Shooting down here, is going to be murderous for the guys wearing the suits, unless they have some kind of air conditioning in those things.

... if that's actually Iron Patriot, then could this be some sort of lead-in them doing the next Avenger movie based on Dark Reign or something?

Could it be a red herring?

Could it be the writers saying "**** it all, we're doing our own thing and pulling compelling imagery from the comics regardless of whether we'll stick to the canon?"

Eh.

First link, second image info

  1. "Marvel's The Avengers" is still tearing it up at the box office, raking in over $527 million to date, but that doesn't mean Tony Stark gets a break from saving the world. "Iron Man 3" is currently filming in Wilmington, North Carolina. Photographers caught the first look at one of the new villains in the movie, the Iron Patriot, who is sporting armor that could give Stark a run for his money. First introduced in the comic "Dark Avengers #1," the Iron Patriot might have a suit of high-tech armor with a Captain America paint job, but the man inside is not a hero. Click ahead to see who is under the mask.less

Intriguing. According to the wiki, the Mandarin is supposed to be the vilain. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Man_3 Ben Kingsley would play him. The Madarin is to Iron Man what Luthor is to Superman. A few symbols of the Mandarin have been seen in the first movies. The terrorist group that capture Stark at the beginning of Iron Ma 1, for example, had ring or tattoo.

Maybe Iron Patriot is just the Dragon, but I am tired of seeing Iron Man facing other guys in suits. Iron Man 2 was lame because of it.

Can't find the link now, but there are reportedly several villains in the movie. Ben Kindsley is one of them. I think Guy Pierce is another.

Interesting. I wonder if they would bring in Fin Fang Foom.

That would make it a much more interesting movie.

I kinda hoped for MODOK and AIM, but let's face it, Iron Man's foes are kinda lame. Especially when he's paired up with guys fighting norse gods or superpowered nazis.

Very true.  Heck, the IM fight I remember best was the short-lived War Machine comic.  And it was between IM and WM.  I <3 War Machine...
Maybe they could use one of War Machine's villains, like Deathlok.  He was pretty Bad Ass.  Or even an Avengers villain like Ultron (or was it Ultimo?  )

Its been awhile since ive read any Iron Man comics, last thing I remember was Tony Stark went crazy and tried to take over the world, so the Avengers go back in time and get young Tony Stark and bring him into the futire (modern day) to fight old evil Tony Stark, that would make a hell of a movie, eh?

and heres hoping that Punisher turns black and has to fight the Devil in the next Punisher movie, And, damnit why havnt we got any spider-clone movies? Ben Rileys just not cool anymore? And dont even get me started on Ant-Man, and how come Superman never splits in two different energy beings in the movies? Oh wait, yeah that was Superman 3, Lets face it, theres some things from the comics that should never make it into the movie, and probably best forgotten.

Yup but the franchise is about to be rebooted (thank gawd) and they call it 'Marvel death' for a reason anyway.  ;)

Hey, Squirrel Girl is awesome and I think she's pretty current too. She should have been the final boss of MvC3.

She would probably ruin any movie tough.

They should just bring back Iron Man's longtime foe, the Batman.
