretty much no defense. That means niners meh offense should be quite effective. In this last decade there hasn't really been a powerhouse defensive team in the superbowl or having some sort of dynasty. Everyone is 100% offense and doing epic shootouts. I'm picking the niners and saying that their superb defense would bring them through. Also NO has had all their losses this season on the road. They're on the road against a team who has only had one loss at home. Go Niners.

I'm not sure what I want to pick with giants vs GB. I'm sure GB will win but IIRC GB played the giants in regular season and only won by like one possession. I'll have to think on this one some more.

Both teams are about equal stat wise but Baltimore has not lost at home yet and I doubt they'll start now.

I like NE's D against Denver's O better than I like Denver's O against NE's admittedly terrible D.  Belichik worked Tebow over once and if you don't think he can unravel Denver's O again, I think you're wrong.  I think Tebow has a chance if he can throw like he did last week.  I don't think he'll be able to do that.  And Brady?  C'mon.  It's Tom Brady.

New Orleans at SF is interesting.  NO doesn't play as well on either side of the ball when outside and off the fast track.  That said, they've got all the momentum you can find this postseason, the attitude, the experience, the depth and the health.  SF has a great D - no doubt about it - but it isn't the best D in the history of the game and it's not even the best D this year.  NO, though, has a QB that's besting records that stood for nearly three decades and is averaging a massive amount of points.  I think that wins here.  I don't see them putting a 50 spot on SF, but I see them scoring enough to make it impossible for SF's one dimensional and not point crazy O to keep up.

I'm picking GB because they have the best record and they're my team.  NY is incredibly dangerous right now, though, and that makes it an honestly difficult choice to make.  GB's D is not good.  So not good, in fact, that they enter the postseason with the worst D of any team in the league.  Yep, worse than even NE's D.  And NY's rushing attack is finally healthy and clicking again.  To make it worse, Eli and Nicks and Cruz can lay waste to a good secondary - especially when play action becomes viable - and GB's secondary isn't ... good.  The last time these two teams played, it took a last minute drive with some spectacular throws by Rodgers to win it for the Pack.  The thing about that is GB remained completely cool, completely confident and walked down the field like NY's D wasn't even on it.  I think GB's O is the best unit on the field in this game and I think it's good enough to win it.  I think GB's D will tighten up just enough to make NY struggle.  I feel they'll try to establish the run early, get stuffed enough long enough to fall behind and that that will do it.  Er, I hope.

Baltimore over Houston is the only pick I feel super confident about.  And even then I have to think TJ Yates and Arian Foster and that great D have a real shot.  Flacco can suck hard.  If he does, I just don't know.  Baltimore's D is getting old and it's starting to show.  Foster can make a slow middle pay so hard all day long.  If Flacco makes mistakes and Yates doesn't, I think the Texans can pull out the win.  That said, I think the bye week is gonna be enough for Baltimore's D to regain enough swagger to put it in Flacco's hands.  If he's comfortable and Rice can run the ball, it's Baltimore's game.

Grr.  I knew I shoulda picked the Giants.  Just didn't feel right about the Pack.  That's what you get when you support 'your' team over the facts, though.  Meh.  I'm torn about the Giants/9rs game.  The 9rs were damned impressive in beating the Saints but they should have absolutely crushed 'em.  Five turnovers and they have to win at the last second?  Yeah, call me crazy but I'm still not totally sold on that offense - 30 points or not.  Still, their D is awesome.  Like, totally awesome.  Then again, the Giants' D ain't no slouch.  Gonna be a good'n.

Baltimore and NE is interesting because I'm gonna pick the team with the worst D left.  I mean, Baltimore's D is great and NE's is not but Baltimre didn't even hit 300 yards (IIRC) yesterday.  That's pitiful.  Houston's D is good, though.  Still, there's something to be said for Tom Brady against Joe Flacco - and at home, too.  So yeah, I'll be takin' the Pats and not feelin' too nervous about it.

