I used to laugh at the people I knew that played it during the rare times  i'd see them away from the computer.

My fav is South park bashing it with Randy holding the USB flash drive "Sword of Epic Truth" or something. I bet there's plenty of people like that out there.

Meh. I'd rather play a system where it takes creativity to spice up the game than one where it takes creativity to balance it. But YMMV.

It doesn't take creativity to not blow the game out of the water; all it takes is not going the "I R God!!!" route. Even with 9th-level spells, all you have to do is not be a douche.

Unlike 4E, you don't need to warp the game to make it interesting. But you can modify 3.5 to make it better. Unlike 4E, it's pretty easy to modify 3.5, as you don't need to worry about making it bland balanced.

D10 Hit Die doesn't really mean much. The important thing is the actual mechanics of the class. Both 3E and 3.5 rangers are pretty bad there, as they were designed as a half-assed mix of fighter and spellcaster. From what I can tell, the 3E ranger was somehow even weaker to "balance" the combination of spell and steel.

The Mystic Ranger is a Dragon Magazine variant. It trades a few relatively minor class features for a decent spellcasting progression. The ranger spell list isn't that bad, rangers are just so bad at casting that it seems poor. It's actually a pretty cool way to do an archer build, as it trades martial melee weapon proficiencies as well as its rather weak animal companion. Rules are here, seeing as old issues of Dragon are harder to come by.

I dunno, I just think the Ranger should be more of a "Fighter" type, Which I thought they did ok with in 3e, 3.5 though ,I dont know it seemed more Rogueish i guess, which does kinda work, but I think they should of just called it something else like a scout or something.
Yeah, thats my main beef with 3.5, aside from the fact that they just reprinted all the same crap and expected you to buy it again.

Well right, I didnt buy it, at first. But all the people I played with were like "Oh, you cant use that, THIS is a 3.5 game" Even though most of it was exactly the same! Word for word even!
So i guess really when it comes down to it, its not so much the game itself that I dont like, its the people who play it! haha!!

I'll always remember the early days of 2e and 3e (3.5, too).  We'd be runnin' through a combat and one of my friends would do some cool power or feat or class ability and the rest of us would be like 'whoa, that was neat'.  We'd have to strategize more in combat, too, cuz we couldn't possibly be familiar enough with the way each others' builds worked to know what they were capable of at any specific moment.  So we asked questions and planned more.  In 4e, when someone did some cool power, half the table would be like 'cool, I have the same thing but it does a slide instead of a shift'.  Lame.  And we always knew exactly what everyone else was capable of at all times.  Seemed like easy-mode in that regard.  So now we don't play D&D.

Not to mention the fact that your powers outright define how your character can be badass, rather than making you be creative and inventive and basing it more on RP. 4E is a stifling system by nature, in comparison to various other systems, and therefore I'm not fond of it.

Please, there was nothing inventive about 3E.

4E is just 3E taken to it's logical conclusion. A Rules Define Everything system.

For every one thing right 3E did, it did 2 things wrong. For every one thing 4E did right, it also did two things wrong.

2E was better than both, but let's face it it's heinously outdated.

D&D, is and always will be far behind everything else. It's the Bud light of rpgs.

Yupyup.  Role expectation was never heavier and that limited play.  Sure you could build characters that functioned outside of their classes' expected role (my Archlich StaffizieLord, for example, was a Striker - not a Controller, not a Leader) but they still needed to perform one of the roles.  That limits you to small variations of four distinct playstyles.  And that was really lame.  At first 4e was fun - honest.  But its replay value is zero.  It's all the same once you understand it and you understand it really, really quickly.

Uh, no. There were no stats for commoners, durability of stone walls or number of enthralled undead based on caster's Hit Dice and similar nonsense 3.x had in spades.
What it did give rules to however was actions in combat and that was the thing that stifled people's creativity. It's like looking at a paint rack in GW and buying several shades of everything, because it's easy to forget you can mix paint.

