Hello everybody,

This is random but.. does anyone know where Gary Gygax is buried? I went looking at "findagrave.com" and generally around google, but I couldn't turn up any information. I assume he's buried somewhere in Lake Geneva, but does anyone have more specific information?

Many thanks and I hope this question doesn't seem too odd! ^_^ I knew some people who used to visit H.P. Lovecraft's grave in Providence, Rhode Island.

Well, they had visitation and funeral service at the Haase Derrick Lockwood Funeral Home in Lake Geneva. He was cremated so...no one really knows if the loved ones have his ashes or not.

They are however looking at a statue to him in the Park? There is some sort of meeting with the City Council to achieve that (September 1-2). Probably a statue of him leaning on a giant D20 or something.

I think it would be very romantic (in the classic sense of the word) to visit Gygax's grave... and maybe leave something there for him (like the attached article). I hope they at least put his ashes in a family plot or something?

I have some graves of famous people I'd like to visit personally. If there was a memorial to Gygax, I'd visit it. I also want to visit the graves of Stephen Decatur Jr, Andrew Jackson, George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin. I'd also like to go to England and visit the graves of Benedict Arnold and Banastre Tarleton (although the whereabouts of Ban's grave is currently unknown, IIRC).

Find-A-Grave is an awesome site for doing this virtually, and it's a great option for people who can't afford burial plots for loved ones (they list pets, too).

This is why my corpse will be burnt to oblivion and my ashes tossed into the most inhospitable place I can get someone to take them to.  When I'm dead, I finally get to rest.  I'm finally free of all of those annoyances some refer to as human beings.  Leave me the **** alone, ya know?

I'm pretty sure they won't be bothering you.

I want as many organs as possible salvaged, the rest to go to science, and anything left over used as fertilizer.  Should there be anyone alive who wishes to remember me, a tree should be planted a plaque placed at its base.

Under no condition should I be interred in a concrete vault or inpenetrable casket.  I should not be burned unless I am being cooked for meat.  I intend to be an unproductive leech for the rest of my life, and the only way I can justify that is by giving back in death.

Did you ever hear about the 'natural' burial places they've got somewhere?  They just toss you in the ground and let you decay normally.  Eventually the ground collapses a bit and they even (IIRC) leave the small depressions left when it does.  It's sort of a park set up.  No markers, no gigantic concrete, angel-laden structures, just an RFID tag or some such buried with you so that if anyone wants to find your plot they can.  Kind of cool, IMO.

"If I die, don't bury me in your pitiful little cemetery. Burn me and cast my ashes to a strong eastern wind." - Lancelot, King Arthur

thats what id want done. build a memorial, plant a tree, whatever. as long as im cremated and my ashes scattered in an eastern wind.

When I finally croak (which assumes my lichdom experiments don't work), I want to be stuck in the ground sans coffin on my land in Maine so the forest can use my body. The house should be put to use as a shelter for abused children. Put up a memorial if you wish, but honor this one request: never refuse a stray. Of both humans and animals, the dearest friends I ever had started off as ones that showed up at my doorstep in desperate need.

I'm guessing that by the time I finally die, they'd have found a way to transfer consciousness from a body to a machine.  I'll trade 100 years of machine slavery in the machine army for immortality with the mediocre machine rights the government is willing to give me.

Me, I don't know. To quote the insane tyrant Goge Vandire from 40k:

"I don't have time to die... I'm too busy!"

Bah.  Without continuity of consciousness it won't matter.  There will be a robot somewhere with your memories, but you'll still be dead and buried.  Or burned for robot fuel.

Now see. I always wanted to be interred in a private mausoleum. A grand one too. Not just a concrete building with bars for a door and stone sarcaphagus but one made of marble and granite with English Oak doors and stained glass windows that would bathe my sarcophagus in a myriad of colors on a sunny day.

Make it a true monument to my greatness.