        Here we go:

        Baltimore at NE

        New York at San Fran

There, I did it.  Still don't feel great about countin' the 9rs out but I just think NY is the better team.  Barely, but better.  I see two good defenses and one good offense.  The 9rs O is ok.  The Giants' O is dangerous.  If anything, this should be a lower scoring game than the last one.  Heh.

And congrats to draco for being the only one to get the NYG-GB game correct. I had a gut feeling NYG would win but for some reason I still picked the obvious choice of GB to win.

All in all I'd say that most of everyone still has a chance to win.

        NY Giants at San Fransisco

        Baltimore at New England

I was hoping for a GB win because frankly I feel that niners would have a better chance against the Packers. I feel confident that they'd be able to stop GB's Off well enough and that GB's bad def wouldn't be able to stop the Niners even on a bad day for the niners. But it's the Giants and the Giants ain't bad on either side of the ball. IMO quite a well balanced team and that's probably the worst case scenario for the Niners. I'm going with the niners because they did beat the Giants during the season (barely) and the game is at home. Should be a close game.

I don't know much about Baltimore except that what I've seen of them the couple of games I've scene this year is that they're good on both sides of the ball. Not great but good enough. I feel that they can't stop NE well enough and that NE wont be able to stop an offense like Balt well enough. Hmmm. IDK. I sort of feel that a team like NE is all about shoot outs and that they only do good against other shoot out teams and horrible team. That if a team that is good on both sides of the goes up against them that they can easily be smashed. Kind of like the Giants-Packers game this last weekend. But this next week the Giants will be played by Baltimore and the Packers will be played by the Patriots.

OK actually this is how I feel about the games. On Saturday if the Niners win then Baltimore wins sunday for a Harbaugh vs Harbaugh superbowl. If the NY Giants win then NE wins for a repeat of the superbowl a few years ago. A chance for the NE to go out for blood and win their title back from Giants so to speak.

Both scenarios would be great for media coverage.

Anyways I was hoping for the last two games the niners played were GB and NE because 1) they are the "good" teams so a niners superbowl win would mean that much more and 2) those teams seem to rely heavly on "luck" deep passes that and other risky passing that the niners have eatin up all year with great blocks, near interceptions and, well, great interceptions. The Niners might give up times of passing yards but they are second in league with interceptions. Basically, I feel that they would be great games for the niners to shine. Neither team would have a chance in hell with running and passing would seem more luck based for those teams. And well it's not like we need to worry about niners offense in these games. They're the two worst defenses in the league.

Can I have some of what you're smoking, please?  Lambeau Field in January would have been a worst-case scenario for the Niners.  They have a much better chance of beating the Giants at The 'Stick than they would have had playing the Packers on the Heated Tundra.

        I just had a thought:
Looking at the rankings and picks after the NE/BLT game, I noticed that there are currently only 3 people still in the running (me, df, and ZB).  If SF wins, then it's only me and df.  And, since only one (or 0) game will separate us, it might be worthwhile for us not to know each other's picks in advance.  So I propose that the people still in the running PM their picks and final scores to one of the others still involved, and that person posts them after s/he's received all three.  Would that be acceptable?  Or is it completely unnecessary?

Looks like we all done gone screwed up with the exception of ZB because he made bad picks that barely came true when neither of those teams probably should have won but some how luck was on their side. yep, im not bitter one bit.

I kind of like your idea draco. We need someone to volunteer to be the 3rd party. both draco and ZB can win. The best I can do is tie if both of you pick the same team and I pick the opposite. If there is a 3 way tie we should probably come up with some kind of tie breaker or something or we can just have a lame 3 way win thing.

Sooo ... I was right!  HAHAHAHAAHAHAAAAA!  I was totally right!!!!

