| #1Pyrate_JibSep 08, 2009 9:19:28 | If you could pick a Super Power, any single Super Power (so you could fly but were not immune to things like friction or cold) what would you choose? |
| #2NerpherderSep 08, 2009 9:26:24 | The ability to copy and reuse the powers of others. Something like, Mimic or Rogue from Marvel, or Peter Petrelli from NBCs Heroes TV show. |
| #3ebenmckaySep 08, 2009 9:29:27 | Telekinesis, because it's versatile. Moving stuff, ranged attacks, solid defense, and levitation, yo. I guess that's why it's the horrific superpower so often (Dark Phoenix, Sylar, etc)?
If telekinesis doesn't count because it's so flexible, my second choice is slowing down time for everyone but me. |
| #4EscherEnigmaSep 08, 2009 10:24:56 | Telepathy. |
| #5d11Sep 08, 2009 10:26:31 | Wild Shape |
| #6KlaumbazSep 08, 2009 10:27:39 | full telepathy (including inserting thoughts...) |
| #7essence_acidSep 08, 2009 10:30:43 | i'd pick Psychokinesis. |
| #8Ragnar_LodbrokSep 08, 2009 10:33:51 | Telekinesis. I wish for it more often than any other power. |
| #9cherubaddonSep 08, 2009 11:06:33 | At-will teleportation; many friends on the other side of the big lake, y'know? Second choice telekinesis or telepathy. |
| #10KlirshonSep 08, 2009 11:10:42 | I'd have to say transmutation/alchemy. I would transmute anything on a whim, including converting my fleshy body into a preferable structure of metal and robotics... I'm cheating am I? |
| #11Cpt_MichaSep 08, 2009 11:25:28 | Farseeing/precognition. |
| #12hanzo187Sep 08, 2009 11:33:07 | Invisibility for me. |
| #13kraikSep 08, 2009 12:17:20 | Teleportation (without error of course) I'd just like to go wherever i wanted whenever i wanted. Gets too cold? lets go to jamaica. Want to see one of my mates? I'm there. Anywhere you wanted to go and you could be there. -Kraik |
| #14KillerGMSep 08, 2009 12:22:01 | Shapeshifting. While I think teleportation, telepathy, and time powers would be cool and imminently useful, I've always had a soft-spot in my heart for shapeshifting abilities. When I was younger and played "X-Men" with my friend, my X-Man always had shapeshifting powers, and I'll always remember those times fondly. |
| #15ellorinSep 08, 2009 13:21:47 | Flight. |
| #16baneofelvesSep 08, 2009 13:39:41 | Telekinesis. |
| #17october_darknessSep 08, 2009 14:00:42 | Unlimited Invincibility/Indestructible. Technically, I would live forever, be immune to diseases, etc. etc. Nothing could kill me! |
| #18baneofelvesSep 08, 2009 14:32:45 | Scratch that. Instead of Telekinesis, I want the ability to protect people from themselves. I'm sick of seeing good people destroying themself with their dumb*** decisions. |
| #19EscherEnigmaSep 08, 2009 15:11:20 | Eh, long-term removal of free will, even for someone's own good, pings kinda high on the "kilo-nazi" chart, methinks. |
| #20bo0kw0rmSep 08, 2009 15:12:35 | Flight via Wings.
