| #1Robin_HoodlumApr 25, 2010 15:10:29 | I'm done DMing RPG's. As some of you know, I stopped playing WotC games some years ago, but was still playing RPG's by another company, even playtesting some stuff that should be coming out late summer/early fall. But I am done with it all. I'm simply burned out... on all of it. Some of it has to do with my age and lack of available free time, but even when I have time, I just don't want to do it. *shrug* I have no more interest in it... no more enjoyment... it seems more of a chore and less like fun... Well, at least I still have my wargames! |
| #2cloqwurkApr 25, 2010 15:12:31 | Everyone has their own threshold of enjoyment, glad to hear that you still play Wargames in your spare time. Maybe you're old enough to be an Armchair General, retired? |
| #3pigknightApr 25, 2010 15:17:59 | How would you feel about being a player though? |
| #4Robin_HoodlumApr 25, 2010 15:45:32 |
I've played on occasion, but I find myself critiquing the DM, comparing their style to mine, etc. Actually, I am a poor player. I've been DMing for over 25 years. When we first started gaming, no one else would do it... and I've been doing it ever since... My group still plays, and invites me to play... and I do sometimes. But I really suck as a player... Sometimes we just play World at War... |
| #5toastedamphibianApr 26, 2010 5:52:06 | You, an uptight closed-minded controll freak? Never would have guessed. :P |
| #6boraxeApr 26, 2010 9:05:12 | Never say never, my friend. Burnout is realtively common, but everyone I've known who's "given it up" has gone back eventually. Just take a break from it for a while and you may find you batteries recharged. Cheers. |
| #7death_isthe_beginingApr 26, 2010 23:52:49 | I agree with Boraxe you just need a break. Try thinking up a campaign in a month or two and you'll probably find yourself wanting some players for a game. Just give it time. |
| #8cloqwurkApr 27, 2010 11:37:14 | I rarely play as a Player either, Robin_Hoodlum, so I know the feeling of inadequacy pretty well. I am sure that I wouldn't be an absolutely horrible Player, but I am not sure I'd make a decent Player either, you know? |
| #9modern_iconoclastApr 27, 2010 14:13:39 | I'm out of it also, someone still has some? |
| #10EscherEnigmaApr 27, 2010 14:46:46 | Heck, I've been out of it for close to a year now. Gotta fix that. I miss my regular game. But driving up to 'burque just for a game is weird... |
| #11toastedamphibianApr 27, 2010 15:16:41 | Yah, I havnt RP in probably 6 months or more, save here on the forums. |
| #12zombie_babiesApr 27, 2010 15:45:40 | I play D&D every Sunday but I haven't RPd since 4e came out. Not that it's 4e's fault, we lost our normal DM and nobody wants to do it so we run modules now. And you don't get no RP with modules. I'm thinkin' about DMing again after DS is released, but now there's some serious, serious anti-4e stirrings goin' on in my group so I dunno. As much as I love 3.5, there's no way in hell I'll ever DM it again. Too much work. Oh well. |
| #13toastedamphibianApr 27, 2010 16:53:24 | So offer to DM a 4th game. If they don;t like it, they can play 3.5 with no DM. |
| #14dragomApr 27, 2010 20:04:32 | I've burned out a few times. |
| #15Robin_HoodlumApr 28, 2010 5:37:06 | Yeah but it's different this time. I have also burned out a couple of times, but I always knew I would play again.. I still wanted to play. But now, I simply don't want to do it anymore... at all. |
| #16zombie_babiesApr 28, 2010 8:15:57 | So offer to DM a 4th game. If they don;t like it, they can play 3.5 with no DM. That's a possibility. I won't be able to DM 'til the winter, though. Plenty of time to figure it all out. |
