I went looking for some quality mapple syrup (I love pancakes, what can I say?) when this d-bag with a shovel starts shoveling snow and throws it all on me. Well you know I couldn't let that one go. So I ed him up. Then I had his wife make me some pancakes and go get me some of the good mapple syrup.

Dude, you gotta understand, New England squirrels aren't like the nice cute little things you see in some other places - some squirrels around here grow to the size of large rabbits, and they dress up as racoons for Halloween... Tongue out
Myself and at least three other people I know have had perfectly healthy non-rabbid squirrels jump on us from low-hanging tree branches before scurrying off when we passed underneath them. Squirrels in populated areas around here aren't just acclimated to human contact, they're outright in-your-face about not being afraid of us. They're fearless about raiding bird feeders on porches and decks, and we get a lot of them nesting in peoples' attics and storage sheds.

If you had told me the squirrel pimp-slapped them and jacked their cars it wouldn't have surprised me...

Last summer we had a squirrel raid the food on our outdoor table while we were sitting at it eating. They're smart little buggers, and seem to know what they can get away with. I don't expect any trouble with them this year with three cats around.

If they're the size of rabbits I'm not sure if a cat would scare them... they'd be about the same size. Unless you have really big cats. My girlfriend had a huge cat once that caught crows, rabbits and even hares, so it's certainly possible.

Fortunately, the squirrels around here almost never get to rabbit-size. Even if they did, I think they might still be wary around cats. Cats don't seem to have much trouble killing rabbits when they can catch them.

I've got lots of squirrels in my yard.  I also have lots of oak trees so they don't give me any trouble.  Oh, and there's several black walnut trees in the neighboring yards as well.  Our squirrels are well fed and healthy so they leave the people stuff alone.  There's so much food they move in an area about 50 yards by 50 yards.  I can watch them do their little 'get food, go home' circuit from my patio.  They just follow the tree line on the edge of the yard to the back of the yard and back.  In the fall when I'm target shooting out of my tree stand in the back of the yard, they frequently go about their business right past me.  I've had 'em a few inches away on multiple occasions.  They pay me no mind.  But yeah, havin' lotsa food likely keeps 'em happy.

EDIT: They do have one irritating habit.  They, apparently, love tulip bulbs.  Like, a whole lot.  So they dig 'em up and chew on 'em every year.  Why she keeps planting them I'll never understand.  Whichever tulips survive that aren't yellow in color are eaten by the deer anyway.  And that's something I can't figure either.  Why the hell do they leave the yellow ones alone?  Meh.

The most awesome peanut-butter ever is this one, but who don't speak Dutch won't understand it.

(For what it means; the phrase "Helaas pindakaas" is a Dutch saying that means "tough luck". Pindakaas here meaning "peanut butter" and "helaas" meaning "too bad". It's used a lot because it rhymes. The bottle in the picture is the most well-known brand in Holland (normally Calvé), only with the brand name changed. As I said; you have to be Dutch to find this funny, but the first time I saw this I laughed really hard)