For anyone who doesn't play already, check out City of Heros, its an awesome superhero online game. |
| #21EscherEnigmaSep 08, 2009 15:35:08 | Tried it. In a few months when I start seeing Champions Online free trials I'm going to see if I can get my sisters and SO to try it with me so we can see if we're going to switch to that until Cataclysm/Diablo III comes out. |
| #22KillerGMSep 08, 2009 15:37:51 |
My friend's friend is playing Champions, and he says it's cool. One of the things I think is neat is that you create your nemisis when you create your hero. I like that. |
| #23ellorinSep 08, 2009 15:39:54 |
Hm...sounds like a great idea. Hopefully its execution will not be a letdown. |
| #24awesome_dudeSep 08, 2009 15:45:37 |
It could mean an increase in intelligence in everything around him. It would basically be the power to inspire good judgment in others. As for me, I can't choose yet. Immutability is tempting (October_Darkness's choice), telekinesis would be tempting if not incredibly lame ("OH HAY LOOK I CAN DO EVERYTHING"). I might also choose emotion manipulation (a much rougher version of mind control since only emotion can be inspired but the resulting behavior depends entirely on the person). I would like to be able to create fire, but controlling it is another power so I wouldn't actually be able to use it in a useful (let alone benevolent) manner. |
| #25zombie_babiesSep 08, 2009 15:47:22 | I want the power of stabbing people and not getting in trouble for it. |
| #26ellorinSep 08, 2009 15:48:21 |
Ultimate Popularity? |
| #27zombie_babiesSep 08, 2009 15:51:44 | Something tells me I won't be all that well liked. I plan on stabbing lots of people, you see. I'm ok with that. |
| #28EscherEnigmaSep 08, 2009 16:02:49 |
... I'm suddenly reminded of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen Vasquez, in which the main character does that. A lot. At one point he even wonders how he can stab a woman selling flowers in the middle of a street and then leave a bloody trail back to his house and never suffer repercussions. It was an... odd... comic. Jhonen Vasquez then went on to make the Nickolodean cartoon Invader Zim. I wonder how many little kids have said "I love Zim! Let's google Jhonen Vasquez and see what else he's done!" and seen something like this or this. |
| #29baneofelvesSep 08, 2009 16:19:59 |
True. I guess I'll just stick with my telekinesis then. |
| #30calronmoonflowerSep 08, 2009 16:33:24 | Sylar's power to of "intuitive aptitude" is a good one, that is if you can leave behind the baggage that came with it. |
| #31tiwaztyrsfistSep 08, 2009 19:13:09 | I've thought about this a lot... I have two I have trouble choosing between. 1> Portal based teleportation, of unlimited size, with unlimited range. Portals would also be barriers, in the sense that if the relative pressures were unequal, they would prevent cross flow. Easy manned mission to Mars. 2> Perfect Pan-Linguistic Fluency. Perfect fluency in all forms of all languages. |
| #32pigknightSep 08, 2009 20:12:43 | Teleportation of self and others (including objects). Constantly bamf for defense then teleport a rock into someone's skull when you need offense. |
| #33FireclaveSep 08, 2009 22:22:47 | 3e Wizardry. |
| #34owls_and_more_owlsSep 09, 2009 1:32:08 | Doppelganging. (Shapeshifting + mind reading.) |
| #35fridaSep 09, 2009 5:55:46 | Theres so many...I think I would choose healing powers so that I could help people and keep me and my family healthy. |
| #36awesome_dudeSep 09, 2009 10:44:10 |
Actually, the ability to cure cancer ("de-mutate"/kill cancerous cells) would be pretty cool. Even with only a tiny fee (much smaller than what chemotherapy and all that jazz cost, to steamroll the competition) I'd soon be a millionaire plus I'd get to do some good in this world. |
| #37The-Mage-KingSep 09, 2009 10:51:12 | Regeneration that adds immunity to pain. What? I've thought it through. |
| #38elendrielSep 09, 2009 10:58:08 | Complete control of elemental/chemical properties of the elements. I would be able to band elements together (creation of anything in any shape), generate or remove ground levels (excavation and such), offensive weapon (what's that? you just gave me the finger? where'd that finger go anyway?), create barriers (stave of damage from a hurricane...or heck, dissipate the hurricane altogether), and manipulate body structures (you just severed your arm? I'll fix that). Seems like a lot, but manipulating anything on the periodic table of elements on a whim sounds great! |
| #39fridaSep 09, 2009 12:21:06 |
Ha ha! You might as well say you pick the GOD superpower but skip the all knowing part. |
| #40pluisjenSep 09, 2009 15:57:15 | Datalink. Direct interfacing with machines. The possibilities are limitless if you have the vast interwebz at your disposal, and can create computerprograms through thought alone. |