Seriously, though, those were awesome games.  The SF game played out almost how I thought it would.  The 9rs 'offense' couldn't convert a third down.  Ever.  So, two good Ds and one good O - pick the O, IMO.  I was a little surprised with the Baltimore game.  Their O played a little better than I thought they would - largely because nobody in NE's secondary can, you know, make a tackle.  I'm not sure about how I feel about witnessing Billy Cundiff's last kick as a Raven, though.    Anyhoo, at least they explained why Baltimore went for it on that one fourth down - apparently, Cundiff is like 5-19 carreer at over 50.  U-gly.  That was crazy, though.  He makes that kick, the coin drops the right way and the Ravens have a better than even chance of winning the game.  If they lose the toss, they still have an even shot, IMO.  One stupid kick.  Heh.  Shank-city.  Special teams decides both games.  Kinda lame, kinda cool.

If it's any consolation to anyone for any reason, I watched the NE game and the first half of the SF game at my friend's house ... and he had other guests ... and they brought their toddler ... and my friend has two young boys.  So yeah, I got to listen to an awful lot of screaming and incredibly shrill screaming at that.  My ears ... my god, my ears.  Yeah, so it's no wonder that I left at halftime of the second game - when the kids decided to get all amped up for some reason.  Man, that sucked.

Yes it is good consolation that you were bothered enough by youngsters so that you could not properly enjoy your being correct.

I was kinda disappointed with the niners game. Their defense played horribly. Their special teams was horrible, but partly because gin is out. Akers basically had not chances to perform (a rarity so far for the niners). And Alex Smith was being Alex Smith. Sometimes he plays really good and other times he plays very horribly. If you need a third yard conversion and you have less than 5 yards to go just give it to gore. It seemed like gore was averaging something like 6-8 yards per carry that game. It's cool and all that they tried big throw plays but really there isn't anybody he can pass to but davis. Especially since the niners couple of best receivers are out on injury.

With how bad the Niners played I'm not feeling that the Giants are good enough to win the superbowl. That is until I remember the other game. Brady didn't look good at all. He played horribly. Looked like a total noob out there. Like if he played like that against the niners there would have been about 6 interceptions by the end of the game. If he plays like that for the superbowl I'm sure the Giants can win. If he plays like his normal self I'm sure the patriots can tea bag the Giants to teh end of the earth.

I'm not sure which team to pick because i'm not sure i can be confident on which team will show up with their game faces on for the superbowl. Other than that I don't feel any excitement for the superbowl. Maybe it's because there is no good teams in the superbowl this year.

OK im kinda glad the niners lost. a little bit. I'm not sure if smith + injuries can protect the niners perfect superbowl appearance record so kinda glad they didn't make it. I'd like for the niners to get better and more consistent before they go to teh superbowl again.

Yeah, I'm not sure who I'm gonna pick.  I mean, if SF won I was takin' them all day.  But they showed what happens when you have no O and rely on turnovers - if they don't come, you lose.  Still, were I a 9rs fan, I'd be pretty stoked.  They have the foundation of a really, really good team.  I don't think anyone is gonna be sleepin' on 'em next year but I also don't think it'll matter.  They're legit good and should be for a few years at least.

It's easy to say 'pick the more complete team' for the SB.  Thing is, if you picked the more complete team to win the AFC Championship, you were wrong.  Close, but wrong.  A bad Brady beat a good Baltimore D.  That's why I just don't know.  Factor in the fact that the NE D did what a Belichick coached team does and performed when they needed to and I really don't know.  It's totally conceivable that the Giants could blow NE out.  It's also conceivable that they could be blown out.  More likely, it'll be a game that comes down to the wire.  But I just don't know.  Ain't football great?

I just feel that the Giants are a more complete team and if you pair their O players against the Pats D, you have the potential for Eli to be able to keep up with Brady.  Brady has also been pretty 'meh' (for him) against teams not named the Denver Tebows in the playoffs over the last few years .  The Giants D is exactly the type that gives him problems, too.  They'll get after him and that will cause problems for NE.

