So, since Halloween is right around the corner I bummed my friends copy of Ghostbusters the videogame from a friend of mine.
I beat it once while at his place, but sadly as I don't have Xbox live naturally I didn't get my epeen points.. I mean gamer points from it.
I couldn't care less about the gamer points themselves but I enjoy achievements. So I fired it up and went after some ghosts. I'm around two hours in (I think) and I'm having a blast. Using the Proton pack is exactly what you would think it should be. And trapping ghosts is very much like you would think it is.
The sound effects are straight out of the movies and so is the cast, dialogue and voice acting. It really is Ghostbusters 3 or what Ghostbusters 3 would have been. It's every kid of my generations dream come to life. You are a ghostbuster well and truly.
I just wish I could get to drive the Ecto 1. Otherwise? Yeah you go to the museum, you fight against the Stay Puft Marshmellow man, (how he comes back is quite well explained) you enter the fourth.. (or was it fifth?) dimension multiple times.
What's funny is that I've beaten this game once already (I didn't start the game though) and there are moments that I have jumped in shock. (I have an awesome sound system so that might help) Which is something that supposed Horror and scary games *staring at you Resident Evil 5!* haven't managed to pull off. The game's atmosphere is perfect, it has solid controls and excellent voice acting. Even if Bill Murray just seems a little stale. (But then he's been that way for a long time now.)
Pete Venkman was the only disappointment that I had with the game (well, that and playing the PS2 version, the one with the more stylized graphics, but that's beside the point).
In the movies, that character is useful. Ray's the heart of the team, Egon's the mind of the team, and Pete had his own uses (be charismatic to the mayor, uncover useful connections in the investigation by accident by being close to the girl).
But I just didn't see it here. He was cynical and sarcastic, but otherwise just served as an extra proton thrower.
Otherwise, you're entirely correct in saying that this is basically Ghostbusters: the movie 3. It followed a pseudo-scientific plot that flowed logically from conclusion to conclusion that really drew me in. The sound effects and feel (as much as the stylized version allows, anyway) as well as the transitions from gameplay to cinematic make it feel as much like a story you're reading as a game you're playing.
You know just about everyone feels that way about Pete. Maybe that's what he was missing from the movies and maybe that's what made him feel a little stale to me.
From these reviews, sound like gold to me. I remember my Pa getting me to watch Ghostbuster when I was a kid, I loved the movie ever since. I was psyched when I heard about a game, based around the same characters and even voiced by the original cast, so I'm waiting impatiently for my ol' B-Day to come around so I can put in a request.

Haven't got around to buying/playing the new Ghostbusters game yet. Maybe I will next year, for now I'm having a blast with Brütal Legend.
I have the game, but haven't played it yet. I got it for my husband, and intended to play it with him, but unfortunately it doesn't have offline co-op, which disappoints me greatly.
