| #1villieldrdvergrJan 03, 2011 15:22:56 | I am sick, yea, disgusted with internet debates! I am not even going to get into them anymore. That is my New Year's Resolution. Do you want to know why? Because internet debates are like monkeys fighting with cigarette lighters in a wooden clubhouse. |
| #2boraxeJan 03, 2011 15:40:07 | Usually when posting a rant it helps if people know who you are. |

| #4pluisjenJan 03, 2011 16:12:32 | "Having arguments on the internet is like competing in the special olympics. Even if you win, you are still a retard." Something like that? |
| #5homicidal_squirrelJan 03, 2011 16:17:02 | Dude... 4 posts and he's done? Someone must have really let him have it. |
| #6Robin_HoodlumJan 03, 2011 16:19:34 | Hmmmm.... Maybe it is a previous poster in disquise? |
| #7toastedamphibianJan 03, 2011 16:26:44 | Mabey it was me. |
| #8homicidal_squirrelJan 03, 2011 16:32:45 | You have been known to klet people have it. |
| #9EscherEnigmaJan 03, 2011 18:36:52 | Because internet debates are like monkeys fighting with cigarette lighters in a wooden clubhouse. ... They're fun to watch and make for great laughs? |
| #10toastedamphibianJan 03, 2011 19:18:59 | You have been known to let people have it. Took me a moment to see what you where saying. Actually I was responding to RH. |
| #11Sheffields_ParkJan 03, 2011 20:11:02 | I don't do them myself. The term "debate" is often bastardized to mean a "verbal slugfest" where one or more intellectually bankrupt, hypersensitive, overreactionary morons are out for blood over something that probably wasn't as bad as they're making it sound. For them, which ends up being most lurkers who should have stayed out of the conversation for the sake of their own credibility, so most people with a blog, YouTube channel, or outlet for their arrogance, paranoia, hostility, and ignorance. Nothing intellectual gets done, the other side doesn't listen to you, and when its all said and done, you've otherwise had no effect on your opponent or the audience watching other than wasting your time. A lot of that is due to incompetence, and being so incompetent that one can't see just how little they actually know (Dunning-Kruger effect). A lot of it is due to being tuned out by the other side. Unless you actually fall in line with most people's expectations or desires, the other side will often cover their ears. It also hurts the conversation when one or the other starts yelling, because most people tune it out, or focus on regaining some sense of false honor or reputation. And then of course, people with no lives can go on forever, so waiting for them to give up almost never works. The other problem is that you're probably going after radical/extreme members of a group. Never, ever a good idea. Personally, though, I prefer dialogues with people who are a little more reasonable, and otherwise civil discussions, or just preaching at the choire. It causes less stress and requires less work. However, I like to pick on people who try to bastardize science (especially Biochem) to push a point and denialists, as well as the occassional young earth creationist, so, if you have to do that, it helps to have a genuinely extensive knowledge about the topic and to keep it in the public eye. |
| #12toastedamphibianJan 03, 2011 20:29:13 | It also hurts the conversation when one or the other starts yelling, because most people tune it out, Oh, terribly sorry there chap. You seem to have started ranting and name calling in your first paragraph and I tuned you out. Dreadful fortune! |
| #13Sheffields_ParkJan 03, 2011 20:32:41 | Oh, terribly sorry there chap. You seem to have started ranting and name calling in your first paragraph and I tuned you out. Dreadful fortune! Yes, indeed, what a horrible tragedy. :D |
| #14homicidal_squirrelJan 03, 2011 21:00:43 | You have been known to let people have it. Funny enough, your answer worked for both. |
| #15toastedamphibianJan 03, 2011 21:52:52 | You have been known to let people have it. Yeah, but the thing is, the way you interpreted it, well, it is unlikely but far from impossible. The way I ment it on the other hand, implying that I a) would post under a diffrent name and b) would ever get tired of arguing on the internet, is flat out absurd. |
