Can I get it without having to have the kids? Kind of a waste to spend it on the kids don't you think?

Yeah, though case to judge. In one hand it'S a lot of money, more then anyone needs. On the other this is the money the kids were born into.

I've always seen that as a silly argument. What if the family had gone bankrupt and lost everything. They had to move to some 1/1 apartment in a cruddy part of town, and they were forced to eat Ramen noodles?

They obviously be posting on these boards.

The argument is moot. This hasn't happened. If the dad somehow loses his revenue, this will affect the kids, but until then...

How do you suggest child support be calculated?

By how much money the lazy kid gets paid at whever job he/she finds.

Why are they giving these kids any money at all? It sounds like they've got plenty.

Not sure how it works in New York, but in California child support is legally required.

Sounds like your laws are kinda silly once again. It's strange enough to give child support to people who are already loaded, but to give more money because your parents are rich is just BS.

The child support doesn't come from the gov't, it comes from one of the parents.  In this case, it's silly cuz the kid's mom makes a ton of money, too.  Then again, if there's 50-50 parenting it's only fair to ask for 50-50 coverage of expenses, IMO.

If that's a 50/50 split, those kids have some serious expenses.

Ah ok, I was thinking about a different kind of child support. Well if it's between the parents then let them fight it out I say.

Yeah, I thought you might be.  When we see 'support', it's easy to think 'gov't' or something like that.  Our laws are still messed up, mind, but not quite that batplop.

What's the proper term for getting money from the government because you have a child? Or doesn't that exist? Because I always thought it was called child support and I'm pretty sure that's how they call it here.

Well, you don't get money for havin' a kid here unless you're already in some other aid program like welfare.  Then your benefits are increased because of the child.  We do get some tax breaks for kids, though.  That's about it.

Hm ok, might just be discussing Dutch law on an English forum somewhere then. It's easy the make the link, since the Dutch term for it is also child support, except it's a government program.

Yeah, that makes sense.  Silly languages and governments and children and stuff.
