| #2veslfenSep 25, 2008 19:24:13 | Just watched the Heroes premier on TiVo. Awesome, and WTF??? I thought who shot Nathan was going to be a season-long, or at least several-episode story arc. Not a 2 minute one. And I haven't seen past the 1st half-hour (watching rest this weekend), but how in the hell does Claire get out alive? He already started sawing her head off. Does she regenerate too fast for him to kill her and take her power? |
| #3thecasualoblivionSep 25, 2008 19:31:12 | I thought who shot Nathan was going to be a season-long, or at least several-episode story arc. Well, they kind of explain what Sylar needs to do to steal a power, and... |
| #4veslfenSep 26, 2008 11:07:57 | Fine. From now on, I'm taping and watching it tuesday nights. My (shudder) mom wants to watch it with me, which usually means waiting until the weekend. Screw that. And monday's episode looks awesome. Sylar plus Dr. Bennet?? Nikki alive?! The only problem I take with this show is the stupid breathless previews that basically say the next Heroes episode will be so mind blowing you'll **** your pants as you watch. |
| #5thecasualoblivionSep 26, 2008 11:09:15 | The only problem I take with this show is the stupid breathless previews that basically say the next Heroes episode will be so mind blowing you'll **** your pants as you watch. Sometimes they actually deliver on that promise. Its what makes those previews work. I also liked when the African guy called Parkman by his name. That was a bit of a crap your pants moment to me. |
| #6veslfenSep 26, 2008 13:45:49 | Sometimes they actually deliver on that promise. Its what makes those previews work. The Haitian, you mean? And speaking of the Haitian, wouldn't he be the one person able to resist Matt's control powers? He could stop it back when it was just mind-reading. And I think Matt's story arc will be a descent and struggle with villianhood. He's already got too much power. It's the way it goes. You get a power (in cases like this, it usually involves control over others). You swear to only use it in emergencies/not at all. Finally, when all hope is lost, you draw on it and use it even though you don't want to. And it works. Thus, you are amazed. From here it's a slippery slope to eventually crossing the line between what's actually "right" and what you think is "right" or needs to be done. Matt's already started this back towards the end of season two. After locking his dad away inside his illusions, he used the influence part to convince that other officer to let him search for Sylar. Or something like that; my memory's a little fuzzy. And he was my favorite character of season one, too... Right now it's Noah Bennett. |
| #7veslfenSep 30, 2008 7:01:30 | Just caught up and saw the most recent episode last night. At least we know who Tracy Strauss is (sort of). Questions I have at large and not directed at anyone in particular: 1. Who's this Brenda woman Zimmerman mistook Strauss for and what's her power? 2. Where are the other level 5 escapees? 3. Is Matt suddenly able to paint the future now too? 4. Can Angela control Sylar? 5. What is Sylar cooking in the next episode, and why do I keep feeling as though it's going to be like a rehabe episode for him where angela "heals" his "scars"? Could it be cookies? 6. Are there painters for each hero with a major role? Isaac seemed to paint pictures of Hiro almost exclusively, and the african dude focuses on Parkman. And speaking of parkman, the woman in the last two pictures looks like Daphne an awful lot. Only in the "remade" future, it looks like Matt's dad is holding her corpse. Wtf?? Musings: 1. Hiro and Ando look like they're beginning to fall apart, figuratively. 2. Suresh is falling apart, literally. And good riddance. 3. Sylar could make one hell of a good guy, as well as a great X-files agent. 4. My guess is Zimmerman has a god complex and made the equivalent of the powerpuff girls: Nikki, Tracy, and Brenda(?). 5. Hooray! No more Monica! And I've still got my fingers crossed for Maya's getting bumped off. Hated those season two additions. 6. Jesse's power was a real letdown. Ooooh, Black Bolt! Amazing! Terrible! and... not that wow-making. I wish he had had something really, reeeeeaally dark, something like Matt's dad had. But I guess it's better Sylar (Gabriel?) doesn't get that one. 7. Looks like the Haitian is the only one who could stop Sylar now if he crossed back over, assuming he can cancel the immortality power he got from Claire. And I loled when Claire asked him "are you going to eat my brain?" and he goes "Claire... that's disgusting." ![]() |
| #8knights_discipleSep 30, 2008 7:11:33 | .... I'm sure it was thrown in for all us fans who thought he did. I mean, seriously, where were the brains going? ...That whole scene, really set of scenes, was great/awesome/scary/squicky. |
| #9batshidoSep 30, 2008 7:15:46 | Dammit. I can't believe I missed this. NBC had better have it up on their site. And my home internet had better start working again. Dammit. |
| #10knights_discipleSep 30, 2008 7:38:39 | Dammit. I can't believe I missed this. Yeah. I've not seen last night's yet, not sure when it gets up, but they've got 301 and 302 (the two-part opener) up for sure. |
| #11zombie_babiesSep 30, 2008 8:33:43 | I've seen both of the new episodes (and DVRd them in HD, too) and can honestly say that - thus far - the show is still on track. Still fun to watch, still engaging with multiple story lines, still developing in an interesting way. Good stuff. |
