Well one day at school one of my friends spilled a drink on the desk. The teacher told him to wipe it up. My friend (British) cleaned it by wiping up and down. My other friend (Chinesse) said that side to side is better. I (Mexican) told him that dabbing is the best way.

So I wanted to poll people to see if there is a corelation between ethnicity and cleaning of liquids technique. So post your ethnicity and cleaning style.

I'm American. My heritage is 50% Polish, 25% Irish and 25% German. I take care of spills the same way every red blooded American does. I tell my fiancee "Hey! There's a spill over there!" and watch as she cleans it up. ;)

I am kidding, of course. I'd hope that'd be obvious, but ....

My preferred method:
Cast prestidigitation.

I am an American, and that is my preferred method as well.

As soon as possible, but most folks here just let them be.
"There's no reason to cry over spilled milk" a saying goes - it's not beer after all!

I'm Scotch/Irish and I call my fat beagle to come clean it up for me.

If the spill is on a surface he cannot reach, I will perform elaborate calculus in order to determine whether it would be more work to go get something with which to clean it up myself or to lift the fat beagle up so that he can reach. The calculus invariably proves more difficult than either course of action, and is usually wrong anyway.

Such is my sloth. And my beagle.

If the spill is water, I leave it (in the carpet). Anything else anywhere else, in my house, I push up against it... though I suppose pulling the stain towards me could achieve the same effect. By the way, this is with a cloth or paper towel, which tears apart in the carpet and creates a bigger mess, at which time I ask my girlfriend, "Hey babe, can you help me out here?" And then I get the look. You all know the look.

Throw towel on spill, move to another desk. If possible, blame it on someone else.

Set fire to desk.

Kill all witnesses.

I also use the PTG method.
PTG stands for "Paper Towel Guy." The PTG's job is to hurl himself on spills before it reaches someone, usually with the warcry of "Fire in the hole!" or the like.

I find that if you leave it there it evaporates. ;)

I generally soak up a big spill. After that or for a smaller spill I clean in a circular motion and try not to spread it too far while doing so.

Set fire to desk.

Kill all witnesses.

But only in a not too messy way, or else they're be more fires to set and witnesses to kill.

Who needs a lighter?

I practically have Fireball as an at-will power...

we have a laminated dry erase battlemat that covers the whole table...

so we toss paper towels on it like a bullet wound and let the towels do the work for us.

but for the OP

it depends on what your cleaning....not ethnicity. lol

if its thin like water you dont wipe....you dab at it so you soak it up.

if your cleaning up windex you wipe, for that streak free shine TM.

if its salsa or bean dip (common for gamers) dabbing will do nothing but make a mess and smash beans in the surface....using circles makes a bigger mess, so you can only wipe it up....

which way do you wipe you ask?

i have a question in return.....
which way do all humans wipe their ......butts?!.. if you are side to side then you have some serious issues and a very dirty asbut.

Whoa, hold right there!
This thread was about spills, not butts.
Combining the two does not work well.

I use a mixture of techniques. And, if it is grease which is on fire, I sprinkle baking soda on it. :P

When I'm on the Prime Material Plane and in human form, I like to use side to side to wipe up spills.

Toxic substances I use a paper towel, non-toxic substances I use a rag, and spiritual spills are best cleaned up with a +1 Turkey Baster.
