| #1IdolisFeb 11, 2009 16:45:26 | I have decided to quit due to the constant nagging of my wife combined with other reasons of my own. I want the transition to be as painless as possible. Help me please. |
| #2ciaranFeb 11, 2009 16:55:16 | I only smoked briefly when I was 16, so if you care to disregard then I understand. Most of the people I have known in my life who took up smoking began so as a social activity. Some of them to deal with stress. Some to resist being hungry. It doesn't matter what your reason is or was. If you lack the true desire to quit then you might as well climb back on that horse until you're ready to get off. But, as you surely know, there's more to it. Another social activity where people smoke? Drinking! Its temptation. Are you stressed? Well it not the lack of nicotine stressing you out. Deal with that. Are you gaining weight? Go to the gym. Eat better. Bored? Tough. Maybe you're just boring. But never, never, never give your self a single inch. If you pick up a pack after a year, or choke one down with an old friend, you're not going to stop there. There is no easy way. Maybe a little suffering will do you some good. ![]() |
| #3IdolisFeb 11, 2009 17:48:53 | At the first reading of your post I was a little put off by the tone, but I decided to reread it and found it to very insightful for someone who smoked for such a short period of time. I have been smoking off and on for 13 years. Those times I quit it was only a few short months at a time. Now I want to quit for good. No turning back. Besides my girlfriend's nagging I have seen the consequences of smoking in my mother who is now on oxygen on a good day and a respirator on a bad day to help her breathe. Those consequences seemed really far off when I was younger but now that I am past 30 I see that I don't have time to put it off. The cravings kill me though for all the reasons you mentioned. Is there an activity you could suggest that I could take up to relieve those cravings? |
| #4baneofelvesFeb 11, 2009 17:51:57 | I could send you some pictures of my uncle just before (and after) he died of emphyzyma. (spelling?) that is a good way to convince yourself not to smoke, If that would disturb you, then hit yourself hard, every time you think of taking a smoke. |
| #5IdolisFeb 11, 2009 17:57:25 | That might be helpful. Thank you. |
| #6ciaranFeb 11, 2009 18:00:22 | I can't count how many friends I have who smoke, can't quit, or spent years trying. To relieve the cravings? Aside from crack or unhealthy obsession? :D Anything you enjoy that will cause you to be physically and mentally preoccupied. You know at work when you're in the middle of something real big and you can't justify taking a smoke break everytime you want one? You were busy, right? I could go on but I'd be afraid to fall to too many cliches. There's the chemical aspect. Just like some chemicals in your brain make you happy or not tired, you have ones that make you want one. So, you can go the counter-chemical route... Otherwise, you need to buff up your ego to the point that it can shut down or hold back your id when it scream "GIMME GIMME GIMME!" Maybe thats why so many ex-smokers get a holier than thou attitude... Anyway, I hope someone else has something to say... |
| #7baneofelvesFeb 11, 2009 18:00:46 | K. I'll try to get them, not 100% sure. (the odds are heavily stacked against me) My aunt may have burned them all already (I didn't get any of 'em when I ahd the chance), and even if she didn't she and I aren't on the best of terms. But lemme describe my uncle's situation for you. They had him on life support, with tubes running in and out of him. And he was supposed to be unconsious. He wasn't. His last week on earth was a living hell. think about that when you want a smoke. |
| #8minja_dupFeb 11, 2009 18:02:53 | The cravings kill me though for all the reasons you mentioned. Is there an activity you could suggest that I could take up to relieve those cravings? I hear exercising works. Breathing better usually means feeling better and this will give you a positive reason to avoid the temptation. Avoid the old situations that you used to smoke in, the old hang outs. I had a friend who actually charted out the cigarettes that he smoked during the day, the whens, the heavy times, the how muchs. He then planned his day accordingly to avoid those things. Chew gum, drink water, do push ups, surround yourself by friends that support your decision. I am also told the first 48 hours are the worst, after that it gets easier. Although I wouldn't know first hand. That is all I have to offer. |
| #9IdolisFeb 11, 2009 18:04:51 | Thanks Minja. Getting off my fat ass is probably a good idea even if I wasn't quitting. |
| #10ciaranFeb 11, 2009 18:07:44 | And BTW, I'm sorry to have put you off. You seem pretty cool. Minja's advice is much friendlier than mine, and perhaps the more tangible. |
| #11IdolisFeb 11, 2009 18:10:32 | And BTW, I'm sorry to have put you off. You seem pretty cool. I wasn't put off much by it, that's why I reread it. I know you were just trying to be helpful and sometimes a swift kick in the ass is what a person needs to get the ball rolling. Thanks again. |
| #12minja_dupFeb 11, 2009 18:15:38 | Thanks Minja. Getting off my fat ass is probably a good idea even if I wasn't quitting. What if you change brands right before you quit? My friend was really brand loyal and he hated bumming from other people if they didn't smoke his brand. He said they tasted like . But if you did that right before you quit smoking may not seem as tasteful. Just a thought. Breathe well.... :D |
| #13IdolisFeb 11, 2009 18:18:06 | What if you change brands right before you quit? My friend was really brand loyal and he hated bumming from other people if they didn't smoke his brand. He said they tasted like That would probably work for some people but when I am desperate and can't get my Kools I smoke whatever's cheapest. It was a good suggestion though. |

| #16IdolisFeb 11, 2009 18:43:15 | You could hire your own cheerleaders to inspire you to victory!!! *Picks jaw up off the floor after the mental picture that conjured. Looks over his shoulder hoping his wife didn't see. And laughs uproariously. |
| #17lofgrenFeb 12, 2009 11:07:07 | In my experience, nothing actually relieves the craving. I am exactly like you, having quit for only a couple months at a time over the past ten years. Recently I decided to stop completely, and I made it a month before I broke down. Now I'm smoking my second "last pack" this year, but I intend to redouble my efforts once it's gone. The trick is really just not smoking. As unbearable as the craving is, just don't smoke. It sounds stupid, but there it is. I know some people who have had success with the gum, but I know at least two who now chew the gum everyday (which is probably better for you, if that's the way you want to go). For myself, when I would quit in the past I would typically start up again when thrown into a familiar situation I had not been in for a little while, like I would not smoke and then one night get drunk and play poker, and I couldn't drink and sit around a poker table with all my friends smoking and not smoke myself. Another strategy I have seen work is to not smoke your last pack. Just keep it unopened. If you keep telling yourself you can always smoke those if it gets really, really bad, then you can avoid some of the panic associated with not having cigarettes around when you have a craving. The strategy that I think sounds the best intellectually but would never work for me was my rommate's. He started taking judo, and if he smoked he would end up getting his butt kicked. |
| #18aradaineFeb 12, 2009 11:09:44 | Come off of them gradually. It's either that go Cold Turkey, and live somewhere where there are no cigs for sale. Start changing your daily routine as you start coming off of them. Alot of addiction is mental association change what you do for lunch, change where you have your lunch and maybe even what you eat for example. That sort of thing. |
| #19IdolisFeb 12, 2009 11:11:45 | Thanks Iofgren, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that has had problems fighting the cravings. Right now, I am using Commit Lozenges, the mint ones, the cherry ones taste nasty. It seems to be helping. |
| #20zombie_babiesFeb 12, 2009 13:19:12 | It's already been said, but the only real way to quit is to simply quit. You just have to make up your mind to never smoke again. I like smoking. I really, really enjoy it. But I quit. There were many times that I'd stop for a month or two - sometimes even making it to four or six - and then I'd have a bad day and bum a smoke just to relax. Then I'd do it again. And again. Eventually, I'd feel bad about taking so many smokes from my pals that I'd buy a pack for myself. And smoke the whole damned thing in a matter of hours. It wasn't until this last time that I actually felt like I quit. The reason is because I finally decided to actually do it. No slow weaning, no patches, no gum. Just done. I've been in all of the situations that would make me falter and resume smoking and I've passed all those tests (yes, even when drunk). It's not something that anyone or any product can help you do. It's all in your willpower and desire to stop. If your desire isn't real, you just won't do it. So, I guess as far as advice goes, I'd suggest really looking inside of yourself and asking the tough questions: do you really and honestly want to quit? If you cannot answer with a definite "yes", there's not much that can help you. Smoking was the absolute hardest thing I quit. During my twenties, I played with some very serious stuff. I quit all that without much trouble. Smoking is on an entirely different level. I once worked with a woman that was a former heroin junky. She lost her kids, had friends die and all that jazz. Eventually, she fixed herself up, got her kids back, bought a house, etc. She slowly got rid of all her vices (and there were quite a few). The second to last thing she quit was smoking. That's after heroin, crack, weed, alcohol and god knows what else. When I left that job, she was still working on her final vice - caffeine. When whoever "they" are tell you that smoking is tough to quit, "they" ain't lying. Expect a struggle and be prepared for it. It's going to be tough. Very. So I wish you the best of luck. Once you're really ready, though, it won't seem nearly as bad as all the times you tried before. ;) |
| #21aradaineFeb 12, 2009 13:23:33 | Something that might help as well, when you think about smoking think "Do I want to look like Mialee?" "Do I want to have my voicebox removed?" Or just imagine that you'd be kissing Mialee everytime you'd be taking a puff of cigs. That might give you some extra will power. |
| #22lofgrenFeb 12, 2009 13:37:26 | So, I guess as far as advice goes, I'd suggest really looking inside of yourself and asking the tough questions: do you really and honestly want to quit? If you cannot answer with a definite "yes", there's not much that can help you. So, so true. You can't half-ass it, which I'm afraid is still what I'm doing. I'm going to keep trying, because trying at least means I smoke less, but there is no second step to quitting. |
| #23zombie_babiesFeb 12, 2009 13:45:05 | So, so true. You can't half-ass it, which I'm afraid is still what I'm doing. I'm going to keep trying, because trying at least means I smoke less, but there is no second step to quitting. Yeah. I'm actually still worried myself even though I've passed all of the tough tests. Bar nights with the boys, the holidays, D&D Sundays, etc. I made it through all of them, but I still get the urge every now and then. I understand that "always an addict" stuff so much better now. I think the worry helps, though. Keeps ya' vigilant. ;) |
| #24IdolisFeb 12, 2009 14:02:28 | Thank you. Thank you all. I think what is really helping me right now is that there are so many people pulling for me. I really appreciate that. I don't like to disappoint people and knowing that others out there who don't really know me have taken the time to respond to this thread helps me alot. Thanks again and may you be blessed for the rest of your days. Okay, that sounded really mushy but I meant every word. |
| #25ixien_kotharFeb 12, 2009 14:17:42 | All I can say is "good luck man". I've been smoking for 8 years and I've tried to quit too many times to count. My main problem is that most of my friends smoke. Being around people who smoke when you're trying to quit makes it almost impossible. So, I guess my only advice is to spend as much time as possible with people who don't smoke. |
| #26minja_dupFeb 12, 2009 20:04:31 | Thank you. Thank you all. | #28minja_dupFeb 12, 2009 20:42:39 | ummmm.... ....maybe |
| #29dirtyfrankFeb 12, 2009 20:44:30 | Did you lead the cheers or did you just follow along? Basically, were you the squad captain? |
| #30IdolisFeb 12, 2009 22:56:58 | Gurgle gurgle, mmmm cheerleaders, in my best Homer Simpson impersonation. |
| #31dirtyfrankFeb 12, 2009 23:02:13 | Idolis, was your lass a cheerleader? If she was then maybe she can join Minja in the cheering. |
| #32IdolisFeb 12, 2009 23:05:03 | Nah, she wasn't. To be honest I had trouble with Jocks and Cheerleaders in Highschool and I was on the football team. How's that for ironic? |
| #33dirtyfrankFeb 12, 2009 23:13:35 | I was on the soccer team and when we had problems with the football players we either became their friends or picked on them. One time a few of the football players were mouthing off to us soccer players while they were being punished by their coach. Their punishment was to run to a fence and then back to their practice field and along their path they have to run by us soccer players. On their return trip all of the football players were breathing so heavily that were weren't talking nor were they able to hardly move much. On of the soccer players decided to tackled one of the bigger guys that was mouthing off and leveled his ass. It was hilarious to see. Not only did the football players look a bit worried/scared but their coach punished them more, for being dicks, once they got back to their practice field. They had to do other forms of punishment because I don't think the coach wanted to see anymore of his football players get owned because of their stupidity. I don't think they talked smack to us anymore after that. Also, quit smoking or else you're a pansy. :P |
| #34IdolisFeb 12, 2009 23:20:14 | Yeah, I played football in a small school. We only had 27 players so we played iron man football. I played almost the entire game. Offensive Line, right guard, Defensive Line, left tackle. On the special teams, punt and kick off and both returns. I was pretty good, but being a little heavy and wearing glasses and actually caring about my grades earned me reputation as a nerd. Ironically, I didn't know about D&D or it would have been worse. |
| #35dirtyfrankFeb 12, 2009 23:21:49 | NERD! |

| #56dirtyfrankFeb 13, 2009 14:46:47 | A good thing to do is to wash all of your clothes and to wash all the carpets and furniture in the house. Having less smoke residue around you will make it much easier to kick the habit. |

| #59zombie_babiesFeb 13, 2009 14:50:14 | Yeah. That will actually help. Once you quit for a li'l while, you'll smell that stuff much easier and it won't smell good. That nasty, smokey smell serves as a reminder of why you're quitting. If you leave all your smokey stuff stinkin' with smoke, it'll be harder to notice. So clean that stuff up. Oh, throw away all your lighters, too. It's amazing how seeing a stupid li'l lighter will make you weak. At least it did for me. ;) |

| #79IdolisFeb 14, 2009 18:40:44 | Haven't had time. I've been at the hotel all day in a non smoking room. When I get home I am definitely getting to work though. This place smells great. Well great for a hotel room. |
| #80dirtyfrankFeb 14, 2009 18:48:22 | Does it smell greater than a house that has the odor of an ash tray? |

| #88dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 0:49:47 | No, because that's just hard to do. I like to split easier things such as wood. |
| #89IdolisFeb 15, 2009 0:53:40 | Or skulls? |
| #90dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 0:58:12 | They don't really split. They kind of sort of just shatter and crack. |
| #91IdolisFeb 15, 2009 0:59:14 | No, they pop. |
| #92dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 1:05:02 | Like cherries? |
| #93IdolisFeb 15, 2009 1:07:11 | Well kinda...sorta like...maybe if...What was the question? |
| #94dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 1:12:12 | Something about how you were saying how awesome I am. ;) |
| #95IdolisFeb 15, 2009 1:19:42 | Well yeah you're awesome. I wouldn't let just anybody become my Master. |
| #96dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 1:24:18 | So.....I'm your master and not your wife? Sweet. :D |
| #97IdolisFeb 15, 2009 1:27:34 | Nah, she's my Lord and Savior and she allows you to be my Master. |
| #98dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 1:29:55 | ........because she knows what I'd do to her if she didn't. |
| #99IdolisFeb 15, 2009 1:36:03 | And that brings us full circle back to why she has me. |
| #100dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 1:38:29 | And why is that? |
| #101IdolisFeb 15, 2009 1:45:20 | I don't know really. She keeps that secret. |
| #102dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 1:56:20 | Is it so that she can get closer to me? |
| #103IdolisFeb 15, 2009 2:07:10 | Possibly, she slapped me when I tried to get her to take a bath. Said something about wanting to be dirty. But I could have misheard that. |

| #107IdolisFeb 15, 2009 2:20:44 | Mentally. Not so much physically. But absolutely sexually. |

| #113IdolisFeb 15, 2009 2:34:42 | From hell |
| #114dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 2:38:46 | A good way to quit smoking is to not smoke cigarettes. |
| #115IdolisFeb 15, 2009 2:42:05 | Alright, we're back on topic! Whoo Hoo! |
| #116dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 2:46:54 | You should smoke cigars instead. ;) |
| #117IdolisFeb 15, 2009 2:52:49 | No. I have a pipe. A tobacco pipe not the other kind. |
| #118dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 2:54:19 | Why do you not want a lead pipe? They come in handy for fighting intruders and keeping family away. |
| #119IdolisFeb 15, 2009 2:58:03 | Pipes are heavy and awkward. I keep a gun for that. |
| #120dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 2:58:43 | For keeping your family away? |
| #121IdolisFeb 15, 2009 3:02:28 | Absolutely, bunch of free loading and mom's a ***** but you know that already. |
| #122dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 13:15:47 | Of course. |