| #12veslfenSep 30, 2008 10:59:01 | The story arcs I'm personally the most psyched about are Sylar's (he could be one hell of a hero), Matt's, and Noah's. I'm a little worried Matt's is going to be completely seperate from the "main" storyline, because that's more or less what happened with Nikki in season one (and quite a few characters in season two), and it was really boring. Wish Tracy & Zimmerman's arc was less powerpuff girls-ish. But you never know, it could be wildly different. I'm confused... is Sylar's power to see how things work- including what part of the brain controls the powers- or is it just a bloodthirst? or both? or does the second one come with the territory of the first? or is the bloodthirst just psychological, and thus maybe curable? ??? Keeps you guessing. |
| #13mircolesSep 30, 2008 18:00:37 | Sylar's immortallity isn't as big of a problem as you would think. All that you need to do is lodge something big in his brain, like the stick that lodged in Claire's oh so long ago, and he won't regen until it's removed. Kind of like staking a vampire. |

| #15Bobfred21Oct 05, 2008 17:27:14 | So far I'm not as excited about season 3 as I was the previous couple seasons. 1. Opening scene with future Claire and future Peter: Claire says "I always loved you Peter". WTF!? Peter is her uncle. 2. Mohinder randomly injects herself, no build up, nothing. At the very least they should have built it up for a few episodes how he always wished he had a power and then had him inject himself in a moment of desperation, as is it felt uncharacteristically stupid of Dr. Suresh. 3. Tracy Strauss feels to me like a huge cop out. Man, you finally killed Nikki and you find a way to basically keep her in the show, the personality basically seems like a Jessica clone as well. Not happy about it. 4. Sylar is now an unstoppable killing machine and he just up and decides to be a good guy? I'm intrigued but wary, this one isn't as big a deal. 5. Peter being trapped in Jesse's body lasted all of five minutes, it wasn't even all that exciting because it was so short. 6. I don't know what it is but I don't like Daphne, she just rubs me the wrong way, her personality, outfit, everything. Not to say the show is without merit, I'm certainly intrigued by Future Peter and Good Sylar (which there is now way he'll stay good cause than the good side has ALL of the CRAZY bad asses). |
| #16veslfenOct 06, 2008 12:29:40 | So far I'm not as excited about season 3 as I was the previous couple seasons. 1. True, but I'm guessing they didn't think of that. Unless she meant as an uncle? 2. Personally I hope he does a hulk thing or dies. Skin coming off in gooey chunks isn't good either way. I always hated his character. 3. To make matters even worse, Dr. Zimmerman is the Professor to Nikki, Tracy, and Brenda's... damn, I can't remember the powerpuff girl's names... 4. This is the only one I disagree on. Sylar's motivation for his killing sprees was attention. He was growing up knowing he was special, but his family never listened to him and actively ridiculed the notion. He started his homicidal advenures because suresh's dad refused to see that Sylar did have a power. This is clearly some sort of need for affection or guidance. Angela has a strong hold over him because she's first of all his real mom, second she recognizes he's "special", third she seems to genuinely care for him (extremely odd for Angela), and fourth he now has a mommy who thinks the world of him. He's not good right now any more than Angela is. My guess is he'll follow her lead which for now happens to coincide with what the "good guys" want. 5. I agree. Not only was it too short a time, but Jesse's power was really stupid and underwhelming. They were making it out to be something really strong or evil, and that's it?! What a gipp! 6. I don't know, I'm ambivalent toward her at the moment. She seems kind of one-note, and it could just be because the Hatian is one of my top 5 favorite characters in the show, but I think the interplay between him and Hiro is much more interesting than the "Daphne runs to [major city]. Hiro teleports there, finds her, and stops time. She increases her base speed so it matches his, makes a few obnoxious and supposedly witty remarks, and takes off again after hitting/slapping/punching Hiro" formula that's being used now. |
| #17archtyrant_terevothOct 13, 2008 8:22:48 | 2. Mohinder randomly injects herself, no build up, nothing. At the very least they should have built it up for a few episodes how he always wished he had a power and then had him inject himself in a moment of desperation, as is it felt uncharacteristically stupid of Dr. Suresh. Yeah, that part made zero sense to me. He was always portrayed as a selfless humanitarian/scientist, not as some power-hungry guy. That was just a character trait 180 with no build up to it. Mohinder had never even really expressed any jealousy at all to those with abilities, or any desire to imbue himself with them. Then there was the whole supposed breakthrough with the powers coming from adrenaline, which contradicts what we've seen so far from Sylar, who clearly learns his acquired powers from the brain, not the adrenal gland. Claire's power on the other hand seems to be centered on her blood, since it heals people just by injecting it in them. The adrenal theory doesn't seem to make any sense at all, given what we've seen from the other heroes. 