#1 ADHadh Jun 12, 2008 12:20:42	Where should I start? Ok, maybe I should make myself clear: there are those R. A. Salvatore* books with Drizzt in and some time ago they were translated, now available in nearby shops. The problem is the distributor shipped several series at once plus it was some time ago, so now I'm completely confused. I have no idea which is first and names like The legend of Drizzt vol. III or War of the Spider Queen vol. II don't help. If I wanted to know who the Nine Hells is Drizzt or which book is first, where should I start? *What is with those fantasy authors, every one has at least one letter between name and surname.
#2 nowiwantmydmg Jun 12, 2008 13:51:07	Personally I wouldn't, Salvatore is a very bad author. I would highly recommend The Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson fantasy wise however. To answer your question though, a believe the first book written is called the crystal shard.

Personally, I feel that Salvatore, as an author, does just fine. It all comes down to personal preference to writing style. Nobody's going to like everything ya know. Chronologically, go this route: The Dark Elf Trilogy The trilogy was a prequel to the very successful Icewind Dale Trilogy. Oddly enough, Drizzt Do'Urden was originally written as a supporting character to Wulfgar in the Icewind Dale Series. However, the author soon realized how popular the character was, and he became the main character in subsequent novels. Homeland (1990) — Homeland follows the story of Drizzt from around the time and circumstances of his birth and his upbringing amongst the drow (dark elves). The Fires of Narbondel (1996) - A short story in the Realms of the Underdark anthology. Zaknafein is the main character, but a young Drizzt has a supporting role. Exile (1990) — Exile tells the story of Drizzt outside of the drow cities, trying to survive in the open wilds of the Underdark. Sojourn (1991) — Sojourn is the story of Drizzt coming onto the surface of the world, and how he became a ranger and ultimately ended up at Icewind Dale. The Icewind Dale Trilogy The Crystal Shard (1988) — This book tells the story of the battle between the Ten Towns (located in Icewind Dale) and Akar Kessel, a mage aided by the crystal shard Crenshinibon, a sentient and utterly evil magical relic. It also explains how Drizzt, Bruenor, Catti-brie, and Regis met Wulfgar. Streams of Silver (1989) — Tells the story of the journey that Drizzt, Bruenor, Regis, and Wulfgar set upon to search for Mithral Hall, Bruenor's boyhood home. Where should I start?

Ok, maybe I should make myself clear: there are those R. A. Salvatore* books with Drizzt in and some time ago they were translated, now available in nearby shops. Personally I wouldn't, Salvatore is a very bad author. I would highly recommend The Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson fantasy wise however.

To answer your question though, a believe the first book written is called the crystal shard.

The first book that Drizzt appeared in was The Crystal Shard however if you want to start from the beginning then The Dark Elf Trilogy is where you want to start and the first book in that series is Homeland.