| #16EscefJan 03, 2011 23:04:28 | Hmmmm.... Like the Kurgan? |
| #17jesse.two.coinsJan 04, 2011 6:31:58 | God made earth big whoop wanna fight about it? jk jk |
| #18Sheffields_ParkJan 04, 2011 18:03:20 | God made earth big whoop wanna fight about it? jk jk Yes! You and me.... and about fifty other people. We fight to the death at dawn with samurai swords! |
| #19toastedamphibianJan 04, 2011 18:33:20 | Oh jolly good, what a grand spectacle. I'll gather the gentry on the knoll to spectate this momentous occasion. However, would it not be proper to postpone till the sun is nearing its apex? Dawn is dreadfully early and a truncheon on the knoll is far more satisfying than an early morning breakfast. |
| #20Ragnar_LodbrokJan 04, 2011 18:34:23 | You guys can bring all the katanas you want. I'll bring napalm. |
| #21toastedamphibianJan 04, 2011 18:38:16 | You guys can bring all the katanas you want. I'll bring napalm. You vile rogue! That is a powerfully unsportsman like attitude. |
| #22Ragnar_LodbrokJan 04, 2011 18:46:31 | You guys can bring all the katanas you want. I'll bring napalm. Fair fights are for idiots. Besides, someone running around on fire is rather humorous. |
| #23toastedamphibianJan 04, 2011 18:50:39 | You guys can bring all the katanas you want. I'll bring napalm. That's barbaric! We can't have flaming peasents running about all willy-nilly, setting the grass on fire, causing a ruckus, and generally mucking up our picknic! Whats more, the only thing that smells worse than a bloddy sweatty commoner is one on fire. Bloody awful! No I simply will not allow it. If you cannot conduct yourself in a civilized manner you will assuredly be banned from the combat. |
| #24Sheffields_ParkJan 04, 2011 20:32:16 | Your betters need their beauty sleep James Watson, Richard Dawkins (for his work in genetics), Harvard Geneticist and Physiologist Pardis Sabeti, and Alaska University Invertibrate Sexual Biologist/Professor Aaron Baldwin won't need their beauty sleep, in fact, they might agree with the time. : P And Francis Crick is dead. Everyone else just needs coffee. |
| #25toastedamphibianJan 04, 2011 20:57:18 | Your betters need their beauty sleep Hmm true, true. Those quaint bookish types are notoriously unconcerned with their appearance and keep quaint hours. Still, others have appearances, and reputations, worthy of being maintained and keeping toilers' hours is not conducive to that. Being of the lesser classes, I cannot fault you your ignorance on this matter as it is far and away removed from your typical pedestrian concerns. Suffice it to say you should reschedule. |
| #26Sheffields_ParkJan 04, 2011 21:15:43 | Your betters need their beauty sleep It's not so much ignorance as the fact that I don't care about spectators. It's a battle to the death, not a tea party. :P If you want to watch, invest in coffee. Or go to bed earlier. |
| #27toastedamphibianJan 04, 2011 21:34:44 | My you are a vexing lot of miscriants. Truely a testiment to the simple fact that the managment of affairs of honor and combat should be the exclusive provence of the gentry. You baser folks do not have the proclivity for leadership or eye for propriety necessary to realize the importance of your actions. The niceties must be observed even, no, especially in our most violent of moments for that truely is what seperates us from the animals. I fear you would all be worse than literal gutter vermin is not for the guidance the nobility provides for you through the providance of the Lord Almighty! |
| #28pluisjenJan 05, 2011 0:07:28 | You guys can bring all the katanas you want. I'll bring napalm. Fair fights are for those who can win a fair fight and lose an unfair one. Obviously unfair fights are for those that have it the other way around. |

| #31ADHadhJan 06, 2011 16:57:44 | I'd like to point out that, as frothy as you guys may sometimes be, I much, much prefer to debate here than anywhere else. And by anywhere else I mean dA. Some of those deviants show off their lousy "debates" in their galleries *shudder* |
| #32mock26Jan 07, 2011 8:40:57 | I am sick, yea, disgusted with internet debates! I am not even going to get into them anymore. That is my New Year's Resolution. Do you want to know why?
