Young boy born with mystic powers, destined to save the world, evil nation trying to conquer world, wacky hi-jinks and kooky cast of characters that happen along the way, occasional angst, all deaths happen off-screen, the usual. It was actually a pretty good cartoon.

What's the film suppose to be about? Unfortunately, there is no official plot to the film yet, so here's the synopsis of the series: When the hostile Fire Nation threatens to enslave the Water, Earth, and Air Nations, a reluctant and irresponsible boy must face his destiny as the Avatar, the Chosen One who can restore the world order. This new animated series centers on twelve-year-old Aang, who must forgo his selfish wandering to learn to master his latent powers over the four elements. Only then can he conquer the Firebenders, the evil magi who threaten the world. Written by Sara Stern Levin, Nickelodeon
#5 owls_and_more_owls May 22, 2009 15:08:15	Have you noticed that Hollywood has a clear path when determining what is a superior medium? Comic Book ==> Live-Action Movie. (Watchmen, Batman) Animated Television Show ==> Live-Action Movie. (Dragonball, Avatar, Transformers) Video Game ==> Live-Action Movie. (Silent Hill, Tomb Raider) Why? I don't think that a Comic Book or an animated show is somehow incomplete without real-life actors to act them out. I don't think Live-Action Movies are inherently superior to other forms of media. In fact, there are several times where it would be better to for a movie to be animated. The fact is, there's a reason the fight scenes in the Clone Wars (The Gendy Tartokofsky version, not that new bull****) were better than the fight scenes in the original movies. It's because animated characters can do things that overpaid actors who went through a week of training cant.
#6 dirtyfrank May 22, 2009 15:49:02	In general, I think people tend to like action movies more so if you take a animated show, comic or video game that most are not familiar with and make it an action movie then you might be able to draw in a larger crowd than just those die hard fans that already know about the animated show/comic/video game. At least this is my take on it.

There are plenty of people who love Batman, but don't want be one of those guys/gals that has stacks of batman comics laying around in protective sleeves. Movies allow a story to pass beyond the comic or gaming subculture and into the mainstream. Not that I think it's superior, mind you. Nine times out of ten, I'd rather see a movie done anime-style, and with exceptional production value. The other reason movies/television seem to have an edge over comics/manga is that they can use music to help generate mood and atmosphere.

I'll see this eventually, although I am looking forward to the next one more, as season 2 was a lot better than 1 or 3 (In my opinion) I'm glad you brought that up, actually, as squeezing 30 hours of stuff into a 1-2 hour space is a lot harder than squeezing 10 hours of stuff into a 1-2 hour space. This whole "movie-per-book" trilogy deal is much needed to preserve the show's continuity.

What sucks is after the movie, any kind of toys or video games will look like the movie version as apposed to the cartoon version... Anyway. my biggest complaint is no Toph... The blind bandit was the coolest character....
#18 awestriker Jun 26, 2009 9:06:32	You're not reading the whole thread. Toph doesn't come in until the second movie, unless you're talking about that swamp vision scene. You're right though, Toph is cool, and Katara, Sokka, and Zuko especially are not Katara, Sokka, and Zuko. Unless the scar gets digitally edited in, that is.

He is actually pretty good at the latter, and I'm to understand his contributions to writing the film are minimal.
