So basically the entire point of this model's photo shoot, (that was shopped) was rendered pointless by the studio or someone along the line.

I mean, if you are going to be modelling + size... shouldn't the photo actually show a + size girl in it?

I'm confused.  Since when is size 101 "plus sized"?
________
1I admit, I'm a little unclear on just how large that is.  My online sources2 say it's somewhere between a 28 and 32 inch waist, but when I was getting a pair of capris for my costume last month I had to go down to a 53 though all my jeans are 32 inch waists.
2A.K.A. "Google"
3This confused my sister as well.  It also made her a bit jealous.

I'm not entirely sure myself. I'm also unsure of just how they measure female waist cause it's obviously not how we measure our's.

I can take a tape measure and measure 30 inches round my waist.

That is also the size of pants I wear.

So obviously they are measuring it different than we are.

Female clothing sizes for pants and skirts are seriously wonky, and one company's size 2 might be another company's size 4 or another's size 0... If I remember correctly, the clothing sizes take into account both waist and hip measurements, and I seem to recall something about male and female waist being measured in slightly different locations. Which is why it's often difficult for guys to buy well-fitting female clothing.
Oddly enough, it's often easier for us larger guys to find good female clothing, lol. (yay, Hot Topic...)

I'm sure you can find various CD-friendly sites that offer assistance with the comparison of male and female sizes.  Of course, it's not like size is really universal in men's clothes either.  I know people who wear a 3x in one brand/style but need a 5x in another brand/style.  The same is true with shoe sizes, as boot sizes are often different from normal shoe sizes; and internationally produced shoes don't always get US shoe sizes correct when they are made (especially if they are made cheaply; I'm looking at you on this one China).  I've even seen men's belts of different lengths with the same number on them.  This is pretty hard to mess up when you're just measuring the length of the dang thing.

I would exactly call either of the two pictures in the article "size+".

How sad the world has become when someone who looks like that is considered a "size+" model.

No kidding.  I looked at the two pics (before and after retouch) and honestly had to read the damned caption to figure out what was what.  She looks skinny enough to me.  I looked up some of her other pics and she used to be plumper - more of what I'd consider 'plus sized' but at the very lower limit of it.  I can't see why she's so upset.  The alterations were minimal.  I mean, I get that she's got this whole story of tragedy and redemption goin' on, but hell, the pics aren't that different.  Fo' reals, yo.

Re: Sizes.  From what I recall, the more expensive the dress, the lower the size.  In other words, if you were a 5 and you bought a dress from Company X for $150, Company Y may offer a very similar dress priced at $200 or $250 as a size 4 or even 3.  They play on women's obsession with small sizes.  A disgusting practice, but one that apparently works - if it actually happens.  I can't for the life of me recall the source, so take it as 'possibly possible' at most.

Sometimes guy jeans size varies slightly.

For example the ones I am wearing now are allegedly 30s, but fit nothing like 30s. Infact I feel vaguely uncomfortable in them at all times (it's laundry day and my other jeans are all in the dryer. So I can't just skip out on wearing these ***** ****** mother **** jeans).

I'm not sure how or what measured these, but 30s they aren't or if they are they are of the extra super snug variety.

But mostly I've found when that sort of thing happens its cause it's a defective pair of guy jeans. (For example other jeans by this company I wear, the size is right. So yah)

Sizes in general are wonky. I once bought two shirts: same size, same style, same brand, same day and same store. The only difference was colour. One of them was so tight I would have burst is Incredible Hulk style if I'd try to wear it, the other I was practically swimming in. Ostensibly the "same" shirt, but radically different fit.

They are wonky, yes. I always wear XL shirts I buy here, but the one I ordered from a webshop that came over from the USA was a good size bigger; it's the largest shirt I have.

I also heard from my girlfriend that they're "reassigning" sizes in those webshops, so that you'll be able to order an "American M" size. If they go through with that, she'll be down to wearing XXXS probably, from what she's been telling me Tongue out

As for models that actually look like people, check out the Dove commercials: 1.bp.blogspot.com/_0KkalrvPzs8/Rfbs3gpqd...

That's because they're NOT measuring the length of them.

Years ago my father was touring a factory in Korea where they were making flip-flops.
As he watched he noticed that the workers had 3 stamps.  Size: S, M, L.
Every so often the workers would switch from using one stamp to another.
Regardless of the fact that every flip-flop coming down the line was the exact same size....

Generic hotness?

Either you are spending all of your time in the company of stupidly hot women and have forgoten how rare something like that is lookswise, or you've intentionally shifted your standards to something you see as possibly attainable? (or at least easier to hook up with)

The doveladies that was linked earlier, -that- is generic and Average to me. I can see that all the time if I wanted to, in real life.

Ok, she seems better overall than the blond.  But maybe a bit skinny.  If there ain't no butt hangin' out o' them bikini bottoms, don't bother walkin' past me.

