I'm a homosexual who isn't gay, an agnostic that doesn't have a chip on his shoulder about religion, a college student that isn't part of the college student crowd, a gamer that has the rules understanding of the rules lawyer but the interest in RP typical to the, well, roleplayer. I wear cowboy boots because I think they're comfortable and could look like a high school student if I shaved my beard, my personal politics are unhinged on many issues from my registered party, I just like them a little bit better then the other guys. I'm an American that has read quite a bit about world history, a computer programmer that writes and draws. I'm considering going to grad school to learn to be a librarian as a career (ain't that odd all on it's own?). Um, I can speak enough Spanish to get by, and enough that if I ever spent a few weeks in a Spanish speaking country without other English speakers around I would pick up the rest pretty quickly...

Oh yeah, and I think I'm better then everyone else, but have decided to go with noblese oblige instead of condescension. I enjoy teaching people new things, but like it even more when they can teach me something new in-kind.

Talented is strange, but that wasn't really the point. Everything I listed in that is strange for the group I identified myself as. Well, except for the language thing. That's actually true of most people once they have a basic understanding they'll pick up the rest if you throw in them into a deep-immersion situation. you don't design landmines to blow someones nuts off. you design them to either kill outright or to wound the person badly. Why you would want to kill should be obvious (it takes a soldier out of action, permanently) but the wounding isn't quite so obvious...

For one thing, it's easier, and for a second, it forces his¹ friends/fellow wolsiders to carry and support him as they get back to a safe base, slowing the entire group down and putting them at an even bigger disadvantage when you try to ambush the group later on then if you had just killed the soldier out right.

Exactly. Most landmines are designed to maim for that reason. Ideally, you'll maim the guy so badly that even though two of his pals evacuate him, he still dies. It's also ok to vaporize a couple of 'em, too. So long as you wound some as well.

Did you know that there are two main types of grenade? Offensive and - believe it or not - defensive.

Anti-personel mines have fallen out of fashion and have been largely replaced by anti-armor mines simply because you take the vehicles out and injure or kill the occupants. Why kill or injure one or two when you can kill or injure six or more?

Umm. There is no such animal. They are currently phasing in some rather large chemical lasers, though. Some on ground vehicles for blowin' up suspected IEDs and another in a converted 747(?) to handle ICBMs. Mid-air.

I guess it depends on on what battlefield the fight takes place. In Iraq the troops are spread out far from base so traveling is done by vehicle.

In Viet Nam, it was in a jungle and vehicle transport was done mostly by helicopter so the jungle was filled with anti-personel mines and booby traps to limit movement after the insertion.
