#1 terronus Jan 30, 2009 18:02:56	Who would be the one person, living or dead, that you would want to be your DM? Who would you want to NOT be your DM? And while you're at it, list the one person you want to game with you, and the one you don't. Best: del Toro is DMing. Vin Diesel joins to reprise his role as a half-orc barbarian. Worst: Bill O'Reilly is the DM... imagine trying to argue about the rules. Lindsay Lohan is in the gaming group. (Already, I see DM-player conflict).

Don't Want: Someone who changes rules up more than pighknight as DM and baneofelves in the group. I think constant rules changes mixed with someone that is angered easily, and like to stab people, is bad. EDIT: Changed some of the don't wants.

He seems like the sort of DM who names the months, days of the week, stats out random villages and towns and suddenly finds he has lost focus on the characters because they can't keep up with all that homebrew stuff. But of course, it would be an awesome setting. And Lovecraft would be awesome. I love horror games.

They may right good stories, but writing a good campaign is a completely different skill. Tolkien would have made a horrible DM. Splitting up his PCs all the time, allowing such a wide disparity in PC level and wealth., completely unbalanced character spotlight time, and an uber NPC who does everything and then even when he dies just comes back with some completely contrived story and a ridiculous template tacked on. Gygax is out to kill his party. If you want a good story, that's not the guy you go to. Sure, if you like a pure dungeon crawl monty haul game with basically no story or RP because your characters are all going to die within a couple of sessions if you're lucky anyways, whatever, but that sure as hell isn't my thing. As for Lovecraft, he needs to learn how to use monster CRs properly. If we're all playing level 3 commoners at best, a CR 35 extra-dimensional being equatable to a god that forces a DC 56 will save versus insanity on mere sight is not an appropriate challenge. I might be willing to give them a try if they promise deviate from their usual styles, though... Anyways, this thread needs more Vin Diesel. :D
#17 cherubaddon Feb 01, 2009 4:43:33	Granted, Gygax was more for the honour of gaming with my favourite game's inventor. But Tolkien, Lovecraft and Rein.Hagen sound perfect to me. So what if there's power disparity and uber-villains? It won't be a textbook campaign with a fighter, a rogue, a wizard and a cleric, all of equal power (let's face it: how often do we play in those? And how often do we enjoy it?). It suits me fine to see my character dying, as long as it is an appropriate death in a suitably epic story. Because in my opinion, storytelling and campaign-writing are not so disparate at all. After all, there is a reason why Mark Rein.Hagen called his games' GMs "Storytellers".

If you don't know who he is, go check igda.org you lazy bum. I know one person I don't ever, EVER, want to have as a DM again. Not a famous person, just a guy my old group hung out with for a bit. He's a horrible DM as well as a really annoying player.

Dr. Orpheus is a cool choice but he'd probably end up summoning something from another plain that would cause trouble, which means the game would have to end early. This is probably what would cause Brock to knock the table over.

As much as I dislike the man's politics, I think Bill O'Reilly would be a pretty good DM. Agree about Lohan though. BEST: Tom Cruise (for intensity), Rowan Atkinson (for comic relief and to have an english accent at the table), Robert Reich (he just seems like a gamer to me) ,Quinton Tarintino (to have a old hipster director at the table) WORST: Dick Cheney (I just can't see him getting along with everyone at the table, and I think he might cheat), Nicholas Cage (just seems like a x!%$ bag to me), Lou Dobbs (this guy is a total rules lawyer-- and possibly a drunk), Bret Michaels (for obvious reasons)
