They did some necropsies on the first batch of red winged black birds and everyone they cut open showed organ damage consistant with blunt force trauma. To me, hail is way more likely than five thousand simultaneous heart attacks caused by fireworks. Cuz birds live outside. And there are thunderstorms outside. And thunderstorms are loud. And produce bright flashes of light. Like fireworks. Heh.

Actually fireworks seem plausible in the case Robin linked to. The number was only about 50 and they were very near the area. In the case I was referring to, there were about 5k birds killed - to me, far more than one could reasonably assume died from fright or whatever. Plus there was the whole necropsy thing. But yeah, the ones in Robin's article may have bought it from fireworks I suppose. At any rate, HARP didn't kill any of 'em.

I was farking my girlfriend's brains out when midnight rolled around. We did not believe that the world would end, but on the off chance that it did we wanted to go out in the best way possible!

Personally, I think nothing will happen on that day. I plan on spending a quiet evening at home with the wife, looking at the Christmas tree, snuggling on the couch and sipping sugar-free hot chocolate with Andes mints melted therein.
I think, though, that anywhere from 6 months to 5 years afterward, something will happen that will slam the world collectively upside the head, and no one will see it coming. That's when things get interesting.
I don't worry too much about that, though. I'll just do what I can, and let God take care of the rest.

The good thing is that Arizona actually passed some sensible legislation and banned protesters within a certain limit. The westboro baptist church backed off of protesting the funerals.
It is an Unconstitutional law that needs to be repealed. As much as I loathe Phelps and his Westboro Bastards, they are legally within their right to protest. They always keep it on public land, they do not shout at people, they have permits where required, and they just stand their quietly. They are well within their Constitutional right to protest and the newly passed law is just a knee-jerk reaction where emotions overrode common sense and intelligence.

What works far better is when other protesters form a human shield between them and the funeral goers as has happened at other recent funerals. The stars apparently move up and down in relation to the galactic plane, much like a carousel (insert The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down kaliope music here). There's supposed to be some kind of blast of energy right on the galactic plane, though no one seems to know how long it will take for this blast to hit the Earth, nor is there any agreement on what will happen when/if this blast hits the Earth. New Agers seem to think that it will cause humanity to transcend into a higher level of consciousness/existance, where all will be peace and harmony and we'll all have rainbows and unicorns flying out of our @$$es. Others are more grim, and imagine a scorched earth/Dark Sun scenario.

The good thing is that Arizona actually passed some sensible legislation and banned protesters within a certain limit. The westboro baptist church backed off of protesting the funerals.
It is an Unconstitutional law that needs to be repealed. As much as I loathe Phelps and his Westboro Bastards, they are legally within their right to protest. They always keep it on public land, they do not shout at people, they have permits where required, and they just stand their quietly. They are well within their Constitutional right to protest and the newly passed law is just a knee-jerk reaction where emotions overrode common sense and intelligence.

As much as I despise the Westboro cult, I agree with this. The law shouldn't be passed. What works far better is when other protesters form a human shield between them and the funeral goers as has happened at other recent funerals. Shows the true beauty and strength that humanity is capable of, rather than some Constitutionally questionable ordinance.
I believe the law is based on a similar law that passed in Ohio and the constitutionality of the law has been upheld by the 6th district court. There are also other states with similar laws. The law bans protesters from being within 300 feet of a funeral. The may still protest along the funeral route. It allows for idiots to practice their warped version of Freedom of Speech, while protecting the Rights of Privacy that families at funerals have.
Public land is still public land, even if it is within 300 feet of a funeral. Also, people could easily argue that the funeral procession route is part of a funeral and ban the protesters from within 300 feet of that road.