That said, it's like really super hard to ever count out Brady.  I mean, he's Tom friggin' Brady.  So, if the Pats win I won't be flabbergasted.  Unlikely stories happen all the time in the NFL.  It's why we watch.  And this wouldn't really be all that unlikely, either.  I'm pretty sure the Pats are still favored for some reason.  Record?  I mean, they've got the second worst D in the league.  Meh.  They still have Tommy and Billy.  Gronk bein' hurt doesn't help them, though.  Still, like I said, I won't be surprised if they win.  Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they won by 14.  I did pick the Pats to beat the superior D'd Ravens, too.  'Course Flacco is no Eli.

The kewl thing is that scores won't matter since we picked different teams.  The score part was what I was truly worried about, heh.

heh. Cheating in competitive sports is quite common. I don't like cheating, but I find it hard to believe that the Patriots were the only ones doing it. It's more likely they're the only ones that got caught. I mean there are reasons why they put stuff in front of their mouths while they talk. There is also a reason to why there is a huddle now. A lot of stuff actively done by teams is done to try and prevent cheating.

Yup.  And players do their best to intercept and read calls while on the field.  You can see it work, too.  Watch - well, someone like Eli is great for this - a QB that uses the same word to indicate certain stuff out of certain formations.  Eventually guys pick it up and crush the play before it starts.  Can't remember what commentator it was (Collinsworth?) but he was, apparently, talked to about it by someone because he would mention when Eli did it in game.  Eli shouts 'Omaha' to get the snap and, it seems, in certain formations a certain 'Omaha' always snaps the ball.  And you can see the major jump the D gets on those plays.  It's really interesting stuff.  But yeah, every guy on the field is trying to figure the other side's code out.  It's part of the game.

And yeah, the best example of how common it's at least perceived to be is how 99% of coaches cover their mouths when they call plays.  Someone somewhere is trying to read the call - even if it's just someone sitting and watching the broadcast.  All it takes is an open phone call and a few words to impact the play.

Oh, and baseball is also notorious for this.  Guys try to steal pitch and defense signs all the time.  They'll even make sacrifices to try and do it.  Take a strike, pretend to bunt, whatever in order to try and see if the sign they think they understand means what they think it does.

The more games I watch of Eli Manning the more I realize that he's worse than Alex Smith. Eli couldn't hit the broad side of a barn to save his life. If it wasn't for his extremely great recievers he'd never complete a pass. Almost no pass by him was directly to a reciever. It was always something they had to make an effort to reach.  Half the time is was just miles away for no reason. Of course the announcers blame the reciever for running a bad route and not Eli for sucking.

Brady is good but made some dumb mistakes like that first play. bleh.

        halftime show sucked.

        giants suck. eli sucks.

87 on the patriots could have had a good chance to catch that last throw if he would have dove, but didn't and cost the game for his team. I don't know who he is and don't feel like looking it up but he should be cut. It's the superbowl. Make the effort. He practically had the ball without the dive. Just a bit more effort means the difference between glory and being a loser. Make the effort.

also, eli sucks. have i mentioned how bad he is? Well he's bad. really bad. Without guys like cruz or nicks who can catch anything within 5 miles of them the giants wouldn't have a passing game. simple as that.

First, how many Superbowl wins does Alex Smith have?  Jus' sayin', homie.

Second, 87 is Rob Gronkowski - the guy that holds the record for single season yardage by a tight end.  He set the record this year.  His ankle was totally borked so he wasn't able to get into a good position.  I think if he was healthy, he wouldn't have needed to dive.  He'd have been down in time to be part of the jump ball and he's way bigger than NY's corners and safeties so it would have been uber interesting.  Oh yeah, he also took a pic with Bibi Jones ... a pr0n star.  So that's, you know, cool.

The last two halftime shows were pathetic. For the Maddona show my GF was sitting there yelling at the tv you need to loose all of the excessive clothes and dance... That creature can't sing, and she has never been attractive. They really need to stick with good rock groups. Why in hell did they not talk VH into playing? It would have made sence, they just released an album with DLR for the first time in 25 years.