| #41zombie_babiesSep 09, 2009 15:59:06 |
Not to mention the straight to the ... brain ... porn. |
| #42pluisjenSep 09, 2009 16:00:13 |
That hadn't crossed my mind yet ![]() |
| #43zombie_babiesSep 09, 2009 16:03:49 | But it did 'cross' something else, didn't it? |
| #44EscherEnigmaSep 09, 2009 16:24:51 |
... I'm too educated about compilers, information systems, computer networking and so-on to accept a power such as that anymore. There's just too much that it does behind the curtain... too much complex stuff that requires years to learn that gets brushed aside because the comic writer doesn't understand how computers work. I mean... it just doesn't work like that! And so what if you could download a picture directly to your brain. Can you figure out what a picture looks like just from the bit code? No? that means your power is also displaying information in specific formats. But formats change. And then your power automatically keeps up with them? /froth I suppose that's one of the reasons why writers are sometimes recommended to not write about what they know, because they'll know too much to accept the gross simplifications necessary to make fiction work. |
| #45archylleSep 09, 2009 16:32:14 | If I had to choose but a single power, I would definately take the power to Heal, both for others and myself. |
| #46pluisjenSep 10, 2009 2:49:42 |
I know about most of that stuff, I've had some classes about assembly, compilers and programming at University. But it's a superpower, so hell yes it'll interpret the information for me, and program based on human thought, and update when formats changes. That's why it's a super power |
| #47cherubaddonSep 10, 2009 4:57:00 |
What, because you think re-arranging molecules is easier? Or healing? I mean, think about the crap going on there - creating new cells, destroying bad ones, screwing around with nerve ends and the metabolism and whatnot. And let's not even get into teleportation. So I suppose that unless we can accept stuff like that, we might as well not be having this discussion at all. |
| #48zombie_babiesSep 10, 2009 8:33:56 | That's why I kept mine simple. And fun. |
| #49fridaSep 10, 2009 9:01:31 |
Because stabbing people is fun? |
| #50zombie_babiesSep 10, 2009 9:09:33 | Well ... yeah. Yeah it is. It's at the very least much better than the alternative (you know, not stabbing people). |
| #51jhonesySep 10, 2009 9:26:14 | The power to control the weather with a mere thought! |
| #52zombie_babiesSep 10, 2009 9:44:40 | Aww shucks. There ya go makin' me all blushy. |
| #53jhonesySep 10, 2009 10:00:06 | I didn't know zombies could even blush! |
| #54zombie_babiesSep 10, 2009 10:18:23 | Pssst. I'm not really a zombie. Don't tell nobody, ok? |
| #55jhonesySep 10, 2009 10:28:15 | Okay... I wont.
Hey, everybody! I got something to tells you all!
It's about Z_B; the blokes a...
Super Hero. |
| #56zombie_babiesSep 10, 2009 10:31:36 | Psst. I'm not one of those, either. |
| #57jhonesySep 10, 2009 10:33:46 | Ah man. You always find a way to ruin my fun eh Z_B. It's a good thing your so cuddly and pokeable, otherwise I'd be upset about all this lying of yours. *poke* |
| #58EscherEnigmaSep 10, 2009 11:10:47 | What, because you think re-arranging molecules is easier? Or healing? I mean, think about the crap going on there - creating new cells, destroying bad ones, screwing around with nerve ends and the metabolism and whatnot. And let's not even get into teleportation. So I suppose that unless we can accept stuff like that, we might as well not be having this discussion at all. Well, yes, I do think it's easier. Because I'm not over-educated about those fields, and the abstract concept almost always sounds easier then the real thing. You see, my objection has nothing really to do with how possible any of this stuff is (that is, none of it), but that in this one case I know precisely how hard it is and how many steps are being skipped and how senseless it really is. And for me that means I can't accept it. Nothing to do really with just how impossible it is, just how much I know about how impossible it is. Savvy? |
| #59pluisjenSep 10, 2009 11:14:51 | There's a term and Trope on TVTropes.org about this very thing... But I can't remember which one |
| #60d11Sep 10, 2009 11:40:31 | |
| #61zombie_babiesSep 10, 2009 12:07:07 |
*giggles* |
| #62pluisjenSep 10, 2009 15:50:00 | No no I meant about not being able to suspend your disbelief because it's something you know about. And that when someone writes a book where the main character has profession X, everybody loves the book except people who have profession X, because invariable the writer hasn't portraid their profession the right way. It was probably in the list of 'You Fail X Forever', of which there seem to be a lot. |
| #63Mad_JackSep 12, 2009 3:43:29 |
