Feb 24, 2011 13:30:40 I can see the kids point. But, honestly, the same thing could have happened in a game against a player and a coaches job is to prepare the kids for in game situations. I'm sure the coach didn't intend to injure the kid.

Still, the kid seems like a whiner to me.

Did it seem to you like he was breathing heavily, mayhap in anger, right before he responded to the 'apology'? Maybe I'm hearin' things, I dunno. This coach's career is ovah, though. Way ovah.

Feb 24, 2011 14:30:11 ... okay, knocking the kid down... eh, I don't know enough about the sport to see if that was a plausible accident. But kicking him and then berating him as he's clearly bleeding and stunned? Yeah... if that happened in a real game, wouldn't a foul or something have been called? If nothing else, someone making sure the kid was actually all right before expecting him to continue playing?

Feb 24, 2011 14:38:26 The 'kick' shouldn't be called that, IMO. He barely touched the kid and awkwardly pulled it in an obvious attempt not to damage the kid. It seems like the real damage was accidental in nature - but an accident that happened because of a situation the coach purposefully initiated. What I mean is, it appears that the kid took a shoulder and an arm or hand to the face and that this is what did the damage. The coach deciding to go after him in a froth to make some sort of point is what allowed that accident to happen and he certainly didn't help anything after it did. But yeah, the kick wasn't a kick. The rest? All bad. So was the kick that wasn't a kick but not because it was a kick, if ya get my meanin'.

Probably. The coach didn't seem to undertand that he ed up. My favorite part is when he is asked, "So you know now what you did was over the line right?" His response:"Not really."
Yeah, that guy isn't going to be coaching anyone anytime soon.

See, I see it differently. He contradicted himself a couple of times. 'It was a mistake' and then 'I didn't do anything wrong' followed by 'I sincerely apologize'. The crying bit at the beginning, though, was him weeping over the impending loss of his job. Anyhoo, I'm pretty sure he knows he ****ed up but the fact that the kid took it to the police and hired a lawyer forced him to hire representation which means he'll never, ever be able to say he ****ed up. When the courts get involved, there's no middle. It's right or wrong the end. And he simply can't (literally) afford to admit he was wrong. Especially with the claim of injury thrown in the mix.

If they had suspended him for a few days, forced him to attend some kind of anger management course, sat down with the kid and have the athletic director reprimand him in some manner, I think it would have been a story that would have had difficulty even making it to the school's paper.

Of course we are forgetting that there was a third person involved in the hitting the fan. That is the person with the video camera.

Feb 24, 2011 15:48:07 Yep, shoulda handled it in-house when they had the chance. As for the third party, I imagine it's possible that they video their practices as a practice in order to use the film as an instructional tool. I may be wrong about that, though.
