Mar 17, 2011 9:45:27 I hate that "everyone's Irish" crap. If people want to join in the clebration I've no problem with that at all, but saying "everyone's Irish today!" is kind of insulting to actual Irish people, as if their nationality and heirtage is nothing more than an affectation.

But I don't usually put a huge stock in heritage/history, so I'm not as sensitive to it, I admit. I don't drink, so the alcohol isn't really the thing for me. To each their own!

One year, me and a bunch of friends got super drunk and watched boondock saints for St. Patrick's Day. That was a fun night. I think I woke up on the kitchen floor the next day.

You have an entire internet at your disposal. I'm sure you can find an irish themed movie.

As for drinks... Beer is the standard for Irish Day. Ale, probably.

Other than that... maybe grab an Irish whiskey, or... Well, the only "Irish" drink I know is Irish Coffee, which probably wasn't even invented by them (just put Baileys in your coffee instead of milk. I've also heard of it being done with whiskey, but I'm hesitant to try it).

Many bars will be selling cheap swill with green food coloring in it.

Bailey's is always a good choice, as is any good Irish whiskey (or, really, any Irish whiskey, I suppose ...).

Though you can just keep it with the green theme and have some green-colored cocktails (appletinis, etc).

I had no beer on the 17th. I had no whiskey. I did have corned beef and mashed taters, though. And if I head to the bar this evening I'll be sure to get a glass of Jameson's. I mean, I probably would anyway but whatever.

And St Patty's day is a bit o' mystery. It's an Irish holiday remembering a guy that wasn't Irish who gained sainthood for driving from the island the snakes that never existed there in the first place. I think the drinking came from people trying to figure all of that out.
