How many do YOU know?

Feb 11, 2009 14:23:57 just out of curiosity, how many girls do you know that play DnD? and how did they get into it? I started when I was 10. I liked playing magic the gathering, and my friend told me about a somewhat "similar" game, also made by Wizards. i was too young to really play, and only got serious at around 15, buty Ive been a DnD fan for years. anyone else?

Feb 11, 2009 14:28:23 I have gamed with 5 different women on what was/is a regular basis. I don't know how two of them got into gaming. I think that the other three got into it through things like V:tM.

This is including myself.

Feb 11, 2009 16:58:22 I've only gamed with one extensively. Every sunday for five years, barring a year break for a child. Aside from that I have gamed at least once with maybe a dozen? Hard to say.

Feb 11, 2009 22:40:42 Over twenty five or so years of gaming i've only gamed with two women. Both in the same group, one was a wife of a fellow gamer the other her friend.

Feb 12, 2009 5:13:13 I've been playing extensively with one (my wife now, she was my girlfriend when we started). In total I remember playing with 5 girls. They were all girlfriends of fellow players.

Feb 12, 2009 9:12:18 None. In 18 years of gaming, I've never gamed with a woman. I knew a few girls that did game together and in some of my friends' other groups, though. I have no idea if they still play. IIRC, it was 3 or 4 of 'em and they played one of their games (yes, they were involved in multiple games - something I've never done) as a sort of joke game called "Fashion World". It was the lighter side of a dark world that we played in at the time. It was a joke the DM of that game was playing on her BF (we played in his world and she corrupted it into FW). They did game seriously, too. In any event, they broke up and she moved away and the other couple I knew that had a gamer gal also broke up so I have no clue what they're up to now. I would not be surprised, however, to hear that their games are alive and well. They didn't do it for their BFs or guy friends, they did it for themselves. ;)

I've known 5 others. not counting my friend's sister (this being the friend who introduced me to the game in 4th grade) who probably was playing with us to not be bored.

all 3 in the current group had never played D&D before. it was my GF's 2nd campaign of D&D, having played in the camp preceding the current one. my best friend's GF had played L5R but not D&D. the third member of the party had never played any RPG of any kind ever.

they are three of the most enthusiastic players I've ever had.

two of the others worked at a game shop that I worked at in highschool. one other was a girlfriend who was a gamer from birth (I think that she spawned in the fantasy aisle of a Borders) one other was also a girlfriend that I met at a one-shot being run at the comic store. She got into gaming because she was single, and wanted to use D&D as a dating service. the other was the sister of a friend. she mostly played for attention. which she got. this is also the reason she became a stripper. using the same *assets* in both activities towards this end.

so I've known really good examples, and really bad examples, and a few that are right up the middle. overall, most girls are good roleplayers, but not great roll players. a grasp of the rules is something they often need help with, but they are often the most creative in character design, and the most proactive in RP encounters.

also, not to imply causation due to correlation, but D&D girls tend to be *amazing* in bed.

just a thought, but doesn't this belong in Astrid's Parlor?
