| #2jetshieldApr 30, 2011 11:23:27 | I think that comentator had one hand on his microphone. |
| #3mistresszeldaApr 30, 2011 11:42:07 | So this show is like Wipeout but not as fun? I've gotten called a couple times to be on Wipeout but haven't had the time to actually go and audition...I think these shows would be the best way to win money ever though Also I would dress like Mario |
| #4EscherEnigmaApr 30, 2011 13:32:52 | Proof once again that the Japanesse have more awesome game shows then the US. |
| #5EscefApr 30, 2011 13:45:34 | I love how the announcer keeps talking about how she's small and delicate... What? Delicate my hairy ass! She can probably take a hit better than I can! |
| #6jetshieldApr 30, 2011 14:45:04 | So this show is like Wipeout but not as fun? I've gotten called a couple times to be on Wipeout but haven't had the time to actually go and audition...I think these shows would be the best way to win money ever though Wipeout is a pathetic attempt to capture the pure awesomeness that is Ninja Warrior. |
| #7mistresszeldaApr 30, 2011 15:37:08 | I thought Wipeout was more of a ripoff of Most Xtreme Elimination. This inspires me to call back the casting director! |
| #8EscefApr 30, 2011 16:04:24 | Bah! They're all rip offs of American Gladiators. |
| #9homicidal_squirrelApr 30, 2011 16:04:33 | So this show is like Wipeout but not as fun? I've gotten called a couple times to be on Wipeout but haven't had the time to actually go and audition...I think these shows would be the best way to win money ever though Very true. So this show is like Wipeout but not as fun? I've gotten called a couple times to be on Wipeout but haven't had the time to actually go and audition...I think these shows would be the best way to win money ever though This is the women's version of Ninja Warrior. It takes a hell of an athlete to finish. I've already acheived total victory. Proof once again that the Japanesse have more awesome game shows then the US. I don't know if you saw the Simpsons episode where they go to Japan and lose all their money and flight tickets. They have to go on a Japanese game show to get money to get back home. The Japanese show host tells them "In American shows, you reward intelligence. In Japanese shows, we punish stupidity." |
| #10iqwinnApr 30, 2011 19:43:24 | Ninja Warrior (Sasuke, as the Japanese call it) is the most awesome show in the world. I wish to God that DirecTV hadn't taken G4 off of their lineup. Makoto Nagano is as close to a real-life hero as we can get. |
| #11jetshieldApr 30, 2011 20:12:38 | Ninja Warrior marathon all day today on G4. ![]() It almost makes up for the fact that I don't get to watch the PPV tonight. |
| #12homicidal_squirrelApr 30, 2011 20:30:13 | Ninja Warrior marathon all day today on G4. Are you referring to the UFC pay-per-view? I was thinking of going to a sports bar to see it, but I think I'll just watch it tomorrow on one of the MMA sites that put the fights up for free. |
| #13jetshieldApr 30, 2011 21:05:18 | Yup yup. If you know where I can see the whole fight rather than just a few highlights, you could share. ![]() |
| #14homicidal_squirrelApr 30, 2011 21:09:02 | I'll let you know as soon as I find them. You'll have to wait until tomorrow though. I won't know which sites have which fights until I find them. The UFC apperantly doesn't like their fights up ![]() |
| #15homicidal_squirrelApr 30, 2011 21:11:02 | If you want, you can always read the live blog of the fights. www.tsn.ca/mma/story/?id=364201 Just refresh the page every once in a while so you can see the updates. |
| #16jetshieldApr 30, 2011 21:22:29 | Heh. I think I'm one of the few people out there that wants GSP to lose. Thanks for the link. Never thought of that. I usually buy the PPV, but I'm too broke for this one. ![]() |
| #17homicidal_squirrelApr 30, 2011 21:30:17 | I know a few people who want GSP to lose. I just don't see it happening to Shields. GSP is just too active in fghts. He never stops throwing strikes or moving while he is wrestling or grappling his opponents. I don't think Shields can keep up the pace. GSP basically wears out his opponents within the first 3 rounds then does what he wants for the last 2 rounds. |
| #18jetshieldApr 30, 2011 21:48:09 | It's simple fact that GSP is a great fighter, and there's a better than good chance he'll win. In this case, however, I'm compelled to hope he loses based solely on his opponent's name. ;) |
| #19homicidal_squirrelApr 30, 2011 21:54:09 | Not to mention that GSP is Quebecoise and if he beats Jake Shields, an American, Goldo would probably gloat about it. Then again he may be offended at a U.S. company making a Quebecoise fight for our entertainment ![]() |
| #20homicidal_squirrelApr 30, 2011 22:44:57 | Dude... What is that thing growing out of Hominik's head?![]() |
