I wanted to commenton how a "Flaming Gamer" wouldn't be the best buddy to have then, but I didn't want to seem like an ass.

In the past few months there have been 3 different instances of people pretending to be cancer patients in order to garner chartiable donations 'round here. Absolutely sickens me.
With something like this, someone whose username I do not recognize asking for donations, the first thing I do is check join date and post count (kinda like the first thing I do whenever someone sends me a link to a missing girl or something is a Snopes check). When I see someone with a post count of "1" and a join date of "yesterday" asking for "donations", especially when it cannot be prvoen to where they are going, my alarm bells go off.
This may actually be legit, but there is enough that seems wrong with it to keep me away.
Its obviously fake due to the ***hole-ish name.
Frankly, if you guys have a problem with this then why did you even bother to post? Go do something productive.

I was simply asking for help for my friend, a long time DM and really great guy. When you guys spend two days digging through rubble and ash with your bare hands trying to find the charred body of a pet you considered a best friend, one we used to get to lick our dice for luck and who used to sit in my lap during games, then come back and talk ****. Otherwise have the decency not to just assume I'm a scammer and start bad-mouthing me.

I never said it was, simply that there have been enough scams, and there is too little evidence to the contrary, for me personally to risk it. Had this call come from someone with a history here, someone who I'd reason to trust, I'd not have questioned it.

Sorry, but with so many scammers both on and offline, with you having no history here, and with little corroborating evidence, why should anyone assume you are not a scammer? Essentially you did the virtual equivalent of walking into a roomful of strangers and asking for money, an act that will warrant a healthy degree of skepticism from most reasonable people.
Yeah, I'm a "prick" you know why? I've been scammed on the internet before. Besides that, I'm tired of people thinking of only their problems. Yeah we have something in common that we play DnD but you come to a community that you do not know and ask for money. Thats something that scammers do, I'll go ahead and be honest. I WOULD donate if an OTTer was in some trouble. But I'll be damned if I give money away to a stranger thats brazen enough to come around and leech on his first post. So yeah, you know what? But a phone number is not inherently dangerous. They wouldn't post them in the phonebook if they were. A phone number in combination with something that gives people a reason to come and bother you, that might be dangerous. But in such a case, the real danger is giving people a reason to go and bother you more so then giving them a means

This reminded me of a service called TrapCall you should all check it out if you're on an american carrier.

But I do, see the point of casting doubt. That is a little suspect, popping up into a new forum and asking for money. But its also a little foolish dropping your own docs. Outside of people you trust, that can really be put to bad use. It's driven a number of YouTube users I used to know and subscribe to (and a few I don't) off the internet.
