Pretty sure there's an existing funny picture thread somewhere, but I couldn't find it quickly enough. And as a proud American, I'm for instant gratification.  So instead of looking harder, I made a new one.

And so, without further ado...

Most mammals and birds are sentient on some level or another. Crows, most apes, octopi, dolphins, parrots, and a few other animals are almost certainly sapient, as well.

Interesting-Just to clarify, by sentient I mean the traditional definition of having self-awareness.
#86

Ragnar_Lodbrok

Apr 18, 2013 19:42:19
Sentient: Most mammals and birds are quite clearly aware of themselves being individuals and seperate from the surrounding environment.
Sapient is a much weirder term in its common usage. The definition is fuzzy, and can best be described as more than sentient. Crows, parrots, octopi, elephants, and the other species I've mentioned all display complex problem solving skills and, in cases other than octopi, which are highly solitary, complex communication abilities and emotions. For example, crows and octopi hold grudges, elephants grieve, dolphins are sociopathic bastards, and so on.

Have you ever heard of the "One Drop Rule," from the Antebellum South (obviously, it's lasted much longer, but that isn't the point)? So long as you have a single black person in your ancestry, you count as black, no matter what you look like. (Probably somewhat oversimplified, but I don't really care.)

It's not just blacks in the Antebellum south, it's ethnic and racial identity as a whole.

For example, the Supreme Court recently heard oral arguments in a case involving a Native American man.  By blood he's only 6/256 Indian.  But for the relevant laws he still counted as an Indian.  Why?  Because his tribe said "yep"1.

Another example: St. Patty's day, the day when there are more Irish people living in America then there are in Ireland.
________
1This was relevant to the case because of laws enacted in the 70s or 80s (I think.  Not solid on the years) to prevent states from commiting virtual genocide on Native Americans through adoption.  IIRC, at the time some states were forcibly adopting out as many as 1/6 of indian babies to white families.

Ah, the good ol' days.  Where the government forcible sterilized poor black women without their knowledge or consent, told Indian mothers their babies died in child birth so they could adopt out them out and depopulte the native tribes, and gay men in civil service hid their orientation because they could be barred from civil service for it2.
2On account of them being gay meant they could be blackmailed3.
3Yes, this requires circular thinking.

Because if everyone is one racial identity, then the theory clearly needs work.

To disprove a proposed theory of racial identity?

How do you "disprove a proposed theory of racial identity" by asking that question?

Because if everyone is one racial identity, then the theory clearly needs work.

But everyone isn't one racial identity.
And even if they were, some wouldn't admit it.
*shrug*
Carry on.

At least the second sentence is true. ;)

Racist! What you got against blacks, bro? I mean, I know that Delaware was a slave state & all, but dood... Ya gotta get it go; it's been almost 150 years.

Does The Rock count as black? He always looked more tan white dood to me.

So, like, aren't we all black then?

Does that bother you?

No. Why would you ask that?

Why would you?

To disprove a proposed theory of racial identity?

We're all Terran-born humans, no? Seems good enough to me.