| #21jetshieldApr 30, 2011 23:18:33 | Looks like a chestburster got lost. ![]() |
| #22homicidal_squirrelApr 30, 2011 23:26:39 | That is a possibility. Also, as expected... Jake Shields got beat by GSP. |
| #23jetshieldApr 30, 2011 23:36:32 | Yeah, I saw that. I was trying to pretend I hadn't. ;) |
| #24homicidal_squirrelApr 30, 2011 23:40:17 | At least Shields almost had him... oh... wait... no he didn't ![]() |
| #25zombie_babiesMay 02, 2011 13:58:15 | So Shields lost and wasn't terrible - but wasn't that great, either. Kinda how most people had it pegged. Er, most people that aren't fanboys. But I guess there's not been any rematch talk. Which is good. Bring on Diaz, dammit! That'd be a fight as long as Nick can stay on his feet. Well, ok. It may not be a fight. But if Nick's takedown D has improved he will smash GSP's face into a Hominick-esque Rocky Dennis impression. |

But if Nick's takedown D has improved he will smash GSP's face into a Hominick-esque Rocky Dennis impression. I don't know, I think people are giving Shields way too mucg credit. He pretty much blibded GSP's eye in the secobd round. That means that for rounds 3, , and 5 GSP essentiqlly had no depth perception. GSP couldn't see anything out of his left eye, and he still kept on hitting Shields. It was a boring performance by GSP, but shields just proved that he sucked so much, he couldn't take down a half blibd GSP. I don't think Diaz would do any better. Shields was the best out of that crew. Diaz may have better striking than Shields (and GSP), but He is just as one demensional as the rest. I don't think his take down defense is anywhere good enough to stop GSP. Hell, BJ Penn has better take down defense than Diaz, and GSP took him down. Diaz is supposed to be taking a boxing fight. I want to see how that turns out for him. By the way, did you catch the Nate Diaz fight? He got slammed three times. Completely man-handled that last round. |
| #27zombie_babiesMay 03, 2011 9:07:29 | Yeah, you must punch like a toddler if you can't KO someone that can't see anything coming to half of their body. And Diaz's TD defense is a real concern. I wonder, though, if GSP would keep it standing cuz of Diaz's sub skills? If so, it could be fun. If not, it'd be all dump 'n' hump. Lame. The Nate fight was the only one I was able to catch. He looked pretty bad up until that last round and then he looked like a joke. Those slams were friggin' awesome. I'm surprised he didn't get seriously injured. I mean, he tried to arrest his fall with his arm every time. That's a good way to break it. But yeah, damned cool. |
| #28homicidal_squirrelMay 03, 2011 9:50:31 | Yeah, you must punch like a toddler if you can't KO someone that can't see anything coming to half of their body. And Diaz's TD defense is a real concern. I wonder, though, if GSP would keep it standing cuz of Diaz's sub skills? If so, it could be fun. If not, it'd be all dump 'n' hump. Lame. First, you're insulting toddlers. That is uncalled for. Second, yeah, the fact he couldn't KO someone who can't see a strike coming to half his body is pretty bad. But if you see the actual fight, Shields could barely land a strike. That was just embarasing. I think Shields got extremely lucky that GSP's left eye was injured in round 2. By round 3 Shields looked like he was worn out. His cardio is not as good as GSP's. I think GSP would hae had a much better fight if he had been able to see. As for Diaz, Shields is supposed to be the best BJJ practitioner he has fought. If anyone was going to submit him, it would have been Shields. Diaz is good, but Shilds is better. Diaz has much better striking than Shields (Heh... who doesn't have better striking than Shields?). I think GSP would take him down and beat him for a bit. He would probably tire Diaz out in the first 2 rounds. Diaz's take down defense is suspect, but his cardio is a joke. I haven't seen him fight anyone that keeps a pace as high as GSP. That's the thing about GSP. He may not be the best striker or the best BJJ practitioner or the best wrestler, but he has the best cardio, he is faster than h is opponents, and he has an uncanny ability to dictate the type of fight. Look at all his fights. The guy just doesn't stop moving. Even when he is on top and his opponent ties up his arms. He keeps on moving and hits them with his houlders, puts his weight on them over and over. Then he takes his opponents out of their element. Shields may have had a better chance than most to submit GSP, but GSP just didn't let him take the fight to the ground. With Diaz, I think GSP would keep it on the ground. Most people can't do anything past the third round. They are just too tired. If Diaz is going to actually get a shot at GSP, I think he should have to fight BJ Penn and Matt Hughes to prove he deserves a shot. I'd like to see Shields vs Penn. That would be an interesting fight. Yeah, the first two rounds were bad, but that third round... damn. Two slams in a row. That was pure awesomeness right there. And then he went for another ride. I was amazed that he didn't snap his elbow trying to stop himself from hitting the mat. Also, I sent you a PM. |