Let's call it "quantum"-kinesis... The ability to sense and control subatomic particles, which would allow me a complete fundamental awareness of everything within, say, a 30 foot radius. With these qualifications... 1. It's controlled subconsciously, so I wouldn't need to know physics - it's all about will and visualization. 2. The consequence of number 1 being that my ability to do things would be limited to those things that I could imagine and truly believed I could. If I can rationalize it and justify it somehow, I can accomplish it. (For example, teleportation is possible because I'm not "changing" anything - a room with me over here and a room with me over there have the same number of particles, as Doc Manhattan would say - and, because perception defines reality, I am where I think I am. And I can walk through walls because physical objects are composed mostly of empty space between particles, so I can just squeeze my particles through the empty spaces. And invisibility is allowing photons to pass through the empty spaces in me.) Those limitations allow me to do some really cool stuff without actually turning into The Beyonder and making superheroes fight each other for entertainment. No teleporting half a mile down to the store to buy Doritos, no insta-kill Vulcan mindmelds, no flying faster than the posted speed limit, etc. Basically, I'd be one hell of a badass Jedi Ninja who mainly used his power to do things like avoid cell phone service salesmen at the mall, keep from getting rained on at the bus stop, and keep his over-priced little bags of potato chips from getting jammed up inside the candy machines at work, lol. And, of course, sneak into peoples' houses and dig through their refrigerators, and check out dodgy German porn sites on their computers. |
| #64ForgemberSep 12, 2009 5:18:38 | I can't believe no one has picked this yet, I would pick Super Good Luck, its pretty much the best power. |
| #65awesome_dudeSep 12, 2009 11:02:26 |
Also the most LOL one. |
| #66pedywagnSep 16, 2009 15:26:16 | True immortality sounds enticing, though you will enevitably have to face the age old question of; "What do you do when everyone you love has died much less everyone in the world?" Mimicry, and the potential to keep, other powers is also quite a good idea, but it's kind of a cop out. "I can't decide from one power so I'll just take everyone's." And what if no one had any powers? Then you would also not have any powers. In the end, I think I would go for the old fashioned 'Controlling People's Minds' at least that way I know I won't have to worry about anything for the rest of my life and if I so choose I could manipulate politics for funsies. |
| #67QubeSep 17, 2009 0:45:59 | a physical boost (great strenght,health, flexabilities; and knowledge of martial arts) |
| #68toastedamphibianSep 17, 2009 1:05:22 |
So, like batman? |
| #69toastedamphibianSep 17, 2009 1:07:29 | I would like to be able to turn into an insubstantial smoke siloutte at will, even reflexivly. (With the understanding that I could change back as easily, obviously.) |
| #70owls_and_more_owlsSep 17, 2009 1:56:51 | I've been playing a lot of Infamous, and so powers of electricity and stuff would be really cool, if extremely impractical. |
| #71williamhm75Sep 17, 2009 7:45:18 | pyrokenisis. Cause everything is better when it is on fire. |
| #72baneofelvesSep 17, 2009 17:22:36 | Made up my mind. Lycanthropy. |
| #73awesome_dudeSep 17, 2009 17:35:26 | LOL. |
| #74toastedamphibianSep 17, 2009 19:33:16 |
Lycanthropy is a disease/curse/affliction that can cause a number of attributes. It is not a super power, although some of the things it can cause, taken individually, could be considered super powers. |
| #75cloqwurkSep 18, 2009 12:04:31 | I wouldn't mind being a technomancer. Considering the day and age we live in, being able to control machines and digital information on a mere whim of thought would be made of win! |
| #76williamhm75Sep 18, 2009 14:08:10 |
Magnetos ability to manipulate metal would be very useful as well. |
| #77RPJesusSep 18, 2009 16:16:10 |
That'd be my choice. And I'm talking about like the bullstuff they pulled in Escaflowne, where the mech's of the people they were fighting asctually failed for what I believe was the only time in that series.
Cowboy Bebop sits at his computer? |
| #78frozenferretSep 19, 2009 6:16:35 | |
| #79tiwaztyrsfistSep 19, 2009 8:50:23 |
I've always liked how Magneto's powers work on non-ferros, non-magnetically reactive metals. Like gold, copper, and so on... I change my power choice, I want the ability to make fundemental physical laws effect things in such a way that they violate themselves. Also, this would include being able to simply turn off the weak and strong nuclear forces in an area for a while... |
