That's a bit on the extreme side, isn't it?  I mean, not wanting to support something?  Fine, that's your own call.  But actively wishing harm on someone else just becuase you disagree with their ideology?  Isn't that crossing the line by a bit?

Oh, I know where it would leave me, I just don't care where it will leave them.

... I shouldn't be surprised.  There's a saying 'bout this, after all.  "You can lead a horse to water..."

Anyway.

Point being: having your work burn down is harmful to a person.  Can leave them out of a job, could mean they lost a lot of important things, all sorts of things.  Very harmful.  Maybe not in the blunt-trauma sort of way, but it's quite silly to pretend that you can burn down a studio while leaving the people that worked there unaffected.

So wishing to be able to watch a place burn?  You're wishing harm on people.

Do you really think the directors and the (high-earning) actors are the only ones that'll get hurt?  Nah, they're the ones that'll blink and say "oh well".  The people that really would be hurt would be the grips, the sound technicians, the secretary and the janitors.  All the people that do the work of making the movies but without the glamour.

THAT's who would be hurt.

And that Clooney clown needs a good shaking...

Again with the violence. Okay, let me lay this out for you.

The Truth is subjective. Fact is not. Fact may be manipulated into fiction, however.

Fact: It is warmer in some places in the world now, than it was a hundred years ago.
Fact: We emit more greenhouse gases than we did then.
Corrolary: If both are Fact, they must be related.

Fiction (based on just barely enough fact to make it not sound like utter ) Greenhouse gasses are THE cause of Global Warming.

Statement 1: Those durned Corporations! They're killing the planet! I have to reduce my carbon footprint!

Statement 2: That's a little flimsy on the evidence there, kids. Can we try that again from the top, and hold the bull, please? Wasn't there this Ice Age thing awhile back, then a warm, and cooling off?

Statement 3: You're full of it. It's not going on at all. Hippies.

Which is telling the Truth?

4) All of the Above. They all believe very firmly what they're saying, based on whatever facts they possess. That they are or are not ignoring/asking for other information is irrelevant.

None of them are lying.

Now, if you're claiming to be a Journalist and are known(or claiming) to be in possession of all the facts involved, then you're capable of lying writ large. Lying involves misrepresentation of the facts as you know them to be.

Tom Cruise firmly believes that. Same for Clooney. Or anyone else, for that matter.

On the other paw, if I may, localization and export of American films bring in piles of money to go with it. In the end, it tends to balance out in our favor, or so I've heard.

Yeah EE...I smell what you're cookin'...

*looks at desk* but my breakfast is a can of Dr. Pepper and a frozen burrito when I get to work.  I'm not cookin' anything.

More seriously, I'm honestly surprised if the cast was all white.  I mean, I know Hollywood isn't as racially-concious as it should be, but if they're really trying for a "mankind the destroyer" and "noble savage" metaphor, you'd think they'd avoid making it specifically the "great white devil" and make it a more egalatarian mix, ya know?  So as to avoid people getting the wrong message?

I mean really... if you're actually trying to send a message, and not just making another action flick based off a rehashed sci-fi plot that I could probably find in a Heinlein book, you'd think they'd try to be a bit more aware of the message they're sending.

For that matter, are there any women in the military group?  I think (from the trailers) there's at least one doctor who's a woman, but if she's the only human woman in the movie (and I'm betting she's a bit more of a sympathetic character then the other soldiers) with all the other women being the natives (who apparently the main character wants to bang) then they're also sending a bit of a message of man as destroyer, woman as protector.

I mean, pack too many messages into one thing, and it gets bogged down with 'em, ya know?

Well the "mostly white guys" thing may have an explanation beyond "Hollywood is racist". It could simply be that when they put out the casting call that "mostly white guys" showed up. It could also have been a conscious decision on the part of the filmmakers to suggest that the human race as portrayed in the film isn't particulalry egalitarian or enlightened, whihc would tie in with the overall themes.

How dare Hollywood push their agenda and lie in a fictional movie about giant blue guys on an alien planet! They need to tell the truth like the Bush administration did about WMDs in Iraq!

Nothing wrong with making bad movies that bring in lots of green stuff. It's one of our very few remaining "growth" industries.

A growth industry that commonly outsources effects work and films off-continent.  Only a very few are experiencing any growth from this junk.

On the other paw, if I may, localization and export of American films bring in piles of money to go with it. In the end, it tends to balance out in our favor, or so I've heard.

I'll see if I can dig up some stats on that here soon. I'm sure there are at least a few.

Hmm.  I can see that.  But this means that mostly the rich get richer.  Staff don't get a back end deal, after all.  I guess it keeps jobs goin' an' all that crap and the rich get richer is sort of how things go, though.

And thats just it.
Movies aren't made to just entertain anymore... now they have to push an agenda.
And since they are movies, they can use extremes to play on peoples emotions and only give one point of view while laughing opposing points of view away.

Yeah, what ever happened to good old-fashioned wholesome aggenda-free American values movies like Birth of a Nation…

I mean, look at that fruitcake Al Gore!
Got caught lieing and can't even look at the cameras now.

Err…wha?

And who stands to gain the most money over this Global Warming fiasco?
That's right. Al Gore.

Am I the only one who think the Nac Mac Aliens from this movie are creepy as hell? I'm not going to see this movie because of them. Oh, and the clearly not particularly imaginative plot*.

*I know that all popular plots have been done long ago, but this one looks particularly bad.

You hate blue people or something?

I think the whole white man killing the natives theme has been overplayed quite a bit. And it only really seems a fitting scene in a western movie and stuff.

Wha?  Isn't this supposed to be future military?  And it's mostly white?  Well that's a bit... odd...  you'd think they'd move onto the "humans killing the natives" and not really worrying about the ethnicity of the humans, ya know?

I think it just so happens that the majority of people in most movies are white. I think it is more about people raping the planet because we're all a bunch of greedy planet destroying, global warming causing, money grubbing creatures.

I haven't seen the movie. only the trailer. it did look like though that most of the cast was caucasion. and sigourney weaver playes that lass in the trailer.