| #29jetshieldMay 03, 2011 11:45:04 | In all fairness to Jake Shields, there was really nothing obvious about the injury to GPS's eye for him to key on. It wasn't swolen shut. There wasn't blood running into it. I'm not sure why he couldn't see out of it. I any event, he let GPS dictate the pace and style of the fight, and that's never a good idea. |
| #30zombie_babiesMay 03, 2011 11:49:56 | I saw the PM. Thx! I always thought Diaz's cardio was good. I mean, he does triathalons an' stuff. That said, I haven't seen him fight in a while and his last fight didn't last all that long (and he coulda lost it). Meh, if Shields was the best contender - and I don't doubt that - there won't be a good championship fight at 170 for a long, long time. I like Kampmann but GSP would just take him down and keep him there forever. It'd be so, so boring. Oh well, we'll see what Dana and Joe want, I guess. I like the idea of sending Diaz at Hughes and Penn first. If ya can't beat Hughes GSP would kill you. Like, you'd really die. Penn is a better test but he's almost done, too. Still, it'd be decent challenges and it'd increase awareness of Diaz, too. Though that's not needed cuz as soon as he's back under the UFC umbrella and a mic gets put in his face, all the newer UFC fans will know exactly who he is. 170 seems pretty dead at the moment. 155 and 205 are where it's at right now. |
| #31homicidal_squirrelMay 03, 2011 13:00:00 | In all fairness to Jake Shields, there was really nothing obvious about the injury to GPS's eye for him to key on. It wasn't swolen shut. There wasn't blood running into it. I'm not sure why he couldn't see out of it. That is true, but Shields is a trained fighter. He may have noticed if he had pressed the fight. He ddn't. Like you said, he let GSP dictate the pace and style. If he had been more agressive, he may have noticed there was something wrong with GSP. I saw the PM. Thx! Yeah, he has to have good cardio to run triatholons, but a fight with GSP is like sprinting the entire triatholon. It isn't the length of time of the fight I think Diaz would have a problem with, it's the pace. It's one thing to run a mile in 9 minutes, it's quite another to run that same mile in 4 minutes. Also, Diaz tends to like to taunt his opponents. If you watch the Diaz vs Paul Daley or the Diaz vs Evangelista Santos fights you see that he likes to taunt his opponents and he drops his defenses to do so. In the Daley fight he took a few punches that rocked him and dropped him. With Evangelista Santos he took a bunch of kicks in the first round and didn't bother to check them. He acts the tough guy. If he did that in a fight with GSP, GSP isn't going to strike with him. GSP is going to take him down and keep him down. Diaz might have amazing BJJ skills, but as far as I've seen, everyone from that group of fighters was saying that Shields was the best. And if he was the best they have to offer, Diaz may as well just give up as soon as he walks in the door. Yeah. I think they need to prove themselves with some of the other fighters before they get in with GSP and dissapoint everyone. I think a Nick Diaz vs Dan Hardy fight would be awesome to watch. Both are good strikers, and both are cocky bastards that wouldn't shut up before, during, or after the fight. That would be entertainment gold. Right now I don't see any of these guys beating GSP. GSP isn't the most exciting fighter; however, I don't think he really wants to be. He wins... and he gets paid to win. 170 seems pretty dead at the moment. 155 and 205 are where it's at right now. The lower weight classes are awesome. 155 and 145 have some good fights. Did you see the Jose Aldo vs Mark Homminik Fight? That was a pretty good fight, even if Homminik ended up growing a twin on his forehead. And lets face it, at 205, any fight against Jon Jones is going to be exciting. I don't that he is going to be losing the belt any time soon, but that guy puts on amazing fights. The good thing about the 205 division isthat even non-title fighta are good. UFC 133 has Rashad Evans vs Phil Davis. I'm going to give it to EVans, but I think Davis is going to give him a good fight. |