Dance?  Your gf wanted Madonna to dance more?  She knows Madonna is like 60, right?  And wore massive heels.  And was on an elevated stage for most of the show.  I mean, damn, bro.  That's way too harsh.  Give gramma some props.  She ain't no 30-somethin' dancer.  And her show was way, way better than the BEP show last year.  Oh, and if the SB ever gets Van Halen to perform at halftime, it may be the first Superbowl I refuse to watch.  On principle.  Van Halen sucks.

VH was always terrible.  Every song sounds the same - awful.  Just terrible stuff.  And I don't get why they always pull a bunch of 60 something rockers out on their rockers to play halftime.  I mean, the Stones?  Really?  The Who?  Why?  But it's not like there's really any sort of good new rock band lightin' up the world right now, either.  Most rock music today is all whiny an' stuff and who wants to hear whinin' during halftime?

        I can only dream.

They could get Chevelle to play for the half time. Honestly they are probably one of the best bands going right now. Problem is the SB is run by a bunch of old geezers that are about 20 to 30 years out of date, unless they try to emulate what we 'whippersnappers ' like... Black Eyed Peas anyone? Yeah. That's what happens when you let old people run Entertainment.

Although really I didn't think Madonna did a bad job at all. Look at the friggin stage she had to work with. Then there's the shoes. She was much better than the last like... 8 super bowl half times.

Close-ish is another way of saying loser. If this is the kind of stuff the pats wanna do to win then well I guess they deserved their loss.

You are right there are none that are lighting up the world right now but something like Cage the Elephant wouldn't be a bad start.

I stick by my eli sucks stance. IMO Montana isn't a good quarter back but he's got quite a few rings. Not because he's a great quarter back but because he had a good crew around him and the coaching staff recognized his limitations. Picking plays within those limitations all of a sudden makes an OK quarter back look great. Kinda like how Alex smith went from looking like junk to throwing only 5 interceptions this year. Less than half that he's thrown in any one season teh whole rest of his career. And if I'm not mistaken that's a 49ers franchise record for a starting quarter back. Yeah did better than Montana and Young in that stat.  I think this is also a 49ers record, he set a personal record for passing yards. Basically by the coaching staff knowing and calling plays to the limitations of their players those that look horrible now start performing way better.

From what I see of eli he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Almost ever. But his doods like cruz and nicks seem to have great hands. almost 100% of eli's passes go to these guys each game it seems unless they are being double covered. A good quarter back like brady would still be able to get the ball to these guys and do it consistently. Even though playing bad the last two games he did show this ability. Eli was over throwing passes, under throwing and well just being off all over the place. The thing is that eli's receivers were able to do what they gotta do to catch these bad balls (mainly only if they weren't double or triple covered but that's because eli would 100% pass to the next guy down his list/line).

The giants receivers are amazing. I have a feeling that with the giants coaching staff and offensive unit that almost any quarter back in the NFL can be put into that position and consistently have a playoff caliber team. Having someone like a brady or pre injury peyton would more than likely lead to a NYG dynasty.

To sum it up eli's rings are not a function of his talent. It has more to do with the offensive unit that supports him and the coaches that know and call plays within his limitations.

The point is that Madonna isn't bad for someone in her 50s and even though the halftime was better than times previous it doesn't mean the halftime was good by any stretch of the imagination.

And I'm not sure why but I have this king for nicki minaj. I know she's dumb and her music is annoying, but something about her dumb barbie doll look and hawt blackness with the whole thing being some dumb act or something like that seems appealing.... I think.

That's it I'm starting a band. One of the goals will be to get into the SB halftime show while in our prime.

        Thy point has been made.

39 yards and 7 carries which bought the Giants time, let alone all the blocking he did.

Jacobs still has it. He's not Williams and Stewart by any means but I'd still put him on my team any day.

