Here's a weird one... when I use shaving cream and your typical safety razor, I cut myself, every time. Little nicks all over my face. So I tried using just plain soap. Better, but still always bleeding. Now I just splash a little water on my face and shave away, and I never cut myself. Weird.

That's… preposterous. I use a gel on the rare occasions that I shave and it makes it almost impossible to cut yourself. I mean, you would really have to try to draw blood because of the way the gel coats your skin. My roommates who were all soap–and–water guys used to make fun of me for it.
Safety razors help a lot in avoiding cuts and I've gotten away with just water before, but the shave was not nearly as smooth as with the gel, and the razor burn was worse.
Solution: beard.

If it wasn't for my cheapness/stubborness I would have done like most people and just got a new one when the guard started breaking away, but I'm hard-headed like that.

Me, I am still at age that my facial hair is not good at all and I don't need to shave often. I don't use an electric razor and have experienced a few cuts.

Every job I've had since high school, I got hired with a beard, and the first thing they said was, "How would you feel about shaving your beard?" And I said, "Fine." And I shaved my beard.
Then I didn't shave again.
I recently grew some facial hair out, though. I still hate shaving even though it's not nearly as bad as it used to be. If I could grow a full beard, I would. I'd keep it trimmed, but trimmin' stuff is much better than shavin'. Shavin' sucks.

In Canada (or the US), I wouldn't be concerned about beard/no beard. But this ain't either of those places, and standards are different.
See my beard is like steel wool. I get one shave out of a blade, max. If I've let my beard grow for more than 3 or 4 days I need to replace the blade half way through.

I'm a prissy prick though, I like my Gillette Fusion Pro. Those heads last months, and they stay very sharp, with a fresh & clean cut everytime. Until about the three month mark. They are also bloody expensive, and I accept no substitutes!
These work just as well. Actually the shave is a little closer. Just chuck the sucker after the third time using it. Or relegate it to shaving other places which have skin that isn't nearly as fussy.
I shave once every three days there abouts. So each razor lasts like 9 days. Plus any body shaving duty it gets before finally getting chucked.
But I don't wanna!
Then go out and buy your replacement blade and spend way too much money already :-p