| #80cloqwurkSep 19, 2009 12:51:51 | Wow, some pretty nifty (or maybe just crazy!?) powers going on here. I wonder what would occour if we were all thrown into a nice Power Fight with one another, all having access to the powers and requirments needed. Who'd win? |
| #81pluisjenSep 19, 2009 13:00:14 |
All those people not in the same universe as the strugglers. |
| #82RPJesusSep 19, 2009 16:32:15 |
BS luck. Whats that? Datalink? Ohp, random virus, what are the odds? Flight? Straight into a jet. Telepathy? Well here comes a coincidental zerg rush. Telekinesis? Looks like you tried to move something heaveir than you anticipated and sprained your brain. Prokinesis? Shame it's been raining for the past 3 days. etc. |
| #83baneofelvesSep 19, 2009 19:32:22 |
Fine then, Mister Nitpicker. My superpower is all of the BENEFITS of lycanthory, but without the drawbacks. |
| #84awesome_dudeSep 19, 2009 19:40:10 |
You can only have a single power. It says so right in the OP. All the benefits of lycanthropy are individual powers. |
| #85EscherEnigmaSep 19, 2009 19:43:05 |
That's silly, we've let others choose package deals. |
| #86awesome_dudeSep 19, 2009 19:44:29 |
Yes, but I'm not that nice. |
| #87baneofelvesSep 19, 2009 19:45:00 |
But no one cares about you, and EE is cooler, so what he says goes. |
| #88awesome_dudeSep 19, 2009 20:21:01 | I've made up my mind: The ability to generate shock image hallucinations in anyone I want whenever I want. I would goatse everyone. And baneofelves twice. |
| #89baneofelvesSep 19, 2009 20:29:56 | A sick person like you would enjoy that, too. |
| #90ubergeekSep 19, 2009 20:40:55 | My power would definately be the power to use Magic: The Gathering cards to gain some similar effect in real life. Yeah, I get that's it's cheezy and obsessive. But this is the Wizards forum, and I doubt there's a single person here that's not some compulsive gamer. Of course, for the power to work, I have to be following the actual rules of the game. It would make for the most epic fight scenes ever. |
| #91awesome_dudeSep 19, 2009 21:31:58 |
I can't lie. It would be crazy awesome if I actually could. |
| #92baneofelvesSep 19, 2009 21:35:53 |
It would be a very amusing power
|
| #93RPJesusSep 20, 2009 2:12:06 |
Benefits? Isn't it just being able to turn into a wolf/tiger/cat/whatever? |
| #94zombie_babiesSep 21, 2009 9:20:44 |
Umm. I win. *stabbity* |
| #95RPJesusSep 21, 2009 11:31:18 |
I do believe BS luck beat this tactic explicitly in Escaflowne when Folken tried to skewer Dornkirk. |
| #96zombie_babiesSep 21, 2009 11:33:43 | Nothing beats stabbity - as evidenced by the fact that anime sucks. *stabbity* |
| #97williamhm75Sep 21, 2009 12:51:34 |
Just because it's raining doesn't mean I can't light you on fire. I have lighter fluid. |
| #98TectormanSep 21, 2009 13:40:47 | The power of the Q. But Super-Vision would work, too. |
| #99RPJesusSep 21, 2009 15:51:05 |
That's recently leaked out all over your jacket and you didn't notice. There's a reason BS luck is the choice of Mary Sues everywhere. :D |
| #100EscherEnigmaSep 21, 2009 16:05:07 |
If I recall correctly, last time I saw someone with that "BS luck" power go up against another super-powered individual, he got turned into a cat. For the record, it was Ultimate X-Men Longshot vs. Scarlet Witch. |
| #101RPJesusSep 21, 2009 16:28:27 |
Exactly, They couldn't even curse him right so he got awesomer. BS luck wins every time :D. |
| #102EscherEnigmaSep 21, 2009 16:41:15 |
Thats... one... interprettation of events, I suppose. |
| #103pyromancer999Sep 21, 2009 17:10:38 | I'd choose Ultra Boy's power: the ability to use any power, one at a time.
Failing that, I'd want the super power to mess with time(stop, restart, fast forward, rewind) |
| #104toastedamphibianSep 21, 2009 17:15:50 | FrozenFerett looks like Mudd |
| #105toastedamphibianSep 21, 2009 17:20:22 |
View more Batman. |
| #106chrysadruaelSep 21, 2009 23:36:12 | I'd give myself the power of a Genie. That is, to grant wishes, including my own. Then I'd have every power, whenever I felt like it. Cuz hax. |
| #107RPJesusSep 22, 2009 0:21:54 |
I wish that you were no longer a genie :3. |
| #108pluisjenSep 22, 2009 5:48:07 | How about just wishing for the power of Deus Ex Machine (which is like BS Luck, only gods appear to apply it!) |
| #109williamhm75Sep 22, 2009 8:51:45 |
Ability to alter fate. |
| #110awesome_dudeSep 22, 2009 8:54:14 | Ability to alter fat. |
| #111baneofelvesSep 22, 2009 11:18:02 | You could become disgustingly wealthy with THAT power. |
| #112cloqwurkSep 22, 2009 15:11:18 | I've heard of many superpowers, but the ability to alter the fat content of a person's body is one I ain't never seen or heard before. Kudos for that! |
| #113skaevhosSep 23, 2009 12:41:20 | I'd stick with the simple classic - the ability to create, channel, and manipulate fire as I see fit. Heh, heh, heh. |
