| #2calronmoonflowerJul 16, 2011 2:51:48 | Wasn't this posted already? Hard to say without a link, I know that this type of thing has happened before, so this might be a new instance of the same behavior. |
| #3jetshieldJul 16, 2011 7:16:14 | Pretty sure this isn't the same story. I'd be willing to bet this kind of thing happens at least once a week, if not more often, during the summer months. That's too bad really. A lemonade stand is basically just a way for kids to let people know there's something they want, and they're willing to endure heat and boredom and disappointment in order to have the chance to get it. People buy lemonade from kids more to help them out and reward them for working for what they want, than because they really want the lemonade, I'd say. |
| #4Cpt_MichaJul 16, 2011 7:30:59 | Wow. Really? Just... Wow. |

| #8grehnheweJul 16, 2011 10:56:47 | I for one am glad I am being protected from these unliscensed, hooligan entrepeneurs. (Seriously, a good neighborhood cop would buy a cup of lemonade and wish the little kids luck.) |
| #9KlirshonJul 16, 2011 12:50:00 | After reading the previous post, is it improper to have one's database immediately bring up Pedobear? As for the lemonade stand: |
| #10MaxpersonJul 16, 2011 14:01:13 | Every time I've read a story like this, it takes place in the South... Oregon did it, too. |

| #12toastedamphibianJul 17, 2011 2:21:39 | No permit, no business. Pretty clear. Unless the goal is to teach little girls the whole 'the law only applies to you if your not cute enough' at the earliest time possible. |
| #13iqwinnJul 17, 2011 4:45:11 | Wow. +1 |

Unless the goal is to teach little girls the whole 'the law only applies to you if your not cute enough' at the earliest time possible. So instead they learn if you try to earn what you want, the government will throw up insurmountable obstacles and demand that you pay them their cut or they will crush your dreams under their iron boot. Well that's the real world alright. |
| #15pigknightJul 17, 2011 13:58:35 | I see where this is going... |

Unless the goal is to teach little girls the whole 'the law only applies to you if your not cute enough' at the earliest time possible. Agreed. In most places a lemonade stand is illegal without a business permit. In many places however law enforcement will turn a blind eye to it since it isn't that serious of a crime and that they're just kids. This reminds me of a somewhat recent story though. It happened during a golf tournament near the course. It was a big tournament. So big that tons of people bought up space within the community to set up tents to sell goods and whatnot to people going to the golf course. People even getting permits to let people park on their lawns for a fee. Within all these people obeying the law some girls decided to put up a lemonade stand without a business license. A license that everyone else in their community had to buy to do the exact same thing. They got shut down. IIRC in that case the law enforcement had said that normally they shouldn't have bothered with shutting down the stand but because of the event they were forced to since not doing so they'd be telling everyone that they didn't need a license to operate their businesses or something like that. |

Unless the goal is to teach little girls the whole 'the law only applies to you if your not cute enough' at the earliest time possible. This also raises the question, if the $300 fee was not an obstacle, would they be able to obtain the permit? Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the answer was no. |
| #19iqwinnJul 17, 2011 23:54:47 | This also reminds me of a story I read (a work of fiction) where a little girl is setting up a lemonade stand to earn money to buy a Barbie doll or somesuch. Not only do the police get involved, but also bureaucrats from the city, county, and state came in and plied so many fines against the girl and her family that it ruined them financially. Again, it was a work of fiction, but then again, maybe it's a look at things to come. |
| #20iqwinnJul 18, 2011 10:08:14 | Actually, that WAS promoting illegal behavior. And you got your arse booted for it, AGAIN. Maybe the ORCs should consider blocking any and all ISPs coming from Quebec. There can't be many Quebecois on this board. |
| #21zombie_babiesJul 18, 2011 12:40:53 | In the case dirty mentioned, they did go after the kids monetarily. They fined their parents anyway. So these other girls? They got off easy, man. |
| #22lokiareJul 18, 2011 12:59:57 | IP blocking doesn't work. To change my IP all I have to do is literally hit the reset button on my router... As far as lemonade stands go. I like the episode of "The Boon docks" where the girl sets up the lemonade stand and gets screwed by the govt and the rich guy...My favorite part is when the rich guys goes on the media and says: "We had no knowledge that this establishment employed underage workers" |
| #23zombie_babiesJul 18, 2011 13:07:06 | Heh, that was a really good episode. ![]() |
| #24draco1119Jul 18, 2011 13:34:26 | Heh, that was a really good episode. My favorite is the MLK episode. |
| #25zombie_babiesJul 18, 2011 13:37:07 | Yeah, I think that's the best one. |
| #26bone_nagaJul 18, 2011 15:30:48 | The show overall is pretty hilarious. And it's sad how closely the episodes relate to real life. Some, even though they look like exaggerated parodies, match actual news stories and interviews almost exactly. Like the one about the teacher dropping the n-bomb. |
