Just curious - how did you lot get into investing? Do you do it yourself? Do you have a special broker, company, agent, family friend, etc.? No real specifics are necessary of course. I've just stuck to the "put my money in a bank" scheme all my life (I'm a saver), and with our current economy I end up thinking more about finance and how various people do it than usual.

Personally, I was never very interested in the stock market, preferring the more "reliable" methods of fund-storing (though not so reliable these days, and maybe there are portfolios out there just as). There's also always been something about making money from...moving money around...that's always struck me as odd, if not dangerous. I mean all money comes from somewhere. Yet money made in such a fashion has no physical "product" beyond an arcane formula of a stock's "worth". Of course, usury used to be a sin in ye olden times (I'm not uber-religious but I can see the wisdom in hating high interest), but debt is practically a way of life in America today. Hmm.

Idea: Post with [Practical] or [Philosophical] depending on whether you're responding to the first or second paragraphs. Blame me for rambling. :P

[Practical]
I Invest by putting any extra money I have on to whatever debt I have with the highest intrest rate at the time. Usually credit card, but if that is paid off, house. If I get that paid off I'll think about paying more on my car but, with 0% intrest, Ill probably just put it in a back somewhere to get that little bit of intrest coming back. Also, Publix stock.
