There is no truth. There is only perception.

I think that sums it up nicely.

I disagree.

There is a truth. Yet we only have our perceptions of it.

If we are to base out choices on the information that we have available to us, then our choices will be far more efficient if the information we have is truth rather than lies.

I've always been of the mindset that if you can't say something that is (to the best of your knowledge) honest, then you have no right to speak in my pressence.

QFT. The postmodernist mallaise that plagued the 90s has died a slow and agonizing death. Glad to see it in its final throws. As you say, there is truth, but there are a multiplicity of view points. Just because our faculties are limited, and at times can be questioned, that doesn't mean there is an absence of objective truth in the universe.

If there were then the absence of objective truth, would in fact be an objective truth.

Thus logically there is an objective truth.

I'd say Truth is more valuable to mankind than Lies. Lies chain us, and the Truth will set us free. So yes.

But which is more effective, revealing the Truth or destroying the Lies?

If you are caught saying a lie then it will be like you never have said the truth.

You can fool some of the people some of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time.

This is the paradox of the postmodernist movement. Honestly though, most of the time they were just playing semantic games. Sophists really. Nothing more.

Here in Spain we have a saying : "a lier is caught before a lame man", or "the lie has very short legs". It means before or later the lie is discovered.

Other question is about the quest of truth. Well, sometimes the reason isen´t enought to discovering the truth, reality isn´t like CSI TV show or Sherloch Holmes´ books. The Reason can not confirm nor refute any question. Then you have to choose if you believe a scource (of information), and the Faith (confidence) appear. If you choose believing you take a risk, but you choose not believing then you too take a risk. We can make a mistake, but sometimes not believing is too a mistake.

I look the connection between cause and effect. Finally the truth and the lie have very differents consequences. My favourit verses;

Saint Matthew 7

15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit.

Unfortunately true.

This is sort of asking if gravity has more effect than nuclear force.
But the truth is more important because it has effects beyond the perceived.
Lies have affect, but never effect.

And finally a little theory of mine:
The truth is a vector, not a scalar.

What one man sees as truth another finds a wretched lie.

They aren't mutually exclusive. Truth needs lies for it to have impact and lies need truth to lie. :D

I'm having trouble understanding what your meaning is here.

(And yes I know what a vector and a scalar are, probably too much...>.<)

The itself concept of lie involves the existence of life.

From Libro de los ejemplos del conde Lucanor y de Patronio ("Book of the examples of Count Lucanor and of Patronio"), there is a fabule or tale about the tree of true and lie.

Once Truth and Lie agreed one to plant a tree to have (and share) fruits and shade (in summer). They agreed Truth had the roots, and Lie the branchs. The tree grew and become lovely... people aproached to the tree, and Lie took the oportunity to teach its "wisdow".

But Truth started to be hungry, but he only could eat the roots of tree. You can imagine what happened when the all the roots were eaten by Truth. With a wind strike the tree fell over Lie and its "disciples" and they were seriouly hurt.

The lie is like a beatiful tree with weak roots. It´s only a question of time when this tree will fall in the end.

I think in most cases, the truth is the more important, but, very rarely, I believe the immortal words of Bat-Man can be applied.

"Because sometimes the truth isn't good enough. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded,"
