Around a black hole space-time is distorted. Light still travels in a straight line within this warped space-time even if to us it looks like it is circling or spiraling into the black hole.

I jus dont understand why sub atomic particles cant have mass on their own, does there need to be a 'god particle' to explain mass? I dunno, alot of this stuff just sounds made up, like dark matter, i mean seriously? that was just something someone made up just so the math would work out right, not enough mass in the galaxy to actually hold it all together? must be dark matter!

I still play 4e!! I love it! Everybody SHOULD all have special powers, not just Wizads and Priests!! At-Will, Encounter, Daily, works so much better than, oh i can use this power 3 times a day, or whatever, and, and, I absolutely love the monster stat blocks, everything you need is right there, and they all get special powers too!! What it boils down to is having special powers is AWESOME!!! therefore, 4e is AWESOME!!!!

As I understand it the reason why they can't have mass of their own is that in order for the theory of the standard model to work there has to be a higgs boson which is responsible for mass. Well more specifically a higgs field that when an elementary particle interacts with it some sort of symmetry is broke and the particle gains mass. the Higgs boson is supposed to be a byproduct of it. And the higgs boson isn't a "god" particle. It's a "goddamn" particle or at least that is what was intended. A man named Leon Lederman wrote a book he intended to be called "goddamn particle" but publishers or whatnot didn't like it (swearing or something on the cover) so they changed the name to "god particle". Something that Higgs hated cuz he felt that it might be found offensive to religious people or miss interpreted.
Dark matter is a different thing. We detect tons more mass than we can detect. Visible matter we can detect with light but when gravitational lensing says that there is way more mass than the visible matter can have. Dark matter just means there is something we can't detect but know is there. There are a lot of ideas of what it could be and one of the ones i like is an idea of there being, in a sense, a "shadow" particle to everything on the standard model. Particles tend to come in pairs to keep some sort of symmetry and with this idea these particles that are speculated to make up dark matter are high mass which means they interact through the weak force and not through electric force. Of course it's just conjecture at this point but it is one of the ones i've heard that sounds the most plausible. It still stands though that until anything is found out for sure dark matter just means "something".

The first semester of quantum was quite strange how it progressed. You start out with some understandable concepts and assumptions. After doing some math under different conditions more things are added in to make the model more complete. Before you know it the shrodenger equation is in spherical coordinates, you've made a triple substitution and you no longer have any clue why you started doing what you're doing. It all starts to make sense after much study but before that it all seems like smoke and mirrors. Even some of the higgs boson junk seems like that to me still since i dont realy know much about it as of yet.

But I think its intersting that you use Akron as a point of reference, I mean Akron, really? What the hell does Akron have? Most people outside of Ohio have probably never even heard of it, Bout the only thing they got goin on is the Football Hall of Fame, or wait, is that Canton? Im always getting those mixed up. But most people have heard of Dayton, birthplace of aviation and all that, Also its the birthplace of Bruce Banner aka The Incredible Hulk (unless thats been retconned since the last time I checked) So yeah, Dayons got it goin on!! We aint the Gem City for nuthin!!!

If youve been to Day'on many times then you should know what im talking about, and im hoping many of you know that i dont see myself as Gangsta, like at all, if you take a look at my song selections in the WAYLT thread i think its pretty obvious, but many people here (in Dayton) seem to think they be Gangsta material, they all also have problems pronouncing 'T', which is why I said Day'on, the Ki'ens lost their mi'ens, I guess its not really funny unless you live here, even then its not really funny. The HoF is in Canton. Akron has a minor league ball team (and a really great li'l stadium, too) and the University of Akron - now home to Jim Tressel, a spankin' new football stadium and the men's soccer national champs like a year ago. It has a couple of ok restaurants and bars and an ok park and ... that's it. Nothin' else really to speak of. Which is kinda typical of most cities in Ohio, really.
Anyhoo, if anyone wonders why we folks north of Akron consider anything south of Akron to be, well, a place with less teeth per capita, it simply means you haven't been north of Akron. If you had been, you'd understand. ;)

At U of Illinois I had to take a test to check out the keys to the observatory. It was going to be on Thursday. I asked if I could do it on a different day b/c I had a quiz to study for. He said no. Then asked what class. I told him P-chem. He asked when would be the best time for me.
