First off, Happy New Year to all that will be celebrating it at midnight (your time). If you're not, off. (kidding, of course) :P Second, if you are, please do so safely. Find a couch to crash on or call a cab. It's a much better choice than taking a big risk.

Now for the thread:

If you were your D&D character, what beverage would you ring in the new year with? Feel free to list a couple characters along with a brief personality description and their beverage of choice. It could be real, it could be made up. Who cares? ;) Also - if you feel like it - let us know what you'll be having for the event yourself. So let's hear it ya' drunkards. I can call ya' that cuz ya'all hang out in a Tavern. And ... uhh ... cuz I'm one, too! :D

Harvey Donais, Human Fighter: Hard liquor. When he drinks, he drinks.

Beral Tuthana, Tiefling Swordmage: Light ale. He'd rather not make a fool of himself.

Oh, and happy 2009! :D

Verrenal, Eladrin Staffizie that's terrified of and refuses to engage in melee combat: Whatever someone else is buyin'. Rituals are expensive and it's just easier that way. ;)

Ba'Shen "Bash" McDougal, Half-Orc Bard/Seeker of the Song that's a serial killer of the elderly and people that are not his father that bang his mom: Ale. Simple tastes for simple minds. :D :P He'd probably go for some sort of expensive champagne for the New Year, though. And, if his pal Blacksoul (they were pals cuz ol' Blacksoul only tried to kill him once) was around, they'd have a few shots of cheap whiskey. Cuz Blacksoul - while an incredibly competant Epic Wizzie - was a friggin' drunk.

My Green Starmetal Adept that I can't remember his name: Dead Baby. It was a hard alcohol mixed shot that would level people after a couple. He and his Dread Necro best bud would pound 'em back all evening in a corrupted temple of some good god that was turned into a bar/brothel. Occasionally a bit of "Moon Dust" was used, too. For a New Year celebration, you could count on the Dust making an appearance. ;)

Me: I'll be having some Warsteiner as a pace beverage, possibly a Mojito, a couple sake glasses of different sakes, maybe some Glenfiddich or Famous Grouse (doubtful cuz it would most likely finish the job too soon) and some Champagne from a favorite Ohio Winery. Good times. 'Till the mornin' ...

Landis Silverflame : Landis Silverflame was born in the Aegirean Empire on Talsidias. He was raised to be a body guard to a Mage family and wound up with an Alchemist named Lynnie as his charge. Landis has served the Alchemist well though the two are currently separated from each other, Landis in the mean time performs side jobs and mercenary assignments. He is a grim tough warrior very reminiscent of the old Aegirian Empire.

A throwback to it's glory days before the Cataclysm. Landis is a tall broad individual. Standing around six four and weighing around two hundred thirty pounds, he wears brass coated and plated banded heavy armor, has a large brass coated shield and a bastard sword with a dull gray colored blade with golden hand guard, and a red ribbon tied quite firmly to the pommel of his bastard sword which has his family heraldry upon it.

In battle Landis is seen as brutal, and cunning. Every bit of capable of unleashing a frightening amount of savagery, perhaps venting any anger that otherwise would never show upon his steel like features and eyes. He seems to hold a special hatred for Kobolds and Goblinoids though the Aegirean warrior will not say why.

His preferred drink is grain alcohol. Straight from the bottle or a really thick and rich Ale. He's been known to drink Dwarfs under the table when the mood strikes him. Let's just say the tavern owner in Winterhaven revoked his "free ale for life" status.

Tobit Azure, halfling wizard... Johnnie Walker blue label from a snifter.

But my favorite character I've played:

Amsak Ironmaw, half-orc bear warrior... honey schnapps, from a really big bottle.

John Masterson, Dungeon Delver extrordinaire, servant of Celestia and the Nine Hells, and bartender of the planes (seriously; that was a really screwed up campaign...): Glenfiddich Rare Collection 1937

Penumbra Darkblade (pseudonym), Shadar-kai swordmage, priestess of the Raven Queen, and estranged princess of a city-state in the Shadowfell: A bottle or four of Frambois lambic.

Pangeldenor will be crashing at the Lawsdweller Inn while downing his fair share of Candlewick porter, as he has always done since retiring from adventuring...

