Does your mental image of other posters reflect as much upon their avatar as their comments?

I remember I once mistakenly called White Sorcerer, White Sorceress because of his my little pony avatar

Only if their avatar is presented as a picture of themselves.  (Hint, I'm really that chalky in real life!  my color is inconsistent and shows the grain of my paper!)

Unless it's a photograph, not much.
I make sure I keep my avatar that way ;)

I know how easy it is to start identifying a poster by their avatar. And it gets confusing when an avatar gets popular. That's why on the last iteration of the boards I avoided changing avatars. My original avatar was an image of Arcanis the Omnipotent, then I swapped to Perceptor, from G1 Transformers, when I got a custom avatar for being a GenCon reporter back in... '05? I think it was '05.

Anyway, these days I simply use my ugly mug.

Don't be so hard on yourself!  That' just not true!  It's a face, not a mug!

It's a combination of names and avatar for me. If they have a photo of themselves though I associate that photo with that poster obviously.

Though certain posters just through sheer consistency in style convey an image that's quite different than their avatar.

There seems to have been a noticeable drop in the Jace and Chandra avatars after I made a post complaining about like 80% of the people having them. Maybe I has magic powers...

Everyone change your avatar to Black Hole, do it gogo;

My tail is not as long as portrayed in my avatar.  I had it "enhanced"...."jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden" />

It depends on the avatar. Some just say a heck of a lot more than others about what that person is probably like--or at least their tastes. For example, I can tell Zombie_Babies has impeccable taste, because Ursula Vernon is awesome incarnate.

I actually tend to try to harness this phenomenon to affect how people view me; when I choose an avatar I do so partly based on what I like, but also based on the image of myself I would like to project to other people.

About the only thing you could tell from mine is that I like cats. Color doesn't matter, all kitties are cute little kitty-witties in my book, even the hairless ones. It's my name that throws people. They get the "kitty" but not the "shift". It has to do with clutches, shift points, and other car related things. (Cars are one of my other passions in life. I wanted to be a race car driver. Never knew how to get into it, though.)

Now everyone will want you to say what do you think about other posters based on their avatars.

Yes & No.

Yes; because I am a human being {surprise!} and thus I respond to visual stimulus the same as anyone. If I see an avatar and writing beneath it, then I tend to match image with words. In such a case, if the avatar in question is... "odd" I may automatically feel mixed about the words being read therefore.

No; because I am an even-minded {surprise!} human who likes to give everyone the benefit of the doubt - without disregarding words based on a picture.

Course, my avatar changes with my mood. I'm not really sure what anybody thinks {even myself} when they see a picture of an antique lock mechanism. Ha.

And all this time I thought the "shift" part was a reference to extradimensional type activity. I presumed the Shiftkitty was a creature akin to the Displacer Beast. Smile

I really prefered Sturm to the old guy on life support, you know...

He was a much better villian...

Indeed. Especially AW1 Sturm, before he got ****ed by the character artists.

Shouldn't you have at least found a higher resolution image of your little black hole symbol?

Oh yes, it's certainly not as good as your Black Hole avvy- Wait, that's right, you don't have one .

But yeah, if you can do better than me (With mah vast arsenal of Google image search and MS paint) feel free to post it .

I don't want one.  I draw my own avatars.

But, since you asked so nicely...

BLACKHOLE.png

I wasn't sure if the un-even nature was intentionall or not, so I went with a kinda smokey/charcoal feel, like a symbol someone scrawled on a wall rather then a corporate logo.

Actually, it is sort of a corporate logo...

I mean, armies are are businesses...

See this wikipedia article for more info.

You asked if I could do better, I did better.  What you do with it from there is your business.
