Once I dreamed that my wife (then girlfriend) had gone off birth control without telling me, and had been skillfully hiding her pregnancies for years, giving birth on her own in secret, and stashing the stillborn children under the floorboards. I discovered this when the zombie babies started crawling out from under the floor for revenge.

This is the most terrifying dream I have ever had.

This other time I dreamed that me and a buddy had driven up to the mountains to rescue our friend who had taken up with a cult. We found him, but during the escape our van was damaged and we tried to run away on foot. It was night in the mountains, and we were very unprepared, so we were afraid we might freeze to death.

Then we came upon another group of people who'd settled in the mountains. They lived in tents and clay huts that had been built on the grounds of one of those soulless office parks you accidentally end up in when you miss your turn on the highway, except that there was no highway (or anything) nearby. The Big Man of the tribe was a short old woman who looked like it would take a wrecking ball to knock her over. She said we could stay through the night as long as we didn't go into any of their secret places. Through the windows of the office buildings, we could see everything was covered in dust and there was no electricity, but otherwise they looked like they had just been suddenly abandoned mid-morning on a Wednesday. The tribespeople never went inside and behaved like they did not notice the buildings at all.

The tribe spent all night taking turns dancing around a bonfire and drinking a clear alcoholic drink. I drank some and got wasted, and then I got separated from my friends. I wandered into one of the huts and discovered a dirt tunnel that led underground. I followed the tunnel for a long time, in pitch darkness sometimes and others lit by candles, until I came to a hallway with fluorescent lights. The hallway continued around the corner, but I got distracted by one dimly lit room. Inside there were lots of people in robes surrounded by glow from dozens of monitors. There was a pale boy sitting at a desk in front of an old Macintosh. One by one the people unhooked all of the white wires that connected the rest of the room to the apple, including the mouse and the keyboard. Instead of normal connections like USB, the wires all ended in a long thin needle. The boy leaned back in the chair and the people gathered around him. They slipped the needles into his veins and the wires turned out not to be wires at all. They were tubes that turned black in the monitor light as his blood flowed into the computers around him. When they came to the last wire he leaned his head back and they slipped it directly into his cornea. The mouse began moving on its own, and I panicked and ran back outside as fast as I could.

The old woman knew I had been into their secret place, so she said that we had to die. Her beautiful daughter plead mercy on our behalf, and the old woman said that we could escape death by surviving an ordeal, but the daughter had to come with us and would also be banished from the tribe. The ordeal was to walk through one of the office building lobbies, from one set of doors straight through to another. Her daughter was very afraid.

We went inside and started walking. The walls inside had many paintings, all of humans being mutilated by horrible, impossible methods by invisible torturers. If you looked at them for longer than a split second, they would start to writhe and groan in agony. We knew that there was somebody else in the building with us. We ran to the opposite side as fast as we could and luckily we made it out. The sun was coming up and our van was sitting there in the parking lot, and worked fine even though we had abandoned it at the cult compound after it broke down. We climbed in and drove down off the mountain.

This was the most beautiful dream I have ever had.
