| #1seventhsolitudeApr 29, 2010 9:02:39 | Glen Beck is a a lunatic! There, I feel much better now. |
| #2pluisjenApr 29, 2010 9:08:50 | I can only see one valid response to this... Who? |
| #3seventhsolitudeApr 29, 2010 9:12:22 | This is Glen Beck: www.glennbeck.com/ He is basically a conservative talk show host who promotes weird conspiracy theories about progressives and the Obama administration. |

| #5pluisjenApr 29, 2010 9:39:33 | That site... it almost drowns you in advertising. Is there any part of his being this guy hasn't sold to a company? |
| #6uxeazApr 29, 2010 9:39:56 | I like Glen Beck. Some of his stuffs out there but alot is tongue in cheek and hes dang funny, makes Me laugh. Besides he doesnt even take him self to seriously. |
| #7boraxeApr 29, 2010 9:46:58 | I like Glen Beck. Some of his stuffs out there but alot is tongue in cheek and hes dang funny, makes Me laugh. Besides he doesnt even take him self to seriously. As comforting as it would be to know Beck is joking, this is not the case. He takes himself and his paranoid ramblings very seriously and firmly believes every word he says, even the stuff that contradicts the other stuff. |
| #8Cpt_MichaApr 29, 2010 9:49:48 | I wish he were joking. But he's not. What's even worse is that his fervent delusions are shared by others. |
| #9boraxeApr 29, 2010 9:50:53 | That site... it almost drowns you in advertising. Nope. He is a shameless corporate shill. He routinely spends time on his show fear-mongering about the collapsing US economy and telling his viewers the only safe haven is to buy gold. He is also a paid spokesperson for gold selling companies who then advertise on his show. What amazes me is that his viewers are so dense they don't even realize how callously they are being manipulated. ![]() |
| #10seventhsolitudeApr 29, 2010 9:55:02 | I like Glen Beck. Some of his stuffs out there but alot is tongue in cheek and hes dang funny, makes Me laugh. Besides he doesnt even take him self to seriously. He may make jokes, but he takes his ideas seriously. The guy creates elaborate diagrams of a progressive conspiracy that began back in the early 1900s. There is just something very clearly wrong with the guy. He has one of those cult leader personalities that sends shivers up the spines of rational people, but is attractive and comforting to others. |

| #12uxeazApr 29, 2010 10:57:55 | I dont buy all of his conspiracy theries but thats a small part of what his show is about. His new Shtick is about Faith Hope and Charity, That and small government, and man I know I need more of those. as for the "shamless corporate shill" He admits its shamless plugging, long live capatilism I say. Sides if you dont like him dont listen. |
| #13seventhsolitudeApr 29, 2010 11:14:13 | But the chalk board conspiracy theories are the core of his show. Spreading lies about progressives is the meat and potatoes of his program. If he were just about faith, hope and charity, and small government few would care. He would just be a basic conservative. But he isn't. He is about falsehood, fear, and greed. |
| #14boraxeApr 29, 2010 11:20:26 | I dont buy all of his conspiracy theries but thats a small part of what his show is about. His new Shtick is about Faith Hope and Charity, That and small government, and man I know I need more of those. And why do you need a paranoid, hateful dick like Beck to get it? Faith, hope and charity come from within, and changes to government are achieved through the democratic process, something which Beck and his ilk respect only when serves their interests. as for the "shamless corporate shill" He admits its shamless plugging, Admitting one is a scumbag doesn't make one any less so, it justs makes the poor saps who buy into it that much more gullible. The best shysters are the ones who tell you up front they're conning you but still get away with it. long live capatilism I say. To hell with capitalism. An enlightened society should value people over profits. The "long live capitalism" BS rhetoric is what lead to Enron, Madoff, Goldman-Sachs and the Wall Street collapse. Sides if you dont like him dont listen. That is absolutley terrible advice. One should not simply ignore those people or opinions with which they disagree. Closing one's ears - and mind - to opposing opinions is the basis of ignorance. |