| #126dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 13:54:27 | I didn't say do them all at once. ;) Of course he can't do push ups, sit ups and run at the same time. What he should do is a marathon. It is a holiday weekend so there should be some marathon special on today. Just sit down and keep those eyes on the screen. Make sure that you have enough snacks and drink to last you all day. Idolis will need a comfortable chair but not one that is too comfortable because we can't having him fall asleep mid marathon. |
| #127IdolisFeb 15, 2009 13:56:23 | Sheesh, now Minja I know I'll be filling better and all but I haven't worked like that since I was on the wrestling team. |

| #136dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 14:18:02 | dirtyfrank don't get exhausted......unless he, of course, gets exhausted. Are ya both OK with "surprise" butt sex? |
| #137IdolisFeb 15, 2009 14:20:56 | Not me, but my wife likes it. One of the many reasons I love her so much. |
| #138dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 14:23:09 | So you don't like to surprise your wife with butt sex, yet she likes it and that is what you like about her. Am I missing something? |
| #139IdolisFeb 15, 2009 14:30:25 | Yes or you are being intentionally dense. She likes it, I like to do it to her. We are both very happy. |
| #140dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 14:32:06 | Do you like it done to you and does she like to do it to you? Would this make both of you very happy? :P |
| #141IdolisFeb 15, 2009 14:34:08 | Well yeah, of course. I am a firm believer in the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. |
| #142dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 14:36:18 | So she is the pitcher and you're the catcher? Or to say in other words, you wear the pants in the relationship but she tells you which pair to to put on. |

