No. I just like the feeling of walking around barefoot... or as close to barefoot as possible while still having some kind of protection on my feet. The shoes I wear now (look at my avatar) give you that barefoot feeling. The ones in these pictures are even closer to barefoot.

I think it varies alot depending on how its manufactured. I dont think it would be breathable at all, but as for the protection, they seem to be more for like diving and water sports rather than walking around?

I just might. I can't wear regular shoes anymore. Well, I can, it just isn't fun. The feeling of walking around barefoot is awesome. The shoes I wear now make running fun. The only concern I have is that these silicone shoes could be easily pierced. The vibram shoes I wear have a very thin sole made out of Vibram performance rubber. While it is very thin, it gives awesome protection. I stepped on a nail a while ago. The nail didn't go through. It was partially because of the rubber, and partially because of the ground feel you get with these shoes. I felt a dull pain on my foot and my foot flexed around the nail a bit. It is probably what stopped me from putting my full weight on my foot.

The Vibram Five Fingers I own range between $85 and $125. I have several pairs.
A buddy of mine got the Vibram Five Fingers like you have in your avatar, and he seemed to like them alright.

That is my other concern. I've read that they have holes strategically placed on or near the arch and in the toes to allow for sweat drainage. As for the running on the track only; I find that once you learn how to run properly, you can pretty much run on any terrain without hurting yourself.
I'm not to knowledgeable about silicone and its properties, so I wonder how durable can it be made to be?
it can withstand temperatures up to a couple hundred degrees usually and its durable usually lol they might have some secret to make it tougher.

Depends which ons you get. The KSO TREK and the KSO FLOW are the only two that are warm. The FLOW can actually handle pretty low temperatures. It is supposed to be used in temperatures ranging between 20 and 40 degrees if I am not mistaken. I think they may be too warn for Florida winters. The TREKs are made out out kangaroo leather and from what I hear, they are good for the kind of "winters" we get here in Florida. You can always get a pair of toe socks to go along with them if you want it to be warmer. The other models are not very warm. The upper fabric is thin and very breathable.
Chances are, if you get one pair, you'll end up getting a second and a third...
You could get the TREKS when you want a pair of warmer shoes, and another one when you don't.
They are addictive.

You could definitely use the Vibrams (any model except for the leather Treks) in the pool. The KSOs would probably be the best. You could definitely use them for around the garden. The feeling of walking around the grass and stuff is pretty cool. You may want to get either the Bikilas or KSO TrekSport. Some people complain about the seems on the inside of the regular KSOs. I haven't had a problem with it. I don't feel any of the seems, but some people have said that they get blisters from them. Then again, most people buying these and getting these blisters from the inner seems are also long distance runners that train for marathons. That may have something to do with it.
The Bikilas have awesome stitching. There are no seems on the inside of the shoes. The TrekSports are also seamless.
What kind of work do you do? I love wearing mine to work... and school.
An alternative would be tabi, esp. jika-tabi, which are frequently worn in Japan for outdoor work. I might order something like that for myself, maybe even see if there are tabi designed for swimming...cool!
BTW, I work as a clerk at a store, and there are ample opportunities for plastic and glass bottles of various sizes to come crashing down and ka-wush my widdle tootsies! That's my concern, just so you know.

One of the concerns that I have read about in the comments sections is that the four smaller toes don't really work well with individual "fingers" of the shoes; it can be done, but it does take some getting used to.
It is a bit ruff to put on the VFFs the first time. The toes should go in fine... unless you have mutant toes. Some people have webbed-toes... others have other odd foot anomalies. Funny enough, you could find ways to modify the Vibrams for people that have webbed-toes. In any case, you should be able to get the toes in just fine and with minimal effort.
An alternative would be tabi, esp. jika-tabi, which are frequently worn in Japan for outdoor work. I might order something like that for myself, maybe even see if there are tabi designed for swimming...cool!
If you are thinking of tabi-boots, may I suggest ZEM GEAR. They have some pretty good stuff. You should be able to fit those pretty easily.
