I Have Asperger Syndrome

I have Asperger Syndrome (AS for short).  Sometimes in these forums I get dumped on because of it.  It is mostly a social disability, but there are other aspects as well.  One of them is being literal.  I will almost always take the most literal interpretation of what's being said.  In the forums, when the spelling doesn't coincide with the word being used, it throws me for a loop.  This happened in the Q&A forum just recently.

Another aspect is when my mind grabs onto something, it just won't let go.  Remember the Druid Wild Shape power question in the Q&A forum?  Eventually, I had to stop participating because I just couldn't see the other person's point of view.  There are times what I see as RAW is not the same as what other's see as RAW.

A third aspect is I take negative criticism very personally, even if the negative criticism is not directed at me, but at another forum participant if the participant's views closely mirror my own.

Please try to understand that I'm not trying to be condesending or rude and I apologize for seeming to be that way.  That is nowhere near my intent.

If you see me participate in a thread and it looks like I am saying something that seems to be rude or I am being OCDish about a topic, please bring it to my attention in the most non-rude way as possible.  If that is done, I'll apologize and leave the thread because my views is hampering the discussion.

In the Q&A forum, it was brought to my attention, but the responses were very rude and to me they were very condesending.

All I'm asking for is understanding of my disability.  You don't need to walk on eggshells.  Just tell me straight without being rude if I'm doing something socially wrong.

Hey, we have weirder people here. Feel at home ;)

Also, someone talked about Asperger's before, something about always wearing sweatshirts? Was it you? I think that person had an Ajani avatar.

Astromath, this is like the second time you start this thread in the OTT in a year.

Is there something you'd like to tell us?

So Astromath doesn't get confused.

Double Asperger's?

Anyhoo, it's only natural to take negative criticism personally.  I did that for a long time.  Until I didn't (er, mostly.  I still do from time to time.  Cuz it's natural).  See, I finally understood that it's me that decides what bothers me or not - not some outside force, not some condition, not my upbringing.  Me.  So ... yeah.

Anyhoo, the request is reasonable.  Hopefully people will listen.

I didn't realize that I had already started a similar thread.  I completely forgot about it.

This reminds me of one of my favorite jokes:  I forgot that I was absent-minded.
