From deep within the frozen password protected vaults of Micha's documents lays a slumbering death. A thing so vile that it has unmade lesser men's and women's minds and left them giggling husks of their former selves.

The brave forumite known as Cpt_Micha did much battle with this evil, and sent it down with a myriad of stab wounds, slashes, and burns.

However the brave one's work was not yet complete. The Evil began to heal. And once again it's tendrils began to stretch across the once safe internet.

It is time now for the Final Showdown. Cpt_Micha vs F.A.T.A.L. All of it's insipid twisted concepts will be fully realized and laid bare for all to see, all the while the brave Cpt will lampoon it and explain why it is so tragically horrifying. And hopefully keep what remains of his sanity.

That's right guys. It's Round Two.

Me vs F.A.T.A.L

I will finish my review of that 1000 page monstrosity. And .... god help me afterwards I'm going to look for a game of it online, and attempt to play it. (Hopefully I'll still be sane enough to save the transcripts) After my one and only session I will post the "session", and there too I will rip it apart and dissect it.

Alot has changed in a year's time. I have my own rig now. 4e has solidly taken it's place at the game tables across the land. Many posters have come and gone on these forums. However, that thing and the work I must do are not yet done.

The theme songs have been laid down.

I have not done another Official Review in nearly a year so confident did my bout with F.A.T.A.L leave me that nothing could be so bad. I'm rusty and haven't done it in a long time. However I heard the foul thing being whispered of across our lovely land known as the Internet. And the cry that I had not finished my work.

I think ya'll can guess what role F.A.T.A.L is going to play based on my song choice.

This is where battle shall be taking place. A war of the soul versus darkness.

Don't worry Micha, we'll say a prayer for you! Be brave, stay strong, and dear God, don't look at the pictures!

From what I know of F.A.T.A.L. this will be a train wreck... in the ass.

That assessment would be accurate, yes.

So everyone knows that is also the location to find Round 1 if you've not read it yet.

I just did my first post with it. I didn't even make it past the cover this time without dissecting it.

I've read most of it, and it's horrifyingly complex for little reward. Never mind the annoying writing style. I can't imagine what sort of insanity it would take to research things that thoroughlly, presuming he(they?) did the homework in the first place.

I say he here, since it's painfully obvious from the attitude displayed that the author couldn't have been a woman, at least not one with a single shred of self-respect.

I managed to finish reading it some time ago. But I have since System Cleaned that part of my mind. So in a way this is starting fresh all over again.

Dammit! Now there's part of me that actually wants to read that abomination just to see how terrifying it truly is... *shudders*

I think I need help now...

Will I be listed in your will?

I withstood it once. I can endure it again.

Mind you I had been doing reviews alot more frequently back then.

I hope you can find a game - or at least some people that can understand the 'rules' enough to start one.  I'm far more interested in seeing what a game could be like than just the 'rules' themselves (though they are interesting).  I do believe that to properly understand a game, one needs to play it.  4e, for example, read like crap.  It was boring and disorganized and left me thinking all the complexity was gone.  Playing 4e, otoh, changed my mind.  So I'm wondering if there's something similar going on with FATAL.  Not that FATAL would play better than it reads, but worse.  And that's what this inquiring mind wants to know.

Oh, does anyone know if this game was ever actually played?  By anyone?

It had playtesters, or at least people were ''credited'' to being playtesters.

When I do this online game I'm smurfing it. (Ie making a new bogus handle, probably something insipid like smurfhumper lol)

Supposedly this ''game'' had a forum and had members on it. So what should scare us even more is that people liked this thing.

Interesting.  So there may be some hope that you can find a game, then.  Cool.  Good luck - with your review, with finding a group to play it with and with surviving both.  ;)

From what I know of this notorious piece of rubbish it seems clear to me that it was not written by a single individual at all, nor with serious intent. Given both its size and deplorably base content I believe it was written by a number of individuals as a joke, designed to be as bad and offensive as possible in order to see what people's reactions would be and if it would be taken seriously. Essentially, it is a gigantic troll post of the entire RPG community.

No. Have you a link?

EDIT: Found it here. Got bored reading part way through. Neither amusing nor intelligent.

There is a world of difference between "naively silly" and "racist, mysongynist, incompetant garbage".

I maintain that it was either written by a collective as a joke on the RPG community or by someone with deep emotional and maturity issues…or both.

Of the latter there is no doubt.

I can dig up a link to the original review that he was rebutting if you like.

Sadly, emotional response wise their review is probably more accurate than mine. However it is also less analytical.

They also I think captured the mental state of the author of F.a.t.a.l perfectly

I probaly should be glad of that, though...

Unfortunately, Synnibar's creator was deadly serious when he made that... I played with him at a convention years and years ago. He honestly thought it was the best system out there, and by all reports, still does. Somewhere in the deepest part of the abyss that is my storage space here is an autographed copy.

I still shudder to think about that four hours.

I'm not a praying man, but may the random uncaring universe not entirely crush your spirit in the course of this endeavour, Micha.

I have a powerful streak of morbid curiosity, enough to get me through about half of the very first race description in F.A.T.A.L. To the table entry where one of their random table entries said that they might ejaculate/lubricate w. blood...

So I'll be sure to be back for round 2!

Alright folks, just did a new post.

community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

If you notice how little ground I seem to be covering per post (and given how long the posts are) it's cause this pdf just drags on forever and a day just to cover any ground.

posted another snippet of f.a.t.a.l last night.

I need a couple days of a break before I delve into the true beginnings of F.A.T.A.L's insanity.