| #32zombie_babiesMay 03, 2011 13:09:40 | Yeah, I can see Nick yellin 'c'mon bitch!' in GSP's face right before he gets taken down and held there. Meh, I can't stand wrestlin' in MMA. Makes stuff pretty lame. It's like ya gotta be an Abu Dhabi winner to keep a wrestler from wantin' ya down. Just ... boring. Diaz vs Hardy would be fun as hell to see. Likely more fun to listen to, though. Both of 'em know how to talk. Thing is, Dan is more jokey with it. Likes to have fun goofin' around more. Diaz is serious cuz he really does think he's as good as he says he is. For GSP, there's just nobody there to fight and I really, really don't think he can move up. So we'll just have to wait for the next chump to get destroyed, I guess. Wonder if Fitch will be next. He took an ass whoopin' for 5 rounds before, why not again? Didn't see the Hominick fight but saw the results. Damn, man. You gotta be game to get beat down like that and still damn near beat the stuffin' out of the guy what did it to ya. I guess Aldo had a bad cut, though, so I doubt it'd go down that way again. Tell ya what, though, he earned his $120k for FotN with that'n. |

Makes stuff pretty lame. It's like ya gotta be an Abu Dhabi winner to keep a wrestler from wantin' ya down. Just ... boring. Yeah, it makes for pretty one sided fights. I just think people need to train better to be able to handle wrestlers. Wrestling could be entertaining though. Look at Nick Diaz getting slammed. That was entertaining as hell. Yeah, Diaz is pretty full of himself. A fight with him and Hardy would require the refs to wear the helmet cams used in Pride. That way we could hear what they are saying to each other. For GSP, there's just nobody there to fight and I really, really don't think he can move up. So we'll just have to wait for the next chump to get destroyed, I guess. Wonder if Fitch will be next. He took an ass whoopin' for 5 rounds before, why not again? I think they should keep him to one fight a year. Just have everyone else in the division fighting to see Didn't see the Hominick fight but saw the results. Damn, man. You gotta be game to get beat down like that and still damn near beat the stuffin' out of the guy what did it to ya. I guess Aldo had a bad cut, though, so I doubt it'd go down that way again. | #34zombie_babiesMay 03, 2011 14:08:47 | Heh, the UFC would never do that cam thing. They'd be forced to bleep too much for their Spike re-airs. ![]() Wrestling, to me, is still too boring too often for me to get excited when they sign some new guy who's main style is that. I've seen too many fights that sucked hard because one guy can wrestle and one guy can't. While that certainly puts the onus on the defender, it also kinda defeats the purpose - to the fans such as myself - of entertainment. For the wrestler, it's great. And he's the only guy that's happy about it. That just ain't cool IMO. |
| #35homicidal_squirrelMay 03, 2011 14:23:35 | Yes, but the blame can't all go to the wrestler. He is a professional fighter going into a fight to win. It isn't his fault the other guy sucks at wrestling or defending against wrestlers. The other guy needs tio take some of that blame for not being prepared. As for the cameras... it would have been great for the Koscheck vs Daley fight. |
| #36zombie_babiesMay 03, 2011 14:38:08 | Any Kos fight would work. He can't shut up. ![]() The thing with wrestling is that it's unfairly weighted in most judges' minds. I mean, I really don't care if you can lay on a guy for 15 minutes, if you aren't hurting him, you aren't hurting him and it's a fight so damage is (or should be) paramount. Non-wrestlers should practice defense, too of course. But wrestlers would be best suited practicing finishing, too. I mean, they really don't very often - at least not any more. And if the style that wins can't win with a finish, I don't think it can be called a fight. Wrestle into a sub, wrestle to control and GnP - for real and not pitter patters to ride out the round - and then you're right, it's on the guy that isn't a wrestler to prevent it. Right now, IMO, it's on whoever regulates the judges because the way fights are scored is just plain stupid. When King Mo beat Moussasi, all he did was lay on him and eat elbows and punches to the face. When the fight was over, King Mo looked like he stuck his face in a hornet's nest. Damn near blinded by bruises and all jacked up in general. Gegard, otoh, looked fine. So who did the damage? Not who won, that's for sure. Until they fix that, I'll crap on crappy wrestlers for gaming the system which is pretty much what they're doing. Smart, sure, but also incredibly lame. Not their fault but not the fault of the other guys either. When it finally takes more than wrestling someone to the ground and holding them there to outpoint them, wrestlers will need to improve the other aspects of their game and will make more exciting fighters. Wrestling may still be what gets them the win, but it'll do it more dynamically. |
