... things aren't looking good.
A lack of readiness can, and probably will, get one killed.
All it takes is one hit to sink a carrier, or any other ship, with modern anti-ship missiles.
And those ships cost A LOT of money and have A LOT of personnel on board.

I'm a little worried...

Why this sudden fear for a carrier being hit by an anti-ship missile?

Well, it's more to do with the lack of readiness and general sloppiness of the entire US Navy.

But to answer your question...
China.

Heh, ok. You fear for a second Pearl Harbor?

Not so much that as an attack on a carrier near Taiwan.  I can see China hitting the carrier assigned to patrol near Taiwan as a prelude to an attack on that country.

On a side note: Has China finished that aircraft carrier yet?

China is unlikely to take overt action against us anytime soon. Their economy is too wound up in ours.

Agreed. Not to mention there are multiple ABM projects, some complete, some ongoing, I'm not familiar enough with the specs of each one to determine if they'd be useful against China's supposed anti-carrier missile, but I'd bet money that if we don't have one, someone is working on it.

Besides, if China really wanted to use it, they wouldn't have announced it. You don't tell your enemies what you are going to use against them unless you're more concerned with intimidation/political power points than actually using it.
