For you guys with firearm knowledge do you think I'm a good shot at 25 yards with a 9mm? btw they're flipped so you can see the groupings better, they're about 10x10 targets. btw btw it was a brand new gun with no mods to sighting or anything.

What gun was it?  25 yards is also pretty impractical for most pistols.  Cuz if the guy is 25 yards away and ya cap 'em, you're most likely gonna get into some trouble for it.    But the shooting looks ok overall.  Like RH said, though, a few shots at a time would be helpful.

For target stuff, you can do a couple of things.  You could shoot three or whatever shots, take the pic and then circle the area and shoot again.  Repeat the process.  What we do with the CCW advanced stuff is just put tape on the target and use spray paint to color any areas that need it.  Makes the targets really last.

With what the class involves, you'd be changing targets so often it'd waste just as much time.  We don't shoot once, aim again, shoot again, aim some more ... it's rapid fire and you'll dump an entire mag in seconds.  So there's a lot of holes quickly.  It's just not practical to change targets often.  Taping takes time but it's not too bad.  When you're dumpin' 400+ rounds, you either need an assload of targets or a li'l bit o' tape and some targets.

If I'm shootin' a rifle or sighting in any gun, though, the more targets the better.  Gotta be clean.  When you're shootin' in defensive scenarios it's also good, though, to pick your shots out of the mass of holes.  You won't always know where your shot went by the reaction of the target.  You just need to be able to know where they are going.  By practicing catching the impact like that, you'll really get to know where you put the rounds.

Anyhoo, this all inspires another OTTer gathering (that'll never happen) idea!  We could all meet at a range and shoot all day!  Yay!

Thing is, ya don't want your eye drawn away.  Masking tape is close enough to the target color so as to not offer a specific point of aim.  They may work, though.

Yes and no.  Most people don't wear bullseyes around, after all.

what is the CCW process like?

That all depends upon state law and your instructors.  We have to have 10 total hours of training - 8 in class and 2 at the range for qualification.  After you pass that, you go to the sheriff and give them some money to run a background check and get you your license.  Overall it's nowhere near enough to teach you what to do if you ever have to use it.

Yay!

is this for standard CCW courses?

Nope.  Advanced classes for after CCW.

I haven't seen them in the shape of people, but these are small enough (I've also seen some smaller ones) that you can put several on the target to cover up the different spots you've hit.

Thing is, ya don't want your eye drawn away.  Masking tape is close enough to the target color so as to not offer a specific point of aim.  They may work, though.

Helps you train for real life. There are many distractions that will draw your attention to different points.

Yes and no.  Most people don't wear bullseyes around, after all.

Most people don't go around getting into gun fights either.

True enough.  But if they did, they probably wouldn't be wearin' a bullseye.

True, but if a few small targets distracts you so much, what is going to happen when you have a target that is wearing a coat or shirt that has stripes, dots, or stars?

You instinctively aim for them?

For that person's sake you should hope he's not wearing a shiny belt buckle.