| #169dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 19:40:43 | Yup. I like to be a free radical. I like to be irrational. |
| #170IdolisFeb 15, 2009 19:46:11 | Of course you do.:D |
| #171dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 19:47:34 | What fun is there in being Euclidean? |
| #172IdolisFeb 15, 2009 19:50:39 | Uh OH! Brain melts because Dirtyfrank used a word that I don't know the meaning of. |
| #173dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 19:51:20 | Then google it or take some high level math. |
| #174IdolisFeb 15, 2009 20:02:28 | Thanks Dirtyfrank, I did and it was very interesting reading. |
| #175dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 20:06:58 | What did you learn? |
| #176IdolisFeb 15, 2009 20:30:29 | Not much but I did learn it had to do with geometry and angles and space inbetween them. At least that is what I think. |
| #177dirtyfrankFeb 15, 2009 20:40:06 | We live in a Euclidean dimensional space. It has to do with what the inner product of the dimensional space is defined by. Ours is defined by the Euclidean inner product. If it was to be defined by something else, our math would still work but would seem quite foreign to us. This is a bad way of trying to explain it in a manner in which it can be understood by people. |
| #178IdolisFeb 15, 2009 20:44:39 | Oh okay, I didn't do so well in Math. I do know things that algebra but anything beyond that I have no experience. I can learn it but I don't know it. |
| #179braveboudicaFeb 16, 2009 8:59:57 | Also, Idolis, I don't know if you'd heard, but I was told at my local convenience store that cigarette taxes are going to go up by ten dollars a carton in April. Whether this is true or not, I don't know, but I do know that I have an unemployed sister that's going to go cold turkey if this occurs. |
| #180IdolisFeb 16, 2009 13:35:21 | Thanks Brave. Day five and all is well. |
| #181dirtyfrankFeb 16, 2009 13:36:37 | Why did you decide to quit smoking? You know, everyone hates a quitter. :P |
| #182IdolisFeb 16, 2009 13:37:57 | Because quitting is easy. |
| #183dirtyfrankFeb 16, 2009 13:40:13 | That's it? You just wanted to take the easy route? ;) |
| #184IdolisFeb 16, 2009 13:41:39 | Well yeah. I'm a simple man. |
| #185IdolisFeb 17, 2009 12:48:28 | Messed up last night and bought a pack of cigs. I hate myself for doing it but I vow to try again. Soooooo, Day 1 and all is well. |
| #186zombie_babiesFeb 17, 2009 12:51:35 | Don't feel too bad. Before this time, I had bought packs, smoked a couple and then threw them away - only to do the same thing again a month later. It happens. Remember how it feels now to prevent doing it again. |
| #1871_ton_ghostFeb 17, 2009 12:52:25 | The many times I've quit the best impetus was a chest cold. You don't even want one really to begin with; fatigue, congestion, general crappiness w/ each hit forces your hand. It's weird to mentally want one and be aware of it, yet know every hit hurts and worses said cold.Other advice: -Keep both hands busy. Console video gaming helped, particularly shooters or something that requires frequent action/decision making. Painting minis, writing on the computer, and sculpture being the best one for me (too much effort to clean up and go out for a smoke). Reading helps anything to keep your hands preoccupied as they're used to the smoke being there -Thinking of having one, distract yourself (mind) for 5 minutes. Anything. -Sequester yourself from all your smoking friends a while. Just a whiff of it or the association is enough to undo your willpower. 4 days minimum before the nicotine has finally left your system physically. 2 weeks mentally for me. -Movies, lots of them. Can't smoke in the theatre and the money you save helps pay for them or a like venue where you're engaged enough that you don't think of having them or simply cannot. -After dinner/sex/whatever, do something immediately different as typically, the smoke is the finisher and gets associated w/ these common rituals. -Exercise, even a little bit; like a hike, 20 min of sit-ups/push-ups, etc. to facilitate serotonin (ward off depression/angst THAT WILL COME), rid cortisol. -Remind everyone close to you constantly, "I'm in withdrawl, so remember that I need more slack. Still love/respect you, just be patient." Otherwise, you get, "Oh, he's such a dick." when you may very well not be. -Chew gum to break ritual or like-minded action. -Reward system, something to look forward to. Figure the $/month on smokes vs. other expenditures. That's a few movies, gas in the car, night out w/ your girl, whatever. It's all relative in the end. |
| #188IdolisFeb 17, 2009 12:55:52 | Thanks One Ton and Zombie. |
| #189dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 13:41:41 | Messed up last night and bought a pack of cigs. I hate myself for doing it but I vow to try again. Soooooo, Day 1 and all is well. Did you just buy a pack or did you also start smoking the whole pack? If you think you may end up buying more in the future then you should try not to go into stores alone. If the other person knows that you are trying to quit and want to help you then they can help keep you from buying more smokes. |
| #190IdolisFeb 17, 2009 13:48:34 | I bought the pack and started smoking the whole thing. I did it after my wife went to bed purposely so she couldn't try to stop me. I planned the whole thing out. I was really upset and all I could think about was getting a cig to calm my nerves. It was a mistake because my nerves are calm but now I feel really guilty. Started using the Commit Lozenges again this morning and will probably tell my wife what happened so that she can yell at me when she gets home from work. The good cursing out and her visible anger (and probably flowing tears) will be all the incentive I need not to do such a stupid thing again. |
| #191dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 13:59:35 | Yep, you probably should tell your wife. The fact that you sat and planned the whole thing out sort of says that you have a problem and that problem is smoking. Oh, telling your wife will also give her something to hold over your head. She's what, 3 or 4 days better at quitting smoking than you are? :P |
| #192IdolisFeb 17, 2009 14:05:59 | Lol, yeah something like that. She's an understanding woman but what I did was tantamount to lieing in her book. She'll have problems trusting me for a while but she'll also understand the reasons behind it. Our relationship won't suffer too much but I hate disappointing her. I feel bad for disappointing you all as well especially Minja after all the work she has done to cheer me on. If anyone doesn't know the story behind my goof up just read my entries in "What do you want to talk about?" thread. |
| #193dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 14:12:12 | I wouldn't say that it was "tantamount" to lying but rather that it "was" lying. Why? Because you had said that you would quit and then you didn't (or at least you only quit for a few days). Yes, you do have plans to continue quitting but it doesn't change the fact that you did go back to the habit that you are trying to kick, thus you didn't entirely quit. I say that you should let her know how much of a douche you feel like for what you did. Maybe if you beat yourself up enough she wont get as mad at you and may become more supportive. ;) Remember, teamwork. |
| #194IdolisFeb 17, 2009 14:26:55 | Thanks dirtyfrank. That's really good advice. Are you sure you are single? If you are, Dude go get a woman or a dude if that is your preference (no I am not calling you gay. I just don't know what your persuasion is) because someone is really missing out. |
| #195dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 14:32:56 | Yes, I'm single and, yes, I'm straight. I in general don't like people because I don't like to put up with their constant lies, games, and other BS, which is kind of the reason why I'm single. I tend to be happier when I'm by myself. |
| #196IdolisFeb 17, 2009 14:37:22 | I'm like that too, Dirtyfrank. Like to keep myself seperate from other people. Feel safer that way. But maybe you, like me, could find someone who isn't into playing games and is more interested in happiness with you than they are playing in a world that doesn't give a flying . |
| #197dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 14:40:35 | I don't isolate myself to feel safer. I do it to feel happier and less frustrated. |
| #198IdolisFeb 17, 2009 14:44:33 | Oh gotcha. I feel safer when I'm happier and less frustrated. People are jerks so let's make people jerky. |
| #199dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 14:49:06 | On thing that makes me incompatible with most people is that I'm as honest as I can possibly be. |
| #200IdolisFeb 17, 2009 14:53:51 | You too? I thought I was the only one. Being blunt and to the point is a virtue few people have the stomach for. |
| #201dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 14:56:01 | Honesty is what makes me a jerk in a lot of peoples' eyes. |
| #202IdolisFeb 17, 2009 14:58:52 | Yep, that happens. Be one with your inner jerk and the world is a better place. |
| #203dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 15:47:24 | Since Minja isn't here to cheer you on I'll just quote one of her posts for you. You could hire your own cheerleaders to inspire you to victory!!! |
| #204IdolisFeb 17, 2009 15:51:35 | I'm having visions of you in a skirt with pom poms. Hairy legs, a scuffy beard from being on a two day bender. Thanks alot, you jerk! |
| #205dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 15:53:26 | Your welcome. It looks like you need more support so I'll quote another one of Minja's posts. GO IDOLIS GO! |
| #206IdolisFeb 17, 2009 15:57:45 | *Pounds self on head screaming: Get Out! Get Out! Get Out! and cursing the computer. |
| #207annoyinglizardvoiceFeb 17, 2009 16:04:15 | Respect for trying. More so for trying again after the screwup. Some of 1tonghost's comments sounds like really good advice, particularly the video game part (instant gratification games have a similar affect on brain chemistry to many chemical addictions, so it should help hide the parts of the cravings) Good luck mate |
| #208dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 16:07:38 | An announcement from our friendly neighborhood Minja.Go Idolis Go! |
| #209zombie_babiesFeb 17, 2009 16:09:57 | It's easy to flow with the cheer, too. Just follow the bouncin' junk ... ;) |
| #210dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 19:27:44 | So, how are things going? |
| #211IdolisFeb 17, 2009 19:29:52 | So, how are things going? Don't know if you are talking to me. But if you are, pretty good. |
| #212dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 19:30:57 | Who else would I be talking to? |
| #213IdolisFeb 17, 2009 19:34:59 | I don't know, maybe Zombie Babies since his post was before yours. Really though, things are pretty good. Still have the cravings but my wife is being really supportive and I have the lozenges when the going gets really tough. |
| #214dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 19:37:57 | I don't know, maybe Zombie Babies since his post was before yours. But I know that he is never on at this hour. Really though, things are pretty good. Still have the cravings but my wife is being really supportive and I have the lozenges when the going gets really tough. You should have her give you a kick in the groin when you get a craving. It should help you kick the habit. ;) |
| #215IdolisFeb 17, 2009 19:39:44 | She hates my mom because she used to do that when I was in my teens and got a little out of control. She thinks it made me steril. So she won't do it because she wants kids. Thank god for the little ankle biters. |
| #216dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 19:42:21 | Wait! You mean to tell me that your own mother kicked your square in the nuts? Wow, that must have been one tough childhood. Did you deserve it or was she just taking out anger she had, of men, out on you? |
| #217IdolisFeb 17, 2009 19:44:29 | I deserved it. When I was a kid I became somewhat of a bully at home because I was the biggest there and was messed with a lot by the kids in my school. I couldn't fight everyone so I just brought it home sometimes. |
| #218dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 19:46:42 | So she had to kick your junk rather than smacking you? |
| #219IdolisFeb 17, 2009 19:50:00 | She got scared when I got angry and started punching stuff. She figured slapping me would just make me madder. While on the other hand, kicking me caused me to hit my knees and bellow for about 20 min. When I was done, I wasn't angry anymore. Well that and I thought she might do it again, lol. |
| #220dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 19:52:58 | I never understood why people had to go around and punch thing when angry. I also never understood why people took crap like a little and never do a thing about it but take it out on someone/something that doesn't deserve it. |
| #221IdolisFeb 17, 2009 19:56:57 | I was a kid. I grew up and don't do that stuff anymore. But I was a angry kid with a rough childhood so anger became a refuge. When I was angry, I didn't feel things like fear, pain, or shame. Anger was a simple emotion I could get my head around. Physical violence is a natural progression when the only emotion you are comfortable feeling is anger. |
| #222dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 19:59:53 | Not really. It's just the one thing that most people jump to. |
| #223IdolisFeb 17, 2009 20:05:40 | Especially a kid with a brain that is still developing. When a child is forced to deal with adult things they are not ready for they want to feel like they have control and physical violence is one way to establish control on others. I am not condoning the use of violence in any situation. It took me going to jail several times before I learned that the way I was living was a bad way to be living. You could say it was a wake up call. If anyone reading this is in their teens and having problems let me tell you violence is not the way to go. It is a road filled with hurt and pain and guilt for the things you have done. |
| #224dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 20:14:31 | It took me punching something once with my fist when I was mad as a teenager to get me to not hit (use physical violence) things when I was a teenager. It sucked having a broken bone in my hand and it sucked player soccer, goalie specifically, with one. Since then people have said that I have had the patience of a saint. I think that it's not patience but rather I've learned to let things go. Most things in life aren't worth getting upset about. In the light of eternity, most things are unimportant. |
| #225IdolisFeb 17, 2009 20:18:36 | True. It took me longer than that because I don't break easy, bruise easy, or bleed easy. I am not bragging, just basically saying I was a very lucky guy. I should have been a professional boxer. I am sure if there was an immediate effect I would have learned sooner. Actually, now that I come to think about it, I should have learned after the first time my mom kicked me. I was a really dense kid. |
| #226dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 20:27:52 | When I broke my hand, I was very angry with my dad. I was extremely angry at the moment and figured that hitting my dad would be a bad idea. My dad is big and could probably Darth Vader me. He did it to one of my older brothers many years ago and I didn't want to be the second. So my moment of clarity while I was angry was that hitting my dad would = bad. I instead hit something very hard. The break wasn't bad. It was a hairline fracture, but it hurt like hell. I had some time to think about things and realized that being angry just gives you a few choices to choose from, such as "bad" and "worse." Anything else you wish to talk about? |
| #227IdolisFeb 17, 2009 20:33:46 | What's it like on the coast? I have always lived in the Midwest a problem, when you're what I call a liberal redneck. |
| #228dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 20:51:41 | First off, I'm not really on the coast. Sacramento is about a 2 hour drive from the coast (depending on how much you're speeding). I would say that it can suck from time to time, but that may just be because most people here are idiots or because I'm a conservative in the most liberal state in the US. It's cold and wet during the winter, and unbearably hot, to most people, during the summer. The valley, where Sacramento is, tends to make peoples allergies worse and give allergies to those that never had them. For about the past week, Sacramento has been cold, wet and windy with lots of cloud cover. |
| #229IdolisFeb 17, 2009 20:57:26 | Yeah, it is kind of the same thing in St. Louis but reversed. I have a few liberal views mostly because of my family. Like I think it sucks that homosexuals don't have the same rights of straights when it comes to marriage and such. On the other hand, I believe in the death penalty and the right to bare arms (in most cases). |
| #230dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 22:54:02 | How's the lady doing with the smoking thing? |
| #231IdolisFeb 17, 2009 23:03:03 | She's fine with it. She's in bed now for work tomorrow. She didn't yell or cry or curse or anything. She just said, "If I had gotten a phone call like the one you had I would have been bawling my eyes out and wanted a damned cigarette too. |
| #232dirtyfrankFeb 17, 2009 23:10:08 | I'm not sure why but a call like the one you got would probably not bother me much at all. I'd probably think, "what can I do?" shrug my shoulders and then let things be. I'm not even sure if something like that would get me worked up. I guess I'm just weird. |
| #233IdolisFeb 17, 2009 23:13:20 | No not really. I know what you mean. I'm kinda numb feeling. I care but I am in that boat where this is nothing I can do except express my point of veiw and let it be, like you said. It bothers me a little that the situation is what it is but I'm not really upset by it. Edit: Except last night it kinda caught me off guard because I hadn't heard anything in a while. |
| #234IdolisFeb 18, 2009 9:55:10 | And day two begins anew. |
| #235dirtyfrankFeb 18, 2009 9:57:17 | How are you doing today? |
| #236IdolisFeb 18, 2009 10:00:01 | Better. My wife was a little angry because I didn't bring my cell phone into the bedroom and so she didn't hear the alarm and was late to work but I'm dealing. On the smoking, everything is ok. Got my lozenges so its all good. |
| #237dirtyfrankFeb 18, 2009 10:02:34 | You should learn to use an alarm clock for an alarm clock and not a phone. |
| #238IdolisFeb 18, 2009 10:04:27 | I have one in there but she won't use the damn thing. Says, "I can't see to shut it off in the morning," in a really irritating whine. |
| #239dirtyfrankFeb 18, 2009 10:07:44 | Does she open up her eyes when it goes off? Try to find a way to make it work. |
| #240IdolisFeb 18, 2009 10:12:03 | No, well yes, well I'm not sure. I know the light on her night stand has one of those long narrow shades so it is a little difficult to turn on. I think what she means is, "Hunny I don't want to hop right out of bed in the morning so it is easier to hit the snooze on a cell phone because all I have to do is open it because I'm just lazy like that. Now wasn't last night fun, you wanna do it again tomorrow?" |
| #241dirtyfrankFeb 18, 2009 14:52:53 | I don't really have an alarm clock to wake me up but rather to remind me to get up if I'm not up already. For a while I had my alarm clock just far enough away from the bed that I had to get out of bed to turn it off. Once I got a good habit of getting out of bed I was able to but it near the bed. I now sometimes turn it off, the alarm part, before it even goes off. |
| #242IdolisFeb 18, 2009 14:56:26 | Yeah, I used to be like that when I worked. I'm disabled. My wife on the other hand has to get up around 4:30 in the morning because she's a baker at an assisted living center. She likes to stay up and watch TV with me even though we have a dvr so it is hard for her to wake up in the morning. |
| #243dirtyfrankFeb 18, 2009 15:17:06 | Disabled as in "I don't feel like working anymore" or disabled as in "I'm missing a leg or something?" Bakers are always cool because they can bake things and stuff. The best way to a man's heart is through his stomach. |
| #244IdolisFeb 18, 2009 15:21:22 | Disabled as in having flashbacks that inhibit my ability to concentrate long enough to get a job done. My wife is an outstanding baker which is why I have gained 30 lbs. since I moved in about 2 and half years ago. The weight is just now starting to come off. |
| #245dirtyfrankFeb 18, 2009 15:23:05 | Was she fattening you so that you wouldn't freeze to death so far north? |
| #246IdolisFeb 18, 2009 15:27:08 | No, she is related to Jeffrey Dahmer (not a joke) so I think she was fattening me up to get her through the long cold winter. Somehow, I convinced her that she would be warmer if she kept me around. |
| #247IdolisFeb 19, 2009 17:04:00 | Day 4 and I really want a cigarette but I'm not having one. No way. No how. |
| #248dirtyfrankFeb 19, 2009 17:05:05 | Why would somebody want a cigarette? |
| #249IdolisFeb 19, 2009 17:12:24 | Yeah, I know. They taste nasty and make your breath and clothes stink. But the feeling you get from smoking one. Especially if you haven't smoked one in while. You get all light headed like the feeling you get from having just a couple of beers. Not enough to be drunk but feeling a little buzzed. That's why I want one. Now here is why I don't. I just don't want to be chained to a pack of cylindrical filtered tobacco products. |
| #250lofgrenFeb 19, 2009 17:43:11 | I finished my second last pack of the year and now I'm in it with you. Day 3 for me. Probably not much comfort, because there are hundreds of people like us all over the world right now, but at least if you last longer than me you can think, "Well, at least I am better than lofgren." |
| #251IdolisFeb 19, 2009 17:45:07 | Iofgren, good luck. Seriously. I'm pulling for ya. We need all the help we can get. |
| #252dirtyfrankFeb 19, 2009 18:07:09 | Yeah, I know. They taste nasty and make your breath and clothes stink. But the feeling you get from smoking one. Especially if you haven't smoked one in while. You get all light headed like the feeling you get from having just a couple of beers. Not enough to be drunk but feeling a little buzzed. So people like to smoke so that they can feel like crap? |
| #253IdolisFeb 19, 2009 18:14:09 | Basically, yeah. |
| #254lofgrenFeb 19, 2009 18:17:34 | So people like to smoke so that they can feel like crap? The friend who introduced me to smoking explained it best. When you're a smoker, you can have a cigarette and the feeling can only be described as "Ahhhh." Imagine the sound of all of your worries, all of the tough choices you may ever make, any stress or hardship you might be having, slipping away, and feeling only peace and tranquility for about five minutes. The trade off is that now you must have a cigarette to feel that way. And they'll kill you. It seems like a fair trade when you're eighteen and you have very few means of escape, especially if they're cheap in your area. Less so when you are a little older and you have some more freedom, and you live in NYC where they're $9.50 a pack. |
| #255stealthmarmotFeb 19, 2009 19:13:23 | Well Idolis I must say that I do want you to quit and I wish I could provide some more insightful info, but I never smoked and don't know anyone who quit successfully so I'm not much help there. What I can tell you is at least I myself have done something that could be considered similar. I'm trying to lose weight. And I don't mean the occasional skipping of pizza or cake. I mean the full blown planned meals, no cake, no pizza, no soda, no extra salt, exercise every day for at least 30 minutes holding a shotgun at the scale demanding that needle go down or else I will send it to scale hell to forever be stepped on by giant 800 pound demons for eternity. Serious business. For those who care: My Journey Show Current Diet: Body for Life (6 meals a day, smaller portions, one daya week I eat what I want) Current exercise program: Wii Fit. (Got fat like a gamer, get thin like a gamer) 30 minutes a day of mixing strength exercises, Yoga, and Aerobics. Current Day: 4 I had been doing the diet since mid December and some minor exercising, but now I have decided to go the full deal. Current weight: Just under 260. Ill get more detailed later. |
| #256IdolisFeb 19, 2009 19:13:54 | Yep Iofgren, that about sums it up. Edit: Thank you Stealth for sharing. Personal battles are always tough. Imagine your favorite game ran by someone who hates you. Challenge after challenge is presented with the sole purpous of taking you down a peg or two. Take pride in your victories. You've met the challenge and succeeded without dieing. Pat yourself on the back and get ready for the next day. |
| #257stealthmarmotFeb 19, 2009 20:05:06 | Lucky for me the Wii Fit stuff is actually fun for the most part.... except the running. Cant stand the running. But it is the most effective aerobic, so I have to do it. Don't like running. I can do walking, or strolling, or my personal favorite: Strutting. But running sucks. |
| #258IdolisFeb 19, 2009 21:37:04 | Now that's an exercise I could get into. We could call it Strutonics. Or Jive Walking. Or the Electric Strut. |
| #259IdolisFeb 21, 2009 20:42:03 | Day 6 and all is well. |
| #260baneofelvesFeb 21, 2009 20:50:26 | Good job. Just think of all the money you're saving so you can buy me XXX movies and mail the- I mean, all the money you're saving so you can get your wife gifts. Yes, that's what I meant. :D |
| #261IdolisFeb 21, 2009 20:55:15 | ![]() You are definitely a teenage boy, Bane. When I was your age my mom found one I borrowed from a friend under my bed. It was VHS so she watched it and then made me take the cassette apart and cut it into 1/4 inch pieces. That really sucked and my friend off badly. |
| #262baneofelvesFeb 21, 2009 20:59:33 | Yeah. What sucks about the sites is that you get cookies and viruses that follow you around. Man, I was in such deep **** that day. *shudder* Did your mom let you watch the video with her, or was she hogging it? Apparently my parents are afraid that it will "poison my mind" and make me treat women like objects, even though I don't. Ever. |
| #263IdolisFeb 21, 2009 21:05:14 | No she didn't let me watch. She watched it while I was at school. She met me at the door with it when I got home. She said it was disgusting and degrading to women and the next time I brought something like that into her home should would turn me into a woman with a rusty spoon and I believed her. I didn't watch one again until I left her house. Now I own some on DVD and my wife and I watch them together. How cool is that? |
| #264baneofelvesFeb 21, 2009 21:09:27 | must stop.....laughing....Dude, that is freaking hilarious. Turn you into a woman with a rusty spoon? :D Did you tell her that those women were letting themselves be used, so it's OK since they want it? Yeah...that argument just got me in more trouble. So, what, your wife makes you watch pornos so you can stop sucking in bed and learn tips from the pros? :P |
| #265IdolisFeb 21, 2009 21:12:55 | ![]() No its more like. She watches to learn more things to do to me. Well actually we both watch for that reason. |
| #266baneofelvesFeb 21, 2009 21:14:24 | riiiiight. Sure, you keep telling yourself that. (generic joke about Idolis' manhood) |
| #267IdolisFeb 21, 2009 21:19:42 | Okay, you got me there. I would now like to return to a subject more PG or PG-13 rated before the ORCs close this thread. I saw in another thread you weren't happy with the new Star Wars movies ie. the prequels. I have been a Star Wars fan since they first came out. My dad took me to see the Empire Strikes Back when I was maybe five. I thought the newer movies weren't that bad. The little organism being the force behind The Force was the only part that really bothered me. The rest was okay though in my opinion. |
| #268baneofelvesFeb 21, 2009 21:28:35 | here is my hate list for ep 1-3 EPISODE 1 Midichlorians. WTF? Gungans. Speech mannerisms, all of it. THEY LIVE UNDERWATER. MOST DROIDS DON'T WORK UNDERWATER. THEY'D BE SAFE IN THEIR CITIES. INSTEAD, THEY GO TO THER "SECRET HIDEY PLACE" ON THE SURFACE. WHERE THEY CAN BE FOUND, AND KILLED. *sigh* Anakin. That is NOT how a 9 year old acts. Personally I think Anakin should have been roughly Obi's age. It would make more sense, he would be worldly in dealing with the dregs of society, know more than Obi, but still have to be his apprentice. (kinda like learning something from someone dumber than you, it never really works out as well) So there would be a little more conflict between the two, which helps anakin fall. (they'd still be close buds though) ALSO, his romance with Padme would not be as creepy. Padme. A 14 year old girl, run a PLANET?! And she somehow gained the love of the people? Now, I have no idea what the hell it is that 14 year old girls do, but I'm 100% sure that it's not politics. Darth Maul. He was the only cool character, and he had no impact on the story, aside from killing Qui-Gon Jinn. He could have been so much more! ![]() EP 2 and 3 - haven't seem them in a while, so no comment. Here is a complaint that is for all episodes (1-3) FLAWED STORYLINE, CORNY DIALOGUE. George Lucas is insane. And what I hated was how Anakin's voice cracked in that part where he screams "I hate you" at Obi for slicing him up. Ugh. And I have issues with 4-6 as well. Not as many. But, I prefer to stick with the KOTOR era stuff, which GL had almost NO impact on. And I hate what he did to Darth Vader with ep 3. Why is he such a whiny *****? Vader is an evil, cruel cyborg that loves to choke people to death! I saw none of that! The only time I watch the new movies is when I'm rolling up a Jedi Knight and am picking a lightsabre form (like Soresu or Juyo) and I watch the appropriate fight scene to see how the style looks. I just watch it for the fights, not the story. Since the story sucks. |
| #269minja_dupFeb 21, 2009 21:31:45 | Don't like running. I can do walking, or strolling, or my personal favorite: Strutting. But running sucks. Running is awesome, you never feel so healthy and so alive. |
| #270IdolisFeb 21, 2009 21:33:48 | I can see your point. Nowadays people want violence and lots of it hence movies like 300 and Shoot 'em Up. Two movies I really like by the way. Whenever, they turn a graphic novel into a movie you'll see me in line to watch it. Awesome stuff. |
| #271baneofelvesFeb 21, 2009 21:38:25 | Don't get me wrong, the violence rocks. But it needs a good story to go with it! To enhance it! BTW, if you have 40+ free hours, buy Suikoden 5. That is a awesome RPG. It takes place in a politically unstable nation, with you as it's prince. That is all I'm saying, but the game's story is amazing, the strategy battles are cool, the minigames are fun, the one on one duels kick ass. Most of the characters are cool. The only thing I really hate about the game is how the main character looks so girly. |
| #272IdolisFeb 21, 2009 21:42:26 | I don't play a lot of video games. The last console I bought was a playstation 2. I do play one computer game though. I started playing the diablo game on PS 1 and then upgraded to Diablo 2 when I got my computer. I am kind of old school and like the third person angle of those games. I can't wait till Diablo 3 comes out. Can't wait!!! |
| #273baneofelvesFeb 21, 2009 21:43:46 | Suikoden 5 is for PS2. Buy it. Play it. Love it. |
| #274IdolisFeb 21, 2009 21:44:58 | I might just do that. |
| #275baneofelvesFeb 21, 2009 21:49:00 | Since you stay at home, it's a great way to spend the day. It has, all in the first 5 hours (NO SPOILERS FROM ME!) Political Intrigue One on One duels (one, amybe two if you get through it fast enough) Hilarious characters (Kyle) WAR! The first 10 or so hours have a LOT of talking, but they are showing Falena's political situation, and get you immersed in it. |
| #276IdolisFeb 21, 2009 21:50:48 | Sounds cool. I might really have to give that a try next month. Thanks. |
| #277baneofelvesFeb 21, 2009 21:52:52 | you can prolly get it dirt cheap now. I got it for 35 bucks about two years ago. |
| #278IdolisFeb 21, 2009 21:54:12 | Where's a good place on-line to pick up out of date games? |
| #279baneofelvesFeb 21, 2009 21:56:29 | Dunno. Could try Ebay, or Amazon. OH! If you happen to see Suikoden or Suikoden 2 there, GET THEM! ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE CHEAP, SINCE THEY ARE COLLECTORS ITEMS! THOSE GAMES FREAKING ROCK! Stay away from 3 or 4, though. They blow. Also, you do not need to play a previous Suikoden game to understand the story of the current one. they will occasionally make references to the other ones, but that's just like an easter egg for longtime fans (like me!) |
| #280IdolisFeb 21, 2009 21:58:04 | I will take that under advisement. Thanks again. |
| #281dirtyfrankFeb 21, 2009 23:34:31 | Quit Smoking You Punk! |
| #282IdolisFeb 21, 2009 23:35:43 | Ouch Man! |
| #283dirtyfrankFeb 21, 2009 23:36:22 | So, how are things going? |
| #284IdolisFeb 21, 2009 23:39:01 | Pretty good. Could be a lot better but I don't want to get into it here. All in all I'm alright. Life goes on, right? |
| #285dirtyfrankFeb 21, 2009 23:43:51 | Well, it goes on until it of course ends. ;) |
| #286baneofelvesFeb 21, 2009 23:47:58 | but you could become a vampire or lich and cheat death.... |
| #287IdolisFeb 22, 2009 0:49:30 | Lol, sorry it took so long to respond. Had an important phone call. Yeah, being undead is cool and all for the first couple of hundred years but after that it would get boring. I mean really really boring. |
| #288dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 0:57:26 | The thing that sucks about being a vampire is the horrible sun burns. Why be a vampire if you can't get tan at the beach? |
| #289IdolisFeb 22, 2009 0:59:32 | Sunburns for vampires. Flesh falling off the bone and the stench alone would kill any visitors who wanted to play D&D with you for all the other undead. Pretty bad trade off for immortality. |
| #290dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 1:18:36 | You could always be a ghost. I don't think they smell, nor do i think they have rotting flesh that is falling off. |
| #291braveboudicaFeb 22, 2009 9:34:04 | Eleven days? How are you faring? Well I hope. They say it's thirty days to kick a habit, so you should be a third of the way there, right? I wish you great fortitude, because luck has nothing to do with it. |
| #292IdolisFeb 22, 2009 14:14:38 | Thanks for the encouragement. I screwed up a few days ago so I had to start over. Today is day seven and all is well. |
| #293dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 14:20:23 | Day 7/11. |
| #294IdolisFeb 22, 2009 14:22:50 | Slurpy. Oh, sorry, thought this was the "word association" thread for a minute there. That was pretty funny Dirtyfrank. |
| #295dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 14:24:13 | Day Quickymart Day 7 since your last smoke and and day 11 since you started this whole thing. |
| #296IdolisFeb 22, 2009 14:26:31 | I got that. I was just saying that because he possibly didn't read the whole thread and didn't see the part where I broke down and bought a pack. |
| #297dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 14:28:24 | I know you got it and I know that BraveBoudica didn't read the whole thread. I just felt like pointing it out for annoyance reasons. |
| #298IdolisFeb 22, 2009 14:31:24 | Lol, Dirtyfranks just love being annoying. You are a prime example of your species. |
| #299dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 14:32:38 | Just pointing out the obvious. |
| #300IdolisFeb 22, 2009 14:35:57 | Everything is obvious. There is no such thing as coincedence. Some people just don't get that. You are one of the lucky few who do. |
| #301baneofelvesFeb 22, 2009 14:38:56 | Dirtyfrank, stop horning in on my turf! I'm the annoying ass on these forums, YOU make the dirty (and humorous) commentary! STOP STEALING MY JOB! |
| #302IdolisFeb 22, 2009 14:41:27 | Gotta go. Just popped in to see how the threads were going. See you guys and gals in a few days. 'Til then, Peace Out. |
| #303dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 14:42:16 | Dirtyfrank, stop horning in on my turf! I'm the annoying ass on these forums, YOU make the dirty (and humorous) commentary! STOP STEALING MY JOB! Wait, you were getting paid? ![]() |
| #304dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 14:42:48 | Gotta go. Just popped in to see how the threads were going. See you guys and gals in a few days. 'Til then, Peace Out. See ya. |
| #305baneofelvesFeb 22, 2009 14:42:52 | Make sure to get Suikoden 5 or I WILL KILL YOU! I mean it! |
| #306baneofelvesFeb 22, 2009 14:44:09 | Wait, you were getting paid? yah |
| #307IdolisFeb 22, 2009 17:23:43 | Just got my hairs (hairs plural, so no jokes about which one or what not) cut. Sporting a cool flat top now. Thought I would come back and see how the gangs all doing. |
| #308dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 17:25:27 | Flat top eh? So you got a wig to cover up the balding patch? ;) |
| #309IdolisFeb 22, 2009 17:31:51 | Well not exactly. A wig just ain't my style. I would sooner polish my bald head to a mirror finish and blind people with the glare than wear a toupee. That is if I was bald. A little thin up top but not bald. |
| #310dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 17:35:59 | Is your hair flat and short, or is it long enough to be pulled? |
| #311IdolisFeb 22, 2009 17:37:44 | Flat and short. I used to wear it long but my wife prefers short hair. I don't know why. Well, at least I can still pull her hair. |
| #312dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 17:41:35 | Does she like short hair because she is a clawer and not a puller? |
| #313IdolisFeb 22, 2009 17:46:34 | Actually she kinda is but she prefers it from behind. That is all I'm saying. *Back ORCs back. Back I say. C'mon get back. Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase |
| #314dirtyfrankFeb 22, 2009 17:56:00 | So she doesn't like to see your abuse coming. It may just be better if you didn't abuse her. ;) |
| #315dirtyfrankMar 02, 2009 11:23:59 | How's the smoking thing going? |
| #316IdolisMar 02, 2009 11:32:53 | Pretty good. I faltered a couple of times while visiting home but it is all good. |
| #317dirtyfrankMar 02, 2009 11:35:17 | Faltering is for falterers. :P Well, hopefully things get all good and stuff. So, how many days are you on now? |
| #318IdolisMar 02, 2009 11:37:21 | Let me check. Oh my god, it has been two weeks already. Whoo Hoo!!! |
| #319lofgrenMar 02, 2009 13:26:54 | I had my bachelor party last night, and there was basically no way I was going to make it through that experience smoke free. It doesn't count as faltering if I have absolutely no recollection of it, does it? |
| #320IdolisMar 02, 2009 13:36:31 | No, I wouldn't think so.![]() |
| #321minja_dupMar 02, 2009 16:31:48 | Keep it UP!! Go Idolis Go ![]() |
| #322IdolisMar 03, 2009 11:43:22 | Day 15. It is getting easier. Going through some emotional stuff right now and want my old crutch back at times. I keep thinking about the day when a cigarette is a distant memory. Something I can look back on and say, "Man, those things were nasty. Whatever made me decide to pick them up in the first place?" |
| #323dirtyfrankMar 03, 2009 13:11:00 | "Man, those things were nasty. Whatever made me decide to pick them up in the first place?" Cuz they made you look cool. :P |
| #324IdolisMar 03, 2009 14:01:18 | ![]() Dammit. That's right, they do look cool. |
| #325dirtyfrankMar 03, 2009 14:10:23 | It's amazing what kinds of hell people will put themselves through just to look cool. |
| #326IdolisMar 03, 2009 14:12:52 | I should have stuck with strutting.:D |
| #327brotherjgizmoMar 03, 2009 15:06:25 | Well now that you have sex you don't need cigarettes to be cool. |
| #328IdolisMar 04, 2009 10:01:08 | Day 16. Well, the craving have gone down. Every once in a while, I still want one though. For those times, I pop another Commit and am good for a while. |
| #3291_ton_ghostMar 04, 2009 11:06:36 | I like popping back in here to see how it's going which turned to irony a week back...yeah, chest cold which turned into the, "Yeah, I'll stop again" routine. Up, down, all around, but so far so good. 1st 4 days were the easiest that I can remember in comparison to the times past. Think it was 3 till you purge the nicotine and your CO levels normalize. Physically speaking, you're normal (on a chemical level), you just gotta' begin breaking down the artificial crap and repairing avioli & bronchial tissue. Think if you quit on or before 25 years of age, you can get back to normal in your normal lifetime assuming you're not, IDK, mauled by a tiger or in a car accident. Body can take up the slack. How old are you btw? I'm venturing it's something of age and environment; now, in my 30's, more reserves of willpower (reason?) to understand what's at stake or more likely the mindset necessary to ommitt stressor triggers, etc. The envirionment I work/live in and company I keep (now) that does likewise. Don't traffic w/ as many smokers or engage in activity that would entice smoking as often. Anyway, old habbits die hard, bla bla bla.. Idolis, for you, the hard part is already long gone. Much respect. They say it's harder than quitting many hard drugs, you know? So, maybe you picked up the Iron Will feat during your last real time job/lifetime promotion ;). Just wait till your body starts rejecting the tar...big fun . Actually, you should already be in that stage. This is likely when you'll find out how much wifey really loves you. Still, everytime I see, "Day 'x', 'y'...", it makes me think of this real serious journal-esque speech. Oh, I got it; keeps me thinking of Martin Sheen's narrative from "Apocaplypse Now". There's Idolis, prowling through the jungles of urban American addiction, and yeah, Charlie's out there, sitting...waiting...smoking .Yeah, we were deep in flavor country and the sh-t went down. Lt's head opened up like a pezz dispenser, lost my lighter, ashy butts everywhere, ah, man it was Hell...:D |
| #330IdolisMar 04, 2009 11:13:53 | ![]() I think you just made me purge some tar. I'm 33 by the way. Thanks for the encouragement and posting in this impromptu journal. Apocalypse Now, too funny. |
| #331AstromathMar 04, 2009 19:03:30 | I just came across this thread. My mother quit smoking cold-turkey and never looked back. She was a 2-pack a day smoker. She was lucky enough not to even have any cravings either. She had a major reason to quit: diabetes. The smoking interfered with her medicine. She's dead now, but not because of smoking. I don't know if this suggestion has popped up (I didn't read the entire thread), but how about every time you get the urge to buy a pack (or more) to put that money in a jar/can/container, and when it is full, go take your girlfriend on a nice date. It the container is large enough, how about using the money to buy a wedding ring.:D |
| #332IdolisMar 04, 2009 19:08:24 | Thank you for the suggestion. I have already bought the wedding ring though. We are however using the money to rent my tux. Our wedding is in July and by that time we may have enough money to buy the tux out right. The wedding gown has already been purchased. |
| #333AstromathMar 04, 2009 20:09:56 | Okay how about saving up to be one of the tourists that go for a ride in the tourist space shuttle that some company is developing. I think the going rate is $95,000. |
| #334IdolisMar 04, 2009 20:14:01 | Whoo Hoo!!! Oh wait, I'm really afraid of heights. I could send my wife's dog into space though and get the puppy I want. Nah, that wouldn't work either. How 'bout I just use the money to buy the new puppy and my wife can keep her dog. Shelby is the dog's name and she is either really really stupid or really really smart, can't decide which. |
| #335baneofelvesMar 04, 2009 20:59:07 | How's it been going? I'm not gonna have to mail you that bomb, right? Smoking will only bring you pain, as I will demonstrate. |
| #336IdolisMar 04, 2009 21:15:40 | Going well, my friend, going well. Keep your bombs and Pig Pounding implements to yourself. |
| #337baneofelvesMar 04, 2009 21:20:25 | I am not a Pig Pounder! That just sounds messed up! I am a Rabid Instigating Goldfishie, A Prophet of the Wicked, and The Pit Master of Big Bend! NOT a Pig Pounder! That just sounds sick! If you continue befouling my titles, I will not tell Gogog to spare you when the domination comes, and you can burn with the rest of the heathens!!! ![]() |
| #338IdolisMar 04, 2009 21:28:18 | Okay you're not a Pig Pounder. Prophet of the Wicked, that almost made me laugh, you're not evil Bane just misunderstood. I like Pig Pounder better than Pit Master. Soooooooooooooooo... The Rabid Instigating Goldfishie ftw. Only I'm calling you Goldfish for short. |
| #339baneofelvesMar 04, 2009 21:30:23 | I'm not misunderstood, I'm evil! I have a t-shirt that says so, and my dark masters (A Band of Orcs) ALL SIGNED IT FOR PROOF THAT I AM THEIR CHOSEN! (well, as soon as I finish statting them all up for 4E I will officially be thier chosen, but I still am right now.) Now. say it with me. I'm not misunderstood. I'm evil. I'd prefer it if you called me a Rabid Goldfishie for short, but Goldfishie is fine. (not goldfish! there has to be an 'ie' at the end!) |
| #340IdolisMar 04, 2009 21:31:50 | You said it too fast. Slow down. |
| #341baneofelvesMar 04, 2009 21:35:46 | I type too fast? Are you now jealous of my nimble fingers, old one? :P very well. I. Am. Not. Misunderstood. I'm. Just. Evil. Slow enough? |
| #342IdolisMar 04, 2009 21:38:00 | Dammit Boy, my glasses fell off. Can you type that one more time for Grampa Idolis. |
| #343baneofelvesMar 04, 2009 21:40:44 | Bah! Do not use glasses as an excuse! I wear them as well, as you can see in this photo! http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=366568212&albumID=1230074&imageID=16832652 *punches Idolis in the face* I will not repeat myself! Read the previous text! It is still there! Now, while you spend the next hour doing that, I'm gonna go have some fun with your wife...:P |
| #344IdolisMar 04, 2009 21:49:13 | You just hit an old man with glasses!!! Well, I hope you're proud of yourself Boy. Beating on the elderly is a crime in some states, you know. |
| #345baneofelvesMar 04, 2009 21:51:12 | Hey, 33 is not old. If you cannot beat down a 16 year old punk, then you deserve it. :P Teh copz won't get mah! I've gots hiding placez! You check out the pic I linked? |
| #346IdolisMar 04, 2009 21:58:07 | Yeah, I did. I'm not kidding, you look a lot like me when I was your age. I don't have pics saved on my computer to prove it, but you believe me, right? |
| #347baneofelvesMar 04, 2009 22:00:22 | No proof, no belief. :P It was sooo awesome to get in that pic with El Pasty Guero. (and his mom, and another band memeber that I never got the name of. they're all really *bleep*ing cool) |
| #348IdolisMar 04, 2009 22:02:56 | I must be old. I have no idea who those people are. I thought it was halloween or something. |
| #349baneofelvesMar 04, 2009 22:05:57 | They are a really small band, just starting out. The band is Savage Machiine. Mexican Metal. Awesome. Then there's A Band of Orcs. Orc Metal. Even more awesome. I think that the Winter Death at the Mateel was the most fun I've EVER had in my life. |
| #350IdolisMar 05, 2009 14:02:43 | Day 17. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like...Victory. Sorry couldn't help but make the "Apacolypse Now" reference. Another poster put it in my head. On the no smoking front. Still popping the Commit but I am using less everyday. |
| #3511_ton_ghostMar 05, 2009 14:59:26 | Heh... I prefer, "Charlie don't surf!" or, "Don't get out of the boat!" |
| #352minja_dupMar 05, 2009 18:53:43 | I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like...Victory. Kilgore was great but you left out half of the quote including the end.... ![]() "Someday this war is going to end...." But Kurtz had the best line of the movie.... "We train young men to drop fire on people. But their commanders won't allow them to write on their airplanes because it's obscene!"simply... one.... of.... the.... greatest... movies.... ever.... ![]() |
| #353IdolisMar 06, 2009 11:11:16 | Day 18 Oh, it's a beautiful morning. The sun is shining. The snow is melting. The Commit is dissolving. My wife is happy. I'm happy. Yes, y'all. It is a beautiful day. |
| #3541_ton_ghostMar 06, 2009 13:38:00 | Day 18 Morale is up, life support is picking up steam again. Air quality has improved since our last forray w/ the enemy though the damage is significant. Damned aliens. They're insatiable. Won't quit till we're all dead I fear. Though the captain keeps talking about "it". Somewhere, out there, I know it's just itching that irrational spot in the back of his mind. I think he's getting...the space madness. He wants my covented ice cream bar... |
| #355dirtyfrankMar 06, 2009 19:39:36 | |
| #356IdolisMar 06, 2009 19:49:20 | "Idolis in the red trunks slams The Habit to the ground." ring announcer. "Oh, dirtyfrank is pulling something out of his shorts." commentator. "Someone should tell him to put that away." ring announcer. "Not that you moron, the other thing," commentator. "Oh, okay, see it now, the other thing was in the way." ring announcer. "He's handing it Idolis." commentator. "What the hell is it?" ring announcer. "It looks like a bacon powered assault rifle," commentor. "Oh the humanity." ring announcer. "I can't watch this." "Oh my God!!! Idolis just peppered The Habit with pepper bacon." commentator. |
| #357dirtyfrankMar 06, 2009 19:53:06 | What else does dirtyfrank have in his shorts? ;) |
| #358IdolisMar 06, 2009 19:58:50 | I dunno. What else do you keep in your shorts? Nevermind, don't answer that. I don't want to know. |
| #359IdolisMar 07, 2009 10:30:51 | Day 19. Please pay attention to the "No Smoking Sign" in the front of the cabin. Turn off your cellphones and place your traytables in their proper and upright position. Thank you for flying "Clean Lung Airlines". The wife is going wedding shopping and I gots the whole house to myself. Yeeeee Haaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww!!! |
| #360dirtyfrankMar 07, 2009 10:34:53 | The wife is going wedding shopping and I gots the whole house to myself. Yeeeee Haaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww!!! Good luck. Make sure you don't accidentally mess anything up. |
| #361saintkeeleonMar 07, 2009 20:33:04 | Day 19... You're doing really good! Keep it up, dude! |
| #362minja_dupMar 07, 2009 21:36:57 | Go Idolis Go!!!![]() |
| #363IdolisMar 07, 2009 23:50:01 | Thank you both. |
| #3641_ton_ghostMar 08, 2009 0:35:35 | Your mother and I are really proud of you. I know this isn't an easy thing You know, I've been thinking, I, uh, I don't really need to go out this weekend kiddo. Why don't you take the car, have yourself a time... Oh, if you could just put some gas in the tank and pick me up some Killians and a pack of Camels, that'd be great ;). Have a nice time, but not too nice; I see the way you look at that girl. |
| #365baneofelvesMar 08, 2009 16:27:44 | YEAH! KICK SMOKING IN THE BALLS! |
| #366IdolisMar 08, 2009 16:32:19 | @1 ton Ghost: ![]() @Bane: I would love to kick the Habit in the balls but I can't find them. |
| #367baneofelvesMar 08, 2009 16:34:00 | Then punch it in the throat! |
| #368dirtyfrankMar 08, 2009 21:12:06 | Hit the habit in the ego. |
| #369IdolisMar 08, 2009 21:22:59 | But what if it hits me in the leggo? |
| #370baneofelvesMar 08, 2009 21:33:07 | Then you PIMP SLAP IT! |
| #371dirtyfrankMar 08, 2009 21:37:55 | Then you PIMP SLAP IT! Which means his wife needs to powder up his slapping hand first. |
| #372IdolisMar 08, 2009 21:38:22 | Oh, I almost forgot. Day 20 The War is coming. The War is coming. Calling all able bodied adventurers, the sick, the injured, the ill-tempered, and the happy-go-lucky. Come one come all. The War is coming and Uncle Idolis wants YOU!!! |
| #373baneofelvesMar 08, 2009 21:39:26 | Which means his wife needs to powder up his slapping hand first. Correct. Idolis: this is important. Make sure that your wife does this. It's a vital step in Pimp Slapping the Habit. |
| #374IdolisMar 08, 2009 21:41:11 | My wife lubes my hand not powders it. |
| #375dirtyfrankMar 08, 2009 21:42:33 | My wife lubes my hand not powders it. So she makes you pleasure the habit rather than punish it. What a strange woman. |
| #376IdolisMar 08, 2009 21:47:38 | Not for the Habit, for her. For her. You see... well, its like this....um...Because hmmmmm......What was the question? |
| #377baneofelvesMar 08, 2009 21:50:43 | DUDE, DO YOU DO TO HER WHAT I THINK YOU DO?! EEEEEWWWW!!! |
| #378dirtyfrankMar 08, 2009 21:52:28 |
Make her happy? I think he does that. |
| #379IdolisMar 08, 2009 21:54:59 | No Bane, I do not do what you think I do. My wife is not a "loose" woman. |
| #380baneofelvesMar 08, 2009 21:56:45 | OK, good. You had me scared there. |
| #381lofgrenMar 09, 2009 1:07:59 | Then punch it in the throat! Are you a Scott Pilgrim fan, or are you pursuing this line of offense by pure coincidence? (Or perhaps both you and Scott Pilgrim refer to something else with which I am unfamiliar.) If you're not a Scott Pilgrim fan, the line in the comic is, "If your life had a face, I would punch it in the nose." (And later, same character) "If your life had a face, I would kick it in the balls." |
| #382IdolisMar 09, 2009 10:22:38 | Day 21. Three weeks without a smoke. Wow! It is a beautiful morning here in sunny Superior, WI. Lake Superior is defrosting as I post. Won't be long until the harbor is open. The ice fishermen have moved their shacks of the lake. There were only two casualties this year. A man in his 30's and his golden retriever (What an ass). Anyway, thanks to everyone for their support. Ocasionally, I still want a cig. I want to quit and intend to keep my promise to my wife and the craving is slowly but surely disapating. Thanks again and may you all have a good day. |
| #383dirtyfrankMar 09, 2009 15:24:07 | Thanks again and may you all have a good day. May you have a good day too. |
| #384baneofelvesMar 09, 2009 16:01:03 | Are you a Scott Pilgrim fan, or are you pursuing this line of offense by pure coincidence? Pure coincidence. NO idea who Scott Pilgrim is. @ Idolis: Good work! |
| #385minja_dupMar 09, 2009 21:04:25 | Go Idolis Go!!!![]() @ bane, here, have a nice big dose of . :D And a cookie. ![]() |
| #386baneofelvesMar 09, 2009 21:06:41 | Huh? But I didn't say anything perverted. Why are you giving me help? |
| #387minja_dupMar 09, 2009 21:23:28 | You didn't?
Really? Here is a double dosage of that .... ;) |
| #388baneofelvesMar 09, 2009 21:25:54 | Ohh, that. Nevermind. I accept your "help". Is it in the form of Mage Hand? :D |
| #389IdolisMar 09, 2009 21:28:16 | Damn Bane, when you come on to a girl you really come on to them.:D |
| #390baneofelvesMar 09, 2009 21:30:35 | Hells yeah! (hey, go take the quiz on my new thread I started) |
| #391IdolisMar 10, 2009 15:39:20 | Day 22. I spoke too soon. A snow storm hit today that is supposed to drop more than a foot of snow. People shouldn't live this far north. On the smoking front, alls well. |
| #392baneofelvesMar 10, 2009 15:41:51 | Great job! (HEY! TAKE MY TRUE RUNE QUIZ THAT I FOUND, FARTKNOCKER!) |
| #393dirtyfrankMar 10, 2009 15:42:06 | I spoke too soon. A snow storm hit today that is supposed to drop more than a foot of snow. People shouldn't live this far north. The isn't the worst of it. I hear that white dragons like to live in snowy areas. You should keep an eye open for them. |
| #394minja_dupMar 10, 2009 19:08:06 | .... and winter wolves... don't forget winter wolves... them is nasty.... |
| #395IdolisMar 11, 2009 15:19:37 | Day 23. The storm has passed. I'm all dugout. Going to see the minister today about my wedding. And still not smoking, wonder of all wonders. |
| #396baneofelvesMar 11, 2009 15:25:56 | stroke it! stroke it! yeah! yeah! stroke it! you stroke that ego! |
| #397IdolisMar 12, 2009 15:24:51 | Bane you could have clued me into the joke you and midnitepoison was playing. Bros before Hos, Man! Bros before Hos! Day 24. No cigs today...at least I'm trying not to smoke. Today is not a good day. No smoking! No Smoking! No smoking! I will not buy a pack of cigs today! I will not buy a pack of cigs today! My montra for the day. |
| #398dirtyfrankMar 12, 2009 15:30:41 | Seeing as how Minja (Mindy-Jasmine) in not around at the moment I'll have to sub in for her and cheer. I think I'll make a pyramid. |
| #399minja_dupMar 12, 2009 18:43:29 | Seeing as how Minja (Mindy-Jasmine) in not around at the moment I'll have to sub in for her and cheer. ![]() That was an UBER cheer! You ROCK dirtyfrank. (Just Jasmine) |
| #400dirtyfrankMar 12, 2009 18:50:41 | Minna-Jasmine, (;)) Of course I rock, but rocking the boat is all fun and games until it capsizes. |
| #401zombie_babiesMar 13, 2009 9:19:55 | And then it's fun and games that are wet. And those are even better. |
| #402minja_dupMar 13, 2009 10:40:15 | sweaty is better than wet |
| #403IdolisMar 13, 2009 12:17:41 | Ahem...I agree with Minja. Day 1. Screwed up yesterday. Was standing out side a crafts store that my wife had gone into and another guy that standing there offered me a smoke. I tried to say "No thank you" but what came out was, "Sure, thanks." I only had the one cig so I am not sure if I should start the day count over again. The cig did taste nasty and I don't think I will be having another. It was awful. In fact, I couldn't finish it for the taste and the guilty feelings I was having. My wife slapping me in the back of the head like Gibbs does Dinozo on NCIS and saying, "Di Nozo" made me laugh but the feeling behind it made me feel all the guiltier. She was angry but not enough to make a big deal out of it. This is a honest account of what happened yesterday. The next time my wife goes into the craft store I think I'll be going in with her. Even if it is does mean my "Man" Card is revoked. |
| #404baneofelvesMar 13, 2009 12:49:04 | Bane you could have clued me into the joke you and midnitepoison was playing. Bros before Hos, Man! Bros before Hos! What the hell areyou talking about? Anyways, I need to beat you over the head with my baseball bat! PAIN will make you remember that smoking's bad, mmkay? |
| #405zombie_babiesMar 13, 2009 12:53:48 |
You know, the whole fake pic thing? The one where she posted a pic of her in a costume that was actually a pic taken from a cosplay site that df discovered was taken waaaay before she said it was? You know, where he basically figured out that she was full of **** and told everybody? That whole joke? ;) |
| #406baneofelvesMar 13, 2009 12:55:23 | Huh. I missed that. OK, it's nice to know why everyone keeps asking me if I was "in on it" because I was hella confused. |
| #407zombie_babiesMar 13, 2009 12:56:57 | Yeah, you missed it. Ok, pal. You missed it just like she really is the gal in the pic. :P |
| #408minja_dupMar 13, 2009 13:00:29 | Ahem...I agree with Minja. Of course you do.... :D I only had the one cig so I am not sure if I should start the day count over again. In my opinion, day count starts over again. Sorry. But falling off the wagon here was a good experience for you, showing you how bad it really is... so this temporary hiccup is a step forward as long as it is a learning experience and motivates you to keep away from those things. The good news is that your one cigarette mistake didn't reverse the progress your lungs have made in repairing themselves. Now, time to cheer you up!!! GO IDOLIS GO!!! ![]() You can do it!!!! Kick those coffin Nails!!!! LIVEN UP THOSE LUNGS!!!! :D :D :D (did you know that smoking has been linked to impotence later in life?) KEEP THE PLUMBING PURE!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
| #409baneofelvesMar 13, 2009 13:01:14 | I WAS GONE YESTERDAY. That is why I missed dirty's discovery. Alright? But why would she go to all the trouble of this facade? It's not just on this site. Why go to all that trouble? That doesn't make any sense to me. Someone needs to provide an explanation before I go making up my mind or any stuff like that. Just gonna be neutral on the subject for now. |
| #410IdolisMar 13, 2009 13:02:31 | Previous post has been editted to comply with Mistress Minja's wishes. |
| #411zombie_babiesMar 13, 2009 13:13:49 | I WAS GONE YESTERDAY. That is why I missed dirty's discovery. Alright? People fake crap all the time, man. It's a friggin' hobby to mess with heads. df's evidence was pretty damning. He linked the site where she took that pic from. It had the dates to back up his claim that she's making that stuff up, at least. To me, it's damned sad. And pathetic. But who am I to judge? Right now, I'm enjoying using it as a running gag of my own. ;) Idolis, you suck. I'm sorry, but all this peaches an' cream happy cheerleader bullplop just isn't working, is it? So here's some tough love. You are a failure. Your collapse is just another indication that you simply don't want to actually quit. So make up your damned mind and either quit - you know, actually stop smoking - or buy a carton and kill yourself slowly. You don't seem like the kind, to me, that would like to end it all in a blaze of pathetic gasping, so let's get with it, man. Like it or not, your starting this thread has some people actually interested in your welfare. Quit failing them - and, more importantly, yourself - and man up. You have the intelligence, willpower and every reason in the world (a woman that loves you is reason enough, IMO) to do it, so quit ****ing up and be done with it. Now, that hurt me more than it hurt you. So let's not go there again, ok? ;) Unless this is an attention grab thread like those that some certain other people like to create. I don't think it is, but so help me, if you're playin' the people here I'll place a filter on your skull, set your feet on fire and smoke you 'till you're ash. Ahem. I think that's it. Have a pleasant day and a wonderful, smoke-free weekend. :D |
| #412baneofelvesMar 13, 2009 13:14:55 | can you provide a link? |
| #413IdolisMar 13, 2009 13:20:43 | People fake crap all the time, man. It's a friggin' hobby to mess with heads. df's evidence was pretty damning. He linked the site where she took that pic from. Right now, I'm enjoying using it as a running gag of my own. ;) Thank you very much, Zombie. I needed that. I offer my sincerest apologies to anyone that I have offended. It is very true that I royally up. It will not happen again. You are an awesome guy, Zombie. Even if you are joking. (Sometimes it is hard to tell.) Thanks and I will take your advice and stick to the wall of my computer room so I will see it everyday. |