4. Sylar is now an unstoppable killing machine and he just up and decides to be a good guy? I'm intrigued but wary, this one isn't as big a deal. Actually, I was kind of curious about this, but it seems that Sylar being a somewhat conflicted killer was always present in Heroes from the beginning. If you watch the early season 1 episodes, he mentions "The hunger" in his phone message to Mohinder's father, and Sylar also has that room in his apartment where he's written "Forgive me for my sins" or something to that effect all over the walls. Clearly, I think Sylar trying to redeem himself and control his hunger isn't exactly all that unbelievable, as he has not been completely without any guilt or conscience. 5. Peter being trapped in Jesse's body lasted all of five minutes, it wasn't even all that exciting because it was so short. Jesse was a huge disappointment anyway. His power was seriously overhyped, as was really all the villains. The guy with potentially the coolest power, the magnetic guy, ended up getting killed first. Other than that, you've got a basic fire attack, Jesse's sonic thing and the other guy who just seems to have super strength but requires people to be afraid to get it. The new villains were pretty disappointing as a whole if you ask me. I mean they're nothing that any of the other reasonably powerful Heroes couldn't take out easily. I'm certainly intrigued by Future Peter and Good Sylar (which there is now way he'll stay good cause than the good side has ALL of the CRAZY bad asses). They're trying to turn Peter into an anti-hero I think, where he's going to be some kind of dangerous extremist, sort of like Future Hiro in season 1. It's the same deal, the shy passive guy turns into a badass willing to do whatever it takes to fix the future. Though it really does bother me that Peter is able to use Hiro's powers at all. I mean, Peter had a lot of trouble mastering even using basic powers like flight or invisibility, stuff that the original possessors of those powers didn't have any real trouble mastering. Hiro's power on the other hand is difficult alone for Hiro himself to use, he's had lots of mishaps in Season 1, and really screwed things up with it. I just can't see Peter using that second-hand with any degree of success, since his powers seem to be more of an emotional feeling thing than a calculated act of concentration, which Hiro's ability clearly requires to use effectively. Peter's ability bothers me a bit too because it's supposedly based on some kind of empathetic transfer, where he thinks of others and how they made him feel and acquires their powers temporarily. However, Future Peter seems to be lacking a lot of his emotions and is much more cold-hearted. He's now a person who shuts out his feelings and I would think that would really curb his ability to make use of his empathetic-based powers. And on a side note, I think it's a mistake for the show to have too many time-travelers. The show is just getting too convoluted with all the weird time-travel plots. Because it really just starts to beg the question of why anyone is worried about anything. I mean when Hiro ends up losing the formula to Daphne he could just as easily have tried to alter history so he never opened the safe, by leaving another video tape or delivering a message to someone else. Since Season 1 showed us that Future Hiro could communicate a message to Peter which Peter could later give to Hiro in the present and that apparently didn't cause problems. Now to make matters worse, Peter has time-travel too, so it's almost just like whatever happens there's a permanent reset button feature, which makes the threat to the world that the heroes are trying to fix a lot more trivial feeling. Excessive use of time-travel just rubs me the wrong way, especially when it's not given any limitation as to how far back someone can go with it. |
| #18paul_profession_bakerOct 13, 2008 8:44:25 | My favourite always was Parkman and is new path leaves pretty skeptic. I mean during the scene with is totem, I could not remain serious because I had Homer Simpson on the brain. "It's because I kicked you, right?" On another note, I really enjoyed the scene with futur Sylar and is son. Now that is a rage !! |

I mean during the scene with is totem, I could not remain serious because I had Homer Simpson on the brain. "It's because I kicked you, right?" By some massive coincidence, I saw that episode of the Simpsons for the first time literally right before I watched the latest Heroes. I was starting to wonder if the universe was trying to tell me something... |
| #20AerodythOct 13, 2008 10:49:08 | 4. Sylar is now an unstoppable killing machine and he just up and decides to be a good guy? I'm intrigued but wary, this one isn't as big a deal. 4. Don't forget he has a son in the future who probably has abilities. If he's going psycho, he'll put his son at risk. I also agree with the idea he wanted attention and with it, he'll calm down. It was also nice to see that the "hunger" was a defect of his power, not a psychological disorder. 5. Read the web comic with him in it. He flayed a guy alive with a single blast. Logically, he can tone his voice however he wants and disintegrate anything or anyone, creeps me out a little |