Tebow is going to follow the Jake The Shake Pattern. Look good for 2 years, then he'll throw 9 interceptions per game and be laughed right out of Denver. He's a John Fox product after all.

I think Tebow may end up ok.  Not great, but a sort of poor man's Cam Newton.  Like, Elway even said he's gonna help Tebow out with his mechanics an' stuff.  And he did shred Pittsburgh's secondary in the playoffs.  If the D holds up and he improves even a little, he'll be ok.  Since his coach has shown a willingness to work with Tebow's talents instead of forcing him into a role he isn't fit for, I'd say the odds are decent he can turn into something that doesn't totally suck.  Maybe.

And Jacobs sucks.  He's got a rep for being soft - and he's massive.  There's no reason for it aside from attitude.  He has the physical tools and even used to use them.  Now he just sorta shows up and collects a check.  There's a reason Bradshaw is the number one back now, you know.

Yeah, New England doesn't have much in the way of a rushing attack.  Though BJGE has never fumbled in the NFL.  Ever.  Still, he doesn't gain alot of yards, either.  Not like they need him to, though.  And he did play pretty ok in the playoffs aside from the SB.  But yeah, NE has no D and no running game.  It really is amazing they made it as far as they did and showed up as well in the SB.

Actually NE's D if you only count denying the score (and not yards allowed etc), they ranked 15th in the league.
Vs 39th by the average rating. Fun fact that was brought up during the game.

And VH sucks. They were OK in their prime. They are horrible now. Has anyone heard their new stuff? sucks, but tattoo is kinda stuck to me. It still sucks though. If this doesn't make sense it's because I'm drinking. If it makes sense it's probably because I'm drinking.

And honestly that's all you should really rate about a D. Can they prevent points and get the O back on the field.

Don't care if he set records or was some top notch player during season. If he's healthy enough to play he's healthy enough to do whatever he needs to do to make the play. It's the superbowl. If he can't make that dive or reach that little grab the ball or out jump the other guys to catch it like he might be able to do when healthy then he shouldn't be out on the field.

        PS

        Eli sucks

Eli 'Two Rings' Manning sucks?  Eli 'The Brady Slayer' Manning is no good?  Eli 'The Smith Smasher' Manning is second rate?  Eli 'The Niners Nuker' Manning isn't worthy of a starting job?  I disagree.

It's easy to hate on Eli and I'm in no way one of his fans.  His struggles last year brought me much joy.  But dood, this year?  He was in the top 3 -5 QBs all season.  And he's got 2 SB wins.  I hate to say it, but he's good.  He's certainly got the resume.

She should talk to bellicheck then *nods sagely* They Patriots could only benefit from her sound advice....

Oh yeah, I'm sure you guys will get your wish.    Seriously, though, Welker is a free agent so there has to be an outside chance.  Then again, Brady did just say he'd like to throw to Welker as long as possible ... and that was after the SB.  Very, very doubtful he'll be gone.

On Giselle: Stay cute and shut up.

He wasn't healthy enough, obviously.  He played that game pretty much as a decoy and - for some reason - it worked for a lot of the game, too.  He was in on that particular play because of his size and his hands.  They didn't have anyone better to put in there instead of Gronk.  If he were 100%, though, he would have been in better positon.  Still, even hurt he made it close-ish.

On Gronkowski: He was healthy to party afterward.  If your ankle's too injured for you to catch a pass, then it's too hurt to be dancing on stage.  Just sayin'.

If this doesn't make sense it's because I'm drinking. If it makes sense it's probably because I'm drinking.

And yet him being soft is still better than anything New England had on the ground game :-p

Oh wait. I forgot. New England's ground game consists of..

"ground? lol... lolground.. We have the greatest QB of All Time of All Time!!!1111. "

And honestly that's all you should really rate about a D. Can they prevent points and get the O back on the field.

39th?!  Dizzam, yo.  That's uber bad.  I mean, since there's only 32 teams in the league an' all.