And I actually do think my standards got better.  I prefer healthy looking women to sickly ones.

No matter what your age, if you like women without hips, you are pretty much looking at a boy.

Yar!  Funny, but oh so true.

And your standards don't get lower with age, they get better.

Yep, better.

EDIT: And it is smarter to like chicks with some meat on 'em, too.  Cuz if you ever get stranded and have to eat your gal to survive, whoever datin' that blond surfer is gonna die a hell of a lot sooner than me.

I didn't say "average" , I said "generic".

And I have no goals for women being "attainable" or "easier to hook up with". I've been happily married for nine years.

This woman is hot and certainly not generic. Ditto this one and this one and this one… I just find that plastic Barbie Doll-looking generic hotness to be not particularly engaging or compelling.

Not exclusively, just good examples of non-generic hotness.

I don't like that many tats :-p

Heavy tattooing is like playing Where's Waldo for grownups, with a much greater sense of satisfaction when you win. 'Sides, it's not the tatoos themselves which are the turn on for me, it's just that the women who turn me on tend to have at least a few.

And I like my women to look like they've seen the sun more than 1 time in their life.

Not me. Women with a greater risk of skin cancer don't particularly crank my wank. I actually find tans, especially really heavy ones on very blonde women, to be pretty revolting.

Christina Hendricks is about as close as I get to digging the generic hotness thing, and she's not all that generic. The fact she was on Firefly helps a lot. ;)

Jayne: I'm not a particular fan of blondes, myself. Dunno, I was burned out on them loooooooooooooong ago.

(When every girl on your street was a blonde growing up, and some of them were more like siblings to you than anything else it kind of leaves an imprint I guess?)

I like girls that look like they spend alot of time outside. It's a potential common interest. (As I do enjoy biking which I am due for this weekend. Probably either tonight after one of my friends hops offline tonight, or maybe Sunday morning)

Of course I'm also a sucker for pacific islander girls too.. A pretty big sucker for em.

But I like women who probably are unweight. Also dark hair and some Asianness doesn't hurt, though not necessary. I would post some pictures or names, but my first thoughts go to actresses and pornstars, which kind of feels like it'd defeat the idea of "regular" women who are hot.

My friends and I used to always make fun of anime conventions because of similar reasons. You'll have fat people (both male and female) dressed in clothes designed for abnormally fit and small people. Sometimes, its just... bad, but good for comedy purposes. And sometimes you have people who properly fit and look pretty nice.

Renaissance Faires tend to be a little better on the fitness of their costumers. Unfortunately, people in the idealized Renaissance don't dress as skimpily. But its still nice.

Yeah, it was good for the comedy - cuz we're all terrible, terrible people.    That's what makes it fun, though.  You're either interested in staring ... er, I mean looking at the hawt pirate gal or laughing about the giant pixie man with the tiny wings.  You're never horrified, never disgusted.  It's all good all the time.  And that's fun.

Yep, that's pretty much where I'm at, too.

As far as Ren Faires go in the US of A, they're pretty much fantasy fairs, too.  Like, some people will be dressed period appropriate.  Others will be pixies, saw some pirates with guns, some twifails, some just plain sluts (heh), some very lightly fur clad barbarians, some ninjas, a samurai, a steampunk dood (his goggles were awesome - and he sold 'em at the leather shop thing he ran.  too bad they were like $125), a centaur and a dragon.  Yep, some li'l chicky wore green and white clothes, painted her face, wore some wings and had a li'l fuzzy dragon nose.  So 'Ren Faire' is a pretty loose description.  As a matter of fact, I believe the event is actually called the Great Lakes Medieval Festival - which is still totally inaccurate.

Nope.  That kind of humor is not my kind.

I won't use my clipper in my crack, I have to put it on my face after. Shaving is out of the question. No razor near my butt hole.

Just get cheaper ones for it. I have a good razor which I use for my face and I buy a bunch of cheap disposal ones for shaving other parts of my body. Its not that bad, especially if you are bothered heavily by the added hair.

Am I the only one who finds the recent upswing in references to body functions to be both disgusting and immature?

Eh, I don't find bodily functions to be digusting.

Yup.  Aside from beings in Klirshon's situation, bodily function simply should not disgust.  Finding poo disgusting is like finding skin gross.  We all make it, we all do it, get over it.  'Sides, the trimmin' advice was sincere.

I know the advice was, I just dont like the poo jokes and such.  I usually shave ass, back, chest legs at least once a week, or try to.  Wish nair did not make me break out horribly.

I tried Nair back in June.  It didn't work so well.  I had to go through two applications to get my leg hair to melt, had a few spots resist it, and it felt like I had mild chemical burns afterwards.  And my legs still didn't feel smooth.  Admittedly, I was more concerned that they looked smooth, but still.  Shaving definitely worked better then Nair for me, though it took some experimenting to find a comfortable way to shave the backs of my knees.