| #415IdolisMar 13, 2009 13:55:22 | Thanks Minja. The cheers are indeed working. |
| #416zombie_babiesMar 13, 2009 14:37:38 | can you provide a link? It's in some thread somewhere. :P Actually, I think it's in the "What Do You Want to Talk About" thread. You could also bring up df's profile and do a post search. Thank you very much, Zombie. I needed that. I offer my sincerest apologies to anyone that I have offended. It is very true that I royally I am a terrible excuse for a human being. Keep that in mind. ;) Still, the tough love approach had to be done at some point, no? The best motivator is pain. Physical, emotional, personal - whatever. Pain is the best reminder of mistakes made and why not to repeat them. The first time you burnt your hand on a stove, did you need your family and friends to cheer you into never doing it again or was the pain good enough by itself? ;) Sometimes, being an incredibly mean, terribly blunt ******* actually pays off. |
| #417ForgemberMar 13, 2009 15:12:01 | The way I see it there are two kinds of people in this world, smokers and non-smokers, decide which one you are and then go about your business. No amount of preachy BS is gonna change who or what you are, if you like to smoke and you can afford it go right ahead. Its a choice you have to make for yourself, there are a great many things in this world that can kill you, few of them are as slow and enjoyable as smoking. |
| #418dirtyfrankMar 13, 2009 17:14:11 | I busted my but to make a pyramid and you had to fall off the wagon. At least you didn't finish and got a good smacking. I guess I can try anther pyramid. I WAS GONE YESTERDAY. That is why I missed dirty's discovery. Alright? I linked to the sites a couple days ago...I believe. |
| #419baneofelvesMar 13, 2009 17:15:34 | If so, I missed it, but I think it was yesterday. |
| #420ciaranMar 13, 2009 17:29:58 | I WAS GONE YESTERDAY. That is why I missed dirty's discovery. Alright? I'd be surprised to find out that you didn't see another photo she posted in another OTT thread. Maybe you can find it. I didnt see a resemblance. ***************** Idolis... Many people spend years breaking the habit. I've had friends who have picked it up again after quitting for over a year. I believe that you are in fact committed to quitting. I hope that you don't beat yourself up too much (thats your wife's job) but rather that you learn something from your slip. |
| #421baneofelvesMar 13, 2009 17:35:09 | I'd be surprised to find out that you didn't see another photo she posted in another OTT thread. Maybe you can find it. I didnt see a resemblance. I mayhave seen it, but forgot bout it. I'll take a look around. |
| #422IdolisMar 13, 2009 17:42:01 | Thanks Ciaran. It is appreciated. I have a little saying and it goes something like this: No one can kick me in the ass harder than I can. Your advice is well taken and may save me from a severe pain in the rear end. |
| #423IdolisMar 17, 2009 16:53:19 | I forgot about this thread. I haven't been smoking though so the day count is.... Day 4 No smoking is righteous. It is the right of all things. Smoking is the devil's habit and I will no longer dance to his tune. I might dance with his tuna but not to his tune. |
| #424minja_dupMar 17, 2009 19:52:47 | Go Idolis GO!!!:D |
| #425baneofelvesMar 18, 2009 1:13:04 | Good job. I won't have to send my two neices, Lillian and Laurelai (who happen to have levels in Assassin) to teach you a lesson. And they'll do it! They love their crazy uncle! |
| #426dirtyfrankMar 18, 2009 15:19:53 | Have you got to day 5 yet? |
| #427IdolisMar 18, 2009 15:38:49 | Yeah, Dirty... Day 5 I have found a group. We are in the process of setting up a meet and greet. I'm actually going to be able to play if everything goes well. I feel great. No smoking will make things go a lot easier. |
| #428baneofelvesMar 18, 2009 15:39:58 | Make a Human Wizard and name him Jim Darkmagic. Of the New Hampshire Darkmagics. |
| #429dirtyfrankMar 18, 2009 15:50:12 | Make sure to greet the meat while at the meet and greet. ;) GO IDOLIS! ![]() BEAT THE SMOKE STICKS! ![]() THOSE CANCER CAUSERS! ![]() GREAT THE MEAT! ![]() |
| #430stealthmarmotMar 18, 2009 15:53:12 | dirtyfrank....do you HAVE to wear the cheerleading outfit? The sweater and pom poms are one thing.... but the skirt will cause blindness. |

