I have no idea. What I do know is that resetting a profile to open will allow me to send the invite. I imagine it's just a matter of accepting the invite and then resetting to private to get things back to where ya want 'em.
I presume I have disengaged all the external networking, security protocol, parameters. Attempted to add ZB as a friend though I am uncertain if that is the same as a friend request (however that was the only option related to friendship establishment).

That is much appreciated. However I do not feel required to reestablish the privacy settings as I do not have anything worth hiding here. I am certainly not going to post any classified information pertaining to the machine society (especially since we have government agents on the forums).

Yes, making someone your friend does bypass the privacy settings and allow you to invite them. Why you can invite them to be a friend but not invite them to a group with privacy settings on, I have no idea.
Yeah, I have a group page and what B_N stated is true. Conversely if you turn off the privacy setting you can invite anyone, but anyone can join without an invite.

We haven't had this happen yet but as we've just increased membership quite a bit, I have to suspect it's possible. I'm going to guess that any outside mod activity (group owner is naga, calron and myself are group mods) discovered in the private group will be met with ... some irritation. Obviously there's no way to know who did what in that sort of situation, so that means that assumptions will rule because the plan will be to be safe about the group - feelings be damned. What I suspect would happen is that those suspected of reporting things like that to outside mods will be booted. Key word: suspected. I don't think this'll be a real worry, but it's something to keep in mind. I also don't wanna speak for naga, but I'm pretty sure he'd feel the same about it.
And to those who may be concerned about a group that's specifically built to avoid the CoC constraints of the Tavern, well, don't be. I've spoken with a VCL about this and it's perfectly ok since the group is private. Since not everyone can see it and only those who are asked to join and have a wish to do so can, it's a matter of those discussing these things being people who want to and can behave appropriately. And it won't be something anyone that doesn't want to see can see. Oh yeah, said VCL even went so far as to state he'd actually like to join the group but has not because he'd hate to be seen as an 'official' presence or as though he were really there to monitor us. So yeah, it's all good, it's all legit. Please do not take that for granted, however, and abuse the rules the group has in place. While we can get away with stuff there we can't here, the group has its own rules for a reason and those must be followed as best as possible.

I don't see the problem. Just because he's got a VCL tag, doesn't mean he's not a person. It must be annoying to have to restrict comments on certain subjects because you have to avoid giving the impression that you might be stating an "official" position.

I honestly don't know. He's actually talked about it here before but I don't want to attach a name in case I misstated anything he may have said. I don't think I did, but I like the guy and don't wanna put words in his mouth accidentally, ya know?
As an interesting aside, it congratulates me every time I invite one of you ****ers. Half the time I'm like 'why the hell are you congratulating me? if you understood what it was I just did, you'd be calling me a foo!'.

I tried to friend ZB, it didn't work. The forums hate me. All I can see when posting, for example, is just the HTML screen, not the one with all the options.

It might be something they tweaked with the forums. When the group was first started I was able to send friend invites to bypass privacy settings. With yours the option shows up to invite you as a friend as well as the option to invite you to the group, but neither one works. All clicking either one does is reload the page. Since it worked before but doesn't anymore, and it isn't isolated to your computer/OS, I'm going to say this is a forum issue. I'm sure that doesn't surprise anyone here.
I think I'll keep my account visible to all for a while in order to avoid this in the future. I think we've got most of the OTTers in but some may not be yet. I'll just keep my settings this way so I can be friend req'd easier.
