Seems like he was joking.  Like, that whole 'he hits like a girl ... I went to the hospital' thing sounds jokey to me.

Of course it's a joke. I doubt JDS is the type to talk smack about another fighter like Cain. Especially after the first puch in that fight nearly knocked him out and basically ruined the rest of the fight for him. That, and the way JDS looked afterwards doesn't sem like it was done by someone that hits like a girl.

Yeah, JDS seems like a good cat.  So does Cain, really.  I think people just miss Sonnen or something.  Respect is ok too, yanno?

True, but respect doesn't sell PPVs. Still, I don't think they need any of that back and forth to get people to buy the PPVs for their third fight. The first fight was a first round K.O. The second fight was five rounds of the UFC's version of Passion of the Christ. The third fight is going to be all out war.

And I like JDS's mention of fighting Jones. That would be an interesting fight.

Yeah, JDS vs Bones would be worth a watch.  And yeah, this is the class of the HW division.  People will buy because the fight will be good.  No worries about sales here.

Yup, everyone wants to watch heavyweihts knock each other out. High PPV buys are a given in that weight class. The Jones fight would be crazy tough. That may break a few PPV buy records. It would also be an interesting fight. Jones may not have the knock out power of JDS, but if he goes up to 240, the extra weight may give him a slight increase in punching power. And he would still have the longest reach of anyone, except for Struve.

Yup.  It's gonna be awesome for HW when Jones finally moves up.  Er ... for about two or three fights.  No depth.  LHW doesn't seem to have any depth right now either but it will once Jones moves up.

I don't know about that. There are a few guys at heavyweight tat are pretty good, they just aren't getting a fight time. Werdum is a pretty good fighter. He did look out of shape in his last fight against Nogueira, but he still managed to out-grapple Nogueira and submit him with an arm bar. Miocic, who pounded Big Country for three rounds and almost took him out, is looking like he has some skills. The guy only has one loss, to Struve, but still, he seems to be a promising fighter.

Yeah, he seems like he may be legit.  Werdum, though?  C'mon, he beat Nog - so what?  Nog is old and done.  That's the thing about the HW division, people that should have retired still look ok.  Cuz there's no depth.

Yeah, he seems like he may be legit.

Yup, but the question is, is his skill set and athletic ability at a level were he can take on JDS or Cain. People say that no one has tested JBJ's chin, but he took some pretty good shots from Rashad and Rampage. Neither managed to knowck him out. Of course, neither of those guys can hit as hard as JDS or Cain. Hell, the guys on Sports Science tested Cain's punching power when he was preparing to take on Lesnar, and it turned out that Cain had the hardest punch they had ever tested of any athlete, including the heavy weight boxers they tested.

Nogueira is a gatekeeper in the division. He still has some good grappling, and he can hit hard. Werdum has some serious jitsu, though. When he is in shape, he can also dish out some heavy handed punishment, as Big Country found out. Miocic also looks pretty damn good. The guy had pretty good footwork, and he didn't veere off of his game plan, it seems. I think you give that guy a few more fights, and about a year, and he'll be a top 10 guy.

It's sort of the same thing as in the LHW division.  In HW you've got two guys who are on another level and then everyone else.  The 'everyone else' at 205, though, are still pretty good.  In the HW division I'm not so sure.

That says a lot about the division to me.  ;)  Nog is a shell of his former self at this point and if he's 'good' then there ain't a lot of good guys around.

I don't know about that. I think it's worse in the LHW division. There is Jones, and then everyone else. Some of the other LHWs are entertaining to watch, and they are pretty good. Unfortunately good in LHW is a relative term. They are good compared to the other LHWs, but not good when compared to Jones. I mean, the only guy that you might say is good besides Jones, is Machida. However, did you see Machida's fight against Henderson? He sucked. It was a boring fight.

True, but there are other guys who make the HW division better than the LHW. Besides, it's always been a weakness of the UFC that they haven't been able to get a good amount of HW fighters. It seems to be industry wide. There just aren't as many HW fighters out there.

I dunno, I mean I think the rest of the pack at LHW is better than the rest at HW.  Jones is just that much more dominant than Cain or JDS.  There's some decent fighters for sure ... though a lot do seem to be slipping.  What's up with Evans?  Anyhoo, Hendo has been done since Shields whooped him like a Parkinson's stricken puppy.  Thank god he had enough after that to still give us the Bisping moment - though Bisping is also terrible.

Yeah, it's tough to get good guys at HW.  Just aren't many at all so your talent is lower overall.  Same with the womens' division, too - but that has a much better chance of changing.  But who do you seriously have at HW aside from Cain and JDS?  Mir's done, Nog's a gatekeeper at best, Cormier seems to be a bust, Rothwell was awful before he came over, Congo forgot how to fight, Big Country kinda seems like a choke artist at best and mediocre at worst (but he's entertaining as hell so that's something), Pat Barry is Pat Barry ... I mean, Tim Sylvia said he wanted to come back to the UFC and that may be possible with how shallow the talent pool is at HW.

I wouldn't go that far. The LHW division is stuck with only three guys right now: Jones, Machida, and Gustafsson, and face it, no one really cares about Machida... and Gustafsson is no JDS to Jones' Cain. Who is there in the LHW division? I mean, the only way the LHW division becomes interesting again is if Silva steps up and challenges Jones. You know that isn't going to happen.

Hey, admit it, you'd have a hell of a time watching Tim Silva getting wrecked again.

Meh, HW is still pretty lame.  I had hopes for Nelson but he fell apart.  Maybe they can get CroCop back.

Totes.  Hell, he said he wanted to fight Mir.  I think Mir would be able to break his arm again cuz even though Mir is kinda terrible he's still better than that lurpy bastard.

To be fair, Nelson took the fight on two weeks notice. He didn't have a full training camp, and it showed in his lack of endurance. Not hat I'm not blaming Nelson for his loss. He should have been smart enough to know that two weeks wasn't enough. He just got arrogant and thought that Miocic would be an easy win. Still, Nelson usually performs better.

Well, that is the thing that makes Mir sometimes fun to watch. Breaking arms makes any fight better. They should throw Cormier and JDS in the octogon.

He's choked before, too.  I wonder if he's stuck where he's at.  I really hope not - I mean, I'd love to see him as HW champ and what that'd do to Dana's blood pressure.

Yup.  Though if Cormier had to face JDS it'd probably be a broken skull.  Still fun, though - especially to listen to.  See: Jones vs Vera.

That is true. Maybe Nelson is the Bispin of the HW division?

So? I'd be down to watch Cormier take a few too many to the face.

Could be.  I hope not cuz he'd make an awesome champ.  Still, when I ask myself whether or not he'd be able to beat Cain or JDS my answer is invariably 'hell no'.

Hell yeah.  He may be able to take it, though.  I mean, he's obviously taken a few too many dozen donuts to the gut.

Yeah, he is definitely not in te same leage with JDS or Cain. He might be able to get there if he got in shape. He needs more speed. He also needs better training partners. At least a coach that can help him game plan. All he did against Mioci was try for the overhand right. Sure, when he lands it, he can knock people out, but if he isn't able to get it, he should change his plan. He is supposed to have good jitsu, but he didn't show any of it. He should have tried going for a takedown at least.

I'm betting if Cormier gets tossed into a fight with JDS, Cormier's face will look like a doughnut.