| #432dirtyfrankMar 18, 2009 16:34:02 | dirtyfrank....do you HAVE to wear the cheerleading outfit? The sweater and pom poms are one thing.... but the skirt will cause blindness. Sorry but I have to fill in for Minja when she ain't here. |
| #433IdolisMar 18, 2009 16:35:10 | Oh I know, Dirtyfrank. I love you too, man. |
| #434IdolisMar 19, 2009 13:49:44 | Day 6. Still no smoking. Next week is meet week. Awesome. It is a good day. That is all. This service announcement was sponsored by the Superior Police Department who wants everyone to know that killing people is bad unless those people happen to be uncool people. |
| #435dirtyfrankMar 19, 2009 13:52:23 | How many days of nonsmoking is your wife on? What exactly is meet week? |
| #436ciaranMar 19, 2009 13:54:53 | GREAT THE MEAT! I have to scrub the dirty feeling off now. |
| #437IdolisMar 19, 2009 13:57:01 | My new gaming group has decided to meet next week at a local pub. We are just going to hang out and learn a little about each other. It is going to be so cool. I have no friends up here so this is an opportunity to socialize with people with at least some of my interests. Hopefully, I make a good impression. But if I don't at least I'll have a couple of drinks. Works for me. |
| #438dirtyfrankMar 19, 2009 13:58:12 | How many people are likely to be in the group? |
| #439IdolisMar 19, 2009 14:02:02 | Well, I have only spoken to two people but one of them has, I think, three friends that also play. So it won't be a super big group but there will be enough people that I can make mistakes and learn how to better play the game without hurting everyone's good time. I'm actually worried a little bit but I'm not the only relatively new guy so I think it will be cool. I think they are willing to let a guy learn. |
| #440dirtyfrankMar 19, 2009 14:03:47 | Why you worried? Is it because it's something new for you? |
| #441IdolisMar 19, 2009 14:10:19 | Well, I've only got two really good friends. One of them is a buddy I've known since highschool, the other is his wife. My social skills aren't the best. It isn't that I can't make friends, it's that I have a little case of social anxiety. Meeting new people is hard for me. I know I'm not strange or weird but sometimes I feel like I am. So, it makes it hard to take that leap and meet people. Actually coming on this site has helped with that. I've made quite a few people laugh so I know my sense of humor is pretty good. This place has been somewhat of a confidence builder. Due in no small part to you. That conversation we had about your game when you said I should give being a DM a try was really cool. I'm not really ready yet to be a DM but it was cool for someone to say I could be pretty good at it. All I need is a little experience. So I went looking for a group to get that experience. |
| #442stealthmarmotMar 19, 2009 15:52:06 | Remeber Idolis. Smoking kills puppies. Okay maybe not the smoking, but every time YOU smoke, I kill a puppy. Oh and grats on your new group. Aw, such a cute little golden retriever puppy don't you think? *pets puppy* |
| #443IdolisMar 19, 2009 15:56:08 | Put down the puppy, Stealth and walk slowly toward me with your hands in the air. That's it. Closer. Closer. Closer Dammit. There, now stand there. *Rears foot back and delivers a devastating kick to Stealth's balls* Now don't threaten anymore puppies. I have a collie mix. Retrievers are one step below. |
| #444stealthmarmotMar 19, 2009 16:32:04 | *speaks in soprano voice* Sorry.....*GAAAASP* Okay if I kill kittens instead? |
| #445IdolisMar 19, 2009 16:35:00 | Yeah, slaughter those kittens. Damn kitten. Damn stinkin' kittens. Damn independent, catch-me-if-you-can, stinkin' kittens!!! |
| #446ForgemberMar 20, 2009 8:57:06 | So its perfectly cool to smoke puppies right? *sparks up a Terrier* Ahhhh... *coughs* Smooth... |
| #447dirtyfrankMar 20, 2009 9:16:11 | What year is the Terrier? I hear the 97 Terriers are quite good. ;) |
| #448IdolisMar 20, 2009 11:44:04 | Day 7. No smoking. Hmmm, sounds good to me. |

