Inspiration

Ever have one of those days where inspiration strikes in a really bizarre and twisted fashion?

Yeah.  I do occasionally.  My muse over the last few days decided to invent a world that's something between Dune, Trigun and Dark Sun, in which a maybe-evil-maybe-nice empire has genetically modified humans as natural-born berserkers1, and ****ed up sexual politics as means to controlling armies.  And then they invade a city with a powerful psychic population which is somewhere between a religious cult and a noble class.

The leading characters in the story are a psychic of the invaded city, a handful of the berserker/soldiers that invaded, a few random nobles on both sides, and a whole host of sympathetic villains (the rebels/resisters.  I mean, they're trying to kick the invaders out of their city, so it's kinda hard to really paint them black... on the other hand they're trying to kill the "heroes" who, aside from being soldiers and invaders, actually seem like good sorts of folk.  Who just happen to be entirely obedient to some folk who aren't, but it's not their fault because (and etc.))

And my muse keeps shoving out really whacked-out stuff 'bout these berserkers... stuff that, if I actually included in a story would probably make it rated R just because it's unnecessary sexual detail, and yet it also winds up being plot important, but it's just like "why am I imagining these things?!  Why am I inventing a race of emotionally-abused humans with the bodies of Greek gods that go into uncontrollable heat2 once a month?!"

Oh, and sooner or later there's psychic ninjas.

...  yeah... at least this time my muse is just going for whacky perverted sci-fi/fantasy and not contemporary introspective into how complicated and weird normal lives are.

Anyway.  Just thought I'd share this weird bit of inspiration my muse has provided.  I tell ya, my muse?  Is weird.  It's like my muse will just walk off for a while, leave me without inspiration to draw or write, and then come back with all sorts of weirdness and complicated stories and out-there characters and I just have no idea where it comes from.
________
1As a random note, I keep trying to spell berserker with a 'z' and I'm not sure why.
2Men and women both.  And outside of the once-a-month deal, they have zero sex drive.  I tell you, my muse is far kinkier then I am.

Sounds like a story for Heavy Metal!
Are you gonna draw it... like a comic or somethin'?

Sounds cool!

Ha!  Probably not.  It's like... fourth on the list of creative projects I want to work on?  Yeah, fourth.  There's the heroic fantasy epic, the superhero drama and the high school coming-of-age story.  So it's fourth at the moment.

... and looking at that list, at least I can say that my muse likes to keep mixing up the setting of the stories it gives me.

$5 says if I came up with that someone would have gotten all up on me being a perv or somesuch.

Depends on whose company you are in and where the comment is made...

IMO of course. Doesn't mean I'm right and you're wrong.

oh inspiration always strikes me in a bizarre and twisted fashion...my mind is always wandering down tenebrous and labyrinthine corridors populated by fuzzy kittens and S&M monsters.

what i have trouble with is the TIME in which inspiration strikes.  it is most innoportune and often i don't have time to capture it all as it begins to hemorrhage out of my head while i'm in the car or at dinner with the family...it is most embarrassing.

Eh.  When you call yourself a perv first1, it kinda takes the punch out of anyone else calling you a perv later on, ya know?

@bfishy
I don't really have that problem... my ideas tend to cook and simmer for a while.  While I occasionally visualize scenes that I wish I could take notes on right away, for the most part I get inspiration for over-arching themes and world details, and then have to fight tooth-and-nail for the resolution needed to actually write or draw something.  My muse is a very "big idea"-type person, which makes it rather annoying when I'm trying to draw the damn trees.
________
1Okay, so I technically said that it was my muse that was giving me perverted ideas and was kinkier then me, but as that's just me personifying that inexplicable source of inspiration, it's safe to say that if I call my muse perverted, I'm really calling myself perverted.

LOL I know what you mean I describe my muse as a perverted hyper active fairy girl with ADHD.  One minute it will be working full force then it just stops all together.  One minute I'll be writing a nice interesting battle scene then Ill be thinking about sweaty bodies which gets me thinking about sex which gets me totally distracted.  I need a less distractable muse.

hehehe, i get that too.  the EPIC idea and also the "holy crap i have this idea...oooh and this idea...and this!  this!  this!...."  as i've aged i've learned to temper it a bit i think.  it really is just a time issue.  so many things in my brain, so very very very little time to get them all out.  hard to get past the rough phase into something more solid.  only time to lay down broad strokes and hardly a moment to lay in the details.  i joke with my wife that i'll get it all done when i retire lol

Yeah, I'm in the 'big idea, no motivation' camp.  It sucks.

The "big idea" is exactly what I have a problem with. I can create an entire nation but that is as big as I can take it. The rest of the world is gray mist that refuses to take shape.

Oh and can I play in this campaign world of yours (I don't care if it does turn out R rated)?

Note: As far as I'm concerned Soulknifes are physic ninjas already.

My muse is usually, oddly enough, musically powered.  It's not always the lyrics to the song either (though sometimes it is), sometimes it's just the emotion that goes along with the song that triggers something.

Perhaps the most annoying thing about my muse is that she often works nights.  The last two times I was struck with inspiration for the story I'm writing I have been laying in bed trying to sleep.  I learned a long time ago however to keep a pencil and notebook at my bedside just in case.

As for muses being kinky or sexual, mine isn't exactly chaste either, but I won't go into detail on that.

If you like the ideas go for it, but I've already got so many creative projects on my plate I'm not sure when or if I'll get around to putting anything down in a word processor.  I mean yeah, I have a few quick sketches1 already but sketching is just something I do.
________
1I have a sketch of a female human psychic dressed similarly to Indiana Jones (sans whip and hat) and a few different concepts for the berzerker uniforms.  Still trying to decide whether to go symmetrical or not, and just how fabulous their jack boots2 will be...
2This is me we're talking about.  Awesome (to me) footwear is practically mandatory.

Well in that case you must pimp reality into being your muse, I did that long ago. The easiest way to do so is to add something unrealistic to the real world and imagine peoples reactions (or make up some outrageous reaction and peoples justification for acting that way).

Oddly enough the kinkier my thoughts are the more my muse is working.  Most of the time she's off in 15 different directions but if I start thinking of X rated fiction stuff she's all there.  I also write better when I'm dressed in femme.  I guess my female persona is more creative than my male.

Either that or your muse lives in Mr Happy and the excited throbbing is so noisy it makes her want to go outside.

As I'll be in drag for a few days this next week, I might sit down and see if that works for me as well.

honestly, EE I'm with ya. With the effort I've -vested into my STO character storyline- I could have started and probably finished a star trek novel by now.

And yet I'm perfectly content just writing out the log entries and crap instead of being productive with the inspiration.
