So my girlfriend's dad works for an airline. In either March or April he is getting free and highly discounted flights for his family and a limited number of non-family guests. My girlfriend and I were thinking of taking a trip to another country. Any suggestions? Only places I'd like to avoid are countries in Central and South America...

I would go in either Japan, Australia, Ireland, Belgium or Portugal.

Japan is so exotic.

Australia would be a trekking experience.

Ireland is lush green, old castles and lots of out of work drunken Irishmen to laugh at.

Beligum is a just a wonderland of tasty tasty beers.

Portugal is a wonderland of tasty tasty port wines.

You could also visite Québec and buy cigarettes from Native Americans!

I can drive 10 minutes and buy cigarettes from Native Americans here in Florida. I was thinking of Quebec. My GF has a cousin who lives in Quebec, but she is annoying. We won't be visiting her, but if you're up for it we can meet up, and get a drink. You'll have to show us around.

I wanted to go to Scotland, but my GF said I can't run around with a sword pretending to be in the highlander movie.

What do you want from your vacation?

Normally I would've suggested Egypt but with the current situation there, maybe not such a good idea.

I personally enjoyed my vacations in the Czech Republic, they have quite beautiful countryside and old ruined castles and stuff.

Italy, so you can see Pompei before it completely falls apart.

You could fly to Cleveland so you can check out the ... wait, that's closed.  Well there's always the ... nope, moved away.  And downtown has so many awesome ... decrepid, derelict buildings so that's out.  But you could party down at the Flats ... where all the clubs have closed so, no.  Or you could ... just stay home.

I'm actually located more in-between Cleveland and Akron.  As I spent more of my time up North, I consider myself more a Clevelander than an Akronite or whatever the hell it is those rubes call themselves (anything south of Akron is effectively West Virginia and Akron is just south enough).  But that does explain the drinking.  I'm stuck, you see, between two major Poles of Suck.  The forces are nigh unimaginable and we need any respite - no matter how brief - we can find.

I suppose that explains why you're here, anyway.

Yeah, that line was crafted to inspire witty response.  Sometimes I do care about the fun of those I post with.

Visit the Rose Garden in Boise's Julia Davis Park, if you go in the spring or summer.  There's a veranda in middle ot it all, and the perfume of the flowers mixes in there when there's a slight breeze and it just smells just heavenly.  Granted, you have to love roses...