| #450stealthmarmotMar 20, 2009 20:46:22 | I have a friend at work who said that he lost 2 processors and a power supply due to smoking. Clogged up the fans and caused overheating. (I know what you are thinking, no they aren't robots. Im talking about them smoking next to their PCs.) Think about that one for a while and you can see where I'm going with this. Now if you excuse me I have to go chow down on some nice roast pupp....er.... pork. *makes sure he's wearing his solid steel cup* |

| #454baneofelvesMar 24, 2009 14:51:07 | Great job. You can do it, as long as you remain stubborn. Keep it up! We're all rooting for you! No, I'm not going to cheer like Minja and DIrtyfrank. I am NOT getting in that outfit. NEVAH gonna happen. |
| #455minja_dupMar 24, 2009 18:56:34 | Great job. You can do it, as long as you remain stubborn. Keep it up! We're all rooting for you! You don't need the outfit, obviously... ;) |
| #456dirtyfrankMar 24, 2009 18:57:57 | All one needs to cheer is their birthday suit. I thought everybody new this. in birthday suit |
| #457baneofelvesMar 24, 2009 19:17:23 | You don't need the outfit, obviously... ;) I guess I could cheer him on, Orc style. I'll give him a horn filled with the blood of the innocent every day he resists the temptation. |

Will you extend the same for me in my trial? I'm on a diet so no dwarf blood. Too fatty. Elf blood works. Grats on keeping your stride Idolis. Remember, every time you smoke a cigarette, Uwe Bowell gets another video game contract to make into a movie. THAT should motivate you. |
| #460IdolisMar 24, 2009 19:42:05 | Huh...Wha...Minja and Dirtyfrank in their birthday suits. Well okay, I could get used to that. *Has pleasant visions of Minja dancing in her birthday suit and tries to ignore Dirtyfrank but just can't* |

| #466stealthmarmotMar 24, 2009 20:03:29 | ummm, actually I am in a t-shirt and shorts right now, doing yoga and watching Battlestar Galactica. | #519IdolisMar 31, 2009 11:21:14 | Okay okay. Luckier than me. How's that? |
| #520dirtyfrankMar 31, 2009 11:25:14 | Lucky? Are you sayin' that your decision to move up north was all luck? I think it was free will that put you in a blizzard. :P |

| #522dirtyfrankMar 31, 2009 11:49:08 | So it was more of lack of planning than luck. |

| #532IdolisApr 03, 2009 13:20:39 | Day 18. Still no smoking and I would like to apologize to those offended by the way I have been playing in the Edition War. I realize that most of those involved in the game don't come to this thread, so I repost this in the threads relevant to the war so more will see it. I have been playing selfishly and hurting my teams cause by doing so. I may have won a lot of battles with by using my pet but it has prevented other team members from fighting in important battles and has limited their roleplay. I would like to apologize to both TA and ZB because one I had role played with but have prevented further play through the use of my pet and the other I have not been in the same place with and so it appears that I am ignoring him. I sincerely apologize and hope this very bad habit does not overflow into the games I plan to play with my new group. |
| #533baneofelvesApr 03, 2009 13:22:37 | 1) Good work at keeping up the no-smoking. 2) Everyone has mistakes they made. For example, I god-moded until everyone told me to knock it off or go away. Chill. It's just fine. |
| #534zombie_babiesApr 03, 2009 13:38:19 | Again, no need to apologize to me. It's a D&D forum RP thread. Ya' can't get serious about that or else they'll cart ya' away. And I ain'y ready for that just yet. Hell, even if I were I wouldn't go down for just that, you know? I'd do it up big. |
| #535IdolisApr 03, 2009 13:41:52 | Sorry, ZB. This is where I posted it first. I wasn't trying to apologize twice I was just trying to make sure people saw it and knew that I was changing the way I am going to be playing the game. Thanks for you understanding. |
| #536dirtyfrankApr 03, 2009 19:06:05 | Keep up the good work and keep down those urges. |
| #537IdolisApr 03, 2009 19:11:33 | Thanks DF. |
| #538dirtyfrankApr 03, 2009 19:20:00 | You're Welcome Idolis |
| #539IdolisApr 04, 2009 19:15:36 | Day 19. Still no smoking. Had a really bad craving today because my wife and I went to the casino and it seemed like everywhere I went someone was smoking a cigarette right next to. I was able to resist but the craving has stuck. I'll be okay but it sucks that I can't go out someplace without my old habit bothering me. |
| #540Ragnar_LodbrokApr 04, 2009 19:25:26 | Sounds bad. Still, a resounding :fight!: HUZZAH! :fight!: for the resistance. |
| #541dirtyfrankApr 04, 2009 19:29:08 | Day 19. One of the cool things about quitting smoking in California is that most places are non smoking or have separate areas for smoke and nonsmoke. Of course it is a bad thing as in how they limits peoples ability to do stuff they enjoy by making tons of nonsmoking laws. Smokers are kind of demonized in some places throughout California. Well, not really demonized but looked down upon as if they are lesser people. |
| #542IdolisApr 04, 2009 19:31:16 | The rest of the country is getting in line. Minnesota has no smoking in all places of business but casinos because they are owned by native americans and so aren't subject to State Law. |

I personally think that non/anti-smoking laws are a bunch of BS. I think that it should be up to businesses to decide if they want to allow smoking or not and that they shouldn't be forced into punish smokers. All anti-smoking laws are is a way to try and slowly shut down smoking companies. Yes, I do like that there are few places in California that allow smoking, but I hate that it is because the government forced it upon everyone rather than it being the decision of businesses to ban such behavior. So ya, I'm a bit mixed on this one. I support smoking when it comes to personal rights and freedoms. /![]() |

And the government is spending that money before they have it. Eventually smoker's will quit and then where would that money come from? That's kind of what California has been doing. There are some programs that get nearly all their money from taxes on things like alcohol and smoking. Every once in a while the government hikes up the price of these things to try and stop people from smoking and drinking, and so that the government program can get more money. The only thing that really happens is that lots of people quit smoking or cut back on their smoking and drinking. So then the program gets nowhere the amount of money it was promised and has to borrow from else where. Apparently law makers don't think that if you make smoking cost an arm and a leg that people will actually quit smoking. ![]() |

That misconception is the source of the problem and it goes back to smoking being addictive. It will keep people coming back until it reaches the level of severe discomfort in the finances of that individual. They're gambling that people will keep coming back. Another thing is, they can do it too because they keep raising the minimum wage and it compensates for the loss of income among most smokers for what they lost buying a carton of cigarettes every week or two. |

| #549IdolisApr 05, 2009 13:16:15 | Day 20. No smoking for Idolis today. Made it through the night and I am feeling pretty good about that. |

| #552IdolisApr 05, 2009 15:07:33 | Thanks Bane. Is your character still coming back to 3E and whose side will be on during the battle with Pride? |
| #553baneofelvesApr 05, 2009 15:13:07 | When it makes sense in RP, that is when Shade will return to 3E. However, against Pride, he will be 4E. HOWEVER, if 4E doesn't get the blade, in the RP I will explain it as Shade giving it to 3E, to show that he really isn't favoring any side. I also have been working on my character(s) for the next war. He will never switch sides. He's an escaped gladiator that lived as a slave in the 2E Republic, and now he wants to get back at them. And he has a Gnome Wizard partner called 'Twitch'. Said Wizard aspires to become The Mage King's Apprentice. So I get to play BOTH concepts that I came up with! :D |
| #554IdolisApr 05, 2009 15:25:04 | Okay, in that case. I HOPE YOU DIE!!!! Nah, just kidding. |

| #566zombie_babiesApr 06, 2009 9:56:21 | Ohio's (fairly) recently passed anti-smoking laws are part of what helped me quit. When I could still smoke inside the bar it was impossible to quit. All that booze made smoking seem like a good idea. ;) That said, I hate the laws. It's our right to do what we please with the products we buy. And it's up to the owners of a business to decide what perfectly legal activity theyll allow. I still get angry when I think about the massive tax increases on smokes and booze that paid for Cleveland's stadium and other renovation projects. We paid increased money to fund a project that immediately disallowed using the products that paid for the thing in the first place. You could smoke, just not in your seat. Cuz second hand smoke is terrible in a friggin' open stadium. Morons. You figure with all that cancer causing money they made, they'd at least allow the people killing themselves to fund the thing to kill themselves while they were in it, ya' know? |
| #567IdolisApr 06, 2009 10:43:34 | First off, Day 21. Three weeks without a smoke. This is where I screwed up before and I don't think it is going to happen again. Thank you all for your support. Ohio's (fairly) recently passed anti-smoking laws are part of what helped me quit. When I could still smoke inside the bar it was impossible to quit. I understand this statement completely and am in complete agreement. The laws and taxes are two reasons why I am quiting. It is kinda' weird that I have seen what smoking does to people. A close friend of the family has COPD but that wasn't enough to make me quit. No, it was cigarettes going up 60 cents a pack or $6 a carton that helped me decide. Funny how that worked. |

No, it was cigarettes going up 60 cents a pack or $6 a carton that helped me decide. Funny how that worked. Yep. Money is a great motivator. And you can't deny it. Health impact, otoh, isn't nearly as cut and dry. Ask George Burns. Ok, you can't. Cuz he died. Not from lung cancer and not young. He made it to 100, right? And he smoked cigars every day. Dana Reeve? Didn't smoke. Dead from lung cancer. Now we can show that smoking causes cancer and that second hand smoke can as well. In lab rats. I'm sure that smoking poses substantial health risk, but you could question the fact. You can't question the price hike, though. Funny how the addicted mind works, no? Health? I've been smoking for X years and I'm fine. Cost? I've been smoking for X years and **** that! ;) :D |
| #570stealthmarmotApr 21, 2009 20:50:41 | Hey can we get an update Idolis? You still smoke-free? |
| #571dirtyfrankApr 21, 2009 20:52:41 | Yeah, lets get an update about how good you are doing with this no smoking thingy. Also, how is your new D&D gaming group going? |
| #572IdolisApr 23, 2009 14:29:31 | Day 38. Still no smoking, though I'm a little nervous about the game tonight so I am craving hard. Things are going well. Planning a wedding, a character for a game, and deciding what snacks to buy is harder than I thought, lol. |
| #573dirtyfrankApr 23, 2009 14:32:43 | I always thought the players were suppose to bring the snacks and not the DM. |
| #574IdolisApr 23, 2009 14:38:03 | I don't know if I'm the DM or not. I'm kinda hoping someone else does it but even if I am the one, I think it fitting that I should bring snacks. |
| #575IdolisApr 24, 2009 13:19:01 | Day 39. No smoking still. The snacks were a hit. The store had a sale, buy 4 bags for $10 so we picked up some Doritos both Nacho and Ranch and Cheetos both Puffs and Crunch. Everyone dug the Doritos so the others were unnecessary but that's cool because I like the Puff's anyway and I always like to snack while sitting on my fat ass in front of the boob tube cuddle up to my girl. |
| #576stealthmarmotApr 24, 2009 14:58:22 | . The store had a sale, buy 4 bags for $10 so we picked up some Doritos both Nacho and Ranch and Cheetos both Puffs and Crunch. I miss my snacking. |
| #577IdolisApr 24, 2009 16:14:37 | Sorry Stealth, that was really insensitive of me. I was a little angry because I read some of the posts in the "......Editorial" thread. I forget the title but it was about smoking and someone turned it into a debate between smoking and being overwieght and someone said some pretty cruel things. I have always been overweight myself no matter how much I diet and exercise so it offends me when "skinny" people bad mouth those of us who are genetically inclined to be overweight. I'll never have washboard abs or lose my double chin. It is just the way my body is. Losing weight is always good but people expect everyone to look like a model simply by doing exercise and eating like a rabbit and it just don't work that way. That said, congratulations on your weight loss and keep up the good work. You have set realistic goals and you are well on your way to achieving those goals. |
| #578IdolisApr 25, 2009 10:09:07 | Day 40. Not smoking. Today is cool. My wife and her friends are going to Minneapolis to go shopping so I have the whole house to myself for the entire day. |
| #579dirtyfrankApr 25, 2009 10:22:29 | Cool. I have to work and then go run a D&D game. I should try preparing something while at work. I hope it's slow today. |
| #580IdolisApr 25, 2009 11:48:05 | Good luck with your game dirty. |
| #581dirtyfrankApr 25, 2009 23:03:59 | It was busy as hell at work. It was extremely busy. I hardly was able to get a dang thing done. My game has gone fine. |
| #582IdolisApr 27, 2009 11:41:19 | Day 41. Not smoking today but as the wedding is getting closer the urges are growing stronger. I don't need a smoke necessarily. I'm just saying every now and then, it's like, "I could really use a cig." My wife helps me alot because she simply says, "You will not be going outside at the reception to smoke. You're going to be too busy dancing." Well, on second thought, that last bit doesn't help much. I hate dancing. |

| #586KillerGMApr 27, 2009 11:49:29 | I love dancing. It's not dumb! Idolis: NP. My dad smoked for a long time when I was younger. The smoke would stay in his beard and it was gross. ![]() |
| #587IdolisApr 27, 2009 11:54:07 | I wouldn't care if I was good at it or not. I get embarassed by it. I don't like to stand out which is why I tried to convince my wife to get married at the courthouse and skip the whole formal wedding and reception thing. But, she wants a wedding and so I'm going to do it. I'm just going be really uncomfortable thinking about all the embarrassing stuff I might do. You see, I have PTSD but the things I flash back to are all things that were really embarassing to me as I grew up well into my 20's. I hope my wedding doesn't become a painful memory because of it. Like I said, the closer the wedding gets the more I just want to hide. I know it's weird because weddings are supposed to be happy and everything but to tell the truth it scares the hell out of me. |
| #588dirtyfrankApr 27, 2009 11:55:00 | Just because a person does something and enjoys it, doesn't mean that the activity is cool. It just means that they enjoy an uncool activity. It's perfectly fine if a person likes to enjoy an uncool activity. |
| #589KillerGMApr 27, 2009 11:55:58 | Just because a person does something and enjoys it, doesn't mean that the activity is cool. It just means that they enjoy an uncool activity. | #591dirtyfrankApr 27, 2009 11:58:11 | And just because someone doesn't like something doesn't make it uncool. Only a benchmark for those uncool people that like to pretend they're cool. :P |

