I don't think you actually know what a troll is (or you're lying about it. Probably both), considering how sad an attempt that was at being trolling. It's like when people try to roleplay, but instead they play 4e, that's how bad you trolled.

A troll is a poster that says things specifically to spark an argument and get negative reactions. Also called Griefers in MMO's. I did not troll in this thread, but I have trolled in plenty others. Just ask KillerGM about what I said a few days ago.
Also, the bolded section is an EXCELLENT example of trolling.

EDIT: That was meant with all goodwill. I don't really think you're an idiot. Just young, I guess. There are people everywhere that will take offense at whatever you say. But if the discussion doesn't interest you enough to give it another shot, then that's fine. To be honest, bane, there are far more effective trolls there than you, and I doubt anyone remembers what you did.

I do think that some come in looking to offend (and create multiple accounts to do so) ... but I haven't seen that from you.

Those are usually the trolls and they aren't looking for something to be offended by but rather something that they can use as a spring bored for trolling that sounds somewhat legit. Trolls well behave as if they've been offended just to start up an emotional flame war with other posters.
Astrid's just seems a bit......how shall I put this? Like a delicate crystal. If you make the wrong sound, or the wrong move, everything comes crashing down around you. I remember seeing Jayne_Cobb really tear Pyromancer999 in there for making a similar mistake. That kind of gave me the signal that it was time to leave for good, before I had to listen to that noise.

Quite often J_B seemed to purposely attack people. Such behavior is against the CoC.
A lot of the other things, like seeing people flaming each other all the time didn't help either. I realize that that is the minority, but it's just the impression that's stuck in my mind.
Well, those are just the things that I can think of ATM. The main reason that I don't go in Astrid's is because I'd probably have to watch what I type. And I hate having to censor myself.

I do it all the time. I just don't like it. (there are some exceptions, but in most cases I dislike it) I prefer to be myself, instead of what others want me to be.

.When you troll, it has to be about something that's entirely personal and unverifiable - bashing games other people play without explanation is a good way of trolling ("4e is like a video game", "3.x is just an example of horrible game design", "V:tM suxxors", and the like; mind you: all of these are sustainable - with arguments. So don't provide any. Instead, put things out there like this, on their own, and accuse everyone attacking them of stupidity/pseudo-intellectualism (works very well)/bad taste, or anything else).

Alternatively, it counts as trolling. People generally identify as anti-****. The phrase looks decidedly pro-**** even though it isn't. Which means that the dumbasses get angry. What you describe (bashing people) is flaming. Trolling is exactly being politically/ethically contrary. It's about people becoming outraged at your assertions, regardless of their validity.

Raping in self-defense is just about as impossible as things get. But hypothetically, if someone did it, they'd be okay in my book (I mean, we've seen people kill in self-defense, even painfully).
I could, but I'm actually quite fond of plausible deniability for all situations I am involved in.
But I guess we're getting away from the point of your statement. I have to say that I have found, in general, the people who fall for troll bait to be just as bad. They're really just trolls themselves who pander to public opinion, from where I'm standing.
I find it fascinating that people can't seem to realize how ridiculous they are sounding once they sink into anonymity. I'm afraid I'm going to have to attempt this method you have described for the sake of research. When the news reaches you that all reality show fan forums have succumbed to destruction, feel pride in your achievements.

I figured the progression was lurker > poster > troll, so I made a satirical post. It was also a little bit of helping him know what sorts of things are taboo.
Strange, that even the word "troll" (self-referencing and used for lawls) gets some people upset. I think its only against CoC to call someone else one, although... could be wrong.