| #15boraxeApr 29, 2010 11:41:50 | Nothing illustrates Glenn Beck's commitment to faith, hope and charity like his own words, such as when he said "When I see a 9/11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh shut up' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining." Or perhaps his stance is better summed up by "The only [Hurricane Katrina victims] we're seeing on television are the scumbags." Or maybe it was "I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today." Yup, this is a guy who is all about "faith, hope and charity". |

| #18uxeazApr 29, 2010 12:05:42 | So Borax you dont like capatalism, name a better system. |
| #19zombie_babiesApr 29, 2010 12:08:09 | Ahem:The term "progressive" is today often used in place of "liberal". Check it here. There are, of course, differences. The main point to consider here, though, is seen in the line I quoted. Today, 'progressive' is often used in place of 'liberal'. |
| #20boj0Apr 29, 2010 12:18:18 | Woah, guys aren't we getting pretty close to that whole "no politics" rule? |
| #21boraxeApr 29, 2010 12:20:16 | So Borax you dont like capatalism, name a better system. To delve any further along that tangent would drag this thread over the line into political discussion and would likely get it closed. Suffice to say I would be hard-pressed to name a worse system. |
| #22zombie_babiesApr 29, 2010 12:20:51 | Woah, guys aren't we getting pretty close to that whole "no politics" rule? Not me. I was jus' makin' a li'l joke an' then defenderatin' it. Dat be all, mon. ![]() |
| #23uxeazApr 29, 2010 12:23:54 | Ok Ill just say ive lived under socialism and I know I dont like it. I appreciate America and what it stands for, but to each their own. Ill head back to dnd and wish you all lots of Nat 20's. |

| #25seventhsolitudeApr 29, 2010 15:17:52 | 'Progressive' - The label Liberals gave themselves so they can feel superior to Conservatives ... "Independent" is just a label Republicans invented so they could pretend they aren't Republicans. |
| #26seventhsolitudeApr 29, 2010 15:20:38 | So Borax you dont like capatalism, name a better system. capitalism is a good system. But no system is perfect. We tried lazzes faire capitalism before (which is basically absolute capitalism) and it failed, miserably. A mixed economy, like the one we've had for almost 100 years, is the best. Without some basic regulations and programs that respond to the realistic limits of the system, we'd be in much worse shape. Nothing is more dangerous than ideological purity. And that is what Beck's brand of conservatism is. |
| #27zombie_babiesApr 29, 2010 15:47:11 | "Independent" is just a label Republicans invented so they could pretend they aren't Republicans. The ;) and meant that was said largely in jest. I ain't choosin' any sides about anythin' here. That's a no-no. |
| #28EscherEnigmaApr 29, 2010 15:52:34 | His new Shtick is about Faith Hope and Charity, That and small government, and man I know I need more of those. Didn't he tell everyone that if their bible contained the words "social justice", that they should leave their church immediately? Just a month ago? |
| #29LFKApr 29, 2010 19:02:16 | things I find hilarious in a depressing way: Beck Talks: Hatin' Aint Easy. The name alone is awesomely sad, but also the entire thing has a poster of Ben Franklin in the background with the word Charity in giant letters. This confuses me. Now, as a Canadian I have a lot of respect for Ben Franklin. The man knew his stuff. But charity? Yeah, that wasn't exactly on Ben's plate. |
| #30EscefApr 29, 2010 21:31:01 | I remember getting out of the office in Iraq sometime between midnight and 1 A.M., swinging through the dining facility for something to eat, and seeing this jackenape on. He's a rampant fearmonger and I despise him. |
