Formatting the Look of the Forums

The forums are... painful to look at in their current format. Is there any way at all that I can change how they appear to me? The harsh contrast between the reds, whites, and darks makes it uncomfortable to hang around here, and I'd love some way of changing the backgrounds, if that's at all possible.

 

Also, is there some method of reorganizing how one navigates the forums? Currently after I post in a thread, it seems I have to go Menu, Dungeons & Dragons, and Forums again, even though I'm already here. That becomes especially punishing if I'm kicked out and have to sign in again.