The one 4E campaign I played in, it felt like everyone had (essentially) the same abilities. I don't think that's all that entertaining. Maybe if you had a better group, you'd see the light & realize that 3.5 is a far superior product.

First of all, no you didn't.  You wanna run low magic?  No problem - the DM runs a low magic campaign.  Second, how does this disprove anything I said?  It doesn't say anything about the classes playing completely differently - from within themselves to when compared to the other classes.

And dood, you didn't play 3.5.  I played 3.5 from start to end and 4e from start until a few months before (I think - may have been after) the 5e announcement.  Just stop, bro.  You honest to god have no idea what you're talking about.  That should be pretty obvious even to you.

I still stand by my statement that it really doesnt matter what rules system you use, what it really boils down to is the quality of players you got. The dudes I play with a really good at thinking outside the box and they came up with some interesting ways to use those 4e powers. Like one guy had a cold based at-will, the characters where stuck on the wrong side of this river, it was too swift to swim across and there was no bridge in sight, so this dude with the cold power got the idea to freeze the water and make an ice bridge so they could get across, it didnt work, but still, pretty kool idea i thought.

Of course not. I'd rather not find out how mind-affecting subtances interact with my mental processes. The most likely outcome is that my self-control slips and I'm too impaired to dispose of the resulting corpses/witnesses properly. And that would be quite a setback.

No it doesnt taste like oatmeal, it tastes like beer, real beer, not that watered down stuff that most Americans drink. Its very hearty, that might be thanks to the oatmeal, but no, it doesnt really taste like oatmeal. And damn, I really want one now, but the only place I know where to get one around here is already closed. There used to be a place up the street, Bob's Beer and Wine, unfortunatly the recession hit them pretty hard and they closed up shop. They actually had a pretty good selection of premium beer for a little hole in the wall spot in east Day'on.

While I do prefer the darker beers, I have to disagree with that sentiment. There are many good beers that are not dark beers.

Yeah thats true, had some Merry Monks a few weeends ago and that stuff was pretty good, and surprisingly strong for a pilsner, but still, theres just something so manly about a dark hearty beer, and I enjoy seeing the looks on friends faces when Im drinking a nice dark stout, theyre like what are you drinking pop? haha, noobs!

I personally think so, Samuel Smith's Celebrated Oatmeal Stout is my beer of choice, they do alot of seasonal brews too that are pretty good, but the Oatmeal Stout is my favorite.

Quite.  I can think of many without really trying.  Wheat ales, white ales and IPAs are all 'light' in appearance and there's a lot of really good ones out there.

If you're an uncultured savage, yes, I'm sure they do.  However, when you're an uncultured savage most things taste like horse urine since you've been conditioned to only like terrible things.  'Soul food', for example, isn't actually good food.  It's the scraps what came off of good food.  People like it, though, cuz it's all they had.  Same goes for everything else.  If all you've ever allowed yourself to be exposed to is crap then crap becomes your normal and anything better than crap tastes different - a sensation you categorize as bad because, well, you just don't know any better.  That's ok, though.  HS and I run a class and we'll be happy to recondition you if you can afford the therapy.

Well there's your problem: You suffer from the delusion that that is beer.

Given that it has "Light" in the name, I'd guess it isn't actually beer but rather a mixture of cleaning fluid and santorum.

Also not beer - you really need this class, man.  Unfortunately from what I can see from what you've been posting you're likely in a demographic that cannot afford the rate.  Once Obamacare is fully online you'll be ok, though.  We're working on gov't assistance for those who cannot afford the full rate.  I mean, they're typically the most in need of our expertise.

Captain Morgan?  A Buffet reference?  You ... there's no hope for you, I'm afraid.

Wouldn't an uncultured savage speak honestly and truthfully though, rather than defending an "acquired taste" for something terrible?
Then there's the question if the guy knows what actual horse urine tastes like to make that comparison

Horse urine tastes like Buf Light. That is actually what it is. They just bottle horse urine. There is no need to taste horse urine to determine the terrible stuff tastes like it when there is film of horse urine being bottled and labeled.