| #31MalcadonApr 29, 2010 23:08:09 | (there are stagecoach rules about religion and politics on these forums, but thus far, it a mature debate - if the powers-that-be would lock this thread regardless, I would have nothing but scorn and contempt) Glen Beck is seen as a joke because he is the vary definition of a demagogue (its hard to point out a disagreement with someone who truns any disagreement - no matter how small - into a personal attack, and a potental conspiracy aginst their character). He has views, but he express them in such a convoluted way, it hard to tell if he is serious or just a farce! I used to watch the show for the comedic-value, but I had to stop after bad headaches from all the eye-rolling! To be fair, GB is a self-proclaimed "Liberal-conservative", and he is more-or-less right about the title. The fact that the right-wing political party are "conservatives" is a myth. In truth, most of the right-wing policies are vary "liberal" in their ideology - small government, gun-rights, free-market, anti-cap-and-trade, and so on. The only "conservative" policies they preach are fiscal conservatism (lower taxes, and less government spending), and social conservatism (the believe that the government has a right to enforce moral behavior). At one time, the term "conservative" meant to be content with the status quo - to see the world being fine how it is. The modern use of "conservative" was used back in the 70's and 80's to promote the idea of going back "to a simpler time" (ideally the 50's, but the economic growth and solubility of that time was largely do to a good number of organized labor - a concept loathed by the right-wing, because it is viewed as "Marxism" and anti-free-market). The opposite of a (classical) conservative is a "progressive", and that is were GB is likely coming from (in an inept fashion). He is also known for being outspoken against social justice. The irony of this, is that the Constitution was built an a foundation of social justice! My only real complaint is how the Fox News Network is degrading the quality of serious journalism. Now things are about "liberal media" or "conservative media". To me, what media should be about is professionalism, and any media with a bias is a strawman news media to me! Fox throws out a tag that is a big lie, and they justify their hack journalism with their large viewership (somehow, the more people who watches a show, makes them more right) MSNBC seems to be a shameless counter-point to Fox. And even CNN is going chaotic-political! I'm even noticing the professional news outlets who are calling themselves "liberal" or "conservative". With the death of the news paper, and people's reliance on cable and internet sources, I fear that things are going to get a lot worse! The real joke, is that a comedian on a show that makes fun of the news, is the the only voice of reason in the news media! (guess which show that is?) |
| #32CateranEnforcer77Apr 29, 2010 23:44:25 | His new Shtick is about Faith Hope and Charity, That and small government, and man I know I need more of those. Something like that. I remember seeing that, though it may have been if your preachers started talking about it. Hmmm. EDIT: quick goggle search says: abcnews.go.com/WN/glenn-beck-social-just... |
| #33LFKApr 30, 2010 0:31:58 | To be fair, GB is a self-proclaimed "Liberal-conservative", and he is more-or-less right about the title. Just a point of correction, he self-proclaims to be a Libertarian-Conservative. Of course he doesn't believe that gays should self-govern themselves into privileges of marriage or taxation laws, so it really just boils down to "I should be allowed to do what I want, but people who aren't like me shouldn't be allowed to do what they want." He also missed the basis of pragmatic libertarianism (and virtually every idealist ideology/economy/politic ever) which is "don't be a douche." |
| #34Robin_HoodlumApr 30, 2010 5:49:47 | Glen Beck is 100 times more intelligent than your average Progressive... People don't like Glen because he tells the truth, and the truth hurts... |
| #35Cpt_MichaApr 30, 2010 7:25:52 | The truth? Really? You do realize this is the man that denies that global warming is happening, right? The same man that also pushes his Buy Gold Agenda, and amps up Fear in order to push his Gold Agenda right Also the same man, feels the Traditional Valuestm of America are being eroded. Also the same man that thinks Hands Off Capitalism is a good thing right? No my friend Glenn Beck and Tells the Truth don't belong in the same universe, let alone the same sentence. |
| #36NovacatApr 30, 2010 7:44:17 | I saw the subject line, and I thought to myself, "How could this thread possibly not be political?" I looked, and now I see that it actually is just political. Congratulations, folks: Ye hath been troll'd. |
