Ok... so... my friend got the 4E core set for his birthday (the traitor!), and since his dorm is 30 feet away from mine, he told me that it was ok for me to borrow them. Now... I'm interested in playing in a Play by Post game here on the forums, but I think finding the right group is very important. So is anyone on the OTT starting up a PbP game that I could join in on? Keep in mind this would be my first time playing 4E and my first time playing in a PbP game, so I'll be a little slow on the uptake. Anyway, thanks for any help or advice you can give me. I like most of you guys (even if you are a little cutthroat ;)).

I believe pigknight's campaign is still open for players.

There are a few "intro" games being run - I think the idea is to run a few every month or so, to get people new to 4E/PbP. Contact jaywolfe82 for more info.

You also want to keep an eye on this thread and this post (this lists all the games currently running in the Haven). Actually, reading the whole thread would probably help too.

Hope it helps! :D

Ugh. If you're going to do PbP, why the heck would you want to use a bunch of stuffy rules designed for PnP? I've never been in a PbP before that used actual manual rules for some lame battle basis, and actually managed to work out. And by work out, I mean not get bogged down for days on end on dice roles and rules, while playing in a system (PbP) that isn't designed for that sort of thing.

If you're going to do PbP, then that's exactly what you should be doing; Play by posting. Not by dice rolling. "Statistics" shouldn't be anything more then basic character fluff and background, so that others know a bit about the character, then try to learn that information in-character. Unless you're playing with complete whiners, cheats, and/or Godmoders, then you should never have to result to system (d20) to determine the outcome of whatever story happens to be going on.

Sorry. That sort of stuff just bugs the hell out of me when I see people willingly subjecting themselves to that kind of BS. I'll stop now.

On the flip side of that, I love to PbP myself! :D (When you do 'em properly anyway.)

On the flip side, I could rant on and on about the "free form" PbP games that I can't stand.

But I'd rather not knock something when it just comes down to a matter of opinion. I'd rather talk up what I like than talk down what I don't (cause, you know, it's not universal).

:P

Oh don't mind me. I'm an opinionated ass, and I like to say my piece from time to time. Maybe I'd change my tune if I could ever be involved in a d20-PbP that actually worked and didn't devolve into slowdown (from dice rolls), slowdown (from rules review), slowdown (from "character building"), slowdown (from "monster building"), slowdown (from "encounter building"), and ... ah, I think you get the point. I like 'em fast-paced, free-form and not bogged down by dice.

If I wanted to play slow RPG's, I'd play PnP. :P

Course, on the flip side of that, I'd be more then happy to discuss the pros of each from different PoV's.

Then I guess you've never played in an OTT PbP. I'm talking both a PnP and free-form style OTT PbP.

How do you mix PnP with free-form PbP? I've seen people try, but usually the system is some sort of background over-universe battle system. A generic, "roll dice for all this" kind of deal. Usually pretty funny when one side "wins" in the RPings (where it's supposed to count), but utterly looses in the actual dice rolls. I've seen mismanaged systems like that, if that's what you're talking about?

I'm not sure if I want it to be more RP based or dungeon crawl based.

I don't care, as long as I get to play!! :D Though TBH, I prefer killing things, myself. ;)

Can we be high level? :D

We don't mix it. We just do one or the other. The Edition War RP stuff is a free form game. We (OTTers) will sometimes rack up 100+ posts in a day no problem. With a PnP style game a group of us can get a combat done in an afternoon.

Would you want to be paragon, epic or high heroic?

Ah, so it's a matter of Either Or. Well that's fair for the opposite ends of the spectrum's. I'd dig to be in a serious DnD free-form game myself, but it's hard to find blokes who don't use d20 stuff. I mean, a bit is fine, but not all out or for every occasion. It's just not my style. I play D&D already, why'd I wanna roll virtual dice online? :P

Whoa... I think I derailed this thread faster then a farmer can milk a goat while helping to delivery a baby calf. My bad ya'll.

Ooh! :interested:

I posted on Pigknight's OOC thread for his campaign, asking if he would accept another player. Thanks, everyone, for your help!

Hm ... well, I've got the paragon-level Bard, and it wasn't too hard to make her up, but I haven't played too much, so I'm not sure about Epic.

Whatever level you feel comfortable running - I'd love to play with higher-level stuff though. I'm tired of making up 1st-level characters. :P

Now you see, if I could find that level of enthusiasm for a free-form style game, I'd be set. I admit to rampant jealous against all you.

Another game I won't be able to play in? You jerk. Oh wait. Another game I might not be able to play in? You're still a jerk. :P

I was thinking of making it be a weekday only game so that it would be reasonable for you to participate in. The big thing is that I might start it.

I'm always up for more PbP games if your not sick of me yet. They go so slow, I like to spread my seed to as many as possible to stay interested. Otter PbP games seem to progress faster (Because Otters are post *****s) so I'd definetly like to join DF's if he makes ones.