| #596baneofelvesApr 27, 2009 13:15:36 | Is it where Skulbash became the king? Yah, I read that. You'd see me more if you didn't live in the EW RP! :P |
| #597IdolisApr 27, 2009 13:19:12 | Yeah, I still go there but I have also taken a lot of time off the boards entirely. That stuff aboutt Skulbash I wrote was after about 2 weeks of writing absolutely nothing on the boards at all. That's what I meant about not seeing you in a while. How have things been? Did you ever get that stuff sorted out with your Dad? |
| #598baneofelvesApr 27, 2009 13:21:11 | Ohh. I'm still at home. He's been behaving. I put him in his place. |

| #604dirtyfrankApr 29, 2009 11:26:24 | That is cool. Now try to make it 2 full months. After than try and make it 3 months etc. etc. |
| #605IdolisApr 29, 2009 11:28:32 | Will do. |
| #606Cpt_MichaApr 29, 2009 12:40:33 | Always set a goal for yourself that moves as you reach it. Reward yourself for reaching the goals as well. Like say on your two month no smoke anniversary go out and have a nice dinner somewhere with your significant other. |
| #607IdolisApr 29, 2009 14:58:50 | Thanks Capt. |
| #608dirtyfrankApr 29, 2009 15:01:54 | I never understand the whole goal thing. Why reward yourself with something like a nice dinner or a day out shopping when you can do that any and/or every day? There doesn't seem to be much point to it. My goal rewards are that I didn't fall of my own program and that I have set a new goal to reach. Most people don't seem to call those rewards. |
| #609IdolisApr 29, 2009 15:12:49 | I was just thinking the same thing. It also bothers me when a sports team celebrates a victory when they only did what they were supposed to do. If a power hitter hits a homerun he did it because that's his job. It isn't supposed to be a fluke. |
| #610KillerGMApr 29, 2009 15:15:05 | Well, in general, I don't do those "reward" things on a regular basis because I'm being responsible. Going out and buying myself a new outfit whenever I want can lead to financial ruin, so I usually buy clothes when I need them. Every so often, however, I reward myself with a new outfit or something like that. As for the celebration - it's totally for a job well done. I understand it. You're suppose to celebrate your victories. :P |
| #611dirtyfrankApr 29, 2009 15:17:27 | Not if the victory is the job you're being payed for. |
| #612KillerGMApr 29, 2009 15:22:32 | Sure you can. It's still a "win". I celebrate doing a good job all the time. :P |
| #613IdolisApr 29, 2009 15:22:42 | Dammit, Ninja'd Exactly. Anyway, you can celebrate your personal victories but my main problem is with sports teams, who are manned by well-paid players. They already are rewarded by thier super high wages. To then celebrate what you were already rewarded for seems like it is wrong somehow. |
| #614KillerGMApr 29, 2009 15:23:56 | Personally, I think more people should celebrate doing a good job. I think it would breed a better working environment all around. ![]() |
| #615dirtyfrankApr 29, 2009 15:34:12 | Yes you can and should celebrate when you succeed but when it is your job to not fail, thus succeed, then you shouldn't be celebrating for doing your dang job. That likes celebrating each day because your boss didn't fire you. |
| #616zombie_babiesApr 29, 2009 15:41:33 | Umm. Aren't we forgetting that sport has a li'l extra something goin' for it that your standard job does not? Namely, physical competition. Sports inspire the people playing them in ways that exceed the simple bodily response to doing a job. They do so because, well, sports ain't a job. Professional sports may pay, but that's about as close to a job as they get. |
| #617IdolisApr 29, 2009 15:44:41 | Umm. Aren't we forgetting that sport has a li'l extra something goin' for it that your standard job does not? Namely, physical competition. Professional sports may pay, but that's about as close to a job as they get. If you get paid for something, it makes it a job. Hey, I like it when my team wins and I celebrate all the time simply because I help pay for the team everytime I go to the ballpark. My entertainment is a fitting reward. |
| #618zombie_babiesApr 29, 2009 15:54:40 | If you get paid for something, it makes it a job. Hey, I like it when my team wins and I celebrate all the time simply because I help pay for the team everytime I go to the ballpark. My entertainment is a fitting reward. Yeah, it is a "job" in that it pays. But the similarities in the work world between you and LeBron end right there. ;) They celebrate because they win. We don't win anything at our jobs. What I'm trying to say is that the physical, mental and emotional requirements, responses and reactions are far different if your "job" happens to be pro-athlete. It's not silly that they celebrate. They operate in a different work world than we do. Yeah, it'd be silly if I HI-V'd a member of my dept after I fixed some sort of problem. It ain't silly to HI-V your shooting guard after he makes the game winning shot. Different worlds. Judging them - as some are attempting to do - based on criteria used in our normal work lives is goofy at best. Pro sports also require greater team chemistry than any job you'll ever work (outside of the military) and these celebrations help with team cohesion. In reality, if they didn't celebrate, they'd not be properly doing their jobs. ;) |
| #619dirtyfrankApr 29, 2009 16:01:03 | Yeah, it'd be silly if I HI-V'd a member of my dept after I fixed some sort of problem. You should try it. It can be quite entertaining to see peoples reactions. Um I don't know about everyone else, but when I played sports throughout my youth, my whole youth, I didn't cheer or celebrate wins. So yeah, I don't buy the whole "physical, mental and emotional requirements, responses and reactions" line of thinking because it didn't happen at all for me. Celebrating like such just seem immature. It of course makes sense because of how a lot of professional athletes act and behave on and off the field/court. |
| #620zombie_babiesApr 29, 2009 16:08:37 | You should try it. It can be quite entertaining to see peoples reactions. Huh. That's interesting. I'm not what you'd call a people person, but when I do well in a fight or play well in a pick-up football gaem or something, I'm perfectly ok with cheering and even physical contact (HI-Vs, etc afterward). So I guess I "get it" as far as why an athlete would celebrate for "doing his job". As a fan, I also enjoy it. They look like they're enjoying the opportunity their talents have given them. And it makes them seem more personable. Watching the Cavs this season, for example, you can see the bond between the players and it's something that's inspired the fans. If you play at The Q and you're not a Cav, you will suffer greatly for it. The fan participation helped the Cavs earn a near perfect home record, too. At the same time, genuinely sharing in their triumphs has bonded them as a team - and allowed them to play even beyond the sum of their parts. It's helped them do their job. ;) |
| #621dirtyfrankApr 29, 2009 16:16:02 | I just don't see the whole professional teams/players that are getting payed cheering when they do their job. It's like cheering for not getting fired. It like cheering for doing what you're suppose to do. To me it's like cheering after taking out the trash and your girlfriend/fiancee/wife only had to tell you once kind of thing. For college I can understand. They aren't being payed, they are on TV (for some teams that is national TV) and for most of them these are the last few years of their life that they will play...or at least play regularly on a team. So for them it can be a bit emotional and it is a sort of thing to remember. Now that is completely different from a professional sports team that is being payed to win game after game, year after year. It just seems a bit juvenile to me. *shrug* |
| #622KillerGMApr 29, 2009 16:50:54 | Well, since we're getting technical ... They're job is to play the sport. After a contract is signed, it doesn't matter if the team wins or loses, the guys are still getting paid. ;) Since it's a competative thing, whoever does their job better wins, thus the cause for celebration. So there. :P |
| #623dirtyfrankApr 29, 2009 16:57:13 | Since it's a competative thing, whoever does their job better wins, thus the cause for celebration. But it's their job which doesn't constitute cheering. One shouldn't cheer for meeting their status queue. |
| #624KillerGMApr 29, 2009 17:04:32 | But it's their job which doesn't constitute cheering. One shouldn't cheer for meeting their status queue. Reread that. Playing is their job. Celebrating when they win is like your boss telling you "good job" when you do a good job. :D |
| #625EscherEnigmaApr 29, 2009 17:20:41 | The best part of watching sports is the homoeroticism involved. Other then that it's completely 'meh' for me. But hey, butt slaps and fondling of balls. yay. |
| #626dirtyfrankApr 29, 2009 17:53:44 | Reread that. Playing is their job. Celebrating when they win is like your boss telling you "good job" when you do a good job. :D And do you quit working and celebrate for several hours every time your boss says "good job"? No. |
| #627KillerGMApr 29, 2009 17:55:56 | I also don't work two or three days a week for a few hours and make millions of dollars, so the comparison is moot. |
| #628KillerGMApr 29, 2009 17:57:49 | But this is besides the point.![]() GO IDOLIS GO ![]() ![]() |
| #629IdolisApr 29, 2009 18:01:51 | Thanks KGM. Today you get the first thank you. |
| #630KillerGMApr 29, 2009 18:02:29 | w00t!! ![]() |
| #631EscherEnigmaApr 29, 2009 18:09:34 | And do you quit working and celebrate for several hours every time your boss says "good job"? No. If it was acceptable to do so? Hell yeah. That said, different businesses have different conventions. For programmers, it is acceptable to goof off at work for a while, because code compilation takes a long time. Also, in that kind of environment, high fives once you've cracked a particular piece of code or nailed an elusive bug, HI-Vs wouldn't be out of place. In my current work environment (library) such things would be unsightly. It all depends on where you work and the social conventions for that place. |
| #632stealthmarmotApr 29, 2009 18:39:25 | At technical support, we goof off a lot when the call volume is slow. We also cuss like sailors when not on the line. On the late shift we have a 3 hour time where we get at most 1-2 calls each. Many days we get none. We do some emails, but that takes like maybe 30 minutes out of that time. We spend time throwing tennis balls to each other. I refer to it as "analog pong". |
| #633EscherEnigmaApr 29, 2009 18:43:04 | Heh. I remember when I worked tech support (it was a summer job a few years ago). I would solve a rubik's cube while on the phone. But yeah, we also goofed off when we had low call volume, though we had to keep the volume down 'cause we shared floor space with another phone-support company that was on the other side of the divider. That was a pretty laid back job when it was slow, but nerve-fraying when we were busy. |
| #634IdolisApr 30, 2009 12:47:40 | Day 44. No smoking and I want a "resident" title. Everyone else seems to have one. I was thinking "Resident Toker" but I'm not sure. Maybe Resident Stoner. Yeah, that could work. |
| #635dirtyfrankApr 30, 2009 12:53:31 | How about this? Does it do it for you. |
| #636Cpt_MichaApr 30, 2009 12:56:50 | Resident quitter in progress? Resident Other guy getting cheered on by his forumites? Resident Cheer Recipient? (though you may have to fight the Marmot over that one) The reason I suggest a reward, is because it reinforces a positive with not smoking. It's a subconscious thing. If all you associate with your attempt to quit is nicotine withdraws and a nebulous far reaching "being healthier" it might be easier for you to fall off the wagon. An immediate reward is also positive reinforcement. You'll associate on a very subconscious level that your life gets better when you aren't smoking all the way around. I'm not saying reward yourself extravagantly every day you aren't smoking. Just once in a while. It also gives you a feeling of accomplishment that "hey I went another month without smoking. I can do this... I'll go another month" and so forth. Besides your significant other would probably appreciate the attempts to quit smoking if you've rewarded his/her patience by taking him/her out. And they will probably appreciate the going out too... so you might be rewarded twice in one day. |
| #637IdolisApr 30, 2009 12:59:59 | Ahh, quitter it is. |
| #638zombie_babiesApr 30, 2009 13:12:49 | Well, I don't keep track of how many days it's been since my last smoke. If I did, I'd be constantly thinking about my last smoke, no? It's easier - IMO - to simply start fresh. It's not a matter of how many days you've not lit up, it's a matter of just not lighting up. By focusing on how long our behavior has been modified, we're still thinking about the time before we modified it. It should be irrelevent. Just quit and be done with it. I guess thinking about how long it's been since X feels like that number will end someplace - meaning, of course, that you started up with X again. I don't care about the last cig I smoked, what I was doing at the time or what day it was. I just don't smoke anymore. For me, it was easier when I didn't make a big deal out of it. Just another day ... ;) Now, all that said, I want to point out that I'm not offering any opinion on the methods any other person chooses to use. It's just what works for me, you know? If you like to or need to count the days, go for it. Whatever works. :D |
| #639IdolisApr 30, 2009 13:20:01 | Thanks Zombie. I did stop the counting for a time but then people wanted up dates on this thread. I don't mind counting the days. It shows the progress being made. I want to say that when I get married in July I'm going to have to start the count over because I am having a cigar on my wedding day. Cigs are my thing but a celebratory cigar is different and I feel it won't get me started back on cigarettes. However, I would like to know if anyone knows a particularly good brand of cigar that isn't outrageously priced. I think my budget is going to be around 25-30 dollars. |
| #640Cpt_MichaApr 30, 2009 13:22:30 | You should get the most outrageous cigar possible. Or a really really really cheap one that you won't even finish. (so you'll be repulsed at the idea of having a smoke again) |
| #641zombie_babiesApr 30, 2009 13:24:20 | I'm no cigar ace. I do agree that it would be just fine to have one on your wedding day and that the liklihood of it causing a relapse would be very remote, though. Cigars and cigs are two totally different animals. Pipes, too, for that matter. I'd probably still smoke a pipe if they weren't such a huge pain in the ass. The tobac smells better, tastes better and doesn't damage your nice pink lungs too badly. Thing is, they're a pain to use and the instance of mouth/throat cancer is higher (IIRC) than cigs. Lung cancer may kill you, but mouth cancer will take parts of your face with it before you die. Thanks, but no thanks. ;) |
| #642IdolisApr 30, 2009 13:26:10 | On my budget, $25 or $30 is outrageous but not so outrageous that it would hurt my bank balance and make unable to pay the bills. I consider it the same as going out to a ritzy restaurant and buying dinner for myself. |
| #643stealthmarmotApr 30, 2009 15:14:13 | You are planning a wedding and are concerned about one $25-$30 part of it? You sir may be missing the big picture :P Definite grats on not smoking and also grats on getting married. .....can I get a resident title too? |
| #644zombie_babiesApr 30, 2009 15:16:15 | Sure. All you need to do is pick one. Maybe something like "Resident X-Rated Avatar". :P |
| #645IdolisApr 30, 2009 15:52:48 | Stealth, for the most part the wedding is already paid for. Most was paid by her parents but we have been buying stuff for it sense the beginning of last year. The cigar is like the finishing touch. So far, for a formal wedding, we have been able to get quality stuff relatively inexpensively. Some of this is due to the place where we are having the wedding. We are getting married at a ski resort and another couple is getting married there the following day so we split the cost of decorating the hall and things like that. The most expensive thing was the dress which cost a $1000 but her parents paid for that. We're renting my tux which will be around another $200 but we won some money at a casino when I took my (soon-to-be) wife there for her birthday earlier this month. Basically, what I'm saying is we've been pretty lucky about not breaking the bank on the wedding. |

| #666IdolisJun 03, 2009 13:42:09 | Stairs? What are stairs? I use escalators and elevators that's why god invented them. No jk. Yeah the stairs up to my computer room have become a little easier to climb. If it weren't for those stairs I wouldn't get any exercise. |
| #667dirtyfrankJun 03, 2009 13:45:55 | I wish I had stairs. This way when I get bored I could walk up and down them for a few minutes to tire myself out. This way it will seem like a good idea to just sit and be lazy for a while. |
| #668IdolisJun 03, 2009 13:54:36 | I've never been a real fitness guy. I mean I wrestled in high school and was in pretty good shape back then. The last time I was in any kind of shape was when I worked in a rubber injection molding plant and had to throw around steel plates all day. Ah the good ol' days when I could actually work. |

