I just had an idea for a nice forum game I thought would be fun. I'll propose a pair of characters with a nice combo, synergy or that I otherwise consider cool to pair up together. Someone else is challenged to come up with another combo to defeat the two which will be challenged again and so on.
The challenger will always be considered winning regardless of character level and actual efficiency of the combo though I promise you rewards in the afterlife for putting a bit of effort into the challenge.
I'll open up with a pair to further demonstrate the principle:

1
The good Countess Kathleen OShea is sitting in the study pondering how to deal with last season's bad harvest. Unbeknownst to her a pair of evil mercenaries sneak up to the walls of Glenhold Manor. They are a pair of warlords one of strong personality, the other a strategic genius. However both are bad at sneaking and soon have to fight their way through the Countess' guards, confident to heal each other up enough to last through the lot of them.

2
The sound of fighting reaches the small chapel where Thog the Barbarian was seeking a prophecy from Thalia the Divine Oracle. They both rush out into the yard as the two mercenaries overwhelm the last of the gate's guards. Without hesitation, they jump into battle.
Thalia pretty much grants Thog a critical hit with an Execution Axe Rage Strike, one-hit-fragging one of the Warlords. The rest is a cakewalk to them.
After dealing with the thugs Thalia and Thog look around to make sure that the two didn't bring any reinforcements...

Can I kill Thog!?:D

That's the point of this little exercise. If you like think about the weaknesses of team Cleric-Barbarian and exploit that or just post another cool 2-character-team and describe how they cleverly vanquish the bold defenders of Glenhold Manor.

(I just hope someone will pop up to my rescue afterwards)

Well... bring it on. (However you don't *have* to counter your own suggestion, I just did it to have an example.)

Well.. numbers will kill any character. But that's cheesy, right? You might want to think about archers and traps with Thog and Thalia's adventure. They'll probably be less adept at dealing with long range opponents (especially if you throw in a couple of them with special situational powers that you lead them into using). They'll also (most likely) be less adept at dealing with traps (either having trouble disarming or getting past them).

I don't intend to write ab adventure here. The point is for other people to come up with PC pairs they consider cool and describe how they would defeat the previously introduced pair without the need to deliver hard numbers on whether it's actually feasible...

So...lemme see if I understand you correctly.

I could say my brutal scoundrel eladrin rogue and tiefling dark-pact warlock would whoop your barbarian/cleric team...and I don't have to provide any numbers to support it? Wow...that's generous...

You *could* say that and you *could* provide a line or two of descriptive action and then we *could* consider your team the one to be challenged by the next poster who thinks he has a nice idea.

Edit: Really, I'd be fine if people say it's a stupid game and they can't be bothered to participate but I find it hard to accept it going down just because I miraculously seem to be unable to deliver the idea halfway clear...

No need for snarkiness...it's just rare to see such things around here that don't require number-crunching and Definitive ProofTM of "superiority". It's actually refreshing to see.

The Eladrin has sneaked up Thalia and put a giant hole in her back, while the horned lass reduced Thog to dust. But the duo didn't have time to celebrate their victory, as they heard an incoming, loud "Oh no, you DON'T!"
Kyton, warforged warrior jumped in, swinging his flails like crazy. The Eladrin flew across the corridor and fell dead. Tiefling was more agile though. She jumped behind the construct's back and was about to shatter his will, when she suddenly felt intense pain. It was Tranchett, one of the Halfling crossbowmen hired by the Countess. His bolt has stricken true, which allowed Kyton to get a chance at Warlock-smashing.

(btw, I don't really know what does the Dark pact do, so I improvised ;)).

4. The halfling crossbowmen started talking to Kyton, who was feeling his head from the pain of the pyshic assualt. The halfling gasped for air as a narrow blackblade sprouted from his chest. Dark velvet blood pours on the ground as he collapses, revealing a tall, darkly clad man with black hulking armor. He smirks and gestures to the warforged, who looks up with a look of dismay. A shadowy wolf springs from the darkness and pounces on Kyton. Kyton is able to rip the wolf off and throw him against the wall, slaying him, but the sneaky gnoll who emerged from the other side of the room was able to wound the warforged with an arrow. Luckily Kyton broke the Gnolls back with a strong blow from the flail. However, his luck has ran out as a shadowy serpent from the chanting blackguards mouth reared up and swallowed Kyton whole. The assassin looks at his slain companion with disdain, and walks away after cloaking himself once again, to prey on his next victim.

5. The local dwarven druid Tharvane and her good friend Sunnydale Tracktracker were on their way to answer the countess' summons. Tharvane already had a clear idea about what the meeting were to be about and prepared herself to tell her for a thousandth time that she were neither able nor willing to do anything about the harvest. Sunnydale allowed Tharvane to travel on the back of her bear companion Boris so she could have a rest while wondering when those humans would ever acknowledge that bad times are part of the circle of life.
Suddenly, Boris stopped. Tharvane was still in thought but Sunnydale reacted instinctively as the dark figure jumped them from the woods. As the halfling ducked into cover, the Blackguard turned unto the druid but within a blink she transformed into an eagle and took flight to the higher branches of the forest they were traversing. Now the fiend was between the bear and the halfling and the two were an experienced hunting team, trading blows with the servant of evil while Tharvane sat on the tree, raining lighting down the dark warrior until it finally succumbed.
"We'd better hurry. It appears the Countess actually has less trivial issues this time" said Tharvane, floating down onto Boris' back so they could journey onward to Glenhold Manor.