I don't fully shave anything 'cept for my face - er, the parts of my face that I don't want to have hair, that is.  I've heard too many horror stories of the itching, etc that can come with completely takin' it off.  So I don't do that.  I do trim stuff down real short, though.  Not my arms and legs, but pretty much everything else.  Just feels better.  Cleaner.  Yep.

Have you tried an epilator? Same as waxing, only without the mess.

Didn't try it, but I don't think I would have, as I was only removing hair as a lead-up to my cosplay1.  That is to say, I wanted it to grow back just as thick and manly as it was before, and I've heard that waxing and things like that do, over time, reduce the density of your hair2.

Does anyone have the ability to readily confirm that rumor about the effects of waxing over a long term?

That might just fix the legs being hairy and the rest of me being well. All but incapable of growing body hair.

Some people say the hair grows back thinner and more sparse, others say it's a myth. There's no telling, but in my experience, there's little difference, except that it takes a long time for the hair to grow back in full, so a monthly/bimonthly waxing is likely to keep the hair less pronounced. The downside is ingrown hair (which lends some credibility to the idea that it should weaken the roots), which hasn't been a huge problem for me. But then again, I don't remove hair very often, so can't tell for sure.

Im scared to wax simply due to how sensative my skin is.  Even shaving I sometimes get red spots and such.  Nair and other things really make me break out so Im afraid waxing will do the same thing.

It's completely different. I had problems with the skin of my armpits when I started shaving, but waxing had absolutely no effect... well, one time, I made the mistake of waxing myself and then take a bath, at a time where my skin was already irritated, but that was a special case. I have pretty sensitive skin, which is part of the reason I don't want to drag a razor over it everyday and use a bunch of chemicals on it (another reason is carelessness, I know I'll just end up doing a sloppy work eventually).

The things about waxing is that it might be a little harder on your skin at the moment, but it doesn't take long, and then you don't have to bother with it for weeks. Just make sure your skin is dry and clean, and use an antiseptic lotion or something on it afterwards. And be sure you're not using a product that'll irritate your skin or provoke any allergic reactions (I got some tee tree oil moisturising stuff from the clinic I used to visit, and it worked fine).

Using wax or an epilator is basically the same as ripping the hairs out manually, the main side-effect is pain. I suggest going to a professional and try waxing on some less sensitive area (e.g. lower legs) first (and ask them some questions about their products while you're there), and see if there's any side-effects.

Well a councilor did diagnose me with Gender Identity disorder so yeah.  And with my legs I pull of heels rather well, and it helps take the focus off of my face which is kinda guyish, so yeah.  Id love a pair of spiked high heeled boots, but haven't found a pair in my size that is affordable..Cry

Well GID is an actual disorder, and can cause others like depression and anti social behavior.  I did a lot of research on it.  Basically it means you are not comfortable in your current sex and would prefer to be the other, but there are different levels of it.  It's a lot more comon than some people would think too.  But yeah he did make sure to tell me that just because I had it did not mean I was sick or wrong.  He was actually a pretty good shrink and helped me a lot.

I prefer the term neurotypical instead. It's just as correct, and it doesn't have the same connotations to being sane and well-functioning.

And that's a valid issue. However, there's a difference between not liking your sex, and preferring another gender role. As long as you just want to wear a dress and have sex with men, I don't see the problem.

Maybe he wants sex with women.

GID is not necessarily linked to sex.  Its more about how you feel about who you are rather than who you want to have sex with.  As to if crossdressers have it that is up in the air right now.  Not all probably have it but some at least do.  From the research I did I found that 1/11,000 people have the disorder to some extent some are happy just occasionally crossdressing others get hormone therapy, or even the full sex change operation.  Me once Im done with school and have my own place I am probably going to go on hormones, well first Ill have to see a specialist and there is a lot you have to do to get the prescription for them.  Some newer studies show that the numbers for GID could be as much as 1/5000 for men or 1/7,000 for women but it is harder to diagnose the disorder in women.

Also the 8 sites I went to, and various books I read none of them could really agree on the cause of the disorder.

I'll take your word for it. I don't exactly know what the differences are.

Psychiatry is the medial branch of psychology (or the psychological branch of medicine, depending on who you ask). They overlap, but a psychiatrist will typically be more inclined towards medical treatment, whereas a psychologist will lean more towards counselling. Psychology is also more about the human mind in general, whereas psychiatry deals mostly with mental disorders..

So my guess is that if it's about mental illnesses, it's at least as much psychiatry as psychology, even more so if we're dealing with medicine.

Aren't you attached to your penis? I know you would probably like having a vagina better, but still. It is succh a important part of sex (the act not gender).

I prefer other peoples.  During sex I prefer to be the one reciving to penetrating, which is one of the hallmarks of GID, but not the only one.