| #674brotherjgizmoJun 05, 2009 13:20:41 | Good job Idolis, has your mouth stopped tasting like an ashtray? I'm sure the wife must be glad. |
| #675IdolisJun 05, 2009 13:31:12 | She's a reformed smoker too. So it wasn't that bad. Thanks for asking Brothergizmo. Seriously though, its the smokeless tobacco that the real pain when it comes to kissing. |
| #676brotherjgizmoJun 05, 2009 15:13:31 | Well I wouldn't know jack-**** about tobacco, I've only had to experience second-hand smoking, so I'm glad for that. And I've in the past made a show of being uncomfortable when I'm unfortunate enough to have a smoker violating my space and making me suffer his second hand smoke. Either way, glad to see you've come so far and I'll keep rooting for you. |
| #677zombie_babiesJun 05, 2009 15:16:16 | Ahh. Intolerant jerkitude for the win. ![]() |
| #678brotherjgizmoJun 05, 2009 15:39:40 | I consider it jerkitude when in a country where you are only allowed to smoke in private places, you decide to poison everyone around you in VERY public places. Especially so when done in places you can;t leave easily such as long lines. If they followed the law, if they listened when you said "hey, I'm asthmatic could you please not smoke in a place you are not allowed to?". Then they would have to listen to the very common custom over here of trying to make them uncomfortable. Heck, I've seen people cut their toenails in front of smoker at an airport in order to gross them put and make them stop (they were inspired by a successful AD campaign, but hey, it worked). And what is there to be tolerant of? THey are slowly killing themselves, their children, and everyone around them. |
| #679EscherEnigmaJun 05, 2009 15:42:24 | Because nothing says kindness and generosity like intolerance of the flaws of others. |
| #680zombie_babiesJun 05, 2009 15:43:11 | I consider it jerkitude when in a country where you are only allowed to smoke in private places, you decide to poison everyone around you in VERY public places. Uh huh. "I don't like what you're doing, so I'm going to act like an *******. That makes me righter and you wronger". Got it. ;) Look, if they're doing something actually illegal (I don't know where you live or what the law is) it does not give you the right to behave like an angry child towards them - nor does it justify this behavior. Fortunately, there is an adult option available - report them to the authorities. Deciding to be a dick, no matter how justified in doing so you may feel you are, still means that you're acting like a dick. On purpose. Don't be a dick. |
| #681brotherjgizmoJun 05, 2009 15:51:20 | Uh huh. "I don't like what you're doing, so I'm going to act like an *******. That makes me righter and you wronger". Got it. ;) Fair enough, and I don't claim rightness in what I do. But you must admit that there are times when annoyance gets the better of you and you feel the need to slap someone. I do not actively look for smoker to deride, mainly because there are smokers in my family, I know that it is a vice with a cold hard grip that is difficult to break. But there are situations, mainly those two (airports and long lines where the only way you can get away is by reaching the end of the line) where I feel offended that I have to risk my health because of the carelessness of others. And often times you do have to try to defeat them at their own game when listening doesn't work and the police (already busy with the severe drug and gang problem) can't be bothered (or so they say, though having friends in the force I'm forced to give them the benefit of the doubt) with 'trivial issues'; and often say, solve it yourself. And I feel pretty strongly about this issue, I've seen my cousins' respiratory system destroyed by the mere fact that they have smoking parents. I do see smoking (which is, thankfully practically non-existent in public anymore where I come from) as a serious health concern that should be treated as such. |
| #682EscherEnigmaJun 05, 2009 15:55:34 | But you must admit that there are times when annoyance gets the better of you and you feel the need to slap someone. Yes, and as a mature adult who highly values personal freedoms, I ignore that impulse. |
| #683zombie_babiesJun 05, 2009 16:00:11 | Fair enough, and I don't claim rightness in what I do. But you must admit that there are times when annoyance gets the better of you and you feel the need to slap someone. Yeah, everybody snaps occasionally. I get that. It's something to watch, though, cuz it makes us less than we can be. Keeping that stuff in check is what keeps you from dropping to - or below - the level of the originator of the annoyance. |
| #684brotherjgizmoJun 05, 2009 16:02:52 | You seem to think I actively act as I said before. Sorry I can't be perfect. I've made a statement about something I haven't done in at least half of my current life and you seem to imagine I do it every day. How about calling me intolerant and other nice words you try to get to know me? If you tell me about a time in your past you got drunk or did some other *******y thing can I extrapolate that you do it frequently? I was in a line, with my sister, both of us asthmatic we couldn't leave and this idiot kept smoking right into our faces, we asked him to stop and he didn't so we started to cough and make comments about smoking, he didn't stop, eventually the crowd began to join into our ploy until the person grew so uncomfortable to put his cigarette out. I think that at the moment I was justified. I go to an university that does allow smoking in campus (outside of class), I don't go coughing into their faces because the space is much more open and less oppressive. I'm generally a mild-mannered person (most people see me as shy) and don't look for confrontation unless I feel deeply offended, and most of the time I like to usurp rather than confront because unless it is a debate the first one comes easier to me and often times works better. |
| #685zombie_babiesJun 05, 2009 16:06:11 | Your presentation led me to my reaction. If it's not something you do all the time and it's not something you advocate, why do what basically amounts to bragging about it on a message board? EDIT: You also used the word "usually" indicating that you do, in fact, engage in this practice more times than not. Don't fault me for your faulty presentation, k? |
| #686brotherjgizmoJun 05, 2009 16:14:53 | It was a passing statement, and I'm not blaming you for anything for what I wrote. I just feel a little bit attacked by people who do not know me, especially when I actively try to be well behaved, often to the recognition of those who know me. Ironically, seeing that what led to this was my talking about abrasive actions, calling me a jerk isn't the best way to get your point across if you want to have thoughtful discussion. Either way, I edited it, I hope it's less offensive now? And can we put this past us? |
| #687IdolisJun 06, 2009 20:30:21 | Um, Day 80. Okay, Brothergizmo, I'm sorry you have had bad experiences with impolite smokers. I am a smoker but have never been impolite to anybody. Even when outside, say at a bus stop, I asked the people around me if they minded if I smoked. Also, I'm a little unsure but I am pretty sure that there has never been a documented instance of lung cancer from second hand smoke. There is risk to a fetus if a mother smokes while pregnant and I'm sure that smoking aggravates your asthma but I am also pretty certain that so does dust and pollen and any number of other environmental hazards. My parents smoked, in fact my whole family smoked at one time or another and according to you I should be dying of lung cancer and I'm not. Relax buddy, I'm not blowing smoke in your face. And to my knowledge neither is anyone else on this forum. Excuse the rant but I catch hell from two directions and I'm getting tired of it. You see, I'm a little overweight and I am trying to quit smoking and everywhere I turn I see someone ranting about how my fat ass or my cigarettes affect them. I don't go to places to hassle people with my smoking or eating habits. Again, if this post in any way is offensive to you, I humbly ask that you forgive me but I've had enough. |
| #688sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 06, 2009 21:22:41 | Excuse the rant but I catch hell from two directions and I'm getting tired of it. You see, I'm a little overweight and I am trying to quit smoking and everywhere I turn I see someone ranting about how my fat ass or my cigarettes affect them. Who's giving you a heard time about your weight affecting them? At least smoking there's second hand smoke, and some people have other lung problems and stuff, but weight? What now? That's beyond BS. |
| #689IdolisJun 07, 2009 19:44:33 | Day 81. @ Sier It hasn't happened on here in a while but there are people out there that say they feel nautious or some such thing when they are around fat people or that people are so over-weight that they are so unappealing to watch eat at restaurants. Or go on and on about having to sit next to these people in a movie theater because they actually eat popcorn and have a soda while watching a movie. Then there's the people that go off about how because they have had experiences with impolite smokers and think, "All smokers are the same. Rudest people in the world if you ask me. Blowing their smoke in my face, who do they think they are," as if we're all like that. Anyway, I got this all off my chest yesterday. I am just answering your question about who does the talking about weight and giving examples about the things I've seen. Before you ask, yes there have been posts on this forum complaining about heavy people. |

| #696MechaPilotJun 07, 2009 22:22:53 | ...I guess I am an attention ho... You just like your attention with a little fur on it is all. |
| #697EscherEnigmaJun 07, 2009 22:29:48 | I don't know, he likes my attention, and I'm pretty sure that attention is kinda bitter and bites a little. No fur at all. Well, unless you count my epic moustache, but that's not really "fur" per se. |
| #698sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 07, 2009 23:25:07 | ...I guess I am an attention ho... Yes, but you are inexperienced still, young padawan. :D LOOK @ ME - IM AZN GRL :D See how well that works? |
| #699dirtyfrankJun 07, 2009 23:25:59 | How well what works? :P |
| #700sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 07, 2009 23:30:34 | waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
| #701EscherEnigmaJun 07, 2009 23:36:13 | :D LOOK @ ME - IM AZN GRL :D "AZN"? I don't get that part. And sides, if Pig wanted us to believe he was a girl, he's have to start a new account and not admit he was pig. Or come out about his gender identity disorder. But I don't see either of those happening soon, so I doubt that particular attention-grabbing technique is right for pig. |
| #702pigknightJun 07, 2009 23:37:07 | *Puts on drag* Ummm...I'm lonely and like experimenting with other girls...ummm...sure... AZN = asian by the way |
| #703dirtyfrankJun 07, 2009 23:37:20 | AZN = Asian |
| #704EscherEnigmaJun 07, 2009 23:38:14 | AZN = Asian ... this is one of those "internet" things that I don't want to know about, right? |
| #705pigknightJun 07, 2009 23:38:53 | ... this is one of those "internet" things that I don't want to know about, right? No, not really. It's just an abbriviation (I know I spelt that wrong). |
| #706MechaPilotJun 07, 2009 23:40:19 | Yes, but you are inexperienced still, young padawan. I'm not AZN, or a GRL, but I feel like a girl sometimes. Does that count? |
| #707pigknightJun 07, 2009 23:41:12 | I'm not AZN, or a GRL, but I feel like a girl sometimes. Does that count? I've seen every episode of Gilmore Girls, if that doesn't make a guy a girl, nothing does. |
| #708MechaPilotJun 07, 2009 23:43:18 | I've seen every episode of Gilmore Girls, if that doesn't make a guy a girl, nothing does. Gimme a hug sis. |
| #709pigknightJun 07, 2009 23:44:25 | Gimme a hug sis. *Hugs* Wanna have a pillow fight in our underwear and charge $19.99 for a copy? ![]() |
| #710EscherEnigmaJun 07, 2009 23:50:40 | *Hugs* I think that, whatever way your tastes may go, that statement proves you're a guy. Maybe a guy in a pretty pink dress with curlers in your hair, but still a guy. |
| #711MechaPilotJun 08, 2009 0:06:12 | I think that, whatever way your tastes may go, that statement proves you're a guy. Maybe a guy in a pretty pink dress with curlers in your hair, but still a guy. And if we're just cool with the pillow fight but not the other part? |
| #712sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 0:36:21 | straight men don't make sense, EE. They never will ![]() |
| #713dirtyfrankJun 08, 2009 0:39:17 | Yeah!!! ![]() |
| #714sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 0:40:48 | LIke the guy - I totally gave him the "I'm obviously attracted to you" look. no response.... |
| #715dirtyfrankJun 08, 2009 0:47:07 | Did you give the Guy the "I'm obviously attracted to you" accidental touch or the "I'm obviously attracted to you" speech? |
| #716sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 2:02:26 | I share food... and that means a lot coming from me. |
| #717dirtyfrankJun 08, 2009 2:05:10 | Did he seem to not notice or did he seem to not respond? There is a difference and if it him not responding then he's probably shy and doesn't know what it is he should do. Ask your self "does he have much or any experience with women?" |
| #718EscherEnigmaJun 08, 2009 2:13:05 | straight men don't make sense, EE. They never will Eh. It's not a "straight guy" thing, nor a "straight", nor a "guy" thing. It's a human thing. Humans don't make sense, and never will. LIke the guy - I totally gave him the "I'm obviously attracted to you" look. no response.... Uh, look. I know you have self-esteem issues of your own but... seriously. We all know this song and dance... if you like the guy and not sure how he'll respond, don't keep beating around the bush. Just ask him out. Sure, maybe he'll say no. But he might say yes. |
| #719sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 2:28:47 | yeah, I had to stop myself again and be like "what the heck? stop having this conversation on the forums!!!!" so, moving on... |
| #720dirtyfrankJun 08, 2009 2:33:26 | What conversation on the forums? Cheering on Idolis? Go Idolis!! ![]() Dating advice? If you're going to talk about The Guy then you should probably talk about him in your thread unless he has something to do with quitting smoking. :P |
| #721sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 2:50:58 | Yay Idolis YAY!!!! Yep. But we aren't talking about that here anymore. YAY IDOLIS!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: |
| #722zombie_babiesJun 08, 2009 9:24:03 | Who's giving you a heard time about your weight affecting them? At least smoking there's second hand smoke, and some people have other lung problems and stuff, but weight? What now? That's beyond BS. Well, it's not BS. The impact upon others is not a physical one, but being overweight does factor into others' lives negatively in another way. If you've ever had to fill out an insurance application (health, life, home - yes, home), you'd have noticed that you were asked whether or not you were a smoker. This is so the insurance company can charge you more. Cuz you'll cost them more (while that's not a guarantee, they don't play when it comes to money). They also charge everybody a bit more to cover smokers. Since it's not cool to openly discriminate against the overweight, they don't charge ya' extra when you apply. They charge everybody more. Things do seem to be changing, though. When my fiancee and I applied for home/life insurance, they took blood samples (cholesteral check) and asked us our weight. So, it seems that eventually the overweight will face the same sort of discrimination issues in the open that smokers do right now - at least on the insurance front. ;) Good to know, right? Oh! In case you're wondering, they did (of course) ask us if we smoked. And if you're a smoker and plannin' on just fudgin' it when the time comes, don't. They swab your mouth to make sure you're not a closet smoker. Not that there's a need for anyone to be a closet smoker ... oh wait ... To bring this all back 'round to where it needs to be, I'm proud of you Idolis. Planning a wedding has got to be seriously stressful. We all know what smokers do when stressed and you have managed to avoid falling back into the habit. That's some damned good news that should have you feeling confident about your commitment to quit. Just stay vigilant. I still find myself wanting to light up now and again. It's much easier, but it's also not over. I don't think it ever will be totally finished, either. Hang in there. You're doin' a great job. :D |
| #723EscherEnigmaJun 08, 2009 10:47:50 | ... Wow. You make me really glad that when I signed up for my current insurance plan the extent of the "interview" was just "fill out this application, your coverage will start in January." Yay for employers with generous benefit packages. |
| #724zombie_babiesJun 08, 2009 11:37:19 | ... Wow. You make me really glad that when I signed up for my current insurance plan the extent of the "interview" was just "fill out this application, your coverage will start in January." Yeah, I've had some simpler ones like that. Most seem to ask whether you smoke or not, though. The house thing was odd. We had to have the agent dude meet us so that he could go through all this stuff an' ask all these questions an' take blood - and swabs to be tested for evidence of a smoking habit. Lots of fun. |
| #725IdolisJun 08, 2009 21:54:36 | Day 82. Thanks folks the encouragement helps. And Zombie, yeah the urge is still there. I was out the other day doing some wedding shopping and I stepped outside to get some air. I guess it all of a sudden hit me that my Mom won't be at my wedding and it got me a little down. Anyway, while I was outside another guy was there and offered me a cig. I took it and almost had it to my mouth before I realized what I was doing. I gave the cig back to the guy but I have to say that if I had had a lighter with me I probably would be talking about Day 1 instead of Day 82. |
| #726MechaPilotJun 08, 2009 22:06:46 | I'm glad fortune helped you stay on the wagon. It seems, more often than not, that fortune conspires against us when we're trying to better ourselves. Congrats on day 82. |
| #727dirtyfrankJun 08, 2009 22:23:49 | It bothers me when people start offering me cigs. Especially because I don't smoke. What would make some random stranger think that I smoke and that I need a cig? I've never understood it. |
| #728ForgemberJun 09, 2009 5:07:15 | I wish more random people offered me cigarettes, not bloody likely with how much they are taxed. I only offer my friends cigarettes and even then I wait till they quit first. ![]() Keep up the good work Idolis, smokers like myself are a dieing breed. ![]() |
| #729zombie_babiesJun 09, 2009 8:25:58 | I gave the cig back to the guy but I have to say that if I had had a lighter with me I probably would be talking about Day 1 instead of Day 82. Yeah, that's why one of my first offerings of advice to you was to toss all of your lighters away. :D It was always easier to smoke again when I had a lighter around. That's why I got rid of 'em. The occasional close call is a good thing, too. It keeps ya focused. ;) It bothers me when people start offering me cigs. Especially because I don't smoke. What would make some random stranger think that I smoke and that I need a cig? I've never understood it. The reason is a simple one. Smoking is very much a social habit - 'specially now that smokers have been legally forced into sharing the same small spaces. It's an easy way to start up a conversation while also occasionally revealing a common interest/habit. I even knew a guy that purposefully never carried a lighter. Always smokes, but never a light. He used his lack of fire to meet people. It worked quite well for him. People offer smokes to strangers to be courteous and to strike up some sort of communication. Not much else to it, IMO. Now I never offered people smokes when I was still smokin'. But that's cuz I hate people and don't really want to talk to any of them that I don't already know. ;) |
| #730MechaPilotJun 09, 2009 15:54:23 | Yeah, that's why one of my first offerings of advice to you was to toss all of your lighters away. :D It was always easier to smoke again when I had a lighter around. That's why I got rid of 'em. The occasional close call is a good thing, too. It keeps ya focused. ;) It's been my experience that only 2 types of people keep lighters on them... smokers, and pyromaniacs. I don't know how personal Idolis' relationship with fire is; but since he doesn't wnat to be a smoker anymore, getting rid of the lighters sounds like a great piece of advice. |