Oh yeah, in some areas you have to be very careful with liquids in really small glasses ;)

On topic:

Dima Teufelmann, an ambitious and rather egocentric Tiefling wizard: Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.

Argon Hellhammer will be doing the dwarf thing and downing a few ales at the Green Tankard, no doubt with his mate Cap'n Krull. Happy 2009 all!

Raelin Kazoth, fanatical cleric of Pelor with a Freudian-sized sword, downed some "holy" water.

[unpronounceable] "Quint" Argentlune, over-exuberant halfling rogue, being only sixteen, just bashed his brains out with a lemon wedge wrapped around a large gold brick. Y'know, to simulate the Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster.

Aryalaínn Féaryn, unstable eladrin alchemist-illusionist-swordmage, would likely go for some of the good stuff. Y'know, goblin thudrud, gutshaker, Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster, et cetera.

Facebreaker, Mr. Miyagi-style warforged drunken master, just chugged potions of inebriation.

My Eladrin wizard would definitely take some brandy. Definitely.

I, on the other hand, am a bourbon man. My favorite is the Manhattan: one part bourbon, two parts sweet vermouth, a dash of angostura bitters, and garnished with a cherry. It can be made with blended whisky or Tennessee sour mash whiskey, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Funny, that. Most of the bars around my area always ask, 'whiskey or bourbon?' since most people don't take it with the latter. Guess it's all about where you come from.

Human Fighter would take cormyrian rye whiskey or bourbon. If in a festive mood, halfling rum would do it.

Why in all of the nine Hells not? It's supposed to be a moderately bitter, yet sweet drink. Bourbon is the sweet whiskey. Unless they're using a blended whiskey. Which is actually likely. But still. It's like a vodka Martini. Wrong. Just wrong. You're going for the flavor synergies. Bah.

Like I said, its regional. I've taken a basic mixology class (I have no intention of being a bartender, however, its for culinary reasons) and understand the basic premise of creating drinks, but never had to practice the Manhattan.

But why on earth would you not cater to your demographic? If people want vodka instead of gin in their martinis, you can bet I'm gonna learn how to make a good one... and any barkeep worth his money will learn both.

You make a very good point. A bartender has to be able to make the drinks his customers want, even if his customers have no taste in liquor. ;)

I personally don't particularly like martinis either way. They're just too astringent tasting for my palate. I think it has more to do with the dry vermouth than gin or vodka.

With Manhattans I really notice a difference between bourbon and Canadian whisky. I enjoy Canadian whisky for shooting or mixing with cola, but it just doesn't taste right in a Manhattan. Bourbon imparts just the right taste and feel to it, I think.

Idk, the juniper in gin makes me think I'm drinking pine sol (which isn't to say I won't indulge in high-end gin if its presented, lol).

I prefer the neutral taste of vodka for mixed drinks, and the sweetness of a spiced, silver (or occasionally, flavored) rum.

Terronus, human commoner, visited his computer (ok I had some friends over, too) on the New Years...
Caribou Lou

5 parts pineapple juice

Kiri "Pocketfox" Gamont: stuck in Anauroch (think, "Dune") during 30th of Nightal (December), so probably whatever they could rummage ala tequilla, agava cacti (desert-ish?). Necessity is the mother of invention.

Amygdalus (illithid): sun elf (high Int, less filling ;) ) Wzd grey matter smoothy, perhaps a twist of intellect devourer cortex, you know, just for color.

Ch'tturgah (necropolitan Wzd): sadly, probably nothing. No Con score = no buzz. The tolerance from Hell...
He did win a drinking contest once thanks to judicious Disguise Self (we needed $ quickly, subject was duped via party rogue & a Charm Person didn't hurt either).

Indrid Cold (1/2 orc Ftr/Brb/FrnzdBrsrkr): either alot of anything, or very little as another hit to the Will Save and an errant poke could = "party off"

Here's the tally for the holiday:

Varrenal: Nothing on the date, but the first game after found us at a fair hosted by Halflings. We were quite popular (after saving the day) and they bought us all sorts of drinks all night!

Me: Four or five Warsteiner, a bit of Mojito, half a bottle of champagne and about half a bottle (wine-sized) of sake - mostly Frost Maiden. Good times. :D

Revived for 2010!

As the year before, Celtic Avarell will have local ale, but only if it wasn't made with raspberries!
