| #1axcalibarJul 07, 2008 10:59:11 | I've put my game on hiatus. Seems I can't bring myself to come off it. As much as I'd love to complete my current campaign, I'm just not feeling the motivation to pick it up again. I figure I'm stuck until I figure out what exactly is keeping me from it. I entreat the great old ones to share some of their experiences with falling out of gaming. What was the cause? How long did it last? What brought you back? |

D&D turns to Shadowrun which turns to All Flesh Must be Eaten which turns to Exalted which turns to Mutants & Masterminds which turns to Vampire which turns to D&D. The guy who has been DMing for the group I am in right now tells me he has been DMing for 3 years and he just wants to be a player. As soon as his current campaign ends it'll be my turn to bat and I'll be starting up an Oriental D&D game (with significant house rules to give it a real nice Kung-Fu feel.) When I was in Halifax I was part of a great World of Darkness Game. There came a point where the DM said "I need to take a couple of weeks off" For two weeks I ran a game where every one was a Soldier in Iraq looking for WMDs that turned out to be Zombies. Step Back and ask someone to run something that is 180 of what you have been doing up till now. Use a different system if one is available to your group. Or dust of some old classic board games like Settlers, Illuminati, Talisman. Just do some stuff that stops you thinking about your game eventually you'll get your groove back. |

As much as I'd love to complete my current campaign, I'm just not feeling the motivation to pick it up again. I figure I'm stuck until I figure out what exactly is keeping me from it. In the 80s I was doing a lot of military training and had very little time to game. Eventually, I did find some other gamers (as well as converting a few non-gamers) and we gamed when we could. That ended up being about 6 games per year. I also stopped gaming for a few months when an affair of the heart went South and I packed a rucksack and headed out on the Greyhound bus with $20 in my pocket. I have taken time off from time-to-time to take classes or build my computer skills when I feel I am lagging. How long did it last? Current non-game terms last no longer than a few weeks these days. What brought you back? Being born to DM. ![]() ***** |
