When I first showed up on this board, a lot of older edition players were complaining about 3e. The impression I got was that the 3e players in general were of the opinion "Too bad, that was then, this is now, get used to it you old farts." Now that 4e is a reality and they're getting a dose of their own medicine by 4e adherents, I wonder if they have any sympathy for the old farts? |

Some of the 2e people are still playing 2e, some are just starting to switch to 3e and some skipped 3e completely and went to 4e. Some have probably quit playing. I think that people like to complain. They may not think that 3e is the best but they like it so they'll complain about everything else. It doesn't matter what edition a person is determined to torture themselves with because all of the complaining from each group sounds the same. |
| #3pigknightMar 25, 2009 17:42:26 | Have you seen the Edition War thread? So in the beginning the 3e forces try to defeat the 4e guys before they can get a foothold. But eventually the 4e guys basically wipe out the 3e guys. Then a 3e guy joins the 4e guys. Eventually, 3e and 4e are going to become allies. Then 2e is going to try to take both of them down. It seems familiar. Hmmmm.... |

I got my entire 1e collection from one such person who swore that 2e had just destroyed the game he loved so dearly. Among the goodies he gave me? A first printing Gygax-Arneson set. He was too much of a gentleman to ask for his stuff back when he settled down, but being a lady I did offer. I do agree with dirtyfrank. Like my late, dear ol' dad used to say, "Some people'd complain if you hung 'em with a new rope." |
| #5KillerGMMar 26, 2009 2:45:55 | Yup, I agree. People will complain about everything. I remember when d20 Star Wars came out and people were complaining about WotC compared to WEG, which had been freaking defunct for years! As an aside, when I read the title, I immediately got the song "Suck" stuck in my head, so, cool on you. ![]() |

| #7KillerGMMar 26, 2009 3:14:03 | Oh, that's a good one too! I just like screaming "How does it FEEEEEEEEL?" in my head whenever I see this thread. |
| #8fabius_maximusMar 26, 2009 6:49:53 | I caught "Blue Monday" instead... It's "Like a rolling stone" for me... |
| #9Cpt_MichaMar 26, 2009 7:05:01 | Like a Rolling Stone. Yeah that immediately cropped up. No I don't think they feel any sympathy for the "old farts". They are far too self involved for that. |
| #10rakeMar 26, 2009 7:44:08 | My votes: Song Stuck In Head: Blue Monday. Old Fart Sympathy: F_ck 'em! : P |
